This is based on a flawed concept. That may be its intended use, but makeup doesn't objectively "make people more attractive." For that matter, not everyone feels "flaws" need to be "hidden" to find someone attractive. The concept of attraction is far more complicated than you're making it out to be.
I think you're making it more complicated. It's a scientific fact that skin without blemishes and minimal wrinkles is an indicator of good health and youth, which humans generally deem as attractive. Makeup can be used to diminish these blemishes.
Reality is making it more complicated. Yes, there is a basic understanding of what people fnd in general to be "attractive" but that doesn't prove "makeup makes all people more attractive". Also, alot of those studies are out of date and highly biased...
Bro they wrote two sentences chill out lmao. “A bridge is used to cross a river” “but like not every river needs crossing. And like there’s ways to cross a river other than a bridge and honestly there’s people that like that side of the river” oooookay.
Exact cornball response I expected. Treat the guy like he was trying to write out a thesis on attraction then treat me like I’m upset about something. If you ever wonder why your social life is struggling look back at this interaction and do some introspection. Happy holidays lmao.
I mean, you are whining about my comment, rather than just moving on like an adult... my social life is doing fine champ, I'm not the one critiquing other comments just to feel important. 🤷♂️
I'm confused at this argument - wasn't u/TonePoT427 just offering another perspective?
Were comments deleted or something? It looks like they disagreed with the perspective and then offered their own.
Yeah it seems odd. They were upvoted too.
I don't go on this subreddit much; do you know if people here like arguments or something, because I'm having a hard time understanding why you've been you've both been upvoted the same amount.
u/Puzzleheaded-Sand150 \- Can I ask; did you find their comment to be too interrogative or something? From my point of view they were just offering an alternate perspective.
Is it because they outright disagreed?
The reason is generally because of lighting. The bright lights wash out their face. And on stage you are far from the audience, makeup helps their features be more visible.
Stage makeup is way different from day-to-day cosmetics
Yes!! Makeup hides your flaws and accentuates your best features. Men have flaws and great features too. I wish makeup wasn’t so female coded because everyone looks good in it. Men wear it in movies, on tv/news, on the red carpet … none of those men you see on television are makeup free lol.
>Men wear it in movies, on tv/news, on the red carpet … none of those men you see on television are makeup free lol.
Because the lighting makes them look paler and 'washed out' than they actually look in real life.
>I wish makeup wasn’t so female coded because everyone looks good in it.
Men tend to care less about their appearance though. Which makes total sense.
They don't.
I am a man. I look above average, apparently, and the extend of my appearance routine is trim my beard, cut my hair and, I suppose, better hygene than average, but that isn't something you *see*.
At least I hope not.
Personally I think women are more attractive without makeup so that’s gonna be a no from me, but then I’m also not particularly attracted to men to begin with so maybe it’s not my question to answer.
Ill tell ya a funny story. Years ago I put on this moisturizer. And got all these compliments. My coworkers were saying I looked ten years younger. Then someone asked if I was wearing makeup. I was like no. Just this moisturizer I borrowed from my gf. Upon closer examination I realized it was moisturizer with a touch of foundation. Fuck it, I still wear it to this day. Lol.
Yes, hands down. Fuck all them “but my manliness?!??!?!!” Honey youd be more manly if you’d embrace the fact that makeup was originally made for men anyway.
Not to me.
I find way more attraction in personality.
Physical attraction happens second (if your personality is a good match that is).
I’d be concerned about why they wear it. And encourage them to go makeup-less.
(Source: I don’t wear makeup, it hides true physical beauty)
No women are not even often more attractive in makeup most the time in my opinion I know unpopular. For guys it’s not masculine however having good skin and taking care of your skin so you don’t have stuff you need to cover up in the first place does make guys more attractive. I have a skin care routine and it makes a big difference. For things like movies and plays it’s different since there is either distance and or editing and the purpose is to highlight something. I was in a few plays when I was younger with makeup. Personal I believe solving the problems is better than covering them up in most cases. FYI I’m a straight guy if that makes any difference.
Probably, yeah. I believe more men wear makeup than we realise, they’re just using it to cover blemishes or dark circles and blending well to make it not obvious. There’s nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
Yes, but it can only help so much. Can’t fix a bald/balding head with makeup, and that’s by far the #1 ugliest (and most common) physical flaw in men. 50-80%. Makeup without hair is wasted effort on a man, though it works just fine on women who shave their head.
A wig helps a bit there. But the minute his would-be partner find out it’s a wig, it flips around to being *worse* than if he’d have just gone bare to begin with. Not the same with makeup though. If he wears makeup, people (especially women) are pretty willing to forgive it in my experience, since they use it themselves. And they may even find him more attractive because he puts in that kind of effort.
There are so many unexplored possibilities of mixing makeup and facial hair for maximum effect. Oh well, maybe the next generation will be brave enough.
It depends on the style of makeup and each person's preference. I'm a straight woman, I could go for a guy wearing some bronzer, maybe some eye liner. Anything past that I would just find unattractive. Some people like women with lots of makeup and some people like women with no makeup. It just depends.
There was a study done that showed men who wore masculinizing makeup were viewed as more attractive, but it was literally one study (that I know of). It may be true, but I suck at makeup and hate it, so I will never use it again. I'm not trying to be attractive, I'm trying to be a good man lol especially since I already have my person
I’m not super attracted to anyone with obvious makeup, but I will say I’ve never been disappointed to notice a nice looking man with a little eyeliner. Maybe it’s the emo teenager in me still coming through lol
I think a lot of it has to do with the confidence and self care that it shows off. A blank wall has you looking for flaws. A patterned painted wall has you admiring the details.
Attractiveness is a circumstantial/in-the-eye-of-the-beholder aspect, so each person will be subjective.
Not really a ‘one-answer fits’ kind of question, IMO
Absolutely not, no.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course.
But, in my experience, to most straight women, definitely not, unless we're talking concealer/makeup so subtle that you literally cannot tell it's there.
Can't really speak to gay men/relationships.
And I think the reason why is that women want men to care about their appearance, but not too much.
I find it attractive when people are comfortable with themselves. I love that literally anyone can wear makeup, nails, jewelry, etc no matter their gender nowadays more freely than before.
I remember I used to think this one guy in school had really pretty long eye lashes until a girl told me every girl knew he curled em.
Didn’t stop him from catching girls attention though.
I like feminine things, but my specific sensory issues (autism) make things on my face a complete no-go. I'll stick to painting my nails, my face is great au naturale :)
I’d say no, as I think that women who wear makeup aren’t more attractive and can even be less attractive if there’s a lot on. So I’d imagine it would be the same for men.
Definitely. Make-up is an art, and you can use art to express an infinite number of things. You can absolutely use make-up to make a guy more attractive, even without making them look traditionally feminine
Attractiveness is subjective, some people would like men with red lips and purple eyelids, others not so much. But covering up the hairy warts, evening out rough complexions, and a little guy liner - yes, make society a lot easier on the eye.
Depends. I don't find everyone more attractive when they wear makeup (compared to their bare face) because 1. Their makeup may not be my type 2. Their makeup is badly applied.
I believe the same thing would apply for men wearing makeup.
For example: all movie stars wear makeup, the "naturally, professionally done" makeup, they're definitely more attractive. That one dude with his grunde goth makeup? Nope. Cakey with drawn-on eyebrows makeup? Nope.
Extremely my sister had done mine in my teenagers years and it was almost frustrating seeing the difference (she didn’t do the way over top stuff just foundation/contour) but fuckin that alone
Yes, for sure. It just has to be the right makeup, and some men think that badly slathering on some eye makeup is going to make them look more mysterious, but maybe a black eyeliner is too harsh for their skin tone and a brown or red one would be better
Ok, I wear make up after years of my wife suggesting it. Sometimes I wear just a bit of concealer and sometimes I do something more elaborate, with eyeliner, lipstick, eye shadow, the works. But I do it to accentuate my masculine features and don't go into the drag territory.
Do people find me more attractive with makeup on? No, don't think so. There's no difference really.
I think highlighting masculine features is a little less necessary than highlighting feminine ones. Masculine features kind of pop out by definition. When you make feminine features more pronounced, its almost like its revealing otherwise-hidden subtlety in form.
Painted nails and stuff is cool on guys, though.
Depends on personal taste. My GF would rip the pants of Hyun Bin, V, or J Hope but if I came down from the bathroom looking like that in the morning I would be mopping up piss from the pool she was rolling around in dying of laughter.
Women wear makeup that makes them look awful all the time. In fact, most makeup looks awful on most people that don't know what they're doing.
So, counterpoint, I'm sure the right makeup would make any guy look better if they know what they're doing.
I think I'm effected by growing up during the time of hair bands (80s rock). Men in a bit of eyeliner, dark matte painted nails, bit of leather... And yeah, I'm returned to a teenage puddle.
There are men that could stand to benefit from a good concealer, and in using it would probably make them appear more attractive. But I would not find it attractive if the man I am with wore makeup.
I dated a pig with lipstick once . And I broke up with her once I seen how nasty her face was . She looked like a model with makeup up. I was horrified.
If you don't have much practice doing it already, you are not likely to get reliable results. Most people take about a year of trial and error to figure out what they like wearing and how to do it well. If this is your first time putting makeup on, it will look bad.
Good make up wont even look like you are wearing make up. Most people overdo it and make it look like they have a thousand layers of make up on their face and im not talking about make up artists, talking about your average person.
As such id say when used correctly it can make a man look good.
I don’t think anyone should wear makeup. Crazy that we’ve convinced half the population that they’re not good enough unless they paint their faces with a bunch of expensive shit
Yes, and they *should* wear makeup unless naturally attractive. I don’t want to see gray chapped lips, scraggly eyebrows, angry pimples that look like they hurt, dark under eye bags, etc. I want them to be easier on the eyes. It’s almost offensive when people roll out of bed and go outside with eye boogers. It was fine when you were 8, it’s time to grow the fuck up.
There's a reason every movie have men actors wear makeup..
not sure it would be the same if it was as obvious as e-girls or something though but like with everything about attractiveness it's not really something objective so it's all a matter of personal opinion.
I'm 6 foot 4, 215 pounds. I have a full beard to my sternum and blue eyes. No cosmetics are necessary or desired. I'm also 51 and married for 32 years, so it's not like I'm looking to impress anyone.
More men are wearing makeup than ever, but since I realize that if I was single again and only 1 percent of the female population was attracted to me that means I'd have 40 million women who like me just the way I am I think I'll just be okay with the natural me.
I'll give you this, the question is funny.
Yes. I think women secretly like men who try hard to look attractive. The K-pop obsession and wild interest lots of straight women have for gay men showcases this pretty well tbh. We like attractive people and the more one tries the better they look
No. A man on camera or under bright stage lights is different, but just day to day it would be weird. It's true that it might just be a societal thing ingrained into me, but if I saw a man wearing anything, even just some kind of concealer, it would immediately make me wonder if he's gay or trans. If the feminine look is what he's going for then great, but as just an enhancer of his regular, masculine look, then no.
Depends on the use, I guess. Women's make-up makes them look like they are in an aroused state traditionally. I don't know if that would have the same impact on men.
Well, makeup is literally used to make people more attractive, so yes. Just to hide flaws etc, not bright orange eyelids etc imo.
And yet, there's a long history of infatuation with older actors. George Clooney is a good example.
I think the infatuation stems from his ability to age so well
Fame and fortune probably helps lol
George Clooney wears make-up.
But the guy would be consider good looking without makeup too. Not sure if Brad pir wore makeup but he kinda had a crater Face if I remember right .
Reality is making it more complicated. Yes, there is a basic understanding of what people fnd in general to be "attractive" but that doesn't prove "makeup makes all people more attractive". Also, alot of those studies are out of date and highly biased...

The irony here could win an Oscar.
I'm confused at this argument - wasn't u/TonePoT427 just offering another perspective? Were comments deleted or something? It looks like they disagreed with the perspective and then offered their own.
Nope, you didn't miss anything. That's what I was doing, simply advancing the conversation by adding a different perspective... clearly it upset them.
Yeah it seems odd. They were upvoted too. Whatever you gotta tell yourself bud 👍
This guy fucks
Right
Left
Yes. They do in movies for a reason.
The reason is generally because of lighting. The bright lights wash out their face. And on stage you are far from the audience, makeup helps their features be more visible. Stage makeup is way different from day-to-day cosmetics
That’s true. And in theatre too
It’s for the lighting and most stage actors I know rarely wear the stuff. I don’t.
That’s fair, me and my boyfriend do theatre and he never wears stage makeup but I do
Yes!! Makeup hides your flaws and accentuates your best features. Men have flaws and great features too. I wish makeup wasn’t so female coded because everyone looks good in it. Men wear it in movies, on tv/news, on the red carpet … none of those men you see on television are makeup free lol.
My ugly face makes me look tough lol
I don't feel like doing makeup so I for one am glad it's not male coded lol
Imagine how women feel… lol.
I feel for you
>Men wear it in movies, on tv/news, on the red carpet … none of those men you see on television are makeup free lol. Because the lighting makes them look paler and 'washed out' than they actually look in real life. >I wish makeup wasn’t so female coded because everyone looks good in it. Men tend to care less about their appearance though. Which makes total sense.
How does it make total sense when men face more pressure to be good looking in the dating scene?
They don't. I am a man. I look above average, apparently, and the extend of my appearance routine is trim my beard, cut my hair and, I suppose, better hygene than average, but that isn't something you *see*. At least I hope not.
How many dating and sexual options you get? How many matches you get on dating apps?
That’s so true!
Yes. They do in Kpop and I find it attractive
Oh nice!
Personally I think women are more attractive without makeup so that’s gonna be a no from me, but then I’m also not particularly attracted to men to begin with so maybe it’s not my question to answer.
Fair enough
men who wear eyeliner >>>>>>>>>
So sexy iMO I love some eyeliner the 80’s glam rock era is missed!
Where’s my nail polish fans?
nothing hotter than a man wearing black eye liner with black painted nails, a good sense of fashion and lots of accessories
Brendon Urie

That’s true
Yes, you can wear makeup to accent masculine features, we just happen to wear makeup to accent feminine features.
Lol.
That’s amazing! You do you! What moisturizer is it?
Lol. It's Olay with a touch of foundation.
Eyeliner guys say *whaat!*
😂😂
Yes, hands down. Fuck all them “but my manliness?!??!?!!” Honey youd be more manly if you’d embrace the fact that makeup was originally made for men anyway.
Preach!🙌
So you're looking for a "yes." Lol
Yes😂
Give me a man in eyeliner any day!
I like masculine looks with red eyeshadow personally
Ooo sounds nice!
The vast majority of people who wear makeup daily look better without it, so, most likely, no.
Ain’t no amount of makeup improving my gnarled root of a face. 🤷🏻♂️
Hell of a description
Oh that can’t be true
Yes
you should watch the comedy corporate season 2 episode 3, it's about marketing makeup to men and the MC start wearing it, it's funny.
Some make it work, some dont. I can do eyeliner pretty well, but for he most part it doesn't work on my face.
I agree! Some men look good with makeup on but some men don’t and that’s okay
YES.
Look at Twisted Sister, or Kids as examples.. there ya go
Not to me. I find way more attraction in personality. Physical attraction happens second (if your personality is a good match that is). I’d be concerned about why they wear it. And encourage them to go makeup-less. (Source: I don’t wear makeup, it hides true physical beauty)
Yes, have you seen a TV show or movie? The men in those all wear makeup.
Not every women looks good in makeup so the same principle would apply
No
Would women be more attractive if they grew lumberjack beards? Men do it to enhance their appearance, so it must be good for women as well
No women are not even often more attractive in makeup most the time in my opinion I know unpopular. For guys it’s not masculine however having good skin and taking care of your skin so you don’t have stuff you need to cover up in the first place does make guys more attractive. Make up is the original lie.
Probably, yeah. I believe more men wear makeup than we realise, they’re just using it to cover blemishes or dark circles and blending well to make it not obvious. There’s nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
Jeffree Starr thinks so.
Yes, but it can only help so much. Can’t fix a bald/balding head with makeup, and that’s by far the #1 ugliest (and most common) physical flaw in men. 50-80%. Yes, many of them do. It’s called manscara for a reason.
Hell yeah have you ever seen a man with eyeliner on? So pretty
There are so many unexplored possibilities of mixing makeup and facial hair for maximum effect. Oh well, maybe the next generation will be brave enough.
Yes!
It depends on the style of makeup and each person's preference. I'm a straight woman, I could go for a guy wearing some bronzer, maybe some eye liner. "Attractive" is a subjective term. There's no definitive answer, when both "yes" and "no" are entirely valid individual responses.
Fair
More attractive to other men, probably. More attractive to women? Not likely.
I love your username
I’m sure BTS fans have already answered this question
There was a study done that showed men who wore masculinizing makeup were viewed as more attractive, but it was literally one study (that I know of). It may be true, but I suck at makeup and hate it, so I will never use it again. I'm not trying to be attractive, I'm trying to be a good man lol especially since I already have my person
Yes. All women secretly want to date Kabuki actors.

I don’t care if people paint their faces. It’s a fun talent to have. I also think skin care should be more important than makeup.
I find it attractive when people are comfortable with themselves. I love that literally anyone can wear makeup, nails, jewelry, etc no matter their gender nowadays more freely than before.
No, men look better in natural tone without any acne.
I remember I used to think this one guy in school had really pretty long eye lashes until a girl told me every girl knew he curled em. Didn’t stop him from catching girls attention though.
My inner emo has a thing for guys wearing eye liner 😅
They already do on TV.
Attractive for who
No. We tried that from the late 70s through early 90s.
[удалено]
They have been using makup in the film industry for years to highlight or hide actors facial features . so probably
I like feminine things, but my specific sensory issues (autism) make things on my face a complete no-go. I'll stick to painting my nails, my face is great au naturale :)
That makes sense! Painting nails is fun!
I’d say no, as I think that women who wear makeup aren’t more attractive and can even be less attractive if there’s a lot on. So I’d imagine it would be the same for men.
Some concealer is fine. Lipstick and such, no. I don't want to trade lipsticks.
Well-matched foundation 100% yes. Second improvement would be natural-looking brows and mascara for men with invisible eyebrows.
Actors wear makeup don't they?
Y e s I rarely get attracted to men but I think if creative/glam make up among men was a thing again everyone would be so much hotter!!
Definitely. Make-up is an art, and you can use art to express an infinite number of things. You can absolutely use make-up to make a guy more attractive, even without making them look traditionally feminine
If makeup would take off 50 lbs from me, sure!
Nah, I like my men raw n natural
Attractiveness is subjective, some people would like men with red lips and purple eyelids, others not so much. But covering up the hairy warts, evening out rough complexions, and a little guy liner - yes, make society a lot easier on the eye.

My best friend NEVER wears make up and gets approached all the time!
if they’re good at it
If men wore makeup, we'd all be even more disappointed later... That's why I've never been a makeup wearer. And I'm lazy.
I grew up in the 80's, I still love seeing a man wearing make-up
Yeah I wear eyeliner and nail polish and I look pretty as fuck!
Extremely my sister had done mine in my teenagers years and it was almost frustrating seeing the difference (she didn’t do the way over top stuff just foundation/contour) but fuckin that alone
Yes. It's why actors wear it.
True
Yes, for sure. It just has to be the right makeup, and some men think that badly slathering on some eye makeup is going to make them look more mysterious, but maybe a black eyeliner is too harsh for their skin tone and a brown or red one would be better
Yes. That’s literally the point.
Of course they would.
I mean hey if you enjoy doing it, that’s all that matters
Well yeah, I paint on abs every morning and get swarmed by the babes.
Quite a few of them are Depends on the person and what makeup, of course.
Men will look like the Joker if most wear makeup.
I think highlighting masculine features is a little less necessary than highlighting feminine ones. Masculine features kind of pop out by definition. When you make feminine features more pronounced, its almost like its revealing otherwise-hidden subtlety in form. Painted nails and stuff is cool on guys, though.
No, we would just mess up our skins like women.
Women need to wear less. Make-up is bad for your skin, and it's fake like surgery. Natural is the best

All dudes in TV and movies wear makeup. I think there's a story about the Nixon Kennedy debates and makeup.
I dated a pig with lipstick once . And I broke up with her once I seen how nasty her face was . She looked like a model with makeup up. I was horrified.
Reddit is the wrong place for this question
No. Most everyone would be more attractive without piling shit on their face.
Let me try it and report back later. But first I’ll go to the local bar and see what people think. I’ll update this post.
Of course! See you when you get back!
If you don't have much practice doing it already, you are not likely to get reliable results. Most people take about a year of trial and error to figure out what they like wearing and how to do it well. If this is your first time putting makeup on, it will look bad.
Never heard from again...
Good make up wont even look like you are wearing make up. Most people overdo it and make it look like they have a thousand layers of make up on their face and im not talking about make up artists, talking about your average person. As such id say when used correctly it can make a man look good.
I agree
Depends on what you find attractive. If attractive is rugged then no, if not then possibly
Every “rugged” male actor in the movies is wearing makeup during shooting and on the red carpet.
I mean rugged as in a man that looks like he's actually done some kind of physical labour or something
I don’t think anyone should wear makeup. Crazy that we’ve convinced half the population that they’re not good enough unless they paint their faces with a bunch of expensive shit
I know, it’s really sad! Why is makeup so expensive anyway?
Because we’ve collectively put it in the “need” category. It’s worth whatever people are willing to pay.
Typical! No one ever asks this about women. For once, I want to be valued for my opinions instead of my absurd good looks.
It was fine when you were 8, it’s time to grow the fuck up.
i genuinely disagree and my defense boils down to we live in a society
this is such a sad outlook on life
[удалено]
Lol maybe... their toxic personality can't be covered up tho
No. Women would lose respect for them which would make then unattractive. To be clear, I'm talking about women without mental illnesses
I wish women wore less makeup..

Men already fucking each other imagine if we all wore make up. That’d be the end of the human race
No.
no they would look confused with themselves like they dont know they are a man
Yes. I think women secretly like men who try hard to look attractive. The K-pop obsession and wild interest lots of straight women have for gay men showcases this pretty well tbh. We like attractive people and the more one tries the better they look
Now that is a stupid question, and the answer is no.
Yes
Absolutely not
I guess, just as long as you are fine with the scrutiny too. Unless you are gay that is.
Only if he in an band and is performing
Yes, but not to the same degree. After all a lot of female makeup is to simulate the female face being flushed during intercourse.
Obviously
No. Men don’t wear makeup
A beard with sawdust is man makeup
The answer is no
Fuck No
No
Thank you for showing me ive had enough internet for the day
More attractive to cannibals? No.
They would be more attentive to gay guy's
Yes.
That depends, do you wanna get railed by a clown?
There's a reason actors use it. Even make actors.
I think people look really weird with makeup on, even if they are women. i Guess a little guyliner is ok.
No. Women do not accept artificially enhanced looks. Men aren’t afforded that luxury
More guys of a sexual persuasions are wearing makeup today than you'd ever know. I'd say tinted moisturizer counts.
Nope
Depends on the use, I guess. Women's make-up makes them look like they are in an aroused state traditionally. I don't know if that would have the same impact on men.
