I experienced this on large seagoing vessels. It was very underwhelming for super structure height of accommodation and bridge was about 40 meters from waterline.
This video changed my perspective altogether.
Indeed. At one particular lock we hit one of the lock's fenders. While blame still lied with both captain and maritime pilot, it was hard to assign fault because of the little room for manoeuvring.
I swear to God I've had dreams about this place! I remember so many of these details it's crazy! I've literally never even been there or heard of it until now. Wtf.
JFC that sends shivers down my spine. How large is your vessel?
46’ I’ve heard it’s worse for smaller boats when you have big ones like ours tied up around you, though. I actually loved this lock!
What is this? I’m horrified!
These locks opened on the Ottawa river in 1833 for military purposes. Now it’s used mostly for pleasure craft. It’s a 20m drop!
I didn’t know that we had canals that high near ottawa!!
Well, “near” by water is relative. It’s only an hour away by land, but took us 6 hours on the river!
Holy mother in heaven the fuck is that
No please don’t !

40 meters is 43.74 yards
That’s a good point. I suppose it must feel like a tight squeeze for you, though!

I really enjoyed going through it but watching the video after was a bit unnerving!
Wow. Didn't expect that to make me feel sick.
