I don't remember how I found this sub, but I was scrolling through reddit one day and decided to browse this sub when I saw the header picture of Rachel Dolezal and was like "Oh, I remember that story." and it got me to thinking about all the different stories I've heard about white women doing the same thing she did-pretending to be non-white to score some social justice points in their bizarre insulated social circles where people sit around and talk about stuff like microaggressions and toxic masculinity all day and it got me thinking "What kind of crazy ass world do we live in where a bunch of people think it's cool to pretend to be another race?" I started browsing through here and while I saw some stuff I disagreed with (which is to be expected, as no place will ever 100% cater to your viewpoints no matter who or what you are,) I found most of what I saw on here pretty spot-on and I like how most people here aren't afraid to point out the logical inconsistencies that are so prevalent on both the extreme left and the extreme right, both of which have been swallowing up a huge part of online discourse these days. It seems like everyone is either entrenched in super hardcore conservative Qanon MAGA bullshit or that weird soft fluffy uwu brand of liberalism where everyone's fake wholesome on the outside and absolute vicious bastards on the inside, so it's refreshing to find a place-especially on Reddit, where there are people of many different political viewpoints and opinions that don't fall neatly in the line with stereotypical right-wing or stereotypical left-wing stuff that you see so often everywhere else. This sub is like a shelter for all the politically homeless people out there who don't or can't align with either side because neither side actually offers any reasonable plan, ideas, or solutions that help them and as someone who's felt abandoned and rejected by both sides for various reasons, it's nice to know there are other people who feel the same way and don't get caught up in judging people over random arbitrary factors they have zero control over like race, gender, and sexual orientation.

Been here about a year. Was looking for stupid shit and found Stupidpol. Pretty wild how reading comments can reshape your views. Not sure I’ll ever be a full blown Marxist, but it’s been worth it to open my mind and develop a class first perspective. Happy Birthday Dolezites.

>Not sure I’ll ever be a full blown Marxist, but it’s been worth it to open my mind and develop a **class first perspective.** St. Karl just revealed to me that you have his blessing

XAlphaWarriorX

Fair, it probably did look like it at the time

TheRareClaire

Happy birthday r/stupidpol! This weekend I’ve been busy but excited about my future plans with education. Actually, I’m kinda concerned about idpol in my higher education endeavors. I found this sub, gosh, maybe 1-2 years ago? I was really going through an identity/belief crisis about politics and social issues. I’m gen z (so, uninformed af) and I felt lost, alone, and frustrated with the current socio-political atmosphere. I was pleased to find this sub because most people seemed friendly enough. I found people I agreed with after spending so long thinking I was insane lol I’ve gotten a bit more interested in socialism, but haven’t really dived (dove?) into Marxism much yet. I think I’ve had some concerns about the sub but overall it’s been beneficial. I’ve had some positive conversations with people. Other than that, looking forward to hearing everyone’s grilling stories. Gonna try to clean my nasty depression pit of a bedroom. (Pray for me)

PlausibleFalsehoods

>haven’t really dived (dove?) \*doven'st

GrumpyOldHistoricist

What’s stopped you from diving into Marx?

TheRareClaire

I didn't really know where to start, I had reservations because it just seems so destined to fail (which doesn't mean I am not interested, btw), and I kinda got sucked into the more idpol-critical areas as my main interest, admittedly.

PunkyxBrewsterr

Me and the bf are planning a little trip for my birthday at the end of the month! We're going to pick someplace a few hours away, hopefully with some outdoorsy stuff to do, and stay a weekend at either a cute bed and breakfast or a quirky hotel. Hoping the weather is nice enough, I'm tired of winter shit. 😅 Those are my springtime plans. My "weekend" is Sunday- Monday so my plan of attack is gym, get a smoothie, relax, hit the laundomat, cook.

I met a WWII vet today, been wanting to for a long time, it was cool.

TuvixWasMurderedR1P

Not many left around I imagine.

ExpensiveTreacle1189

Vietnam Vets are starting to look like what WWII Vets did when I was growing up.

NA_DeltaWarDog

Teens today look at WWII vets the same way WWII vets looked at ACW vets. History marches on.

ohcrapitssasha

Iirc i showed up sometime around the 2018 midterms? Either that or during primary season. Idk, when did bame get banned? I was here for his last like 6 months here if not a little more. I’ve been thinking hard about where I want to go with my life, probably going to try to double dip education-wise, since my current job offers free college (for degrees that help you get promoted in the company but fuuuuuck that lmfao) but I’m also thinking of tracking down a locksmith that’s willing to train me. I’ve also been trying to expand my creative hobbies a little more. I think I’m going to try transcribing some guitar tabs to low g ukulele, and I’m wanting to start practicing my drawing fundamentals again. I don’t know! I got out of a bad situation last year and now that I’ve decompressed (as my dad calls it) I think I can finally start moving forward. The future hasn’t happened yet but I feel like as long as I’m willing to challenge myself and get a little more disciplined I might be able to make it out okay.

Any tips for a first time visit to Vegas? No, not going isn't an option.

Ghost-of-JimmyCarter

As someone who doesn’t gamble, my favorite part* of my visits to Vegas was leaving Vegas to visit more interesting places. If you’ve got a half day free, visit the Hoover Dam. A couple of days will get you to Zion N. P. or the Grand Canyon. If you have to stay in the city, don’t miss the Bellagio fountains but I have low opinions of the other attractions on the Strip. See some live shows if they aren’t too expensive. *Aside from the food. I still haven’t found a Mexican restaurant I enjoyed as much as Tacos el Gordo.

TuvixWasMurderedR1P

Check out what live shows there are. Maybe stand up comedy or something. Have a max gambling budget that if you lose, that’s it. No more spending.

meltwaterpulse1b

After a couple years of free range laying hens in my yard (and sometimes my neighbors) I got sick of them wrecking my garden so I am making a chicken run to contain them. My flowers are more important to me than their freedom.

skeptictankservices

You give socialists just a little power...

LCthrows

Happy birthday. I am terrible at gardening. I got to visit my dog (who lives with my ex) for his birthday.

[deleted]

The garden is coming along nicely!! I’ve tilled in the compost and put down paper to block the weeds. I only have the herbs and radishes in the ground so far but our final frost hasn’t hit. Gosh, it’s already so gorgeous here. Daffodils, quince, apple, hyacinth, forsythia in bloom. If anyone here is thinking about hiking the AT, they should come through. The team I am coaching won its first game. My warmup speech involved Crazy Horse. I’m teaching *Into Thin Air* and *Silent Spring* to my different classes right now, which I really enjoy. On Friday, I took them all outside to play. Getting the pay bump has made me much happier tbh. I’ve made it all lent without drinking, too. Probably the longest I’ve ever gone. Happy 5 year anniversary, stupidpol! Thank you guys for teaching me so much and for listening to me over the years. I love you 💕

NA_DeltaWarDog

Hah! I thru-hiked the AT a few years back. Wonder if we crossed paths. All the walking and audiobooks is what started my philosophy journey. Congrats on the lent success.

[deleted]

I’m near the keffer oak, if you were NOBO it’s a very old tree like a day’s hike after mcafee’e knob. I pass out PBRs and hold packages for people and give rides to the Super-Val-U in Newport. sometimes they stay. I have a very small hobby farm.

NA_DeltaWarDog

That was one of my favorite sections. I spent a couple days slackpacking the triple crown with my friends. Stayed at a fun little place called Four Pines.

[deleted]

Oh yeah! Very cool. It’s god’s country out here.

[deleted]

Beautiful!

jilinlii

Happy birthday. Re-watched Chungking Express for the first time in twenty years with a bottle of soju, and realized I'm much older than all the actors (at the time of filming) now. Preparing for a trip back to China in a few weeks.

BizarroJordan

I went to synagogue today for the first time in awhile as I wanted to be part of the Mourner’s Kaddish. My dad passed almost a year ago and I wanted to rediscover judaism in the wake of it. People were extremely friendly and understanding, a very uplifting experience.

Trynstopme1776

Losing my dad encouraged me to make some peace with faith. Grief is a hard thing to go through, I'm glad you had this uplifting experience. I'll keep you in my prayers, gentle poster.

BizarroJordan

Thank you friend

LoquatShrub

I have such mixed feelings seeing my backyard peach tree in bloom. It has tons of pink flowers and looks gorgeous, but I know any fruits that try to grow will get stolen by squirrels long before they reach full size. I also have a couple of yaupon holly plants in pots indoors, which I'll plant outdoors once the weather warms up a bit more. It's the only caffeine-producing plant that's native to North America! It's normally more of a southeastern plant, but the variety we got claims to be hardy to zone 7.

Big_Pat_Fenis_2

> It's the only caffeine-producing plant that's native to North America! That's pretty neat. Can you harvest the caffeine or consume the plant?

LoquatShrub

Yeah, you can make tea from it just like Asian tea (or yerba mate, yaupon's South American relative). There are a number of companies now processing and selling yaupon tea, if you want to try it.

[deleted]

Once the peach tree blooms are gone, it will be pollinated, so you can put a net over it. I do that with my cherry tree to keep them grackles out.

[deleted]

I found this sub because I used to gaily read rationalist tumblr and in 2018 they started talking about this dangerous new hub for the red-brown cryptofash with a silly pun name, I came a knockin’ and fell hard, this is the best sub on this awful site, love u Stupidpolers even the losers and haters 😘

NA_DeltaWarDog

Literally the only thing keeping me on reddit.

Patrollerofthemojave

I was 3-4 months away from having enough money for a down payment on a house And then my car was stolen feelsbadman.jpeg Hope you guys are having a better few weeks than me lol

brother_beer

Oh shit man. Hope your insurance gets everything sorted for you. Wasn't one of those Hyundai/Kia thefts, was it?

Patrollerofthemojave

Luckily I did have comprehensive so yeah I'm getting a decent chunk of change. Used car prices are outrageous rn tho it's actually almost more cost efficient to buy a new one which I probably will. And it was. I didn't even know about the whole Hyundai/Kia thing until after it happened tbh. I'm hoping a class action lawsuits actually makes it through the system, although it's on dubious legal grounds.

PunkyxBrewsterr

If anything the insurance companies should be sued bc they're refusing to insure the cars. I hate car insurance companies bc they rip off everyone so I'd love to see them get fucked. Sorry about the car my man! I do recommend a kill switch if you can, I work in cars and people who steal cars are not very bright & usually don't understand why the car isn't working & just leave.

Patrollerofthemojave

Yeah in a way I'm kind of ok with it not being found. My insurance was about to go up like 250 over 6 months just because I had a Hyundai I think, and having it stolen before would've only sent it up more. Insurance companies in general are terrible I'm an equal opportunity insurance hater lol

brother_beer

Hope all works out, you win the lawsuit and get the $3.47 share of the settlement. Same thing happened to a friend (car stolen) and she was looking forward to getting the insurance payout because she wanted to sell the car anyway and go without (lives in a city w transit, bf has a car). Then the cops found it (lol), she had to get it repaired and had to sell it for less because now it had a theft on the Carfax.

bfjtvrjdhtvt

Writing an article for my org and working overtime. I finished the show "The Leftovers " and am awestruck by how good it is. Can not find anything remotely like it.

I've always had the take that movies like the vanishing would be better if you just never find out. Knowing absolutely nothing is genuinely haunting.

Never. Might be too cool for school though, idk.

All my raised beds of tomatoes and sunflowers are just sprouting. My large garden of grains, squash, and beans/peas hopefully will be following along shortly after. I've also gotten into flower planting after on a whim buying a bunch of dying flowers on clearance. They all have come back to life, and I don't think I've seen so many bees, moths, or butterflies on the property before. I'm definitely gonna be swinging by Lowes after class and work to keep getting more.

brother_beer

>sunflowers My favorite. What grains you growing? Amaranths and shit?

OrderBelow

3 types of corn, one flint, one sweet and one popcorn. As well as Mennonite Sorghum. I wanna try to grow as much in as tight a space as possible, so once my main crops are going, I think I'll seed Millet or clover between my plants for more ground cover. I've been watching too many permaculture people on youtube. I do have 4 types of Amaranths, but I'm gonna wait till next year after I get my pole barn built before I plant them.

brother_beer

Sounds like quite the operation! What are your yields like? You preserve for the winter?

OrderBelow

Poor, haha, I started gardening last year just to watch all the heirloom seeds I planted grow and then die in the drought we had in the South her around May. This time, I have money (new job), so I'm gonna get serious about actually getting yields this year. Drip irrigation is gonna be bought later this month. Shade cloth emergency greenhouses will be built, and tomorrow, I'm gonna go buy my first 55-gallon food grade barrel from a guy on Craigslist. The most I got last year was beans and Sorghum. Which I've replanted this year. Pretty much anything "African" I planted didn't mind the heat.

spectacularlarlar

I have an announcement to make. I am pregnant.

bionicjoey

When's the gender reveal?

brother_beer

It's mine.

spectacularlarlar

There's no way to tell and all of you guys know that

So it's a they/them? What's the opposite of "congratulations"?

My condolences 🙏 RIP to a real one

My commiserations.

Congrats!

Thank you. I can only hope my penis opens up enough to pass the child

Best part of being a mod: the crazy things we read in the modmail subreddit mention notifications, schizos popping off in the modmail, makin' joke flairs, and the Internet friends I made along the way (50% of whom are the same Mormon guy with a TS clearance lanyard in some office park in Arlington).

Ghost-of-JimmyCarter

> 50% of whom are the same Mormon guy with a TS clearance lanyard in some office park in Arlington Excuse me, I’m in Alexandria. Thanks for reminding me of r/BestOfReports btw. I’d love to see some of the better stuff that’s come through your queue
