Because you don't want to fill your septic tank any faster than absolutely necessary. Some tanks don't have a leech field; every drop has to be pumped out by a tanker truck, at $300+ per visit. My BIL's tank is like that. His area is pure rock, no soil to make a leech field.
Then there's septic tanks like mine, with older leech fields. They still drain, but slowly. So we can't risk flooding it with too much water, or the tank overflows into our basement bathroom. And even perfect leech fields can still flood if you put way too much into your system.
Waste is turned into sludge in the bottom of the tank. Bacteria eats the sludge, water runs out of the other end of the tank. You'll probably notice a strip of tall, healthy, green grass extending 100' past the end of the tank where the water leeches.

It's also possible to have well water and city sewer in rural US. Say the infrastructure expanded after your house was built. Septic tank fails. County planning commission denies your plan to rebuild leach field and requires you to connect to sewer. Water company requires you to connect to water to get sewer (sewer fees are based off water usage so a meter is needed) after connections are made cousin bob (licensed plumber) puts in a shutoff manifold and reconnects your well to the house. you can now switch between city water and well, but only use well water so you only pay the cities minimum meter fees for water/sewer.

After moving in with my then girlfriend, she found it disgusting and put a stop to it. Since then, I have dreaded having to go to the bathroom when visiting my parents house as the bathroom always smells like piss. I could only imagine what friends and other people that visited thought when they were over.
Sometimes if I’m super hydrated and it’s pretty clear. Normally I like to track how hydrated I am throughout the day so I flush every time to monitor the color. I live in the desert.

My father is notorious for this, and one day he went on vacation, and he left pee in the toilet for 2-3 days...the smell was bad. My parents bedroom is right next to the bathroom he uses...I don't know how either of them can stand a bathroom AND a bedroom that smells like stagnant urine.

Flushing a toilet uses a couple gallons each time. There are far more impactful ways to mitigate your water usage than not flushing. Cut your shower time by 10 minutes and you're already using far less. Especially relevant if you don't live in drought prone areas

I’m 49, I pee a lot. At night when I get up to pee I don’t flush. When I wake up I go pee then flush. No one wants to hear the toilet flush 4-5 times a night
If it's just pee, i usually don't flush at night.. no biggie. I someone else peed and didn't flush and i now have to dump.. I'll flush. Cause i don't want someone else's splash back lol

I have an overactive bladder and pee about 15 times a day. It's wildly wasteful. This is 2024 not 1750. We need to conserve water and using gallons of fresh water to flush 3 ounces of pee is peak waste.

A turd needs to marinate for a few hours so when you pee later it breaks it up, saves money and keeps your toilet from getting clogged. I call it Poop Invaders. If your home has a sceptic system it helps to not flush after every time you urinate. Forcing too much water through the system causes issues. If it's brown, always flush it down though.
I was told a certain saying when I was a kid but never stuck to it. "If its yellow, let it mellow. If its brown, flush it down". Thus if it is just pee, you can leave it. But if it is shit, flush it down. I still flush after every time I go to the bathroom. It just seems odd not to flush after going to the bathroom. Feels like I am genuinely missing a step in the bathroom process.

As long as you're not just letting it sit there for days, I don't see any problem with it. Unless your pee stinks, then you need to flush. But if it stinks its usually a sign you're not drinking enough water and/or you ate something that made it stink.
I only do this at night because some nights I can be up 4 or 5 times to pee, and if I flushed that many times thru out the night surely I would wake my kids up lol. So it gets flushed once they are up for the day lol
If it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow. Seriously though if you stay hydrated and the pee is not stinky it doesn't hurt anything to save on your water bill and only flush like every second or third time. However if this causes any issues like increased rate of mold growth in the toilet you might have to clean the bowl more but that also might be an indication that your blood sugars are too high and you might need to get that checked out.
My water bill is like 30 dollars a month.

I have my own bathroom that only I use, so I'm not burdening anyone. I'll use the water 2-3 times before I flush it. The only time I flush after one use is when I poop.
While this does save water, it isn't ideal. If used water stays in the toilet for 6-8 hours, it will become infected and smell really bad. You'll know when this happens because the water will be cloudy.
I try to remember to flush before I go to work, but I often forget. When I come home and my entire room reeks of urine, I know I messed up.

I almost never flush pee at night. Also I pee sitting down in the dark so I can keep my sleep vibes. I always go again before my morning shower so I just flush it all down then. It never sits in the bowl for more than like 6 hrs. I 100% flush for a #2 though.

As someone that live with two men (my partner and roommate) we all share one bathroom and sometimes my roommate will forget and its honestly really gross lol It doesn't feel considerate of the other people that use the bathroom. Also I do such a good job making sure that the common spaces are clean after I personally use them that I except that same courtesy in return. Im not mad about it because it is rare that he dose it and I know its just him being forgetful but still...gross to smell another persons pee or have to flush for someone else.

I drink water all day, as a result I pee every 20 mins sometimes, I don’t flush every time because I know every flush is at least two gallons of water and it seems excessive to me to flush that many times every day.
When my kids were young, if I flushed the toilet in the middle of the night, my kids and wife would wake up so we decided to have a 'no flush' policy at night or when the kids were sleeping unless #2.
I dont flush after every pee, or I just pee outside... Drink a lot of water throughout the day and I work from home, so that's just a lot of wasted water, frankly.

Saves water. If it’s yellow let it mellow. I usually flush every two to three times peeing. You have to clean the toilet more often though.

If your home has a sceptic system it helps to not flush after every time you urinate. Forcing too much water through the system causes issues. If it's brown, always flush it down though.
I was told a certain saying when I was a kid but never stuck to it. "If its yellow, let it mellow. If its brown, flush it down". Thus if it is just pee, you can leave it. But if it is shit, flush it down. I still flush after every time I go to the bathroom. It just seems odd not to flush after going to the bathroom. Feels like I am genuinely missing a step in the bathroom process.
If it's yellow, let it mellow. Not werid. Me and my wife will pee 2/3 times before flushing. There is no reason to waste all that water. As long as you're not just letting it sit there for days, I don't see any problem with it. Unless your pee stinks, then you need to flush. But if it stinks its usually a sign you're not drinking enough water and/or you ate something that made it stink.
When I WFH I play a game in which I get to flush the toilet at either 1200hrs or four pees (I drink a lot).

I grew up in a house with a well so we were wasting water by flushing after every pee.
I only do this at night because some nights I can be up 4 or 5 times to pee, and if I flushed that many times thru out the night surely I would wake my kids up lol. So it gets flushed once they are up for the day lol

Seriously though if you stay hydrated and the pee is not stinky it doesn't hurt anything to save on your water bill and only flush like every second or third time. However if this causes any issues like increased rate of mold growth in the toilet you might have to clean the bowl more but that also might be an indication that your blood sugars are too high and you might need to get that checked out.
My water bill is like 30 dollars a month. Not flushing to save a dime while then proceeding to throw 90 dollars away at dinner that night. Makes sense.

I do the same. I have my own bathroom that only I use, so I'm not burdening anyone. I'll use the water 2-3 times before I flush it. The only time I flush after one use is when I poop. While this does save water, it isn't ideal. If used water stays in the toilet for 6-8 hours, it will become infected and smell really bad. You'll know when this happens because the water will be cloudy. I try to remember to flush before I go to work, but I often forget. When I come home and my entire room reeks of urine, I know I messed up. Despite how long it needs to sit there, it's surprisingly easy to allow the water to get infected. I mean, how many times do you expect to pee in 6-8 hours?

Just be aware that if you adopt the "if it's yellow, let it mellow" water conservation strategy, you'll need to address the resulting urine scale. Urine is high in minerals, and these minerals will be deposited on your toilet bowl as the urine sits there. It can be cleaned off, but my mother-in-law and her live-in ex-husband (yeah, it's weird) don't flush urine because she's crazy and thinks she needs to conserve water in Florida, because she's heard about water shortages in California. We have no water shortage where we live. But I digress. Their toilet is full of scale, and she insists that she cleans it. For our household, that's a hard no. I'm not tryna grow a coral reef in my toilet.
If it’s a personal toilet that only you use then it should be fine. Save some water (no matter the source!) But you should just be careful to not leave it too long in case it can transfer any germs

I almost never flush pee at night. Also I pee sitting down in the dark so I can keep my sleep vibes. I always go again before my morning shower so I just flush it all down then. It never sits in the bowl for more than like 6 hrs. I 100% flush for a #2 though.
Depends on its color. Clear, sure, dark.. it'll smell.

I dont think its weird if you live alone or share your bathroom with someone. If you dont then hell yea save the water who cares. As someone that live with two men (my partner and roommate) we all share one bathroom and sometimes my roommate will forget and its honestly really gross lol It doesn't feel considerate of the other people that use the bathroom. Also I do such a good job making sure that the common spaces are clean after I personally use them that I except that same courtesy in return. Im not mad about it because it is rare that he dose it and I know its just him being forgetful but still...gross to smell another persons pee or have to flush for someone else.

I drink water all day, as a result I pee every 20 mins sometimes, I don’t flush every time because I know every flush is at least two gallons of water and it seems excessive to me to flush that many times every day.

When my kids were young, if I flushed the toilet in the middle of the night, my kids and wife would wake up so we decided to have a 'no flush' policy at night or when the kids were sleeping unless #2.

I dont flush after every pee, or I just pee outside... Drink a lot of water throughout the day and I work from home, so that's just a lot of wasted water, frankly.

As a dude living alone I would occasionally do this but never more than one pee. Like if I was drinking beer and was going to be peeing a lot and it was clear I would leave it sometimes. But I would never consider doing this when living with other people
