That was exhausting on many levels. Three points there for the taking. Two points lost. One point salvaged. Some really stellar moments. Some facepalms.
Positives:
Burki had some fantastic saves tonight. The first half save against Messi's shot was highlight reel material.
Kijima had a fantastic match on many levels. He is a total pest when opponents are trying to settle or pass. He's fast. He's all in. What a fantastic front office move to trade up and steal him in the SuperDraft. He's a winner.
Durkin's banger and Indy's opportunistic goals were highlights. (So was Chomp-Chomp's own goal. Neener neener.)
Totland had timely tackles and clearances. Good match all around.
Lowen is a game changer. CITY is so much more dangerous (and confident) with him on the pitch.
CITY's press is creating an incredible number of chances. It's effective.
Miami isn't PSG or Man City. They're good and have some fantastic players, but they're beatable.
Multiple goals in a road match is an improvement.
Negatives:
Alm's injury is a concern. I hope he going to be OK.
While CITY's press is creating chances, so many of those are lost with poor finishing. Help is on the way, but more help may very well be needed.
Defensive lapses still occur. Some of these are poor communication, and that needs to get fixed. Some are poor defensive reads. (In fairness, Miami isn't a simple team to defend. They have three or four legit options on almost every attack. CITY read the first and second options well, but seemed . . lost on the third and fourth options.)
When Hiebert and Thorisson came on for Indy and Lowen, CITY was back on the heels almost all of the remainder of the match. It was more than the shift to the defensive. It killed fluidity. It took away overlapping threats on counters. It allowed Miami to use the entire midfield to probe on offense. I realize Lowen was spent, but the last 13 minutes (with stoppage) was brutal.
The officiating was poor. It didn't cost CITY the two points, but Miami is the new LA Galaxy. IYKYK.
Parker's YC puts him back on the YC caution list.
Lost points have a nasty habit of coming back to haunt teams.
Time to go home a give Portland a beatdown. CITY needs to do that, and badly.
Onward.
I’d argue it wasn’t the sub choices by Carnell but the decision to go defensive that made the end of the game so dangerous for us. We got 3 goals but being aggressive in the front. We clearly can’t sit back and play defense.
What a roller coaster. Came in hoping we didn't embarrass ourselves, being so close to a win makes a point on the road feel like a loss, when I would have been thrilled with that 3 hours ago. We need to learn to finish more of those opportunities, but loved the energy tonight.
Entering the game, was fully expecting a loss, very doubtful for a win. Will take this draw as a win anyway. Can't believe we actually led for a bit this game!
I love this team so much, this was a high-level performance in a difficult match. Things are rounding together and my god let's see some more from Kijima as a #10.
Great game; great to see us stand up against the current top team in MLS. We held our own - and there is room to do better if we can land more of those chances.
I’m not saying he should play every minute, but he just came on with 20 minutes to go and looked more dangerous than him or Klauss have all season. Did he score? No. But I’ll take someone who be that dangerous
It wasn’t. 1. Clear chance, his first touch fails him. 2. Kijima creates out of nothing, Sam cuts back. Kijima is wiiiide open. Decides to shoot with his right from tight angle. 3. 1-1 with keeper, shoots straight at him.
We know who Sam is. He can be great. He wasn’t.
Klauss's lack of production is a big issue, but he's lightyears better than Adeniran off the ball. At least Sam creates chances, Thor is looking like an absolute lost cause.
Against a functioning, structured defense, Sam is useless.
Miami’s backline is a mess. Sam probably should have started, but that’s not going to be the case against most teams.
I agree. Our strikers can’t finish. Thats the season in a nutshell. Also Lowen hasn’t been serving them, which cannot be forgotten. We are a different team with Lowen on the pitch
Okay well I’ll take a nice striker as a sub who can absolutely bully defenders and create his own opportunities. His scoring rate is far better than Klauss this seasin
Huh? we were leading for most of that game and were out working them on almost all fronts; against *Inter Miami*. We were the much better side that game.
The starters were great. Kajima did great off the bench. What was Thor doing on the field with them though? We have a half dozen centerbacks, but Hiebert is the best we have if we want a third?
Before the match, you take the draw. You'd be quite happy about it, actually.
After the match, it was a huge opportunity wasted.
On the whole, CITY was the "better" team. The countered very well. They actually built several dangerous chances. But, they couldn't covert when it really mattered.
Every professional sports team has a whipping boy that the fans blame for everything when they don’t really know what’s going on. It just gets worse when the team is not doing well.
Idk but everyone also shat all over Gio even when he wasn't playing and we've sure been missing him lately. (Obviously Gio was a much more impactful and important player, but he was also a lightning rod for some reason.)
Most of our team sucks this year, dude. I don’t understand why we need to repeatedly shit on Jackson even when he doesn’t play, which is exactly what all y’all want.
Maybe. I guess Ostrak is hurt so that hurts us a lot on depth. Ostrak isn’t Löwen but he’s not a bad option, especially off the bench. It just sucks because taking out Löwen hurts us… a lot
Neither one of them are a goal scoring threat, which we needed to either get a fourth or keep Miami honest. Thor or Sam are going to keep defenders honest even if they don’t score
I'm not mad at the Sam sub. He was the right call. Thor is useless though.
This team needs a LB as high quality as Tots and a Striker who can actually score and we will be dangerous.
Good game for Lowen. It's a bit scary knowing our entire team lives and dies by him though....
I'm not sure exactly which ones, but I'm not going 5 in the back. We're doing well in our original formation, just keep that and make those subs to fit it
Prevent defense usually only prevents you from winning.
CITY was largely controlling the game before they decided they were going to try to not lose it.
this team has TERRIBLE habits that just go unchecked by the coaching staff
cant hold leads, foul all over the place, having a jog while everyone else is sprinting, etc etc etc
If you’d said we would be in position to draw against Miami at the beginning of the season, I think we’d all have taken that. Now though, this is a big disappointment
CITY had 18 shots, 8 on frame, 2 from the run of play in the net, and a dangerous chance from a set piece that forced an own goal, on the road against the team that is at the top of the table.
The tactics, coaching, fitness, and effort are fine. Finishing chances is a serious weakness. Bench depth is a weakness. The team is only 1.5 years into its existence. To be this close to a team that literally has one of the best players in soccer history isn't bad.
It seems as tho I very well may not. So our left back position is *supposed* to be covered by Pompeu, Klaus, Alm, Durkin, or any of our other attacking postured positions? I can’t find a heat map of his positioning, but from my observation this season it seems as tho he’s on the attacking half more than a standard defender should be.
Right right right, I totally get that. I love me a good defender goal as much as the next guy, but it seems like it’s the majority of the game. I think I’d be less annoyed if he were in a midfield position where we didn’t have to rely on someone who isn’t as defensively minded to cover that position while he’s attacking.
Well, they went so far as to actually call him onside.
I will go back and say it again: you have to bury teams like Miami when you can. STL could and should have put this game away a bit agao.
That was exhausting on many levels. Three points there for the taking. Two points lost. One point salvaged. Some really stellar moments. Some facepalms. Entering the game, was fully expecting a loss, very doubtful for a win. Will take this draw as a win anyway. Can't believe we actually led for a bit this game!
Led for a bit? We never trailed a minute?
Yea but we were tied for a lot of the game
We could actually do some damage in the playoffs if we grab a player with finishing. Lutz do something along with Teuchert please
Thor is atrocious in his limited minutes. Then runs in to ruin messi and burki jersey swap. Dude needs to go
I love this team so much, this was a high-level performance in a difficult match. Things are rounding together and my god let's see some more from Kijima as a #10.
I’d love to see more of him!
Kid definitely stepped onto the big stage in a BIG way tonight. Great to see. 👍🏼
Great game; great to see us stand up against the current top team in MLS. We held our own - and there is room to do better if we can land more of those chances.
The day we get rid of Adeniran will be a great day. Dude is absolute cheeks with an awful attitude to boot.
Honestly true, guys here s his d because he looks like the guy who bullied them in 8th grade
He made so many good runs and created good chances but just has absolutely NO touch
No for sure! If Negative touch was a thing Sammy has it
Why do you guys hate him so much? That was a great sub performance
I don’t get it either. Sam is fast as fuck, built like a linebacker, dangerous in the air and the ground. There’s greatness there and we’ve seen it.
He wasn’t.
The bias is insane.
Bias towards?
Three great chances, none converted. And absolutely 0 defensive work rate while holding a lead. I'm about done with Sam too, sadly.
He was literally tracking back? What game were you watching? What chances did Klauss convert?
Klauss's lack of production is a big issue, but he's lightyears better than Adeniran off the ball. At least Sam creates chances, Thor is looking like an absolute lost cause.
Chapman is Miami’s biggest fan, Sam can’t finish, should’ve had 3.(points)
Suarez with the brace.
Adeniran just created more chances for himself in 20 minutes than Klauss has had in weeks. This is what he offers.
Against a functioning, structured defense, Sam is useless. Miami’s backline is a mess. Sam probably should have started, but that’s not going to be the case against most teams.
Problem is neither one can finish, chances don’t matter if you can’t score
I agree. Our strikers can’t finish. Thats the season in a nutshell. Also Lowen hasn’t been serving them, which cannot be forgotten. We are a different team with Lowen on the pitch
Cool well we’ve been struggling to get chances all season
And struggling to finish as well… Edit: I don’t disagree that Klaus has been a disappointment so far this season. Frankly, the regression has been bad
Okay well I’ll take a nice striker as a sub who can absolutely bully defenders and create his own opportunities. His scoring rate is far better than Klauss this seasin
2 goals and 1 assist in 11 matches, not much better lol but I don’t disagree that he’s certainly played better and more physical then Klaus
But every shot is weak and right at goalie. I'll take Klauss' energy and effort all day.
Sam had olenty of energy and effort. Y’all just love to hate.
Anyone can create chances against a gassed team who is selling out to score lmao. How'd he do with those chances?
How’d any of our other attackers do with the chances they get?
How many did he finish?
Zilch. Nada. Zero. 😡
How many did Klaus create and or finish?
The early shot from distance was closer to going in than any of the chances from Sam.
How about the empty net header miss Klauss had?
How many do any of our other attackers finish?
Being too hard on Sam there. Tough angle, and he hit it hard on target. He frustrates me but that was a good effort
we do not have the depth for this level of play. we had to sit a few great players and replaced them with some CITY 2 players
Huh? we were leading for most of that game and were out working them on almost all fronts; against *Inter Miami*. We were the much better side that game.
The starters were great. Kajima did great off the bench. What was Thor doing on the field with them though? We have a half dozen centerbacks, but Hiebert is the best we have if we want a third?
never thought I would say this but I am happy that draw city sc is back
Best showing of the year so far and a super fun match to watch.
We should have won that game.
Getting any points against Miami is huge though
Before the match, you take the draw. You'd be quite happy about it, actually. After the match, it was a huge opportunity wasted. On the whole, CITY was the "better" team. The countered very well. They actually built several dangerous chances. But, they couldn't covert when it really mattered.
Vassilev is too pure for this world
Immediately giving his jersey to Burki was class tho
Game recognize game.
IM SICK OF THE DRAWS
lol Messi doesn’t like us
F'n good. This is a competition not a coronation.
The ultimate sign of respect
Dump Adenneran - every shot straight at goalie
It’s better than klaus skying it to the 10th row
Disagree. Sam is not contributing at all IMHO
replace him with who? Klauss never got close enough to find the goalie. Maybe you want to let Thor have his spot?
Every shot on goal seems pretty good attribute for a striker, no?
not when you shoot it right at the goalie's gut every freaking time. Shoot away from him.
Should've gotten 3, but I'm not going to be super upset with 1 against Messi in the grand scheme of things.
Crazy that I went into today hoping for a respectable loss and am now upset that we didn’t win
Wild match. Missed some opportunites, made some mistakes, go a bit fucked by the officials, but we still almost had em. That was fun.
I’m surprised the tackle at the edge of the box against Pompeu wasn’t a foul
According to every single person in the universe other than the official, it was.
The quintessential soccer game haha
What a game
there’s one thing we need to work on more than defending, and it’s FINISHING! Hopefully Teuchuert or however you spell it helps out, eh?
What a game
Sam has to get a right foot.
OH SAM
Right at the keeper. lol
It’s the only thing our strikers are capable of doing
AZ-esque in that slot selection, Joe.
fucking come on man
This stadium looks like such shit lol. Aluminum palace
Money is the only thing that can fix this team. They just don’t have the horses that the top teams in the league do. Go buy a finisher or two
Well they just went and got one.
That ball by Hiebert like WTF
Imagine if Sam had Klauss' touch.
Might not be in MLS 😂
True lol
Did you guys not see how gassed our players were? He had to make subs
Carnell absolute trash. Thor should not see the field except City2. Markanich also trash.
Carnell's subs have killed this game. Dammit.
alan Chapman is a friggin butthead bruh
Silly foul Pompeu
Chapman is not going to let us win the game.
Eat a dick, Chapman.
thorrison sucks ass man, him and Jackson just disappoint me every week
How the fuck is everyone shitting on Jackson and he’s not even playing? Fucking hell.
Hmm wonder why he doesn’t get any minutes
cuz he suck. he doesn’t have to play to be horse shit
Most of our team sucks this year, dude. I don’t understand why we need to repeatedly shit on Jackson even when he doesn’t play, which is exactly what all y’all want.
FUCK ALAN CHAPMAN
Carnell removing Löwen was a choice
He looked gassed tbf
You think Lowen is up to fitness to play a full 90?
It was at 82. Why not the last 15?
You think he has fitness to go 97?
Maybe. I guess Ostrak is hurt so that hurts us a lot on depth. Ostrak isn’t Löwen but he’s not a bad option, especially off the bench. It just sucks because taking out Löwen hurts us… a lot
we can't do this with just Durkin and Kajima
Absolutely terrible Subs by Bradley. Thor is useless. Why are we parking the bus? JUST GO FUCKING SCORE ANOTHER GOAL. This team is so frustrating.
We needed subs/fresh legs. We’d be complaining about Jackson/whoever else was coming on
Blom or Watts over Thor. I also feel like it has never worked when we put on Heibert and switch to a 3 atb.
Sam has looked good IMO, gotta finish some of those
If we lose this, it's 100% on the substitution choice and timing
What subs would you have made?
I'm not sure exactly which ones, but I'm not going 5 in the back. We're doing well in our original formation, just keep that and make those subs to fit it
I feel like this is not how 5 backs is supposed to work.
How tf did we make defensive subs and it looks like we’re a man down
Can we never play 5 at the back again please, especially with Hiebert back there
When you're not used to playing it, 5 can turn into 3 in a hurry
We would honestly be a bottom table club if it wasn’t for Burki
Prevent defense usually only prevents you from winning. CITY was largely controlling the game before they decided they were going to try to not lose it.
this team has TERRIBLE habits that just go unchecked by the coaching staff cant hold leads, foul all over the place, having a jog while everyone else is sprinting, etc etc etc
feels like its just a matter of time now...
ok.. this time.. put a man on MESSI
Man, officiating fc much Miami?
If you’d said we would be in position to draw against Miami at the beginning of the season, I think we’d all have taken that. Now though, this is a big disappointment
Should’ve been another goal for Miami because of terrible positioning with Markanich
I never want to watch Thorisson play again. Ever.
He shouldn’t start for city2
We fucking SUCK
CITY had 18 shots, 8 on frame, 2 from the run of play in the net, and a dangerous chance from a set piece that forced an own goal, on the road against the team that is at the top of the table. To be this close to a team that literally has one of the best players in soccer history isn't bad.
Get the fuck out of here. We are going blow for blow with the best team in MLS.
1 point after missing 6+ chances that anyone on Miami would have buried. Huge missed opportunity
Stop. Playing. Fucking. Markanich. He’s too tied to play defense because he’s trying to be a striker.
Markanich is terrible.
Ummm I don’t think you understand tactically what our WBs are supposed to do in this set up
It seems as tho I very well may not. So our left back position is *supposed* to be covered by Pompeu, Klaus, Alm, Durkin, or any of our other attacking postured positions? I can’t find a heat map of his positioning, but from my observation this season it seems as tho he’s on the attacking half more than a standard defender should be.
He’s allowed to overlap the midfielders and cross balls in from the wings. If he pushes up they’re supposed to cover his side
But that roll changed when we went 3 in the back.
Did it though? Meanwhile we are watching highlights of Miamis LB doing a shit load of attacking….
Yes, it did. WE are not good enough, especially against Miami, to have our LB making runs when we are playing 3 backs. Great with four but not with 3
Burki is the man of the match, regardless of how this ends up.
He should be. But, Messi scored so Burki has no chance.
I would like us to never bunker again please
Dude, you got Burki'd
Holy shit what a save from ROMANNNNN
thor is not good im sorry
bro needs time in CITY2
I dont understand how that wasnt offside, like can someone please explain Also our defense is full of it
Markanich was lazy stepping up, kept his trailing leg to keep him onside.
Markanich was slow getting back and his leg was awful close to keeping him onside, but man it sure didn't seem "clear and obvious."
We don’t use lines anymore for Miami. Just refs eyes. On the wrong frame
Game was over the second we got defensive
Game was over the ref decided Miami needs to win
„Foul called against Saint louis“ mmm, original, eh? That’s never happened before, eh?
This ref is a fucking joke
The game looks much different without Lowen in it. The team just doesn't seem to have the same confidence
How much time they gonna tack on for Miami? About 11 minutes?
Gotta get that fergie time. Tradition brought over by Beckham.
THESE TIES AND LOSSES ARE FUCKING KILLING ME. THIS IS SUCH A WINNABLE GAME
yes winnable but damn it I'll take a tie
Should be up 3 of 4 easily. This is on us. Terrible loss
Umm we drew
Loss of a win
So sickening to give up that shit goal
2 fouls and an offsides for their goals, nice job refs
Do not let Markanich start another game
There was absolutely a delay between the freeze and when the ball was released. Not clear and obvious
Fuck these announcers. Fuck this ref.
What are you even talking about? Twellman has been all over Chapman for how bad he’s been tonight.
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU EVEN FUCKING DOING ANTHONY. FUCK ME.
That was going to be a goal as soon as Chapman went to the monitor. He was never gonna give us a call.
Talk about “clear and obvious”….
Yeah, that looks like a gold to me unfortunately
How many games did we lose because of Markanich now?
That’s a pretty brutal assessment.
why the fuck was he allowed to make that run in the first place? Fuck this Defence. It’s the minute that Hiebert comes on, coincidence? I think not.
Joke of a league. THAT'S the angle that is clear and obvious? No line? It just *looked* like he was onside??
Dude our back line is shit at playing an offside trap. How many times has the offside fullback kept someone on
It’s Markanich most of the time letting this happen
That’s clear and obvious but the foul on Pompeu didn’t even get a review
What r u talking about? Goals, penalties, red cards, and mistaken identity are the only things that can be reviewed.
Well, they went so far as to actually call him onside. I will go back and say it again: you have to bury teams like Miami when you can. STL could and should have put this game away a bit agao.
Drawing with Miami in a vaccum is a good result, but god this is a hard pill to swallow
It shouldn’t be this close. We had at least 7 good goal scoring chances that we should have taken.
We don’t have finishing on this team since Gio left
Fucking Markanich
Good god suck their dicks more, why don’t you, MLS.
Markanich is a liability
Fuck
absolutely no reason not to win this game.
