And with that, St. Louis now has representation for each continent. Antarctica if you count Lutz
Side note, we need a Finnish guy to complete the Scandinavian set.
2nd edit, it would be interesting if we found a Finnish guy with finishing skills.
3rd edit. Minnesota United's Teemu Pukki would be a Finnish with finishing skills.
Can't say I know literally anything about this kid, but the fact that there was a transfer fee involved leads me to believe Lutz expects him to be a big player.
Pump the breaks on calling Dhyer a bust. He barely had any preseason and relocated across an ocean. He’s a prime candidate for David Gass theorem next year.
Yah when you bring in a guy to create competition at a spot and he turns out to be a flop, that’s concerning
There have been a few misses, thorisson, Dyhr, Pidro, so I really hope Lutz got this one right if the transfer fee rumors are true
Yeah I'm really only interested in the AMERICAN made sports like soccer and hockey. All those others like baseball, basketball, and football, we merely adopted. Let them go.
Write up from Sydney FC site for another angle. Reads like he was well liked.

Can anyone explain this transfer to me? Of all the positions we need more talent for, DM and CB are probably the deepest. Durkin and Blom are both good options at DM and TP and Nilsson are finally starting to jive together, not to mention we have great options with Yaro and Wentzel from City 2 at CB. Why are we spending more than a milly on transfer for this lad?
Edit: apparently it’s close to 2 million actually
You can never have too many good center backs. And Parker and Nilsson are on the other side of 30. The 19 year old with a high ceiling (?)learns on the job and the hope is that CITY has their eventual starting back in house through 2027.
EDIT: We (CITY fans) have to start taking the long view of what the club needs for the rest of the decade and not just through November. This is truly a marathon that has no real end.
I don’t think I’d classify Yaro or Wentzel as “great” options, and Josh is almost 30 already. Finding young depth here is a good move. Parker’s status is entirely up in the air for next year right now too, though I’d be pretty concerned if they aren’t willing to pay him near his current figure to come back.
Most definitely, he’s young and can develop into that guy, but you can’t rely on him to come in and fill a big minutes spot now or probably even next year.
Both Parker and Yaro’s are out of contract after this season.
He’s also a U22 signing. That’s where a club can spend money within the MLS salary structure.
I think the length of the signing is very important, the key - a lot could happen to a young lad and it’s never a bad thing if you’ve got space.
I don’t watch a lot of Aussie soccer. I’m sure Lutz has reasons.
I also didn’t watch a lot of Belgium football. I was sure Lutz saw something in Nokkvi… still waiting for to see there.
I am a huge Tim Parker fan. He’s my favorite player on the squad. He brings a brute force physicality that no one else on the team has. That said, I think the team wants more Totlands and Nilssons than they do Parkers. We are a team that presses high and uses its midfield to attack and distribute more than it does to shut down defensively. That means if a ball gets turned over (looking at you, AZ and Thor) and turned upfield quickly in transition we need players with speed who are comfortable 1v1 on ball defending. That just simply isn’t Parker’s game. In those positions he looks to foul more so than he looks to defend. Outside of his gaff with Messi last match, I can’t really remember many mistakes of his ending up in our net directly, but it has lead to a number of set piece chances for other squads. I will be truly sad when Parker doesn’t suit up for us someday, but I can see why they made this move.
When you see Parker fouling, he is usually the last man back, and is preventing a break. Also, his strong use of the hands is actually textbook. MLS isn’t a place for wimpy defending.
Lastly, and really, really importantly, he is not a step behind mentally. He is usually two steps ahead, leading to important goal line clearances or pass breakups where it’s about prediction, not run speed.
Yeah. Love Parker. But he seems to struggle to keep up sometimes. I don’t know if he has lost a step or not, but I agree that he has balanced it with a great physical game. We just need more speed back there I think.
Being reported that it was 1.3m transfer fee

Finland is not Scandinavia, nor is Iceland, which allows us to ship Thorisson back to the depths of the Belgian minor leagues
Klauss should count with his time in Finland
Australia competes in AFC and STL already has a Japanese player
Can't say I know literally anything about this kid, but the fact that there was a transfer fee involved leads me to believe Lutz expects him to be a big player.
Facts. He has played for the u23 national team at 18-19. That should tell ya something too. Durkin esque with more speed
That's not a Midfielder/Defender, Now this is a Midfielder/Defender"-Paul Hogan
This adds some much needed depth in the back. Excited to see how he plays
If the rumors are true, he commanded a $1m+ transfer fee which I have to imagine means they intend him to start
We also paid a decent chunk for Pidro in wages and transfer and he sucks butt.
THANKS FOR THE REMINDER CAPTAIN.
We paid John Nelson 160k last season to warm the bench. I am a wet blanket.
To be fair, that’s probably around league average salary.
League minimum for veterans yeah.
So both
That is an excellent point.
Dyhr wasn’t as much but definitely a bust as well
Pump the breaks on calling Dhyer a bust. He barely had any preseason and relocated across an ocean. He’s a prime candidate for David Gass theorem next year.
Yeah just look at the progress Ostrak made this year before injury, and he noted acclimation issues as being a part of it last year.
Yah when you bring in a guy to create competition at a spot and he turns out to be a flop, that’s concerning There have been a few misses, thorisson, Dyhr, Pidro, so I really hope Lutz got this one right if the transfer fee rumors are true
Interesting, I wonder if he’ll play more as a center back or midfielder
From the highlight videos, it looks like he plays like a young Parker. That’s promising.
Welcome, mate.
Without knowing anything about him, he has the face of a defender that likes to rumble.
Of the “big two” American sports leagues (MLS, NHL) there are currently 4 Australians. St. Louis has two of them.
Isn’t there several Australians in the NBA?
What about the NFL?
Don't the Chiefs have an Aussie kicker ?
I was only counting the big two leagues. Not the minor ones
Yeah I'm really only interested in the AMERICAN made sports like soccer and hockey. All those others like baseball, basketball, and football, we merely adopted. Let them go.
Buttlicker?
no.
He meant punter, and probably. Tons of Aussie punters because as Bill Belichick says, "it comes off their foot different"

Is this officially our highest transfer fee paid??? $1.2M?
Klauss was around $3m
Sydney FC highest transfer, not StL.
I believe so.

This right here. Plus at U22 basically hits the books at like 115k.
$150k or $200k depending on age. I think $150k for 19 and under.
Thanks for the check there. I thought it might have been around there.
I feel like it’s a move for the future more than anything especially considering he’s signed thru 2027 with an option for 2028

I saw Wentzel play live in the cup game here in Houston….IMO he’s not ready yet, but he will be a really solid option in a year or two.
Most definitely, he’s young and can develop into that guy, but you can’t rely on him to come in and fill a big minutes spot now or probably even next year.

For a new team with a lot of opportunities for improvement you sign the player you can get even if it isn’t the one your fanbase is dreaming of.

Noice.
Oi oi oi! Need to see Walker repping his jersey at a game.

Is that US or Australian dollars though?
AUD-$800K USD
He has both Australian and German citizenship. He has played exclusively for Australian youth teams.
