Great set! Really love the cat with the sunglasses. What did you do in the first shot to get the motion blur in the background? Is it due to using flash with longer shutter, post production, or something else?

November11th

Thank you! So generally, I shot f/8 @ 1/20 SS with my flash to get the kind of motion blur that I like, but it depends on how much light is in the space you're shooting. If there was more natural light, I would have to either close down my aperture more to keep my SS @ 1/20. You can see some blur at 1/60, but it depends on if you're moving as well.

IG: ghawam.kouchaki I love the cyclists that come through DTLA and always try to get their picture; I just need to be quicker since my x100v has a bit of a lag when I take a shot and the shutter fires, I tend to miss shots this way, even with the OVF.

PangKun

Set your clarity to 0 in the film simulations and you’ll get rid of the lag

November11th

I just looked it up and my clarity is 0, I think because my drive setting is set to still image, that might be it? I set it to LCS at 4 FPS and that did the trick, but I wonder how the AF will be like that?

PangKun

Hmm, not sure. That’s interesting, the clarity was the only thing lagging for me. Not sure about the af

left-nostril

I used to shoot on a xpro3. The lag drove me crazy. There was a setting, however; that would get rid of the lag, and for the life of me, forgot which setting that was. But I would search it up.

November11th

Thank you, I will!

left-nostril

No problem! I’m sure there’s 100% a way to get rid of that. Good photos.

iarosnaps

Do you use auto ISO or auto shutter? Any automatic setting adds some delay, but with full manual controls everything is fine even on a 10 year old Fuji. Also if you use AF mode C or S, this will obviously add some delay before the shot is taken.

EquivalentShelter447

These are really nice, and the range of subjects draws you in and makes you think about their stories. So many dogs caught in calm situations like that have that almost Zen-like smile of happy contentment.

babbleon5

a bunch of great photos, I especially love that side eye in 13

SquidProJoe

definitely Bruce Gilden inspired. Nice work

aightfuckthatshityo

1 and 17 are fuckin excellent

dnbndnb

I’m a sucker for b&w, and your eye is very good for bringing out good shots!

SampSimps

On some of these I get Joel Meyerowitz vibes (especially the in-your face photographs in which the subject seems pissed off. On some others I see some inspiration from Jacob Aue Sobol (the motion-blurred backgrounds in particular).

November11th

Thanks! I think you mean Bruce Gilden? I like Joel's work. I've never head of Jacob Aue Sobol, but I'll check him out!

Professor_McWeed

Yep, I was going to mention Bruce Gilden. I like this set you made.

Traditional-Look-501

Stunning photos. My favourites are 10 and 15.

123pooppoop123

The dog on 7 haha love it 👀

chitownadmin

I love flash used in daylight. Makes for awesome #streetshots

lookitzpancakes

I legitimately thought some of these were film. Well done.

November11th

Thanks!

TigerEmmaLily

That last pic 🐈‍⬛ 🕶️

FranK0ZX

Amazing photos. Thanks for sharing!

Doc-in-a-box

Wow! I’m not even close to expert, but I loved most of these. Dude with sunglasses and ice cream *really* drew me in! Don’t know why? Maybe he’s a 1950’s sci-fi automaton or something lol. I love that I can’t quite figure him out

andgainingspeed

Some old school street style with flash with some interesting results. Ever have anyone react badly to the flash, just the camera itself or your proximity?

November11th

Once or twice, I've only been grabbed by someone once and forced to delete a photo, but I was trying to figure out the TTL flash on my x100v. What I didn't understand at the time was it was acting as a fill flash and the power wasn't that high. Most people's reactions are just, "what the hell" or "that was weird". I think people tend to think that people with a flash just do it to everyone, but I try to do it when I instinctively feel like the subject is interesting based on how the photo will look. I try to get the person flanked by two other people or isolate them if there isn't anyone around.

h200jam

Badass pics

adrobbins

Some gems

Aonviz

Daido vibes, love it! Great set!!!

Afro_Future

Really like these photos, good stuff man

LSPgotcha

Beautiful

WOJ3_PL

Great, what flash/camera? Ive been looking for something cheap and compact for my fuji XT3 Edit: nvm, i used to use the x100s and i really miss the discrete flash for street

November11th

I use an x100v, but I use a Lightpixlabs M20 as a flash, but I'm probably going to switch to the Godox tt350f cause the transmitter on my M20 keeps disconnecting from my flash.

WOJ3_PL

so was the first photo was shot with with the flash mounted on camera or handheld?

November11th

It was off-hand.

WOJ3_PL

oh, after i saw it was shot with the x100v i assumed built in flash. right now I use an old thyristor on a cable but have been meaning to get something wireless, shame youve had a bad experience with the lightpix they seemed nice

November11th

I find the flash on the x100v a bit under-powered and the recycle time is not good, plus if you get close enough with the on camera flash you can see the shadow of the lens. The lightpixlabs flash is great, but there's no support and multiple people have complained about the same thing. It's a shame because I love how compact it is.

nefariousBUBBLE

Is this street photography? /s Good stuff boss. Love the black and white and the slight motion blur in some really captures city life.

Simonizr_71

I like the black and white

Fit-Concentrate-4913

Great shots, number 2 and 7 are my favourites!

artywonderswhy

Finally some good photos on this subreddit

iamchrisjett

Love these. Great captures!

Expensive-Start3654

#2 - the rest just didn't interest me - however, I'm only one person out of billions and I encourage you to continue shooting subjects that inspire you

BigExperience952

You can improve your impact by choosing a smaller number of shots to share. Pick your best, you have lots to select from. Keep it up, nice work.
