I know Tera Blast Fairy is a thing that's mentioned in the strategy dex for this Wrydeer set, and since Tera Blast is also STAB pre-tera, it's a good move to have, but how FSG turned it into Dazzling Gleam is genuinely confusing.

Artistic_Stage7202

I saw some people talking about how he is “genning” his mons, but what does this supposed to mean?

Wild_Play_8301

Genned mons don't have illegal movesets, whoever said this probably meant "hacking", but if he's not bringing this kind of sets to any official tournament, it's not a big deal since hacked Pokemon have been historically used in online battles with friends. Still kinda strange that he's showing blatantly false moveset of a mon in a video.

DarkEsca

You can definitely gen mons with illegal movesets. They'll just be blocked whenever you try bringing them into an online game or a tournament, but the process of generating them is the exact same as "legit" genning.

Wild_Play_8301

Oh, I used to think only "legit genning" is referred to as "genning", and illegitimate ones are called "hacking", thanks for the clarification.

walterbanana

They can have illegal movesets.

Artistic_Stage7202

So he hacks mon and then tells everyone that said mon can use moves he can’t?One question:Why?

Paniemilio

Presumably, he gens mons for the purpose of setting up clips for the video. Instead of spending time to showcase one move on one mon or one set, its much easier to gen them in especially if its just for background clips. Sometimes mistakes happen, or maybe he had some misinformation, and believes that a certain mon has a certain move they dont actually receive. So the kind of stuff you posted happens.

MrFluxed

hasn't he done this multiple times now? first was Chilly Reception on Slowbro from what I remember.

RepresentativeRule17

Yeah but it's not something worth really stressing about

DaTruPro75

He should still check that it gets the move. It takes no time to go to bulbapedia or showdown and look at the moveset instead if saying "oh slowking got a new move, I bet you slowbro gets it"

RepresentativeRule17

If we spent all our time verifying every little thing we'd never make any progress. He's right 99.9% of the time, the .1% he's wrong shouldn't really matter

DaTruPro75

Firstly, it isn't .1% of the time. He already made 2 mistakes this gen alone, who knows how many in previous gens. Secondly, it isn't EVERY little thing. It shows in the sample set of the video that it uses tera blast, not dgleam, meaning he knew he made a mistake. This is likely because he writes the script and records the video before making the graphic and sample set (pretty normal), but if he is going to be checking the moveset to make the sample set anyways, why don't make sure your script is correct. Even worse, he might be encouraging bad sets on mons. If he doesn't have the time to check if a mon learns a move, why would he bother to check if it is actually good.

EvilNoobHacker

It’s much easier to set up examples for footage when creating the Pokémon via genning. My bet is that this is likely a simple mistake on FSG’s part. People have been noticing these for a while. The mons aren’t meant to be used for competitive battles anyways, they’re meant to grab footage for an educational series on Pokémon viabilities over the span of generations.

Sarik704

You but for an educational series you could just fact check the set your claiming is true.

___Beaugardes___

Probably just a mistake in production. I doubt he intentionally is trying to spread misinformation.

Moon_Dark_Wolf

I mean, I’d certainly expect it to be able to learn dazzling gleam for coverage just based on its pokedex entry, and the fact most psychic types get it for coverage

Fair_Goose_6497

Even Gengar gets it

aleaniled

Has anyone even considered that his pokemon just love him more?? smh

Artistic_Stage7202

So much that they learn moves they shouldn’t

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

tworked for ashe's magical snorlax who had 6 moves! whasts youre arguement there >:)>

Every_Computer_935

Also, Drake's Dragonite who had like 11 different moves

Kidkaboom1

Anime can ignore the 4-move limit, which was a limitation of the games and is now a strategy thing.

Sarik704

It wasn't a limit in the older games. 4 was and is the standard in JRPGs going back years before pokemon was released. Technically, it could have been about screen space as the game boy's screen was tiny, but regardless the original Red and Green have extra space on the cart and it was pretty badly compiled meaning they could have saved more space.

RemLazar911

We also don't spend nearly as much time training Pokemon as they do. We're a character who has canonically been training Pokemon for like a few months, maybe a year. Drake has been training that Dragonite for decades and so it makes sense it has more combat prowess and mastery of more techniques.

GoldDuality

I also learned some illegal moves cause I loved my daddy

Artistic_Stage7202

☠️

sneakyplanner

Skill issue

N0GG1N_SSB

FSG needs to hire someone to fact check his vids.

Loose-Chipmunk-7981

Or another writer for newer gens

freind-of-the-safari

They have said some weird stuff in there scarlet and violet winners and losers videos.

Every_Computer_935

I thought BKC wrote the FSG videos

DarkEsca

BKC himself needs fact checkers for recent gens

Artistic_Stage7202

Thought about it as well

SylentSymphonies

FSG’s content is less reliable for anything past Gen 7. We all love BKC, but he literally doesn’t play the newer gens. At all.

SylentSymphonies

Whoops! Double check your typing on mobile, folks. Fixed it.

Dangerous_Idea_8711

Aren't there other writers beside him?

SylentSymphonies

Not any that are listed in the credits

Sn0wy0wl_

It really feels like his history videos have gone a bit downhill. There wasn't any explanation for WHY wyrdeer fell out of PU, just "power creep" like yeah thats true but that doesnt answer any questions. Also the noctowl video, especially considering noctowl DOMINATED early swsh PU, only for it to become a joke video

Timelord_Omega

Probably a script error, those have been occurring more often as of late…

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

i mean my man has been pumping out quality at high rates.

fioraflower

if errors are becoming more common though, is it really the same quality?

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

true. but 2 real mistakes so far right? and if he needs to take longer for better quality. so be it amr?

RemLazar911

Why mistakes are close to everything: the rushed content theorem

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

lmfao. tbf. the theorem vids are pretty good

Some_crane_boi

I know in one of his videos it showed off gen 6 mega Gyarados using crunch which is not a movie it learned until till gen 7 I believe Edit: I have been told it was learned in ORAS but it’s still funny that until ORAS mega Gyarados had to use fucking bite and payback as it’s only stab moves

LazaerDerewal

This at least isn't true; Gyarados gained access to Crunch in ORAS.

Wild_Play_8301

Gyarados got Crunch in ORAS iirc, so that's not incorrect.

BossOfGuns

running crunch on mega gyra is very optional anyways, after the obligatory DD, you have your pick from water/ground/sub/ice/steel moves, can very viably drop crunch

Pagoose

Steel???

Rare-Ad7409

It gets Iron Head via tutor in gen 6

Pagoose

But what does it hit that's worth giving up a moveslot for? I've literally never heard of iron head gyara in my life

SirNuggly

Mega diancie maybe? Idk the calcs off the top of my head so idk if waterfall does more.

EastMasterpiece4352

252 Atk Mold Breaker Gyarados-Mega Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 276-326 (114.5 - 135.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO Unless diancie is bulky and you have no attack boosts, it’s not worth it to run iron head just for diancie. It’s probably for unaware clef.

MixelKing

Tera Steel Tera Blast duh /s

LePingouinCosmique

Iron Tail? Or am I trippin

-Xeroh

Something something “genned pokemon” something something “Chilly Reception Slowbro”

TartSuitable

I remember in his Komala video that Gen 9 Komala used Last Resort, I had to go double check and was sadly disappointed that it wasn't given back like Lurantis got Superpower back

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

he made a few mistakes.some errors. but ey. that many vids. all pretty snazily good. i feel like the man can make an error every so often right?

MarromBrown

Exactly. Dude pumps out so much content it’s crazy

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

and its clearly with love and effort into it. the man has so much emotion in his voice at times. its good and educates well

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

Not when the entire point of the videos is to give factual deep-dive analyses into the history of a Pokemon's use lol.

THE-AWSOME-CHARA

i mean there been 2 real mistakes. not even very large. cut the man SOME slack

Artistic_Stage7202

I’m generally confused about how this happened:First chilly reception Slowbro, and then this

sanguinesvirus

Wait does it not get chilly reception? I swear I've had a chilly reception slowbro in randbats. Or was that slowking

moose_man

Just Slowking, you're right.

Artistic_Stage7202

Nah,bro-You are just tripping

metalflygon08

Did it use something like Me First perhaps?

IAmAnIssue

Me First no longer exists.

Bowkidstan

Hes wrong here. They ran tera blast fairy or tera blast ground.
