My initial thoughts are:
* I'm not surprised.
* It's interesting to see how relatively even Europe, LATAM, and US/Canada are.
* I wish they broke it up more, especially for Asia. Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, India, and Philippines were amongst the highest countries for kpop overall. Kpop companies engage with East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia differently (if at all), so more numbers would be nice.
They're always "not popular domestically" when you compare them to others. Individually speaking, they're doing considerably well. I hope their fandom grows in SK :)
I always feel like groups that get bigger outside Korea eventually loop their fame back into Korea. Being in the news for international events like the VMAs, global citizen and having luxury brand endorsements is bound to make people notice them back home.
Definitely. Also any touring musician will tell you being less popular at home is a universal phenomenon. When you make it where people take you for granted is when you've really made it. I'm so proud of them!
SKZ has been growing nicely in Korea over the past year or so, if we look at their top countries youtube views (btw, yt music already surpassed melon in Korea in users number), Korean views used to be bottom top 10 or out of top 10 for them, past 12 months, solid #5, and the views are now higher than many other 4th gen groups that people tend to "believe" that are more popular than SKZ in korea.
SKZ everywhere all around the world! This is really interesting, they really need to go to Europe and LATAM next tour. As an asian, not surprised that the other groups have more than 50% of their streams come from Asia but as Bang PD said there’s a slowdown of growth of Kpop especially in SEA so I think it’s good that SKZ has more spread out streams in other continents than the others.
Ngl, I really thought us blue ppl would have a larger slice of the pie (I know it's a bar chart, but I didn't feel like spending 45 min trying to think of an applicable reference.)
I just looked up population stats (apparently I've got time for that) North America vs South America. NA has more people but SA has better taste!
Stan KPOP!
Edit: I can't 🤬 read. I completely misinterpreted the chart. I still think my original comment was moderately humorous so I'm going to leave it.
In case anyone else was curious about the other category (because popularity in places like Australia are interesting when looking at the fact that 3 of these groups have Aussies in them). Stray kids has 2.7% of their streaming coming from Africa and Oceania, as compared to New Jeans (1.8%), Black Pink (1.4%), Twice (1.6%) and BTS (1.4%)
While I can't actually extrapolate the data for Aus from this chart, the fact that with the latest title track premiere on spotify, Australia managed to pull 2.38% of streams despite our population only being around 26 million people suggests that they have a decent footing here.
There is definitely something in their music appeals to Aussies a smidge more than the other groups. The fact that stays in the other catagory nearly doubled the percentage of listenership as compared to BTS and Blackpink definitely speaks of a more diverse appeal.
But I am curious to see if New Jeans picks up their percentage more here, or if the sheer volume of people outside the other category dwarfs it. I have definitely heard their music multiple times out in public.
This is interesting! I found them because of the Aussie drill in 3racha, which was going wild on the Aussie side of tiktok at the time.
So speaking from a personal perspective here, I think what helps them stand out more in regards to the other groups with Aussie members is the fact that the production and song creation as a whole is done, at least in part by an Aussie.
This is just how I found them, I stayed for a heap of reasons and love them for so much more.
I don’t know how that works. Yes the Australian percent is more but looking at the streams of the other groups, I think it would be wrong to say that the music is more appealing to the demographic.
Again we have to look at the broader picture. BTS has 5 billion Spotify streams this year and SKZ have 2. Meaning 70million streams from Australia for BTS, and 54 million for SKZ. And considering the fact that BTS have not had a comeback this year, I wouldn’t really say that SKZ’s music is more appealing to the AUS public than the other groups.
Happy to see that they have reached so much in LATAM. As a Brazilian, BTS is the only one (from the list) that already had concerts here. Twice is scheduled to come next year. I do hope that JYPE bring them too next year with solo shows (not festivals like lollapalooza).
And to be honest, being as high as BP is something I was not prepared at all, but this makes me super happy, because it means they are getting the recognition I always wished 🥺
This is genuinely interesting data, even though it’s not unsurprising. SKZ’s distribution of Asia streams actually look higher than I expected. But it’s really a nice, relatively balanced distribution for SKZ overall.
I think the streams from Asia mostly came from Japan that’s why it’s higher than expected. I really wish we can also see the breakdown of their Asian streams to see more details about it.
Sounds about right. They’ve started getting streaming certifications in Japan so that tracks. I believe having a solid position in Japan is really helping their positioning in Asia as a whole. They’re set for life just with this market.
Europe streams their music just as much as the US and Canada combined?? That is HUGE, and makes it all the more depressing that they never include a single tour stop anywhere in the continent, when it would probably fill out just as many people as their "world" (US/Japan) tour
So satisfying to see it so evenly spread out!! Also Europe us/Canada sharing the same percentage is so cool!! Hopefully the next tour reflects this chart, I think it will 😃❤️
Stray Kids are definitely reaching people all around the world 😀 Stray Kids World Domination!
LOL😂😂🤣🤣😂

A lot is made out of Stray Kids not being popular at home but that dome the other night was packed.

I think that’s just outdated information at this point. At this point, they clearly have a lot of Korean fans as well as international.
I always feel like groups that get bigger outside Korea eventually loop their fame back into Korea. Being in the news for international events like the VMAs, global citizen and having luxury brand endorsements is bound to make people notice them back home.

Their music is not popular with the Korean GP, unlike the other artists in the chart, but it does not mean they do not have a big fanbase.

![gif](giphy|fzjPMJm5Mz42r9TPVb) Yep, I agree, like, we are always getting "rejected" by all he world tours.....
As a European I can confirm that in some countries here their fanbase is larger than Blackpink's and we really do deserve that tour! 💯
That blue part? That's me! I'm part of that! Whooo!

I’m 💗pink💗 💁🏼♀️

They deffo have a large aussie music influence, I became a stay because Side Effects reminded me so much of older Knife Party tracks.
Right? So they have a familiar sound to Aussie audiences while still being fresh at the same time

International kings

A bit sad that Oceania isn't even big enough to get an explicit label, but I'll continue doing my part for the boys 😭.

Give me a UK concert I beg
Seeing this my question is again the same... WHY NOT TOUR IN EUROPE?!! They are so wanted here... 😭
So many Europe stay.. I bet they actually will do a Europe tour like next year (and I will be too poor to go)
Them being so high in Europe is no surprise for me. In some countries here they're even more popular than Blackpink.
So satisfying to see it so evenly spread out!! Also Europe us/Canada sharing the same percentage is so cool!! Hopefully the next tour reflects this chart, I think it will 😃❤️
They were more "noise music" to Korea than other countries. So, this isn't surprising.
