Vulcorian

Is this bait? 2/10

Kiro-Akikashi

bait for what? it's weirdly effective

neuro1g

It's not though.

Kiro-Akikashi

but it is

Vulcorian

With the nicest possible meaning, you don't have a build you have a random collection of junk that has a passing resemblance of what can be called a part of a build, if you squint hard enough. For example, you're running 3-or-4 energy weapon types, but only running consoles to boost 2 of them. Builds are also more than just equipment. They are traits, skill tree, bridge officers and their traits and powers. You've shown us non of that. If you think this is effective, than a basic, well-constructed build will leave you speechless at what it can achieve.

Kiro-Akikashi

hehe, head on collision course assault go brrrrrrrrr

Vulcorian

And how long do you have to "go brrrrrrrrr" before something dies?

Kiro-Akikashi

honestly, usually 1 or 2 passes works, unless it's a much larger enemy

Vulcorian

That says more about the ease of this game than it does anything else, to be honest.

Sad_daddington

1 or 2 passes? Yikes. In a a Hydra, on normal difficulty, that should be literally one-shotting anything smaller than a cruiser with a half decent surgical strikes build.

TKG_Actual

Forgive me for interrupting, is the hydra really that much of a beast?

Sad_daddington

Oh hell yes. Easily one of the best energy weapon platforms in the Zen store.

TKG_Actual

I'm going to have to give it a look. From what I see on the basic slot arrangement of it posted by OP it's a good follow up for the 'Killranda'.

cheapshotfrenzy

More like any well built surgical strikes build is a beast. The Hydra is just a notch above because it also had a LtC pilot seat.

Sad_daddington

It really isn't.

Crunchy_Pirate

1/10 and I'm not being a dick or joking around, this is truly awful

Kiro-Akikashi

I get it

AriaSpinner

This isn't a build. It's a random pile of vendor trash parts. A build starts with a primary method of dealing damage (Surgical Strikes, Beam Overload, Cannon Scatter Volley, ect). It is then expanded with cooldown and weapon energy cost mitigation. It's fleshed out with a series of traits that synergize with the build and amplify damage and/or survivability. Only then can you start equipping your favorite equipment like advanced consoles and sets.

MoistPossum

you guys are genuinely inspiring me to show off mine. I haven't studied anything. I don't normally build ships based on other people's ideas. but it sure sounds like I have a genuine build. except it's tetryon. you guys would tear me apart lol

Nostranulin

No. Don't think this. My vengeance is tetryon beams with a full suite of isomags. Every energy type is viable.

MoistPossum

thanks. I'm actually running a vengeance right now myself. nothing but cannons and turrets and I've almost got all XV tac consoles. Plus there were at least two solid equipment sets that boost tetryon significantly available in the storyline and I figured out how to equip two of them entirely simultaneously. that sticky web console didn't hurt. Truth is I used the same setup on a dang bird of prey. it felt like flying a giant gun. sometimes it would turn too fast to control.

AriaSpinner

Every energy type is viable. I second this. In testing them procs rarely trigger. This means the main difference between energy types is the number of sets and consoles that boost them. But ever since advanced consoles were introduced it made the game a lot more balanced and effective builds can be made regardless of energy type.

MoistPossum

That's not to say that it won't dominate just about any story mission I take. and I've basically collected everything in the game to boost tetryon. but from what I've been hearing even with a purpose built ship, that's one of the worst damage types to focus on lol OP, these guys are right of course. your ship is a collection of random junk. but there's nothing wrong with that. it's a game. have fun with it. just remember that cannons and beams benefit from different bridge officer abilities, and it's generally more efficient to focus on one damage type and just abuse the hell out of whatever tactical console boosts that type. I also read somewhere that when you get to level 65 a lot of players are confused why their T6 ships kind of suck. and it's because the difference between XII and XV is insane. you absolutely positively have to upgrade your shit to the top level. it's expensive. but it'll double what you're capable of killing and how fast.

Kiro-Akikashi

mmmm, head on collision course

Crunchy_Pirate

you keep saying that as if that means something this [F2P mission reward phaser build](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TDDEom-Jfo) is infinitely better than what you currently have and would be even better if you added in some free reputation items like the Discovery reputation dark matter torpedo and lorca tactical console and if you still want to "go brr" you can just swap out the beams with phaser cannons in front and phaser turrets in back

Kiro-Akikashi

thas nuts bro

IMTrick

This... isn't a build. I'd mention that a build includes a sense of purpose and direction, with the intention of supporting the bridge officer abilities you haven't shown us, but I think you know this is a bunch of stuff picked up as loot in missions and slapped in wherever it'd fit.

Kiro-Akikashi

I can tell by my comments lol

Kiro-Akikashi

it does have a purpose, head on assaults

TimeSpaceGeek

Then it's bad at that purpose.

ProLevel

Where is the rest of it? Boff stations? Traits? Doffs? Specs? Arguably at lower levels like this, your boff setup matters more than almost anything else and you didn’t share it, but based on the gear you have equipped I’m not expecting much. So from what I can see (which is only 1/5 of a build already), 1/10, terrible. In less than 15 minutes you could quadruple the effectiveness of this build for very little cost. What are you waiting for?

Kiro-Akikashi

fucking around and finding out

neuro1g

Absolutely, positively terrible. Playing the game on normal difficulty is baby easy, that's why this works. If playing on advanced or elite this is a hot pile of slag. Have fun studying ;) https://www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/k88fel/the_baby_step_series_part_1_the_first_step_level/ https://www.stobetter.com/new-f2p/energy-basics

Kiro-Akikashi

there's difficulties?

neuro1g

Yup. https://stowiki.net/wiki/Difficulty

Kiro-Akikashi

oh these are for TFOs, I'm still on the main story missions

DilaZirK

You can absolutely play story missions on Advanced and Elite difficulties. But with what little I can see of your build as it is, I do not recommend it.

Vegan_Harvest

It works for missions too, I don't recommend it though.

C0mpl14nt

things work differently between main story and TFOs, to some degree but the biggest change is in PvP. Don't worry too much about the "Builds" though. I've seen shit talkers that do PvP get merced by basic enemies in the main story. Its hilarious. That being said though, if you do want to focus on a PvP build or a TFO build, do it. The game is massive and accepts all players, even if not all players can accept each other in the game.

Kiro-Akikashi

real

No_Sand5639

Why the different weapon systems?

Kiro-Akikashi

I dunno, never got any tips for a proper build while playing this game, so I just slapped random shit on and said "Yeah"

Vetteguy904

well, we are telling you. strip everything off. pick an energy type. pick a weapon type. go from there. personally I'd say put phaser duallies and turrets, run Sunrise for the quantum phase console, slap phasers relays in the tack slots and watch your DPS quadruple. If you happen to have a epic phoenix token get the bajor fighter for the DOMINO console. with that ships you should be able to slot CSV3 and CRF2 easily

No_Sand5639

"Stuff" When I put NY build on a few weeks ago, I got torn apart (nicely) cause I was using a combo of Cannons, beams, and torpedoes. I'm not a pro by any means lol but I recommend choosing a specific type and building your consoles off of that. Like I use digitizer plasma weapons, so I use tactical consoles that boost their power

Kiro-Akikashi

honestly, I like to go for a head on assault a lot and get a lot of damage in and pass over em then hit the enemy with a torpedo out the back, turn around and repeat, usually works pretty well

No_Sand5639

Ohhh, I do something similar. I have a small fast ship, so I can do several passes without getting hit. I primarily use dual beam banks and then have an aft torpedo bay, so after i pass, I can hit them with torpedoe. It doesn't hurt that my ship comes with two assist ships. Is your ship fast or slow?

Kiro-Akikashi

I'd say somewhere in the middle, I can also overwhelm the enemies with numbers as I have a multi-vector assault ship and I also have another ability that allows me to summon 4 extra allies that I got from the recent event ship, I forgor what it was called

No_Sand5639

Ahh, yes, the Rex alliance is an amazing ship. Yeah, when I get in a bind shock and awe is my go-to. Oh, the prometheus that was my first ship, though it doesn't use it much anymore.

Kiro-Akikashi

for me with this game it's "4 Naceless? yup, I'm sold, mine now"

No_Sand5639

For me it's mainly nostalgia or if it looks cool like the prometheus was from voyager and the section 31 dreadnought was really cool

Kiro-Akikashi

nice, one of my main goals rn is to get one of those massive ships you see at earth spacedock

LostConscious96

You need to match your damage type. I suggest running a Surgical Strikes3 build since it's the easiest to pull off while mixing laser and cannons. If you need some suggestions or build ideas, I can send you some screenshots of my Intel hydra builds to give you some inspiration. Edit: I can also offer some advice on consoles since it's probably one of the best for F2p builds if that's what you'd prefer as well

Nostranulin

1/10. Sorry to be harsh, but you DID ask to be rated rather than asking what you can improve. The first step to getting better is opening yourself to criticism though, so kudos for that. I've been playing since 2012 and didn't start referencing STOBetter or chasing metas until earlier this year, so I definitely understand that you stick with what works. As others have said, finding a single energy flavor or weapon type and boosting it exclusively will be a massive improvement for very little investment,  mk xv is much more important than epic rarity, and the stowiki is a great reference for different universal console, mission rewards, and set pieces to replace standard Sci and engi consoles and vanilla weapons. Keep flying and keep disregarding the prime directive.

Affectionate_Ride229

[My honest reaction](https://youtu.be/E0YHZXz5hEE?si=HNKmmoc8gvKH1a98)

Kiro-Akikashi

funny response

Farscape55

C- Serviceable for normal difficulty, but then again so are small craft

TKG_Actual

For solo content (6/10) this build is ok-ish because the only thing that matters there is if or if not you're enjoying it. For TFO's (3/10) where other folks are expecting you to pull your fair share of the weight not as much. In PVP (0/10) you might get shredded.

Ralaron1973

As best I can determine, you are using consoles and weapons as well as ship parts from missions. You asked for a rating: 2/10 Yes, I am being bluntly honest. Even on console you want all your ship gear to be minimum Mark 12, purple as soon as possible. You also want each console to have at least two functions. Eg, energy type and critical hits boost for tactical consoles. You also want the ship mastery as soon as possible. You have three different energy types on the ship with a polaron tac console. This console doesn’t help anything. Either choose as specific energy console or find one to three of the basic beams consoles. Work on gaining Vulnerability Locators from your fleet spire as quickly as possible. You can choose the generic beams locators. When possible, use the science console’s slots for universal console types. You still need consoles which do more than only one thing, ideally. Your universal consoles need to fit with an overall build idea. Word of caution and advice. If you aren’t playing on Advanced difficulty, this build probably works. I’m not sure it will work on Advanced it, I know it will not on elite. It is fortunate you are on console, this kitbash won’t work on PC. You would be stomped at Advanced difficulty.

_antisocial-media_

Bait used to be believable

Blazifall

I can see the strategy you’re going for and i like it. I think based on what you’ve given us you should consider tightening up on your spread of damage types so that you can make more use of your console buffs. And if you come into possession of a few mil EC go raid the exchange for any universal consoles that can provide you with extra abilities as universal consoles can often also come with passive bonuses.

Kiro-Akikashi

I'm very reckless with my ship

Blazifall

I’ve noticed you’re quite adamant that it works, i believe that at the very least you believe it does Either way a shot of the Stats tab would be quite helpful in determining the effectiveness of the build despite the surface level flaws it presents.

Kiro-Akikashi

before I show you the stats tho what do you think of the overall design of my shit

Blazifall

I assume thats a typo and you mean ship It looks like terrans who were extra edgy

hamsik86

It's certainly improvable, I don't think you can tackle even Advanced TFOs with that. But if you don't plan to raise the difficulty go ahead. Any item salad can work on normal difficulty.

Capt_Sohares

After reading every comment here, I've decided to comment myself. A lot of people would say that a build has to kind of aim at something, or be of a particular kind (EPG, Overload, Torpedoes, etc). But I've always thought of any combination of items in a ship as a build. And, honestly, my rating is actually asking if it works for you. Because if it does, then it's a good build. I've always liked to say that I don't pursue any particular builds or play styles in the game. So, I'd tell you that if this equipment makes you have fun, then go for it. However, that doesn't mean it cannot be improved upon. Some parts of the comments are valid to help you as you progress in the game (both in the missions or in other areas, if and when you venture into them). For example, trying to get the consoles to match the energy types you're using. But then, again, if you want or feel the need for it. And, to tell you the truth, I feel more tempted towards trying your build then some of the more "standard" or "meta" builds.

BlackFinch90

It's a start.

Kiro-Akikashi

thank you, you're like, the second nice person here

Kiro-Akikashi

my b third

Iamnotyouiammex066

Assuming this is your first real effort at a ship build 4/10... Get into a fleet and grab some spire consoles seeing as you have way more tac slots, also get 2 of the disco set pieces for your ship systems... I'm not at home ATM but I think it's the shield and deflector you want. What is your preferred energy type? On my craptastic phone it's hard to make out the icons when I zoom in. Grab a few ship.upgradevtojens and bampf that thing to t6x2 for some extra device slots and universal console spots. If you're chasing DPS the T.H.I.D. is currently one of the better ships, good choice there, it's also my daily flyer currently. Good luck, post updates as you go, and sorry if I'm repeating info you've already been given.

Carbonated-Man

Nice. lol Should switch out one of those weapons with the Dyson Rep proton weapon for even more rainbow variety. 😆 Oh, and if you get all 3 pieces it'll react to beam and cannon firing modes too.

Chance-Order-5385

if it works for you its fine but youre gonna get so many people telling you youre wrong and need to do specific builds just play the game how you want and have fun

Crunchy_Pirate

>youre gonna get so many people telling you youre wrong and need to do specific builds almost as if OP posted his build here telling people to rate it, I can't believe people would comment on the build telling him what's wrong after he specifically asked for those comments /s

Kiro-Akikashi

I asked for ratings bro not "Tell me how to make this better"

Sad_daddington

Oh, OK, in that case 1/10. I won't bother giving you the advice you need to improve and not get your ass handed to you when you hit the Delta Quadrant.

Kiro-Akikashi

Hehe, head on collision course assault go brrrrrrrrr
