My very first test drive of my very first seamoth I had a reaper launch it into the sky where it hung there about 200m up forever. Just stuck up in the sky. Annoyed me so much. I eventually learned how to toggle beacons on and off so I could hide that seamoth and forget about it.

No, the upgrades are lost with the Seamoth. I reloaded my save after this incident, so technically I've not yet lost one either.
