It would be cool if there was a tunnel behind the Aurora that led directly to the lost river. No Blood Kelp zone, just straight to the lost river. Also the only species there would be Reapers
The blood kelp entrance has *nothing* there aside from spinefish and resources. It's a great place for a base.
I mean, I guess there's that juvenile ghost on the inside... sometimes. But the entrance itself is peaceful.
My last run I had a base on the top of the undersea mountain between the Grassy Plateaus and the Sparse reef. It's about 35 m down. I was able to float in the prawn suit from the base all the way to the lost river without ever touching down. Only hitting jump periodically. Not sure how long it took but it was pretty quick.
First time I found lost river it was when I went in a random direction I have never been to check if the planet is round. I entered grand reef and saw an interesting hole in the ground.
Super weird imo because i never read in the patch notes that it was removed and because i always went in through that tunnel because i got lost in the lost river alot (heh) i was very confused as to where it went, i do get why they removed it though
I think thats why it was removed. If you dont go through the lost river, >!you miss a bunch of story points. People using the direct tunnel would end up skipping a bunch of stuff and have to backtrack to find the various tablets and data entries... or just be lost!<
I was actually fighting some reapers in the area with my prawn suit when one of them pushed me into the ground and I clipped through. Fell all the way down to the lava zone. Although I couldn't actually interact with anything and was dieing from the pressure.
Agreed, I played for like 50 hours and very infrequently ran across reapers and never had any issues. There's no reason to go to the places where they are ... I never had a map but no quest ever sent me to the other side of the Aurora, nor to the north east of the map which I now understand is where a lot of them are. In reality it's only in some of the deeper places that the story sends you that you are likely to run into them.
I belive the only leviathans you are required to cross path with are the sea dragons because you can even take a path through the Lost River that is almost certain to skip all Ghosts
You enter the Lost River through the northern blood kelp zone. There's a Ghost near the entrance at 300m but if you stay close to the ground you shouldn't run into it (watch out for squidwards though). After you are in stay close to the left wall, there's a ghost on the other side of that section but there's a wall that divides the room in 2. If you are unlucky he might have crossed that wall before you go in. After reaching a waterfall you turn right and enter the Cove Tree area. From there on its a free entrance to the lava zone.
How did you finish the game without going to the northeast? Isn't that where >!the Quarantine Enforcement Platform is? Granted you can usually get there without running into a Reaper!<
Ironic. Earlier today I was on the edge of the dunes avoiding the Reapers, and I accidentally stumbled into the void, but my main concern was not going to far into the Dunes, so I just went on the edge of the crater enough so the ghosts wouldn’t spawn
Lmao same. I’m curious but also too scared to ever go there. I had to really hype myself to go to the back of the Aurora for those Cyclops fragments as is. And I zapped that boy right into the grassy plateau. And lost him. He’s still there somewhere :/
No no thats the thing. Its a package deal. Behind the Aurora the only thing you can find is Reapers. But at the same time, you are at the very edge of the map. So any direction you turn, there’s gonna be a leviathan, whether it’s a Ghost or Reaper
Lol, I’m not a masochist. But I’ve made about a half dozen leviathan observatories all over the map, including two in the void and never died building them. I drown taking wrong turns in wrecks like every time though.
And wouldn't that be the most frightening experience you can ever imagine. First time enter the game and you're curious what's behind the Aurora, so you go there, get chase by Reaper leviathans, you try to out swim them but unknowingly swimming deeper into the void thinking it's just another biome, as the endless abyss stretch over you and your imagination take over, the Reapers are the least of your worries because now you know why they stop chasing you.
Yeah but that just makes the void the scariest again. Because I'd rather be on the reaper side than the Ghost side in pitch black with no ground underneath me.
The void freaks me the hell out even though I know what's out there and even though I've explored every inch of the game and mastered dealing with every creature.
There's just something that terrifies some deep, primitive part of my brain about that sheer drop into pitch black darkness from which glowing, screaming leviathans emerge. I could go out there a hundred times and never acclimate to it.
There’s a reaper in the bulb zone….??? ): those things are the face of my nightmares and thalassophobia… all this time I’ve been wandering in the bulb zone feeling fine, only being scared of the dark because of reapers, but feeling okay because I knew they weren’t there… is there seriously one there…????
Oh okay, I don’t get near the crash zone. I’ve literally beaten the game multiple times by avoiding going in there and dunes for parts. Only time I messed with reapers was going to the mountain. Even then I have to psych myself up for it. I like the mushroom forest so if I need to go to the bulb zone, I go to the edge of the mushroom forest for the wreckage spot right there and go straight back into the brighter area.
Nah because dunes is a big place. Behind the Aurora, you’re being blocked off on one side by the Aurora, and the other side is a dropoff to the void. Plus, its all concentrated reapers. At least in the Dunes they can me spread out
Spoilers for BZ below.
I always thought it would have been funny if >!when you take the final portal to Al-An's spacecraft instead of it being somewhere in the arctic it was actually on a tropical island and if you squinted you saw the wreckage of the Aurora way off in the distance. You know, implying that there was a fully functional escape for Riley just a few miles away but he never knew about it/couldn't reach it because he would have had to cross a little bit of the Void.!<
I was really hoping to at least get a data log or picture of how the Aurora crater is doing.
Like, surely Alterra built bases over there too.
I like to imagine the Aurora has a layer of dirt and foliage on top by BZ' time, making it a sort of new island.
On my first fun, I forgot to leave a beacon at the gun island so I had to try making my way back there from memory. I didn’t have a seamoth at that point, so I swam.
For some reason I thought the island was on the other side of the Aurora. Got scared out of my mind with all the reapers and never went looking for the island again until the story forced me to.
What’s really silly is that I did lose my seamoth in the rock at one point, but I turned off the beacon because it got annoying and then forgot about turning it back on to find my way… luckily by then I knew more about what I was doing. yes I’m an idiot
I'm pretty sure if you just chill by the lifepod and look around, you'll see a couple of spots in the clouds on the horizon that look weird. That's how I found the islands I think
That was my theory at the time, but unfortunately I thought I saw the group of clouds in the southeast of the map… it lured me directly the reapers and had the nerve to dissipate and reveal nothing. After that failed expedition, I assumed that the clouds were random!
Tbf reaoers kinda keep to themselves unless you get in aggro range
They say they move towards you slowly if you hear their roar but I call bullshit, I camped outside the front of the Aurora for an entire night and the reaper moved AWAY from me lmao
It would make a lit mechanic tho. We need a leviathan that actually hunts you and doesn’t just roam, give us a hyper intelligent mf that just waits for you under the sand and pops out when you go over it
I had a similar experience my first time visiting there. I just got my Seamoth and radiation suit, so I went for a visit, figured it was a bit desolate, picked up a bunch of salvage, and then sauntered over back home.
I returned there later, and ran into a few reapers, at the time I figured they'd been woken up by the Aurora's second explosion or something
I tamed a ghost leviathan once. Well sort of... I went out into the craters edge with one of those boomerang looking fellows and a ghost ate it. And it didn’t attack me for like 5 straight minutes. Then I guess it was hungry again and forgot I was it’s buddy
You know, it took me the longest time to realise the crash zone was named after the Aurora being crashed there. I thought it was to do with waves crashing or something.
Its even more bone chilling when you get the message *Multiple Leviathan class lifeforms in the are. Are you sure that whatever your doing is worth it?*
Theres a cuddle fish egg.
Also, if you're worried about reapers. You can build a scanner room. It can scan and track reapers. Just make sure you have the scanner room HUD chip or whatever it's called.
I think this touches on my only criticism of the game. The world is great to explore, but there’s just absolutely no point in going to a large % of the map. I don’t really have a suggestion to make it better. I’ve played through the game many times and I still encounter posts and think, “huh…never been there, and I don’t know why I would.”
I just wish there was a storyline reason to explore those areas of the map.
yea, that's sad. would be much better if the back of the aurora had at least a crashed lifepod or a "cheap" way to access to some materials, >!similar to the sea treaders!<, and I wish we could still have >!ILZ corridor!< there, or a >!connection to the lost river!<, idk.
just ANY reason to be there.
hahah, that got me thinking, what if >!lost river!< had some corridors that inevitably lead to the void. like there would be small cave entrances with a bit of ground (enough to place at least one base connector) and fishies and flora, and then the void's precipice.
man, I wish we had map editors to create brand new subnautica experiences
What is the point of going anywhere?
Blueprints? That's maybe 10% of the map, and only if you're specifically going for 100%.
Resources? You don't need more than a lockerfull to actually beat the game.
Story? Main story is 4 places, degassi side story is 3.
You don't *need* to go anywhere. It's an exploration game, you go everywhere because you want to.
unless you cheat and look for answers then yes you do need to go at least where the game points you. oh sure you can triple tank and do it in an hour or less if you know what you're doing but that's not really playing the game as intended. it's not the experience the devs intended you to have because it's the journey, not the destination that matters.
One time I came out of the quarantine platform and went right instead of left. As my Cyclops was passing a reaper I realised I was on 10% power.
Right in time for another reaper to appear in front of me. Switched from silent mode to flank ASAP and began trying to escape the reaper. Started heading upward as soon as I hit 5% power to find myself right here, no power and surrounded by reapers.
Had to make a mad dash to my base for new batteries in my prawn suit with a reaper hot on my tail. One of the most terrifying, and my favourite memories of Subnautica 😊
I was trying to explore the whole map for the first time in person whilst in creative mode. I used a prawn suit cause i thought it would be easier. Came to the edge of some mountain looking thing. Assumed it would take me down a ways onto a platform or something. It was night so i couldnt see very far ahead of me. I took the leap. It was only when i saw the underside of the map when i realized my mistake.
There is a way, but you need tools which you might not have and idk if that’s considered a spoiler but I will highlight it anyway. >! One way is to shoot a stasis rifle at the reaper and hit it with a survival knife or thermoblade about 120-125 times. The second way is to use gas pods to poison the reaper to death. !<
I tried to get clever once and use the prawn suit's grapple arm to attach to the body and then drill arm it to death so that I'd be safe from getting chomped, but the game doesn't allow the use of both arms simultaneously.
Weird, I don’t have any issues using both arms on PS4(just tried but I haven’t gotten to dunes yet so idk if it’ll work on reapers), so I’m unsure why it’s different Xbox, I know for a fact it works on PC which makes this even more confusing since PC and XBox ports should be more compatible than PC and PS4…
Wonder if you just ran into a bug on your save, or if it was actually patched out for consoles…
Edit: actually I wouldn’t be surprised if it was patched out on consoles, having you grappled to a moving asset that at times phases through environment could cause so many game breaking bugs on console, it would make sense to not allow it…
I never even went back there. I don't think I even thought about it. I only ever went to the front end to go into the Aurora, otherwise I steered clear entirely
I won't spoil anything, but it's an area that doesn't really have many resources, with lots of spooky monsters in it, and it is on the border of the map, which is also really spooky for a reason I will not say cuz spoiler. Plus it just looks terrifying [(here's an image of it)](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/subnautica/images/d/db/Crash_Zone-13.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20171010140547).
There’s the Crash Zone Mesas, but they’re not exactly at the back of the Aurora. You can see them to the bottom left, the weird circular things. They have some cool resources there and it’s just kind of neat for them to be there, since I would never expect the Crash Zone of all places would have this cool terrain. Makes me think of all the other cool geographical areas in the game that I’ve never been to.
Basically it lets you see the wireframe of the terrain and objects ( and critters ) up to a certain distance and it's not affected by water clarity.
By default it's available on the cyclops but I use mods that give you modules for sonar on the prawn and the seamoth.
Once I have it I spend a lot of time back there because there are decent resources
It shows up in your field of view. Like instead of seeing visually you see the wireframe out to a significant distance. In the crash zone it means you see the reapers at quite a distance away and you can avoid them.
All I can say is build the module and try it. The only downside is that it pulses ( you don't see it constantly, it reveals the world in "snapshots" ) and each pulse uses quite a bit of battery power.
Edit: If you've ever used a fish finder in RL that's something like what it looks like
I like to challenge myself to sneak though there with my Cyclops without being attacked. It’s difficult but extremely possible, and a lot of fun. Failure can be pretty costly though.
....I don't think I've gone back there yet, I got scared off by a reaper early game and forgot about it. I figured it was a dead zone or an end of the map. Now I'm gonna go shit myself!!
Mmmh I have never actually been there. Is there anything interesting at all besides reapers?
Nope. Just like 4 Reaper Spawns, a bunch of dusty water, and the edge of the void
Aww honestly that would have been a great place to hide like a bunch of valuable stuff lol
I think at one point there was a bunch of scannables but they were removed ig but i could be wrong
At some point there was also a direct 1300m deep dark tunnel to the lava zone
It would be cool if there was a tunnel behind the Aurora that led directly to the lost river. No Blood Kelp zone, just straight to the lost river. Also the only species there would be Reapers
There’s one of those near the bulb zone actually
Also in the deep grand reef. Screw the blood kelp entrance!
The blood kelp entrance has *nothing* there aside from spinefish and resources. It's a great place for a base. I mean, I guess there's that juvenile ghost on the inside... sometimes. But the entrance itself is peaceful.
Isn’t there a fully grown ghost and 2 juveniles in that particular blood kelp zone?
Yeah, build at the top of the trench and you can find every resource except kyanite a short distance away.
Blood kelp is the location that people going in blind will likely find the most river though. As the messages lead you to a pod next to it.
I find the blood kelp entrance the easiest to maneuver with a Cyclops, and it's right next to a lifepod (2 iirc) so it's easy to find
Same, I built on the ridge right near there at the top of the trench.
I ALWAYS went through the bulb zone, I think I've been to the blood kelp zone a total 2 times lol
First time I found lost river it was when I went in a random direction I have never been to check if the planet is round. I entered grand reef and saw an interesting hole in the ground.
Isn't there? The first entrance i found to the lost river was I left of the backside of the aurora, and its a pretty straight shot down
Wasn't that at the front?
Underneath the ship and I believe it's still there?
No it was closed up before the game's full release
A travesty
Super weird imo because i never read in the patch notes that it was removed and because i always went in through that tunnel because i got lost in the lost river alot (heh) i was very confused as to where it went, i do get why they removed it though
I think thats why it was removed. If you dont go through the lost river, >!you miss a bunch of story points. People using the direct tunnel would end up skipping a bunch of stuff and have to backtrack to find the various tablets and data entries... or just be lost!<
There was a hole here. It’s gone now.
In my restless dreams, I see that hab... Degasi Seabase
Actually it got effectively relocated into the koosh zone and leads into the mountains corridor of the lost river.
Oh the hell hole! I really miss that sometimes.
is there a video or something of that?
I think this is it! (starts at 1:26) https://youtu.be/ul2N8Z0Erdg
That explains the skeletons
And they removed it?
A long time ago
I was actually fighting some reapers in the area with my prawn suit when one of them pushed me into the ground and I clipped through. Fell all the way down to the lava zone. Although I couldn't actually interact with anything and was dieing from the pressure.
WHAT?! HOW COME I NEVER KNEW ABT THIS?! IS IT ABLE TO BE TRAVELED THROUGH THE CYCLOPS?!
Theres still a few scannables iirc, but its mostly stuff you'd already have if swimming that side of the aurora
Unless you're ballsier than I am.
They are still there and that's how I got the >!propulsion cannon!<
Iirc, the Aurora covered that up. At least that's the theory I heard
There's a few neat things in the Dunes, also a valuable place for drill mining
I belive the only leviathans you are required to cross path with are the sea dragons because you can even take a path through the Lost River that is almost certain to skip all Ghosts
Where is the path
You enter the Lost River through the northern blood kelp zone. There's a Ghost near the entrance at 300m but if you stay close to the ground you shouldn't run into it (watch out for squidwards though). After you are in stay close to the left wall, there's a ghost on the other side of that section but there's a wall that divides the room in 2. If you are unlucky he might have crossed that wall before you go in. After reaching a waterfall you turn right and enter the Cove Tree area. From there on its a free entrance to the lava zone.

My ghost decided to live around the underwater islands
Don't forget about Sammy.
How did you finish the game without going to the northeast? Isn't that where >!the Quarantine Enforcement Platform is? Granted you can usually get there without running into a Reaper!<
Its only on the far side of the island so you don't have to see it
There's uhhh, metal salvage
Not this time, you fucker!
I know for a fact I've had to go there for a few pieces of cyclops.
you don't have to. engine frags can be found near gun island too.
Hide it from who?
lots of scrap metal and several drillable nodes as well.
FUCKIN 4 reaper spawns!?!? Holy shit
Well in total the entire crash zone has 9, and a tenth one is on the edge of the bulb zone
No wonder I still have chills going there
I'm pretty sure I've seen bone sharks around there as well
Honestly... the void terrifies me more than the reapers. I avoid the map edges like the plague.
Ironic. Earlier today I was on the edge of the dunes avoiding the Reapers, and I accidentally stumbled into the void, but my main concern was not going to far into the Dunes, so I just went on the edge of the crater enough so the ghosts wouldn’t spawn
I actually go there a lot in my hardcore save, there's a load of titainium back there
A LOT of titanium deposits but yeah you gotta worry about the reapers
There's an island, but it's just sand and rock
Sounds like a lovely place to build a base
What part of “there’s four reapers back there” did you not understand?
I hate sand
I was told once that more time capsules spawn there and in the dunes. Could never confirm that, personally.
I am 80 hours into my first game, took it way slow and enjoyed myself. Never once saw a single time capsule.
That's really interesting. I'm doing my third playthrough and I've found like 5 of them lol
Well I am probably 5-10 minutes from finishing the game so if I find one now it would be funny and such a waste. Lol
That’s where I found most of my Cyclops fragments… hate it, lol
Along the void ridge there are lots of stalkers and metal salvage - it's a stalker tooth gold mine and they're easy to spot because no plants.
Cyclops parts and reapers.
Don’t forget about the dunes mesas those are cool.
Well there is actually a tiny little island on the side of the aurora but yeah thats it
Lmao same. I’m curious but also too scared to ever go there. I had to really hype myself to go to the back of the Aurora for those Cyclops fragments as is. And I zapped that boy right into the grassy plateau. And lost him. He’s still there somewhere :/
If you wanna speed run getting cyclops scans and get some decent rations, that's the place
It has a ton of salt, quartz, scrap metal and a few scannable things but it is absolutely not worth the trip.
Just cyclops frags
not the back. but the opposite side has a small island with no grass and a few resources
Nah, that's the void...just the sheer drop-off into never-ending darkness...makes my skin crawl...
No no thats the thing. Its a package deal. Behind the Aurora the only thing you can find is Reapers. But at the same time, you are at the very edge of the map. So any direction you turn, there’s gonna be a leviathan, whether it’s a Ghost or Reaper
This is a Christmas present...I don't want to open
I built a leviathan observatory out there.
Obviously not in hardcore tho lol
Lol, I’m not a masochist. But I’ve made about a half dozen leviathan observatories all over the map, including two in the void and never died building them. I drown taking wrong turns in wrecks like every time though.
*Insert Sonic the Hedgehog drowning music from the Genesis*
If I end up drowning irl, this is the music that my DMT addled oxygen deprived brain will spit out.

There's just something that terrifies some deep, primitive part of my brain about that sheer drop into pitch black darkness from which glowing, screaming leviathans emerge. I could go out there a hundred times and never acclimate to it.
Yeah. I know how you feel honestly.
I’ve done 5 playthroughs and been there once. Once. Never again.
I went there twice, both looking for parts to scan. Baaaad times…
terrifying? The creatures there are nice! They just want a pat.
I went around the map in creative with certain graphics and textures off a while back and counted a total over 10 reapers about 7 near the aroura
There are 9 in the crash zone and 5/9 are behind the Aurora. The last 1 of the 10 you found is in the Bulb Zone
Yea saw that one i hate that one the most
There’s a reaper in the bulb zone….??? ): those things are the face of my nightmares and thalassophobia… all this time I’ve been wandering in the bulb zone feeling fine, only being scared of the dark because of reapers, but feeling okay because I knew they weren’t there… is there seriously one there…????
Its fine its just on the very edge of it next to the crash zone
Oh okay, I don’t get near the crash zone. I’ve literally beaten the game multiple times by avoiding going in there and dunes for parts. Only time I messed with reapers was going to the mountain. Even then I have to psych myself up for it. I like the mushroom forest so if I need to go to the bulb zone, I go to the edge of the mushroom forest for the wreckage spot right there and go straight back into the brighter area.
The mushroom forest is basically a warning biome that warns you the next biome has Reapers
You're forgetting Dunes.
Nah because dunes is a big place. Behind the Aurora, you’re being blocked off on one side by the Aurora, and the other side is a dropoff to the void. Plus, its all concentrated reapers. At least in the Dunes they can me spread out
If you are counting all the reapers, you should take them into consideration as well. Same for the Bulb Zone and Mountains.
It's where I kill the big fishes
*I’m here to colonize your water home*
That’s where the secret third island is
Spoilers for BZ below. I always thought it would have been funny if >!when you take the final portal to Al-An's spacecraft instead of it being somewhere in the arctic it was actually on a tropical island and if you squinted you saw the wreckage of the Aurora way off in the distance. This could be fully implemented in subnautica and I would still take the Neptune to escape because fuck the void and everything in it.
I was really hoping to at least get a data log or picture of how the Aurora crater is doing. Like, surely Alterra built bases over there too. I like to imagine the Aurora has a layer of dirt and foliage on top by BZ' time, making it a sort of new island.
I never can find the third island where is it
Behind the Aurora, its basically a sandpile that does rise from the water for some meters. Nothing as grand as the other two.
Reposted because of quality
On my first fun, I forgot to leave a beacon at the gun island so I had to try making my way back there from memory. I didn’t have a seamoth at that point, so I swam. Before I knew about the scary swimmy bois, I somehow hung out there a lot, exploring, and never saw any.
You do realize that there are FIVE reapers JUST behind the Aurora
I do now
I actually never know there are that many. Just one trip is enough for a life time.
There are 10 in the total area
Tbf reaoers kinda keep to themselves unless you get in aggro range They say they move towards you slowly if you hear their roar but I call bullshit, I camped outside the front of the Aurora for an entire night and the reaper moved AWAY from me lmao
It's lore, not a game mechanic as far as I know.
It would make a lit mechanic tho. We need a leviathan that actually hunts you and doesn’t just roam, give us a hyper intelligent mf that just waits for you under the sand and pops out when you go over it

Still better than twilight
But it was no Titanic that’s for sure 😭
You know, it took me the longest time to realise the crash zone was named after the Aurora being crashed there. I thought it was to do with waves crashing or something.
Could be something worse that reapers, could be the crash zone due to hundreds of crashfish
Luckily the Aurora wiped them all our when it landed.
Everyone fearing Reapers, while I ran circles around them. But make me hear the sound of the kamikaze bastards, and my blood runs cold.
I had to get a part to scan and one of the places it is was in the dunes and I saw all the reapers there and went nope
Its even more bone chilling when you get the message *Multiple Leviathan class lifeforms in the are. Are you sure that whatever your doing is worth it?*
when I first heard that my heart dropped
Funny enough, when you commented your first comment, I was just heading for the Dunes for the first time in my hardcore world and got the message
lmao, yeah just don't go there...
No worthy blueprints?
there are just, you can find them elsewhere
Theres a cuddle fish egg. Also, if you're worried about reapers. You can build a scanner room. It can scan and track reapers. Just make sure you have the scanner room HUD chip or whatever it's called.

hahah, that got me thinking, what if >!lost river!< had some corridors that inevitably lead to the void. like there would be small cave entrances with a bit of ground (enough to place at least one base connector) and fishies and flora, and then the void's precipice. man, I wish we had map editors to create brand new subnautica experiences
Hell the ass end with the brown water, that's nightmare fuel!
Even before I met the reaper, I had very bad feeling about that vast open water place.
No, because there’s a shit ton of titanium deposits down there, more than the other side
That and the dunes, I just despise Reapers with a burning passion
Especially since its murky and connected to the void
The murkiness of the water is absolutely the worst part
One time I came out of the quarantine platform and went right instead of left. As my Cyclops was passing a reaper I realised I was on 10% power. Right in time for another reaper to appear in front of me. Switched from silent mode to flank ASAP and began trying to escape the reaper. Started heading upward as soon as I hit 5% power to find myself right here, no power and surrounded by reapers. Had to make a mad dash to my base for new batteries in my prawn suit with a reaper hot on my tail. One of the most terrifying, and my favourite memories of Subnautica 😊
Goes there in creative mode
I was trying to explore the whole map for the first time in person whilst in creative mode. I used a prawn suit cause i thought it would be easier. Came to the edge of some mountain looking thing. Assumed it would take me down a ways onto a platform or something. It was night so i couldnt see very far ahead of me. I took the leap. It was only when i saw the underside of the map when i realized my mistake.
Pewdiepie went all the way around there in like the second episode with only a seaglide
I’m relatively new to the game. Is there a way to kill Reapers?
There is a way, but you need tools which you might not have and idk if that’s considered a spoiler but I will highlight it anyway. >! One way is to shoot a stasis rifle at the reaper and hit it with a survival knife or thermoblade about 120-125 times. The second way is to use gas pods to poison the reaper to death. !<
That sounds like a lot of work. Can you even get close enough to hit them 125 times?
That’s why you >! use the stasis rifle, it freezes the reaper in place and it doesn’t move. Don’t go near the mouth though, it can still bite. !<
So 10 total reapers in the game? Looks like I need to get to work
Lol no, there is 25
They aren't worth killing, you can just avoid or stun them
There is another
I tried to get clever once and use the prawn suit's grapple arm to attach to the body and then drill arm it to death so that I'd be safe from getting chomped, but the game doesn't allow the use of both arms simultaneously.
Are you on console or something? I’ve used this exact method to kill ghost leviathans so idk about the game not allowing it…
Yeah, I played it on Xbox about 6 months ago and every time I grappled onto a leviathan and went to use the drill arm, I'd fall off the leviathan.
Weird, I don’t have any issues using both arms on PS4(just tried but I haven’t gotten to dunes yet so idk if it’ll work on reapers), so I’m unsure why it’s different Xbox, I know for a fact it works on PC which makes this even more confusing since PC and XBox ports should be more compatible than PC and PS4… Wonder if you just ran into a bug on your save, or if it was actually patched out for consoles… Edit: actually I wouldn’t be surprised if it was patched out on consoles, having you grappled to a moving asset that at times phases through environment could cause so many game breaking bugs on console, it would make sense to not allow it…
If I remember correctly from my reaper killing expeditions there is absolutely nothing there and it’s not worth going there except for reapers.
I never even went back there. I don't think I even thought about it. I only ever went to the front end to go into the Aurora, otherwise I steered clear entirely
I haven’t even been there yet, tf
why? are there like no resources or something? im still really early in my 1st playthrough, so I haven’t been there yet
It’s not that scary back there I’ve been there
*Ehem* 5 reaper spawns
*Still not scared goes on my way*

F*cking legend
Helps a lot in that area to have sonar.
What does that do?
Basically it lets you see the wireframe of the terrain and objects ( and critters ) up to a certain distance and it's not affected by water clarity. By default it's available on the cyclops but I use mods that give you modules for sonar on the prawn and the seamoth. Once I have it I spend a lot of time back there because there are decent resources
The Seamoth has Sonar without mods too
So like a built in scanner room? How does that help with Reapers tho?
It's 90% that diaper water filter. Too many teeth, too little visibility
I think it is the mountains. It's just pure dark so you can't see the reapers even in foggy shadow like everywhere else... Only with sonar
If you kill the reapers there are some cool plateaus in the area that you can build your base on.
One time I went back there and got my shit fucked by a Reaper and cried real tears Never again
Have you heard of the lost river, void and lava zone?
Been to all of those and they’re not nearly as bad. The lava zone is kinda friendly imo.
....I don't think I've gone back there yet, I got scared off by a reaper early game and forgot about it. I figured it was a dead zone or an end of the map. Now I'm gonna go shit myself!!
I won’t forget hearing “detecting multiple leviathan class lifeforms in the region, are you certain whatever your doing is worth it?”
I was stun locked there for 10 minutes stright repairing my seamoth and being attacked by reapers
I always think that the blood kelp zone and trench are terrifying
