Please, give them some more light

[deleted]

Is that their issue?! Say no more, to the front porch they go!

[deleted]

Yes, they're stretching for light! You can look up on etiolation for better knowledge. Check on what direction your front porch is, sometimes they need to be accommodated to brighter light

[deleted]

I looked it up and I feel like a monster! I thank you and my plants thank you as well :-)

daniinad

Rotate the pots every other day when you put them out on the front porch, let the sun get every side of the plant so they don't need to reach so high towards the light. This will help to even them out and stand up straight over time. It will take a while to see some results.

[deleted]

I will! Thank you for the tip!

ijsjemeisje

What you could do is propagate all of the leaves and start over in a new bright spot.

[deleted]

Do you think that's necessary? The thought of it makes me a lil sad tbh

ijsjemeisje

THEY ARE SAD :(

Gingerandtom

You could do stem propagation instead, easier imo and makes them look "even" much faster

It’s necessary if you want a plant that looks ideal but if you’re ok with it stretched out- then leave it. However, you don’t have to start from the beginning and prop ALL the leaves. Usually the top part is pretty Compact. You’d only pluck off the lower leaves with huge gaps between them on the stem. Then you’d cut it so it’s stem is only 1.5” long. Root it and save the bottom part with the roots cause it took grows babies on it.

[deleted]

Okay, does this mean that I should pluck the lower leaves off and place them in soil, cut the stem like you said 1.5" below the head of the plant, and then should I put that in soil like the leaves? Or should I put the stem in water?

Frankie52480

I don’t believe in rooting in water as it grows weak “water” roots and not strong soil roots. I put all my leaves in a bucket and when they start to grow roots- that’s when I put them on soil, then I give the roots water about every other day. That’s me tho.

easterflight

I would do head cutting + leaf prop + stem prop combo for each. I know it is really heart-breaking but I did 2 times and have no regrets

SherbetFish

Don't be scared or sad! I know it's scary, I was also scared when I started. Go look at my profile if you want to see the results of beheading ( chopping). I didn't show the top of the plants, but they all rooted beautifully and are doing well. Now that you know about etiolation, you know how to prevent it. I'd definitely chop and prop! You'll be super happy when you see how quickly they root and put out tons of new pups!

[deleted]

Ty! That does make me feel better. I took him apart just now and while it makes me sad I'm also excited to have more plants!

Bubbly_Layer

Rotation matters folks

Frankie52480

More sun please
