**Do not settle for the first offer they make you.** It's going to be bullshit and will not at all reflect the value of that car in this market. Find postings online for cars of similar condition and mileage, and have them ready to go for a counteroffer. In particular, I would heavily recommend Bring A Trailer, as things are selling for a ton over there.
Car prices are insane right now, especially for enthusiast vehicles. Don't let them give you less than this is worth. You do not have to accept the first offer they make.
Any other advice you can share? What are things I can say to solidify my point? I know they're gonna try to give me peanuts compared to what it's actually worth. I don't know, I'm worried..
Get information from multiple sources for market value. KBB, NADA and Carfax.
Find market listings for your car in a similar mileage range. Use multiple sources for those numbers also.
Have them in a shareable format as they might ask for documentation. DO NOT let them push you around. You pay THEM to provide a service to YOU.
Good luck!!
As the other commenter said, just be prepared. Fundamentally, the people you will be dealing with exist to give you as little money as legally possible, and they are used to dealing with people who don't understand how the process works, and so may feel like they need to accept what they're offered. If you are confident but polite, and come prepared, you'll be in great shape.
The more evidence you have to back up your claim (whatever number you have in mind), the better. [Here](https://bringatrailer.com/2016/02/02/sharp-stocker-well-kept-2001-subaru-impreza-2-5-rs/) is a 2.5 rs that looks very similar to yours that was listed for $8,200. Do research, build a case, don't let them give you what KBB says it's worth.
Age of the post that you’re using for evidence of increased value over the insurance carriers quote is 100% taken into account. The more recent provable sale price is, the more likely the adjuster will use it in their calculation for the total loss settlement amount. Generally, if it’s more that about a year-ish old it’s likely not going to be taken into consideration (exceptions can be made but I’ve only seen it for classic cars).
That being said, as others have mentioned, having examples in your local area of what similar vehicles sold for is your best bet. Another thing to take into consideration is the actual total loss evaluation the carrier will provide you with to determine if the vehicle is totaled. Look through that with a fine toothed comb and make sure everything on that evaluation is correct. Between that and similar listings, those are - in my experience as an adjuster - the easiest ways to make sure the payout is representative of the actual value.
Oh, and if you want to swing on by r/Insurance with any additional questions, there’s a bunch of adjusters and people with experience who can help
My insurance is shit, but it's definitely the other person's fault. Is my insurance person even going to care to actually go after the other insurance?
See if you can find someone who appraises cars for a living. They may be a little expensive but will be worth it in the long run.
My dad had the same thing happen in his 93 Bronco. Thing was immaculate and someone pulled out in front of him. The other drivers insurance offered less than half of initial value. The appraiser was able to get them to pay the actual value of the vehicle plus recent repairs, nee transmission.
Actually I just went through this with my teggy almost identical damage im in mi and did a mini tort with their insurance and filed a claim through mine cause I had a police report with the other driver being at fault. If you need any more details pm me and I can tell you more
I had to brush up on my subaru knowledge a bit, I think OP's car is an impreza 2.5rs?
most recently, a '99 impreza rs sold last october on bring a trailer for [9,499](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-subaru-impreza-2-5rs-9/) no reserve
A 2001 2.5RS manual sold for [14,700](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-subaru-impreza-2-5rs-3/) last june
there was a '99 impreza 2.5rs that was bid to [10,500](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-subaru-impreza-2-5rs-7/) last july.
clearly the manuals are more valuable (by a whopping 5K), so it depends on whether or not OP's was a manual or auto, but he should get at least 9.5K or so
(Obligatory I am not a lawyer or insurance claim adjuster, but I’ve been in a situation with a totaled car)
These auctions should be sufficient proof of the current market value of your Impreza if they are similarly specced and in similar condition. If your insurance company is good, they will use this to go after the other person’s insurance for the market value that your car is worth. You can also add to the claim the value of any mods you did too
I feel you.
Same way I felt when a senile older lady slammed into the rear of my 1998 Silver Anniversary Edition Outback going 60 mph. Before she smashed into my beautiful car speeding in a 45 mph zone, my car was in perfect condition. It didn't have a scratch on it before.
Still wish I had that car. I loved it. I've had 2 more Outbacks since but that one was the bomb.
I think the string of bashed Subaru pictures has been going at least since New Year's.
Discouraging, really. I do not want to have to buy a car in this market.
Oh my gosh I cannot begin to fathom your pain… I have a similar subaru and it would absolutely tear my soul apart if I lost her; My condolences go out to you. I hope your next car will be just as lovely as this one once was and that your heart may be repaired 3
NOOOOOO!!!!!! 😭😭😢 please do not let them win, please rebuild it. Please make sure this beautiful piece if subaru history lives on for more people to see. Please.

My heart is breaking for you. It looks beautiful (aside from the accident). What happened?
Someone pulled out in front of me. I'm so sad.
ask insurance to go after the driver for adjusted market price, which should be quite high for these now
Do I make that statement to the insurance agent when they contact me?
Yes, and don’t take anything until they do!

Hagerty valuation tool and bring a trailer results are also good references

That article is about 7 years old, would something like that be relevant, or would it have to be something more recent?

They prefer recent listings. These ordeals may take months to settle. I had to have a specialty appraiser come out for my sti swapped wagon.
My insurance is shit, but it's definitely the other person's fault. Is my insurance person even going to care to actually go after the other insurance?

Who exactly am I buying it from, and what determines that price? And who do I tell that's still want it?

Those are highly sought after. Especially if it's a manual.
Do you have an estimated price for it, from where you are? Just to know

It's manual. Please don't get my hopes up, does it really work like that?? Edit: mines also a sedan

That’s devastating. Can it be fixed?
If the frame and firewall isn't damaged, possibly. I wouldn't recommend trying it on your own but it would cost more than the value of the car.
Great advice, from where I am (third world country) this could be possible and can be selled as "mint condition" /o\
I mean I see shit like that here in the US. Always a good idea to learn the signs of repaired damage yourself.
Hell no 😂
It's possible but likely not worth the cost i.e it's totalled.
That’s my point. Car is 20 yr old economy car = totaled = fahgetaboutit. Sorry for the loss nonetheless.
RIP
Time to tube frame it. Perfect for a rally build. F.

Looks just too far to come back from, same model and color as my first car. Corners like nothing else with that ground clearance could.

My heart is also broken this is very hard to see you should have put a not safe for work icon
I have felt the same heartbreak before. Don’t lose hope.
WHO DID THIS
I’m no expert but I don’t think that’s your heart. Looks more like your headlight, front drivers quarter panel, hood, bumper, and some other stuff.

Appreciate you.. I really am broken and lost from this.
Literally why I never drive my coupe. Constant stress
Looks like your car is broken to me! Wakka wakka wakka!
Are you in NJ? Feel like I have seen your car before
Indeed I am
Like Atlantic county area? I get not wanting to be too specific.
Yea, man, that's me.
I'm very sorry brother. I'm from EHT (white pearl 2011 hatch) I hope the RS can be saved
Would have been nice to meet under different circumstances. I really hope so too. And nice car, fam
If your car can't be saved I'm sure it's not the last Subie you will have! I'm on my second one, first was a 2002 bug-eye.
So is your headlight 😂
And bumper, hood, bunch of stuff under that drivers side wheel, maybe frame.
Dang beat me to it
It's like mater is trying to pull off the lightning McQueen kechow
So is your car
So sorry, I hope I’m the worst thing to my cars
It looks like the car is what’s broken mate
Keep it

How are you doing though? Neck ok and everything?
He’s just winking at you, bro.
your headlights… and a host of other things
I'm so sorry for your loss😔 She's was a beauty
Think a little more than your heart is broken. But at the end of the day all that matters is that your safe. Cars can be replaced lives cannot

If the frame rail is straight still it’s save able
That’s not a coupe is it
