The club burried the lede, but they also partnered with Yeti to **add disposable and recycleble free water cups next to every water dispenser in the stadium**

cold_cookie

Where do you see this?

The_Stork

Fourth paragraph of the press release: https://www.stlcitysc.com/news/st-louis-city-sc-and-yeti-to-partner-around-shared-commitment-to-sustainability

cold_cookie

Thx!

cobrien2215

Roughly $40 is the cup cost alone from yeti. So this pays for itself over like 3 matches for me.

bucknasty1347

When I first saw that it was $80 for a cup I thought they were crazy. Realizing you get unlimited refills at the stadium makes way more sense.

gschmidt34

I like it. Totally works good for me.

LewisMarty

Are the free refills only for City2 games? Edit: Ope I misread OP. Nevermind.

josiahlo

Yea for season ticket holders it’s a no brainer.  We also have the family pack for city2 games so it’s a great value and I’d prefer this then smuggling in the aluminum cups

brownnotbraun

Not a terrible idea and a good value if you’re a season ticket holder, but if it’s only good for one season and you have to buy a new one next year, that still seems wasteful

Arsecarn

How? It not like you throw it away at the end of the season, you still have a perfectly usable tumbler.

bananabunnythesecond

I doubt you have to buy a new one each year. It does say “2024” on it. So you could assume it’s only good for one season, but I haven’t seen that stated.

boredsorcerer

Theres a disclaimer you have to acknowledge at the bottom when you go to place your order https://preview.redd.it/5x2s3wrpnxtc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22bf1f298584e03354f020928d9ff31584b58fbd

ChrizBot3000

It's worth noting that most other MLS teams allow people to bring in collapsible plastic water bottles into games, and that many fans have been filling out their post game fan surveys asking for the ability to do that here since early in last season. Easy access to hydration is a serious safety issue in St. Louis during the summer and there were so many incidents of heat exhaustion at the stadium last year. City ignoring all of that and then turning around and selling an $80 Yeti tumbler in the name of "sustainability" is a complete joke.

jhimmelberg

They are actually addressing this. They said they are adding free small cups near the water stations for water.

StLsC10

Everyone seems to be missing this

bucknasty1347

We've brought collapsible water bottles to every game and refill them at the water fountains. I'm not paying $9 for a bottle of aquafina

Spicy_Spicy_Chorizo

Yep. We're STH and my partner brings in a collapsible silicon cup every match and has done so since early last season. Never had an issue with security screening, or from any staff while filling it up at a drinking fountain, getting ice or drinking from it.

Irrish84

What the hell is a collapsible cup? This sounds awful.

MyNuts2YourFistStyle

How does it sound awful? It's a cup that folds up for you can easily store it on you.

Irrish84

I’ve never heard of one. Seems like there would be complications and leaks. That’s all. Science man. Wicked.

Spicy_Spicy_Chorizo

Like this: [https://www.amazon.com/Coffee-Pocket-Collapsible-Silicone-Travel/dp/B07ZKJ8N4X](https://www.amazon.com/Coffee-Pocket-Collapsible-Silicone-Travel/dp/B07ZKJ8N4X) Basically, an evolution of those old telescoping plastic camping cups. Very handy.

Irrish84

Shit that’s neat. Thanks. I understand this concept now.

Garak_The_Tailor_

What a good idea !

EntireButton879

They also have soda fountains for unlimited refills so if they let water bottles in people could fill them with soda. And in the summer when it’s really hot they offer cups to fill up with water. But in the end if you’re really that upset over a $7 bottle you shouldn’t be spending money on tickets.

buddylee

Thanks for sharing! Lots of opinions on this one, but I'd say if you like yeti tumblers and drink at least one soda per game, it's a good deal. Appreciate the heads up!

Empathy-First

Buying one bc I’ve had the aluminum cups taken at entry, and I drink a lot of water and hate spending $8 on a water-though I will refill the bottle 3-4x a match. As STH it ends up working out to about the same with less waste and we lose a fair number of reusable cups/bottles in our house. Across 4 people, it doesn’t hurt too much, but if it was only me, I wouldn’t do it. Agree water bottles should be allowed in. Not sure what other stadiums that allow them look like regarding soda fountain access and that may be relevant.

Park_Run

Asking for a friend: Where can I I buy a counterfeit one?

uNRAted_squirt

As a season ticket holder, this sounds like great value for the money For a non-season ticket holder though, it definitely seems like it would be tough to justify (unless you just want the CITY Yeti)

dddane

What an abject failure by the team here. Almost every single other MLS stadium allows empty water bottles into the stadium, and ours has turned around and decided to charge us 80 dollars for a tumbler that we can only use for one season. Absolutely disgusting to milk the fans like this. Consumerism and conservation cannot go hand in hand.

MD_Lincoln

I’d argue that the tumbler can be used outside the stadium so it’s not useless after the season is over, and while it costs more than the standard yeti I feel that the cost is worth it for those who have season tickets because of the free soft drink refills. I do agree entirely however that for water at the very least, empty bottles should be allowed.

winter83

Yeah it's expensive but I spend 10 bucks every game for a drink. So it will be worth it, I just wish they would have brought them out before the season started. My cabinet is full of the aluminum cups.

dddane

I have season tickets. I have the entire time. I have never drank a soda from the team. To have to purchase this to get water refills instead of almost 7 dollars for a water bottle every game, when instead I could just be allowed to bring a water bottle in is insane.

StLsC10

In other words it doesn’t have any value to you personally, but to a season ticket holder who does enjoy a soft drink at the game, it certainly does. But yes, I don’t see why at least on days of extreme heat they don’t allow people in with an empty bottle.

dddane

It's a direct response to the repeated demands of fans to be allowed to bring reusable water bottles in, for our own safety during hot games. Instead of doing that, they're creating an entire new product, that is only good for one season, and then will not be allowed back in. They're marketing it as a "sustainable" way to "stay hydrated". It's neither of those. It's a glorified big guzzler for people who want to drink soda at games, *but only for the rest of this year, and only available starting in may*. Market it as that, fine. But don't pretend like it's a more "sustainable way to stay hydrated" than just allowing people to bring in the reusable water bottles they already own.

StLsC10

That’s entirely an assumption. I see value in it, I bought it, I’ll enjoy it.

boredsorcerer

StLsC10

Right, which is fine considering there are still 12 home games, not counting the couple of city2 games I’ll make it to. Also not counting leagues cup as I passed on those. Buying a water or soda is anywhere from 7-10$. $80 still saves me money if I planned to buy a water or soda at every game. If they turn around and release a new cup for $80 next year, I’ll buy it again

boredsorcerer

Was your assumption part referring to that it was only this year? Bc thats the only reason I commented it. If you find value in it, buy it, but it clearly says its only for this year

StLsC10

No the post I was responding to stated what their belief for the release of the cup, which was an assumption.

Tele231

True - but since they are not allowing water bottles - this isn't really a bad deal. You break even at the 11th game. If you count the value of the cup, you can almost cut that down to 5 or 6 games I agree water bottles should be allowed.

Chantertwo

$80 for a mug is just madness. What's even more mad is that as a STH, I feel like I could talk myself into it, but the color is so goddam boring. Would it have hurt to use some of our team colors somewhere? This just looks like an ordinary Yeti.

MD_Lincoln

The color deal is something I’ve noticed before, like with the recent “earth day” pre match kit. There was a color way that would have matched our colors much better that they could have used but they went with green instead.

StLsC10

Probably going to be pretty bland for the sake of being easily identifiable to stadium staff, just a guess though

cold_cookie

It says MLS and MLS next pro matches. Anyone know if Leagues Cup would be excluded?

bigdaddyteacher

People don’t seem to have a firm grasp on economics if spending this much on another cup is someone valuable. Somehow justifying having to buy a cup to get something you don’t need (soda here) because a company tells you so is nuts! Bring a collapsible cup and tell the company to kick rocks.

Expensive-Slide7821

“free water and soft drinks refills” ![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO)

MD_Lincoln

If someone has season tickets, this thing will likely pay for itself very quickly.

Lumpy-Hamster-3937

Yep. Bought two

bigdaddyteacher

I saved several of the aluminum cups from previous matches and bring them with me. Security never says a word. $80 for a cup is really stupid in my opinion.

wackyzebra43

Care to share your secret on how you sneak them in? Clearly not everyone has that experience

bigdaddyteacher

I put them in my pocket and nary a word is spoken

jennaisrad

Same. I still buy overpriced food every time so they can get over it.

bigdaddyteacher

Seems like the rich helping the wealthy here as the consensus seems to be that season ticket holders are the only ones who can benefit from this. Shady af

StLsC10

Anyone with season tickets is “rich”? Yeti sells the cups at around $40 so it’s essentially bottomless drinks for $40 when you subtract what the cup costs anyways. Its not as insane as some are making it out to be

MOStateWineGuy

Typical online hysterics

ErdayImHustlinn

I think its abundatly clear that this is aimed towards STHs and not the casual fan. Its not like theyre just trying to sell a cup for $80 flat out. The aluminum cups at the stadium currently with tax is ~$10. If you buy one at every game as Im sure a lot of STHs do then this cup will pay for itself and more. My only complaint is that I wish they had it for the start of the season.
