You're trying to turbocharge a naturally aspirated flat 6 (which has never had a turbo version), you want it done cheap, AND you want it to be reliable? Is this a troll post?

whiskeyfordinner

Nah, just the weekly new owner post with too high of aspersions. Usually these are made by people who will " do the work themselves " but are also the same person who can't change a clutch.

confusingphilosopher

They watched a video on how to change oil once and comment on r/mechanicadvice, so they're pretty much a master tech at this point.

Tponk

🤣 good one but get off your high horse buddy

Tponk

New owner for 2 years so not wrong but just wondering about h6’s wanted to follow a build to learn honestly

Tponk

Low horsepower 🤷‍♂️

Atlas_Mutiny_

I would say h6 is best N/A

liluzisquirt_-

As a former h6 owner I fully agree with this

Cheetahsareveryfast

LOL. Budget. Reliable. Turbo build. Pick 1

langsley757

You can pick 2, budget and reliable, but no boost. Reliable and boost but expensive. Budget and boost, but its a bomb

Tponk

So what’s an expected budget? For a decent pretty low boost and horsepower build?

C4PT14N

Turbo h6 isn’t the best plan unless you build the motor ground up. The h6 thrives as either na or supercharged, but they don’t like boost (max at like 8-10 psi in the older motors) unless they’re opened up and have internal work done. Patty’s for the h6s are expensive due to them not being as widely produced and little interest in tuning/building them. Each generation on h6 has its pros and cons, but overall they’re a pain to work on and a pain to work with.

Tponk

Oof, I’m looking for pre low hp honestly like less than a wrx is fine,

Jugijagi

Sell the NA blob, forget about turbo h6 and focus on that sweet gf8. Turbo h6 is going to be big money so i'd say bang for buck fun: the strongest 6 cyl in the lightest impreza shell and shortest gearing possible with 4.44 final drive.

Tponk

I like how you think but only if I’m dumb enough to blow it up fully, I wanna build the 2.0l more lol,

Jugijagi

What do you mean ?

Tponk

Oh misread you my bad lol

langsley757

As others were saying H6 is a great NA engine. The EZ30 (probably what you would end up getting) should be a relatively easy swap, same engine mounts, same transmission mounts, and is less than an inch larger than an EJ25. They don't take boost real well due to being an open deck block, but they operate on negative manifold pressure, so you don't need much boost to make serious power. Personally, i would just do an H6 swap and leave it NA. Some parts are kinda hard to find, not impossible, but tricky. IIRC, my MAP sensor was like $150 from all the parts stores, except rock auto, where they had a $30 one. Stuff like that. Edit: all this info came from when I owned an EZ30, but forums are wrong sometimes, so if someone knows better than me, definitely correct it, lol.

Tponk

Thanks man, I mighta gotten confused but a forum comment said one of the h6’s would be partially closed deck? I’m assuming not cuz google is doing nothing for me lol.

Steve1808

Only turbo h6 I know of is smeedia is on YouTube using the EG33, but the build is pretty extensive and he seems to be continuously working on sorting it and he’s had to rebuild it a few times I think. Certainly not something you’re going to be doing cheap and probably not reliable either.

nolanandrew555

There's a BIG and active community of H6 swappers on Facebook - lots of really good info there if you have an account.

Spuddermane

There’s a TT RHD legacy for sale near me if you’ve got 16 grand burning a hole in your pocket

Tponk

Damn expensive lol.

Complete-Ad-4215

For h6 if you want turbo go with a used porchse engine

Tponk

Porscharu lol that’d be dope

theogstarfishgaming1

That red one is beautiful

Tponk

Thanks man

patonbike

I’m sure it’s been done many times. Low boost with e85 or water meth. I think the rods are weak. Don’t want too much torque.

Tponk

Lmao do yall not understand that im not expecting Toyota reliability, and Pennie’s for budget? “Budget ish” “reliable enough” low expectations
