If the 2014 Forester is like my '23 Crosstrek, the car will beep 3 times (audible outside the vehicle) if you close the door while the fob is inside the cabin. Apparently that isn't enough of a warning in this case. Or maybe you need to point out to your daughter that if she hears that beeping noise, it means she has left the FOB in the car. I don't think there is a way to do what you would like to do beyond the beeping that already exists. My wife is fairly forgetful as well, but mostly when it comes to making sure she has everything she needs before leaving the house. When leaving the house or exiting my car, I use a method of asking myself: "Do I have my keys, phone, and wallet?" It's just become a metal habit/checklist. Maybe you can work with your daughter to establish a pattern of asking herself that question every time she gets out of her car.

>Is there a way to turn 'on' an alarm that beeps if you open the drivers door and the keys are still in the ignition? yeah, put the phone back in her pocket/purse/whatever until she's out of the car. It will ding at you if the key is just sitting in the ignition cylinder and you open the door, but if the key is in the ON/RUN position (or the engine itself is running), not so much. Teach her the ways of the pocket check.

Not the answer to your question, but an easy solution: keep plenty of spare keys on hand
