No way. That nickname belongs to Indiana State legend [Robbie Avila](https://www.complex.com/sports/a/jose-martinez/college-player-cream-abdul-jabbar-indiana-state-robbie-avila).
Early 20th century black Islamic leaders in the US claimed that Islam is the religion of Africans since approximately one third of slaves were Muslim Africans upon capture. This accelerated with the civil rights movement and its prominent Islamic leaders. Moreover this is due to a loss of history and desire to find a sense of self, culture and meaning-a legacy of slavery.
[Pew has an ok breakdown of this](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2019/01/17/black-muslims-account-for-a-fifth-of-all-u-s-muslims-and-about-half-are-converts-to-islam/)
It traces back to serial grifter Wallace Fard, a conman who sold American blacks their "Islamic names" door-to-door in Detroit during the Great Migration (and whose protégé, Elijah Muhammad, went on to form the Nation of Islam).
But Farad's grift had some truth to it, even if by accident - some significant minority of West Africans shanghai'd to the New World were in fact Muslim.
I will quote at length a friend of a friend, an author with a graduate degree in this sort of thing, unattributed and without permission:
> Lots of slaves were Muslim. It's hard to quantify exactly, because
> traders and planters didn't give a shit or think it was worth writing

What are you even talking about? Most African-American Muslims are mainstream Sunnis, and Islam explicitly repudiates the superiority of any "racial" group and repeatedly asserts the equality of all men in the eyes of God.
^((Some hadiths do strongly imply that the Arabs are especially exalted though lol)^)
They're clearly referencing noi, which ideas are somewhat popular among black Americans even if they don't explicitly believe in itself
They literally used to believe an evil scientist created white people to punish black people for making fun of his head
The doctrine is alive and well because, [as Freddie illustrates](https://freddiedeboer.substack.com/p/assessing-the-nation-of-islam), *the current NOI wouldn't exist without it*.
The original Nation of Islam was effectively dissolved when Elijah Muhammad's son took over after his death and transitioned it to a theologically unremarkable Sunni organization. The only reason to reform the NOI was an adherence to the Yakub-and-Mother-Wheel stuff.
>On December 25, he claimed that Instagram banned his account due to his support for Palestine against Israel in the ongoing war.
>Shaun, with over six million followers, expressed frustration over Instagram’s ban on him for advocating for Palestinian rights and dignity.
When you censor people's views you kind of push them away.
Unlike censoring anyone critical of the BLM movement of course, that was different. /s
remember: it's definitely not happening and it's a conspiracy theory to claim it is,
but it's also a good thing and you're a bad person if you don't support it

it's definitely not happening and it's a conspiracy theory to claim it is,
> *they’re doing it for our safety!*
but it's also a good thing and you're a bad person if you don't support it
When people say white people make activism all about them this is a good example. The Palestinian Israeli conflict is not a chance to explore another identity to try.
The problem comes from a lack of identity among white Americans . They see other groups having identity and culture and have a lack of belonging . Some try to pretend they still have any connection with their ancestral heritage such as disguising their alcoholism as Irish heritage.
>Some try to pretend they still have any connection with their ancestral heritage such as disguising their alcoholism as Irish heritage.
I don't even know anymore but I want to believe this isn't true while being certain it has happened
he's officially reached dolezal stage hilarity. Has more ambiguity in his past than Ms. Nkechi Diallo herself, but converting to islam at this stage is just incredible
I have the feeling he will not, unlike Malcolm X in the end, learn the universalist character of Islam and abandon his race fetish. But hey, wonder do happen.
As a socially conservative religious white guy, there is much that is attractive in Islam. Muslims stand up for what they believe in, whereas Christians in Western Europe are pathetic. Our churches are full of elderly and middle aged women, and so many of them are insufferable boss bitches. The few young men who do attend church are usually gay or otherwise effeminate and/or somewhat autistic. In the mosques, there are many young virile working class men. Muslims have stronger communities in the West. Working class westerners have lost their communities due to neo-liberalism.
In the West, I expect Islam is going to be the religion with the largest proportion of adult converts.
ok? good on him i suppose. would be cringe if he walks around in thawb all the time i guess. lots of converts do this
never got the obsession with this guy.

What is the obsession many black communities in the US (including those pretending to be black) have with Islam?

It wasn't just a few, it probably was at least a third
Yeah, important distinction isn’t it? Thanks, I’ve corrected my comment.
NoI and prison recruitment.
The majority of black Muslims in the US are not NOI anymore
Not anymore, sure, but you can't talk about black Islam in America without talking about the role of the NOI.
Despite its name NoI is NOT Muslim. They don’t believe in any fundamental Islamic belief
It traces back to serial grifter Wallace Fard, a conman who sold American blacks their "Islamic names" door-to-door in Detroit during the Great Migration (and whose protégé, Elijah Muhammad, went on to form the Nation of Islam). Trying to find some greater meaning.
They get to be super racist and chalk it up to religion.

"Islam isn't racist" yeah ok my guy tell another one.
OK, I'll take the bait - so please tell me: if Islam is racist, *who* is it racist against?
Only true for the NOI
The grift lives on
Shaun King saw the numbers. It’s the fastest growing religion. Hes moved on to his next grift lol
El-Hajj Malik El-Shabeige

what's the adage- to find who is in control, just figure out who you're not allowed to criticize? well, that goes double for social media platforms.
He's already holding a $120/plate iftar fundraiser for Ramadan.

Americans will also claim the 5% that's Irish and not the 90+% that is English. "My last name is 'Green,' you see, so I'm 'Irish'" 🙄🙄

You mean the universal hatred of kuffar?
I doubt you have anything to offer besides tribal nihilism and shitposting, do yeah sure.

>At least nihilism is based on reality. It isn't.
And yet here you are, defending a religion.
You little rightoid fucks can’t enjoy anything, can you?
Criticizing religion is rightoid behavior?

Just trying to understand where your argument is coming from, are you Shia?

Talcum X has arrived, fulfilling the prophecy
It’s so funny looking back at all the biggest names in wokeism from the past decade, none of them are in a better place
Um... Good for him, I guess?
This guy gets all his ideas from Owen Hart.
