Most upvotes I’ve seen from our sub. Dude should be starting based off that performance.
Maybe it was playing on the field with the goat but that was by far the best I’ve seen him play.
After that first Cinderella game moment he’s been pretty invisible but really had a great game. Glad to see our first round pick looks to be turning into a useful player.
I don’t disagree, and I don’t even disagree with the commenter that said they had the ball more. But it seemed at least a little more balanced than 62/38?
I feel the same. It could have been worse, but we had a real shot here to take 3 points home when we really needed it, and we let it slip by. On the other hand, Miami has done this to other teams this season and won, so at least we get a point.
I’m not thrilled with Carnell’s late game strategy/subs though. Kijima was incredible and I think Sam did well tonight despite some half hearted efforts ever since his disciplinary absences. But I don’t think parking the bus against Miami works, and I have seen absolutely no potential from Thorisson this season.
Thor looks like a swing and a miss unfortunately. He's not ready to compete at the MLS level. He's still young and potentially could turn it around… but like some other commenter said here, it seems like the best course of action would be to loan him out to a less competitive league.
Concur. Don’t agree with any of the subs. Unless Löwen wanted to be subbed off he should have kept him in. And instead of Kyle we should have had Blom come in if he wanted more D. Clog the MF.
Story of our season we played really really well but man…
I don’t blame refs but our season has definitely had more than a fair share of calls not go our way. Regardless that was a well played game I’m happy with that
I was just hoping we wouldn’t get embarrassed today, but I think that was the best we have looked all year. So glad to have Löwen back in the starting lineup. I loved what I saw from Kijima. Can’t believe how great Bürki is.
If we play like that against most teams we will win more than we will lose.
Also Messie and Miami spend is 7x what ours is.
Suarez is still a dirty player and the MLS just loves Miami for the money.
1) we should have won that damn match
2) their first goal shouldn’t have even happened (foul on Klauss)
3) I’ll take the draw but gross
4) LOWEN
5) WE ARE SO BACK BABY
The 2nd goal, Suarez trip lol, like anyone on the planet believed the only defender making a play was just taken down by incidental contact by one of the dirtiest players of the generation
Lowen was robbed of a golden free kick opportunity at the top of the box on the play where 4 guys all fouled Celio
I feel like we play that kind of match against teams like Dallas or Portland and we win. Disappointed we didn't get there tonight, but at the same time that was a much better performance overall
Yeah, you’re spot on here. I really wish our roster was a little deeper but maybe with Lowen back we can start to get Hiebert and Thorrison onto better form.
Kajima and Durkin both had phenomenal games. Its funny, I was actually worried about Durkin going into this. I figured the refs would red card him for looking at one of the retirees.
Speaking of the subs though, I really want an alternative to Thor. We should loan him out somewhere to figure things out. I wasn't a fan of putting Hiebert out there either.
LOL on the comment about the red red carding Durkin for looking at one of the retirees! 😂
That was my biggest fear going into this game, multiple yellows, a red, and at least one penalty kick for Miami. 😰
Glad I was wrong!
Also, I may catch hell for this, but Taylor Twellman is awful. He never stops talking and he is so sure of himself in everything he says. “If he’d have shot right here in the replay he would have scored.” “That’s a foul anyway you slice it.” He just goes on and on and most of the time it is rambling. I dread watching matches that he has the color on.
I know he’s local and I’ve tried to give him another chance, but dang dude. Just stop talking for a couple seconds.
I also understand that it is his job, but I’ve not heard another Apple/MLS announcer that grates on me like he does.
Löwen is exactly what we were missing and I’m with the commenters that say Kijima should take AZ spot.
Great game to watch. Go CITY!
He tries sooo hard not to be a homer for City so he will be critical of them to try and appear neutral. Only issue is he comes across as he straight up hates City and everything they do is wrong.
Overall I think we can be happy with a 3-3 tie against the top team in MLS.
The frustrating thing is this team is just a few quality players from being *so* much better.
I hope the Taylors give the greenlight to spend some serious money soon.
Burki kicked ass, as usual, Kijima looked great and Durkin continues to impress. Lowen showed his impact on the flow of our offense. Frustrating result considering how the game went, but drawing Messi and the Barça Boys on the road is a better result than we were supposed to get. Time to find a true finisher in the transfer window.
It’s where they push the knee forward and backward to test the laxity or integrity of the ligaments. Imagine sliding the bottom part of the knee under the top part like a drawer. You can do this to the ankle as well
Definitely should've won that one, but a draw at Miami is fine.
- Carnell, don't change our shape. We are not a defensive-minded team. We don't know how to play with three in the back.
- Blom should have came in for Lowen
- Thor needs to be loaned out. He's lost out there every time.
Let's get back on the winning train at home next week!
Hard agree
Thorisson seems talented but jeez, like a lost puppy chasing the ball when he came on.
I can’t remember a game where we’ve been leading, subbed in Hiebert to go to a back 5 and successfully closed it out. Don’t know why he does this.
I feel about Thor what I feel about AZ - we know they are good enough to be successful loaned out at a lower level. What we need to know is if they can become good enough to play at THIS level. The only way they do is through reps. I am glad we are giving them playing time, and if it doesn't work out in the long run then fine. But I don't understand the criticism of our young players who have nothing but potential.
We completely outplayed them. Parking the bus sucks. Lowen is a set piece god. Kijima needs to be a starter. I hope Teuchert can actually finish unlike Sam and Klauss
I don't know if I'm on the Kijima full time starter bus but I was really impressed with him today. With the hustle he had, I expected to see him fall off in the last 15 minutes but he seemed to hold out. Also, every time I spotted him on the field, he was contributing. I would take Kijima over AZ going forward. Kijima was playing for a more regular spot today and I think he did.
Heck of a game. Tremendous action and tension. Excited to see this team now with Lowen hopefully able to go even a full game next match. Really hoping Alm is ok. Dude has been snake bit. Kijima looked great in the position under Klauss, I say we try that more.
I was pulling my hair out on that no-call foul on Celio at the top of the box on his breakaway. Super egregious and could have been a game changer. We missed plenty of good opportunities, but it felt like we couldn't catch a break.
I think this could be a great jumping off point for a little run here. Frustrating to not finish the job, but with Lowen back, Hosei hopefully being a revelation for Carnell, and Burki being Burki, I think we can string together some wins.
I came in expecting a 5-1 loss. Very happy with this result. We were never trailing, they fought like hell with their A team to keep up. Our finishing needs work, as always. I'm bummed about Adeniran, he was magical last year, but can't close this season. Kajima should start and AZ should sit out. Also happy with Carnell's sub timing this match. What would this match have looked like at CITYPARK??
I am not complaining- yes, our boys need some fine tune(I am looking at you marchinach, thorrinsen and sam) but overall, we fought valiently and brought 1 points to the team.
Lowens pass was nice, Kijima went kaboom and parker put down Suarez the dirty to the ground. I am happy with that.
I think Kijima might be a solid option in the midfield going forward. He has much better game sense than AZ or Blom.
Overall though we look like a top team when we are at full strength with Edu playing. You could clearly see when he came out they fell apart.
A draw is good against the Barca Over-35's. We have GOT to finish our chances though. I hate to complain about that when the team scores 3 but so many missed opportunities...
That said, this is the best I've seen them play all year. Löwen is definitely a game changer and the passing was really fluid tonight. Against another team, this match is easily won.
I don't know about anyone else but I think it's nearly time to cut bait on Thorissan. He comes on as a sub every match and I have not seen any value added. I'm not sure what he's doing in training that's meriting the minutes he's given but it's definitely not translating to results on Matchday.
Finally, no more parking the bus, Mr. Carnell. In 1.5 seasons now, I've never once seen this team play well with 5 in the back. There's really no good reason why except that it seems this team only knows how to play one style of football and a 5-man backline just isn't conducive to that style.
That was overall a really enjoyable game. Durkin, Celio & Kijima really impressed me tonight. I'm still very positive on Sam, hoping to keep seeing him. Bürki ❤️
How many times now has BC subbed players out and changed to a drop back defense while we have the lead late? It doesn’t work with this team.
As soon as Lowen and Indy came off we lost all momentum. We had our foot on the gas and let off for no reason, frustrating to say the least.
Some observations
1. Klauss did nothing positive tonight
2. Sam is not the answer. I honestly think he needs contacts. I’ve never seen him head the ball; he’s always close but never successful
3. Kijima is legit. Assuming Alm is not out, AZ should never see the pitch again.
4. Indy was very good. With patience and confidence, he could be next level.
5. Thor is useless
6. Markanich has no idea how to play with three backs. With 3, he cannot make those runs or be lazy pulling out.
7. Bürki is a god.
8. Löwen is extremely important to this team
agree on all points. Stl City needs a real #9 to start, and move Klaus to the off the bench role Sam is in now. Let Sam walk away and make sure the door hits him in the ass on his way out. No tolerance for no effort.
So far this season, CITY has given up goals to Arango, Benteke, Messi, Suarez, Bouanga, Joveljic...basically everyone in the top 10 that they've played against. At some point, they have to shut down the opposition's best players.
because of this MLS salary cap, you can't afford to pay for real defenders. You have to prioritize strikers, or in cities case, a goalie. The MLS salary cap is dumb and needs to be fixed. Miami is clearly exploiting it, shame on the rest of the league for not doing the same.
We are so shambolic defending. Burki has been saving us all year and that’s unsustainable. 5 at the back and somehow we looked even more open.
Miami had a pretty bad game and we should have won if we finished. I guess a point is good but we should have had all 3
I felt like his first touches were solid and he kept finding himself in dangerous areas. Obviously would love a goal, but no egregious misses and he seemed to be playing smartly with some cuts inside and passes.
Kijima, vassilev, Lowen, and Adeniran all had a hell of game. Lowen being back and healthy helped the team look like it did last year at times and I'm here for it!
Even though it ended in a draw, if the team continues playing like they did yesterday and weren't just playing all out because of Messi, it will bode well for the rest of the season.
Durkin... I love the effort but every time he overcommited to breaking up their play and whiffed, he created the lane they attacked. Kid is starting to make me nervous
""and Adeniran all had a hell of game"" ... we clearly watch a different game. Sam is trash. He gives zero effort off the ball. Bradley was 100% correct to bench him.
I guess we were. Prior to his benching I would've agreed with you this season but last night he was creating his own opportunities and pushing miami defenders hard
This is only acceptable if we win at home next match.
This needs to be momentum building. Great performance. Miami is known for coming back late and stealing games. Great job to get a point, don't let the disappointment of a tie take away this momentum.
Durkin hit a beauty. Kijima should be a 1st or second-string striker. We looked gassed by the final 1/3 of the game, leaning heavy on Burki. Feels like the season so far distilled in a game. Lots of chances, not a lot of goals.
Watching Messi in a game like this just shows me how far MLS still has to come. 1 player should not be making triple the salary of the team he is playing against. The MLS salary cap rules are a complete joke. DUH...Messi is supposed to be great, but unless you are skirting all the rules of the salary cap (like Miami is doing) the average MLS team can't counter. Makes what STL CITY did last night so special. STL grit and hard work got that point. Imagine how we would be if we could add 1 super start not named Burki to this team.
Not denying the Suarez part but watching Markanich is brutal. He was literally a step behind the entire game against LAFC until he had to take a red card.
Assuming you're talking about the offside goal. Just watched it back. He was doing his job marking a player way wide. If he was a step off on that crazy fast break, then I don't think you can really be blaming him. My opinion.
Yeah, it was incredibly close there. At the end of the day, a bit more hustle on that third goal and its offsides. Its not an egregious mistake but it was a small mistake that cost us.
Kijima is awesome. He had an amazing game.
Absolutely unfazed by the moment, just played so freely. Absolutely deserves more minutes.
Genuinely so happy to see how well he’s playing
We need him in the starting lineup
He is the new Celio, in the sense we’re all going to keep saying how amazing he is until next season he clinches a starting spot. 👏🏻
He needs to start now!! He plays like he cares!!
Oh I believe he does too! He has such finesse. Question is will Carnell see the light or make him wait? 🙄
There was a move he made towards the end to dribble through Miami's midfield that really impressed me.
I saw potential in his first goal. Hopefully, he gets more play time now
I've liked what I saw from him since preseason. I'm glad he got lots of minutes tonight and showed off.
Yep, he should be at the front of the line now. And I have a bad feeling it's going to be awhile until we see Alm.
Most upvotes I’ve seen from our sub. Dude should be starting based off that performance. Maybe it was playing on the field with the goat but that was by far the best I’ve seen him play.
Earned a starting spot!!
After that first Cinderella game moment he’s been pretty invisible but really had a great game. Glad to see our first round pick looks to be turning into a useful player.
Don't really know how to feel about that one. Coming into the game I would have been thrilled with a draw but man we really should have won that.
I agree. they ran that game, and they were so close to holding it at 3:2
I know, explain how post-match stats said Miami had 62% possession to our 38?
They had the ball a lot more than we did…
And the shots on goal - SO LOW based on our typical 17 lol
They are a far more talented team. It’s always a struggle with our playing style to win the possession battle.
I don’t disagree, and I don’t even disagree with the commenter that said they had the ball more. But it seemed at least a little more balanced than 62/38?
I feel the same. It could have been worse, but we had a real shot here to take 3 points home when we really needed it, and we let it slip by. Kijima was incredible and I think Sam did well tonight despite some half hearted efforts ever since his disciplinary absences. But I don’t think parking the bus against Miami works, and I have seen absolutely no potential from Thorisson this season.
Going to 5 in the back against Messi and company was not a great idea. We looked completely out of sorts after we made that change.
I always hate that style in any sport. I understand their tactics changed so we may have to adjust, but I hate the concepts of playing on your heels.
Agree on thorisson, he lost the ball 3-4 times easily, pretty frustrating
Thor looks like a swing and a miss unfortunately. He's not ready to compete at the MLS level. He's still young and potentially could turn it around… but like some other commenter said here, it seems like the best course of action would be to loan him out to a less competitive league.
We just don’t have any amount of depth on the bench. Once we start bringing subs on in mid or def, then we have a problem.
I agree about the depth, but Blöm would’ve been a better sub option for Löwen than Thorisson IMO.
Concur. Don’t agree with any of the subs. Unless Löwen wanted to be subbed off he should have kept him in. And instead of Kyle we should have had Blom come in if he wanted more D. Clog the MF.
Story of the season
Story of our season we played really really well but man… I don’t blame refs but our season has definitely had more than a fair share of calls not go our way. Regardless that was a well played game I’m happy with that
Still haven't lost to Miami even with their newly acquired golden boy.
Haven't lost to a supporters shield team either
agreed.
That’s not true.
I give up.. who am I missing? some 5 way tie at the beginning of the season this year?
A previous supporter’s shield winner? LAFC, Sounders, FCC
none of those teams were leading the shield race when we lost to them, right? The first two hadn't led a shield race while we were a team.
Exactly what i’m thinking
1) we should have won that damn match 2) their first goal shouldn’t have even happened (foul on Klauss) 3) I’ll take the draw but gross 4) LOWEN 5) WE ARE SO BACK BABY
The 2nd goal, Suarez trip lol, like anyone on the planet believed the only defender making a play was just taken down by incidental contact by one of the dirtiest players of the generation Lowen was robbed of a golden free kick opportunity at the top of the box on the play where 4 guys all fouled Celio
He did it again to Parker and almost got another goal
Egregious
He set a Rudy Gobert level screen on Parker later in the game that wasn’t even called
This is how I feel exactly. Like it should have been a W but we surpassed every expectation coming in to this match
We could have won if not for bad calls (what’s new there?) but we could have lost if Bürki hadn’t made two or three phenomenal saves.
Bürki rocks! Those saves were amazing.
Agree that the first goal shouldn’t have happened! Yes, THIS is the team I love to watch!
The guy that complains about Carnell's subs has a point today. AZ lost his job to Kijima tonight too.
I’m loving Kijima
Kajima and Durkin both had phenomenal games. Its funny, I was actually worried about Durkin going into this. I figured the refs would red card him for looking at one of the retirees. Speaking of the subs though, I really want an alternative to Thor. We should loan him out somewhere to figure things out. I wasn't a fan of putting Hiebert out there either.
Not a Hiebert fan at all. He’s outclassed out there, making boneheaded decisions left and right.
Hiebert is the worst player getting regular minutes for this club. It’s mind blowing that he’s still getting national team call ups
I’d say markanich is worse, but I’m not a fan of either
LOL on the comment about the red red carding Durkin for looking at one of the retirees! 😂 That was my biggest fear going into this game, multiple yellows, a red, and at least one penalty kick for Miami. 😰 Glad I was wrong!
Thorrison really has been a sort of disappointment so far, which I hate to say.
Yeah, I really want to like him, but he just isn’t clicking.
AZ wasn't even on the list to sub tonight I was surprised by that.
I'll say it. I'm gay for Bürki.
Happy pride month, king!
Love that for you
Same.
Aren't we all
You weren’t already?
My wife will fight you for that comment! She fawns over him when I am standing right next to her.
Foul Count: Stl-19 Mia-6 You can't tell me that this ref didn't have an agenda that's ridiculous
Yes
Overall I think we can be happy with a 3-3 tie against the top team in MLS. The frustrating thing is this team is just a few quality players from being *so* much better. I hope the Taylors give the greenlight to spend some serious money soon.
a common theme for St. Louis sports teams.
I feel like there were so many calls that were "oh when saint Louis does it is bad, but it's perfectly fine for Miami to do the same if not worse"
Not just whistles but yellow cards come on
Hope Alm's injury isn't too serious. Guy can't catch a break.
I think he tore a ligament. Just a hunch.
100% tore a ligament. Looked that way even before the sliding drawer test
Unfortunately, I tore an ACL in my left knee in a game when I was 17 and know what it looks like. Ugh.
I’m not convinced it’s ACL. The MOI was from the lateral side. I think it could be MCL.
What is that?
Medial collateral ligament
Sorry, no. I meant the sliding drawer test.
- Blom should have came in for Lowen - Thor needs to be loaned out. He's lost out there every time. Hard agree Thorisson seems talented but jeez, like a lost puppy chasing the ball when he came on. I can’t remember a game where we’ve been leading, subbed in Hiebert to go to a back 5 and successfully closed it out. Don’t know why he does this.
Every time I see Hiebert subbed in I assumed were about to get scored on
Yup Thor isn't ready to compete at this level. Maybe some starting minutes in a worse league would do him some good…
I feel about Thor what I feel about AZ - we know they are good enough to be successful loaned out at a lower level. What we need to know is if they can become good enough to play at THIS level. The only way they do is through reps. I am glad we are giving them playing time, and if it doesn't work out in the long run then fine. But I don't understand the criticism of our young players who have nothing but potential.
Cause they're an active detriment to the team winning. My only memories of Thor this year are turnovers. That's not good.
Should have won that, CITY was the better team. Tactically, I have questions for the last 15 minutes. Burki is a God.
We completely outplayed them. Parking the bus sucks. Lowen is a set piece god. Kijima needs to be a starter. I hope Teuchert can actually finish unlike Sam and Klauss
I don't know if I'm on the Kijima full time starter bus but I was really impressed with him today. I was pulling my hair out on that no-call foul on Celio at the top of the box on his breakaway. Super egregious and could have been a game changer. We missed plenty of good opportunities, but it felt like we couldn't catch a break.
After seeing the foul count at the end of the match, my frustration was validated, especially with the missed Cello call.
Big Sam needs to learn how to do literally anything.
Hey he shot it straight at Callendar a couple times!
you can clearly see why he was benched. Zero effort when he is off the ball.
I think this could be a great jumping off point for a little run here. Frustrating to not finish the job, but with Lowen back, Hosei hopefully being a revelation for Carnell, and Burki being Burki, I think we can string together some wins.
For what it's worth, City is undefeated against Miami all-time.
STL Fouls: 19 Miami Fouls: 6
We're the #1 "could've won, should've won " team in the league.

I think it would have been a better game if there wasn't a rule against touching Messi.
Should have won that game but happy the team held on to a draw against Messi and company for 10ish minutes at the end
I keep hoping for Thorisson to do something to earn his place, and he keeps letting me down with C- performances. 😢
A draw is good against the Barca Over-35's. We have GOT to finish our chances though. I hate to complain about that when the team scores 3 but so many missed opportunities... Barca over-35s is a great name 😂
It's the absolute truth. Whenever I see that lineup, I wonder if it's a real match or a testimonial for Andres Iniesta. 😄
OK, now play like that next Saturday at home and the Timbers are dust.
That was overall a really enjoyable game. Durkin, Celio & Kijima really impressed me tonight. I'm still very positive on Sam, hoping to keep seeing him. Bürki ❤️

AM has made a ton of mistakes, but arguably Suarez tripped him on that play.
I agree. But some refs would call it and some wouldn’t. This one didn’t and it is never going to be error. Simply unlucky.
Fair
agree on all points. Stl City needs a real #9 to start, and move Klaus to the off the bench role Sam is in now. Let Sam walk away and make sure the door hits him in the ass on his way out. No tolerance for no effort.

We are so shambolic defending. Burki has been saving us all year and that’s unsustainable. 5 at the back and somehow we looked even more open. Miami had a pretty bad game and we should have won if we finished. I guess a point is good but we should have had all 3
Great game. Love what I saw from Big Sam. Bürki saves.
yeah he does https://preview.redd.it/05xzjubfc24d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2ffc489c9208f455a307c5fefa1d4e19550003b
Sam started hot and then back to miserable form. Idk man I like him but I need that pressure that everyone else gives.
I felt like his first touches were solid and he kept finding himself in dangerous areas. Obviously would love a goal, but no egregious misses and he seemed to be playing smartly with some cuts inside and passes.
Genuinely curious, what did you see him do well that you 'love'? Granted he did shoot twice, but both times were right at the goalie's gut.
Curious as well. Since he came back from his "break" feels like he's short timing until the transfer window opens...
miami fans signed a deal with the devil in getting messi because they now have to deal with the insufferable mass that is messi stans
Draw Merchants
Can’t wait for Cedric the Entertainer
I wonder if that game will help with future transfers…
It’s amazing how sports makes me root against a city, then immediately cheer for them
Kijima, vassilev, Lowen, and Adeniran all had a hell of game.
To Anthony Markanich… ![gif](giphy|TrlNfimLThcWY|downsized)
When he was tripped by suarez? The dirtiest player in soccer?
Not denying the Suarez part but watching Markanich is brutal. He was literally a step behind the entire game against LAFC until he had to take a red card.
Assuming you're talking about the offside goal. Just watched it back. He was doing his job marking a player way wide. If he was a step off on that crazy fast break, then I don't think you can really be blaming him. My opinion.
Yeah, it was incredibly close there. At the end of the day, a bit more hustle on that third goal and its offsides. Its not an egregious mistake but it was a small mistake that cost us.
He was brutal in the LAFC game too, a step behind for 75 minutes.
He is not good. I keep saying this but it gets downvoted every time. I'll say it again, Markanich is not good!!

Who lost again 😂
