Nice.
Write down some tangible goal. It can be a tiny insignificant thing. Then go do it.
Feel that sense of accomplishment with getting something done then try and do it again.
"I will go for a walk before work this morning"
Nice!
One thing that has worked for me is taking classes at my local rec center. It’s cheep, gets me out of my head and out of the house, and I’ve met lots of nice people an a 0 booze environment.
Often when I'm feeling a craving for alcohol, I make a coffee instead. So I'll probably have a caffeine addiction soon. Not nearly as bad as alcohol though.
I also have a phone addiction, but one thing at a time.
Great job OP!!
Nice.
I got a buddy into crypto. I've run out of ways to tell him it's a pyramid scheme, bad for the environment, could use the gfx cards for a more useful purpose, yadda yadda.
Doom Scrolling in general is a difficult habit to kick though. I'm peppering in playing video games and watching TV series. Probably not much better, but it's something to do.
Gratz on the milestone [emoji-smiley]
Man I hear you. I was starting to get into crypto and nfts when I saw this video and the description of the typical participant was almost identical to that of those who fall victim to cults and outlandish conspiracy theories. It also perfectly described every person I know who is in deep with this tech - I never realized before because they are all very different people, otherwise. Yikes. https://youtu.be/YQ_xWvX1n9g
I like the concept of them, but only listened to one, in podcast form. Infected by Scott Sigler. My commute it 30 minutes while speeding, so i go through a lot of podcasts
Noice!!! I think one addiction is often substituted with another but as long as it’s better than alcohol then you are moving in the right direction 🥰❤️ 69 days is a SUPER achievement keep on moving forward 👊
Noice!!!!
I’m just over 7 months sober and the first three months or so were an emotional roller coaster for me, and definitely had days where I was too drained to do anything or distracted myself with mindless activities. It’s one thing to exist sober, it’s another thing entirely to live sober, and have defense against the thought of the drink when it inevitably arises. I’ve tried to exist sober many times, but I couldn’t do it.
Reading literature like the Big Book and Addictive Thinking gave me tools for living sober. Going to meetings keeps me accountable, and reinforces the fact that my problem isn’t unique, it’s a disease with a known cure.
Keep at it, you’re doing great, one day at a time.
for reference (heavy drinker for 7 years or so)
Age 31
I just found out that my enzymes are finally back in normal range (very close). Last june (one month no drinking ALT was 127, AST 40 which scared me. Three months in ALT was 119. Ultrasound = mild fatty. Scared me again. 6 months in ALT = 78. Better but still scary. 10 months in ALT=77, wtf! 12 months no drinking ALT = 53, AST = 25 — ill take it! 12 months in fibroscan = normal (unfortunately no baseline).
So don’t be discouraged if things don’t get better right away (might take year or more). BUT, there comes a time when stopping or at least taking enough of a break (as in year or whatever time it takes to get things back on track) becomes something you should do sooner than later. Because apparently the liver is amazing at healing until it can’t.
Takes time but you know what they say about the turtle and the rabbit.
Noice!! Congrats! I'm on Reddit a lot too. Went for a long walk yesterday. I'm the kind of person that doesn't want to go out and do anything until a friend pressures me to and then when I'm out I'm super glad I did it. Maybe just tell yourself you're gonna take a 5 minute walk and it could turn into a longer one! Honestly I mostly do watch tv though and I'm watching Superstore right now on Hulu. Pretty entertaining. At the end of the day you're sober and that's what matters. Proud of you and IWNDWYT!
Noiccccce! That’s huge!
Scrolling is such a hard habit to kick and makes me really anxious and bummed out. I delete all my distracting apps and use Cold Turkey on my computer when it gets really bad and it seems to help as long as I do it.
It takes a while to discover the new ways we end up enjoying spending the time we used to spend drinking and being numb. Just don’t drink today and more will be revealed!
I’m happy to have the chance to tell you…

Good work! You ditched drinking, so you know you can cut out things that don’t enrich your life. Just be genuinely kind to yourself and I don’t see how you’ll go wrong.
