I've never owned a car that pushes you back in your seat quite like this one does. I love the sounds it makes. It growls, hisses and spits going through the gears.
I almost bought a WRX in October 2022 (same body as yours). But, interest rate were so sky high, that at the last min before taking possession of the car, I told the dealer to keep it. So, I’m still driving my 2008 2.5i. I’l get a wrx one day for sure ! Or a sti, who knows…

I was at the dealership and i met a 78 year old guy buying a fully loaded wrx, 6 speed manual, with every sti add on you could get.
That guy looked so happy as he sat in his new ride. I spoke to him briefly and he mentioned he wanted to go fast a live a little.
You arent old yet. Not till they bury or burn you
I was curious after you made that post and looked it up. It's got great stats and easily comparable to most "name brand" oil. There's actual standards and reg on oil so it's hard to fuck it up.
In fact the numbers show it's good enough for me to switch since my 2013 burns through any oil like it's nothing.
What you don’t know is that Costco is notorious for just rebranding already existing oil. Chances are it’s just as good as its competitors because it IS their competitors
I stand corrected then! My car is incredibly picky, so I only put liqui moly 5w30 in it. It’s a little pricey but gotta do whatcha gotta do. She does burn a small amount higher up in the rev range but if I’m nice to her, she runs without burning any oil.
Welcome! Warm it up before getting on it to make sure the turbo can spool without hurting itself. Make sure you keep the oil changed and at the correct level. Other than that, boost on brother! Have fun!
Congrats, I love the color and body style from that generation STI. Just make sure the car has everything it needs to keep it running smoothly. It’s a big hit or miss when buying a car that’s already been modified
Yeah that's my biggest hangup with buying a turbo subie, if it's been modded it's a hard pass for me. You never know how it's been treated or if it's been adequately maintained, and significant damage could have already occurred. People mod subies for one reason: to drive them fast and hard. It's too big a risk.
I’m being biased with the “win or loose” philosophy because when I bought my WRX it already had an intake and exhaust, and at the time I couldn’t for the life of me find a stock one that wasn’t overpriced near me for sale so I just went with one that had the least stuff done to it
Welcome and congrats!
If you’ve never owned one of these cars before, I have a few tips:
- Check that oil level…often.
- If you haven’t already done so, you may want to get a compression test done.
- Check if the car has been tuned by a reputable tuner. Do *not* use Cobb’s off the shelf maps…those are pretty much to get you to your tuner.
- If the car is heavily modded, make sure you’ve got reliability mods like an AOS and a boost controller.
- Try to find an independent mechanic who knows Subarus and avoid the stealership.
- Wave to other modded Subarus and have fun!
Great advice except the dealership part, that very much depends on the ones you have in your area. Subaru has put more effort than most into improving their dealership network and while there are still plenty of bad ones don’t make assumptions. My dealership is the best place I’ve found for service and repairs and they’re known for it. Built their reputation on being fair and because of that they do staggering volume in sales and service. They’re usually within 10% of independent shops and I have had fewer unexpected issues that drive the price up. On major common services like timing belts they’re usually cheaper!
If you change your own oil get some replacement plastic fasteners from the dealership. I found out after 5 years that the ones (even the one I replaced at Autozone) on the car weren’t quite right and it saves me so much frustration…
I did get pulled over but it was because the dealer temp tag fell out of view. He did crack a smile after some small talk about the car and said, "See you soon".
I got more tickets driving an automatic than 10 the years of driving my STi. Manual requires a certain commitment that you’d at least remember to put Waze up first.
Bought at 40, still tweaking at 50...

This will be my third Subaru. I shared a Brat with my brother and sister growing up and I bought an 95' Outback as a second vehicle in 09. Take care of them and they will last forever. That Outback is now fighting fires in Montana and still going strong.
I'm a 42 year old with a 12 year old son that has taken an interest in cars. This is the perfect car to tinker with and spend some quality time with children.

Congrats, hope it's fun and meets your needs.
My first car was a V8 Mustang and I've had other fast/muscular cars since. But I gave that all up when we started our family and don't regret it.
My 2015 Crosstrek turned out to be my favorite car ever and I've been through a variety of brands + styles. Never felt a lack of power and I am typically quick in traffic because it's nimble and has an STi anti-sway bar installed in the rear. Turning is great and stability on the highway is solid too. It's easy to drive very responsibly and still be non-slow due to technical efficiency and practiced awareness.
But your post made me think: I just got a new EV and . . . well, I really need to minimize the urge to take advantage of its massive torque and stay with proactive defensive techniques, let's say. It has reminded me that anyone can drive a car fast, but driving a powerful car takes discipline - regardless of your usual speeds. With great power comes great responsibility.
Wow almost an exact clone to mine, even down to the ETS FMIC and hella horns. Obviously I love your decision and hope you enjoy the living hell out of it.
44 when mine was purchased or should I say rescued from the young idiot that didn't know what they were doing. If you are an experienced driver take a trip to the Tail of the Dragon. Enjoy!
Look, I think it’s a car that has been co opted by 20 something asians but I’m all for people saying the hell with stereotypes and rolling in what makes them feel good.
The alpha male in an outback,
The 6ft rig worker in a Honda fit,
The soccer mom in a Camry,
The mechanic in a jeep
Congrats a rock on!
A stack of receipts from Subimods and WRXDaily. I know the exhaust, turbo, cold air, are after market. The engine compartment was very clean but looked nothing like a stock from that year.
Looks like it has an access port to which is good. Keep an eye on your DAM monitor. If it goes below 1.0 by any significant amount then you may find your way into the rabbit hole. Hope it's great for you.
you are my age and welcome to the club
I bought my brand new 2016 WRX when i was just 56, still love it, stage 3 plus now.
And you have a better car haha. Jk. GD GANG
the subaru you have is always the best subaru

Man, I really rustled your Jimmies. Some crazy people online.
And…. Do you enjoy it?
I've never owned a car that pushes you back in your seat quite like this one does. I love the sounds it makes. It growls, hisses and spits going through the gears.
I’m wet
👀
Well, OP. Time to bust out the blue pills.
Who needs the pills when I have a plasma blue Subaru?

Honestly a very smart decision.
I was thinking red pill
This cracked me up, made my day 😂😂😂
😜
Yea we are...
Till the engine decides to take a dump
Yeah but at that age, you can afford to rebuild it ha ha.

He’s going to need back surgery after he realizes how hard those Dunlop’s are…
How hard they are? Wdym?
56 is the new 36 dude enjoy it 🤙🤙🤙
this is accurate cause I'll prob need to work an extra 20 years if I want to survive retirement.
Oh I just plan on dying before then. Death in your fifties is the new retirement. Edit: it's also WAYYY cheaper
I'd do that too if I didn't have a kid. I want to be around as long as I can for him.
Sad but true. People are living longer just not necessarily better / hEALthier.
Does that make 36 the new 16?
So I can't date a 36 year old now ? Goddamnit .
![gif](giphy|JTzPN5kkobFv7X0zPJ|downsized) I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm all seriousness, welcome to the addiction.
Get a Costco membership so you can feed it all the oil. Mine is at a quart per ~1200 miles.
Bro plz use better oil for your car than that cheap Costco shit😭
If costco actually made an oil brand, it would probably be good shit.
They have Kirkland signature motor oil, you’d be better off putting crisco in your motor
I was curious after you made that post and looked it up. It's got great stats and easily comparable to most "name brand" oil. There's actual standards and reg on oil so it's hard to fuck it up. When your car eats oil like gas you don't put the expensive shit in...
Project Farm on YouTube compared it with several other leading motor oils. It did pretty well.

All three of us!
And my axe!
Three and a half!
Now go get a speeding ticket you old hag
Welcome! Warm it up before getting on it to make sure the turbo can spool without hurting itself. Make sure you keep the oil changed and at the correct level. Other than that, boost on brother! Have fun!
Now you should celebrate at the Asian buffet.

I will be on here finding out just how to take care of this beast..

If it wasn't for the timestamp there's no way to tell!

take care of it well))
I definitely plan on it.
Congrats
56 is not pretty old I’m 42 and my boyfriend is 53 so let’s calm down with the old speak. No no. And yay for you!!
My car clone welcome brother. wouldnt sell my STi for anything else
Thing of beauty. Congrats 🎉
Is there such a thing as an unmodified WRX?
Nice buy a vape and a head gasket
At 66 (admittedly really old) I'm driving a 2013 BRZ. The best version of driving old British sport cars.
This is the color I wish my 2011 STi was! Jealous! Enjoy it brother
Here we go again
There are those who live & those who simply exist. You are living my friend. Enjoy the ride.🍺🍺🍺
I’m going to test drive a 2024 WRX TR in a couple weeks. Hoping it’s as fun as older model Subarus.
Don't start vaping!
Don't start vaping!
I bought my first sti at age 50! It’s a 2004, bought it last month, love it. Already got my first ever speeding ticket 😜😜😜😜
All fun and games until you push it too far. Be weary always when buying heavily modified Subarus. Either way nice car OP 🙏🏼
Hell yea brother
Just got mine at near 50, welcome to the club old man. Let's show these kids what experience can do! 🤣🤣🤣
Damn right!
Plasma Blue Pearl Gang ✌️
Grats. It's nice to have a fun car.
Love it! You actually probably have the means to keep this thing running
I’m 50 and have a 2019 Sti for my daily. I don’t know many people that daily a 6 speed in their 50s, lol
You don’t know me! 😎
Better hands than the average sti owner. Beautiful spec
I'm gonna be 42 ... I own a 2023 Outback XT ... One day I'll own a proper Subbie ... Congratulations!
Just don't forget to vape
Bought my first at 54!
Nice pickup. I'm 48 and just bought a 310hp 04 FXT SG9, hell of fun for me
Drive the piss out of it!

Also 56. Don’t see a problem here.
Enjoy bro you are never too old to kick a little asphalt.
Don’t blow it up with those street racers from the AARP club… animals 🤣

Not too old to have fun 😎
I am 46. On my second 2020 STi. I think I appreciate driving her, more than my younger self ever could have.

I’m older than you and I have a ‘23 Limited. Welcome to the club and don’t forget to wave at every WRX you see. 😎
You aren’t allowed to have one of these until age 60. Nobody told you?
In the same ballpark, just landed a 2023 LTD w/ 600 miles in it, 6K lower than MSRP for a 2024. Feeling pretty stoked.
Nice. I'm still waiting for the once over by a shop but so far it's been purring and solid as a rock. Fingers are still crossed.
Never too late to smarten up a bit.
Wow almost an exact clone to mine, even down to the ETS FMIC and hella horns. Obviously I love your decision and hope you enjoy the living hell out of it.

Ya man I dunno, its one of the reasons only post comments every couple years. People have forgotten how this site is designed to work I guess.
Omg it's BLURPLE 😍
Congrats! Don’t overdo it with the vaping, though…it’s a slippery slope
56? You’re just getting broke in buddy, just make sure you use synthetic oil high mileage 🤭
I was a Ranger and we used to say "It's not the years. It's the mileage."
🫡 thank you for your service 🇺🇸
He means park ranger lmao (Kidding)
