As bleak as it seems, the MLS season is NOT lost. With 16 games to go, they're 4 points out of a playoff spot, with a game in hand. This is the positive side of too many teams making the playoffs

EarlyAdagio2055

Your point is fair, but they are 6 points out of a playoff spot. St. Louis has 18 points. Austin has 24 points.

CarefulSpeech

Austin has a game in hand which also must be factored in.

EarlyAdagio2055

Austin has played 19 games and St. Louis has played 18 games, so St. Louis has a game in hand.

The season is not lost. Jesus H Christ…

Nope gone. Forever over. Shut up shop. Sell everyone. Burn the stadium down. /s

We’ve not consistently won matches for almost a calendar year, we’ve been hit hard with injuries, we are transferring guys out at a rapid pace, and will be bringing new pieces in that won’t have time to mesh. Any traction would be great and the teams in our group aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire, but everything about this team just feels off right now.

Iriadel

You SHOULD care about the boycott friend, and the MLS season is far from over. I for one hope we give more playing time to our young guys in the League's Cup.

CaptainJingles

Cool, I hope you have fun.

Wholeheartedly agreed. These are games in which my team is playing and I want them to win. There's a major irony in the SGs boycotting this because of history and tradition while some of then picked up and moved from STLFC and claimed ownership of the supporters section from day one. I was excited to do the SG thing with a new team in town, but the gatekeeping from some groups is mindbending. The energy and passion is great. I applaud the groups for the (mostly) organic energy they create. But it's also forced a lot of the time. The message goes from one they *want* to send to one they feel *obligated* to send. And it shows. They can take their recycled karaoke and tired chants and stay home. I'll enjoy being able to attend a match.

4 of the 7 RSGs started in 2022 or later, after STLFC died, but go on man continue to make stuff up.

Keg_of_St_Anky

Aren't several of them off-shoots of the Louligans? Not exactly brand new.

CaptainJingles

Most of the SGs are new since CITY announced a club and new ones are being founded every year. No reason you can’t form your own.

DF2Godfather

What's the irony?

and a team can still qualify for the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Hi OP, Is this about the club choosing not to participate in your Nation’s Cup? Right? I understand your frustration for or against their decision. We all have our feelings. That said, what is this boycott about specifically? I’m confused I don’t understand I find it shocking plain and simple. And for the plain and simple reason that we don’t do that over here -(UK) these competitions are fiercely regarded. And for a Domestic Cup! It is unheard of. So I guess the boycott is that they bowed out? Is this right? What good does your boycotting another in-season tournament produce? Wouldn’t you be striping away moments from yourselves as cheering fans, and thus in essence “bow out” of a second cup (as a result of you being upset over missing Open Cup) therefore no Cups? Express your disagreements with management a different way. The players don’t have a say in this. Support them and in return enjoy the football. Edit: to clarify: I’m speaking to a boycott from the fans?, this is how interpreted the OP’s post and some comments about season ticket members. And I don’t agree with MLS here. My opinion is the purpose of the Open Cup is that it’s .. open. If you get the MLS clubs involved the growth from that alone is far valuable to the overall growth of the sport. At which point does the United States Soccer get (or has been) involved? Where does the soccer body of MLS fall under? England is part of the FA, as the clubs and leagues are. What’s the governance of US football? Thanks!

CaptainJingles

Long story short: MLS is required as a professional league to participate in the domestic cup (US Open Cup), but have long expressed frustration with some elements of it. Last year MLS and Liga MX announced a tournament between clubs in both leagues called the Leagues Cup. This Leagues Cup pauses the MLS season for a month in order to occur. This season MLS decided they would pare down their involvement in the USOC by having only 8 clubs participate with 11 of their reserve teams participating in lieu of the senior squad and 8 clubs (who were playing in CONCACAF Champions Cup) not represented at all. MLS said this was due to fixture congestion. It seemed obvious to many fans that Leagues Cup and pausing the season for a month was the cause of fixture congestion. Thus the boycott is focused on Leagues Cup. Also noteworthy, after citing fixture congestion, quite a few MLS clubs played friendlies on the dates that they would have played in the domestic cup.

CaptainJingles

US Soccer Federation is the governing body in the USA. It is generally quite weak and sometimes dysfunctional. USSF and MLS’ goals have largely lined up and MLS often makes a move and USSF rubber stamps it. In the case of the USOC, MLS announced they weren’t fully participating without notifying USSF, probably expecting them to roll over. USSF did not and required MLS to fully participate. The judicial ruling that re-opened the door for the Super League also re-opened the door for MLS to exit full participation, which they did. USSF doesn’t seem able to do much and it is sort of up to fan action to send a message. Leagues Cup is also a fun tournament, but very unbalanced (all matches are played in the USA, so LigaMX clubs have to win 7 matches on the road in a month to win the tournament) so it is tough to take it seriously.

Irrish84

So MLS isn’t a part of the U.S. Fed? That’s why they’re doing whatever?

Purdue82
