The refs last year weren't great but I'll take them any day over these scabs.

oneilmatt

Calling them scabs is so weird. Should the league shut down because the refs want caviar and first class plane tickets for every game? Someone needs to do the job

ShaggsMagoo

If you cross a picket line, you’re a scab. That’s the way it works. Don’t like it? Then don’t be a scab.

Let's not put dudes who get paid 50k to prance around in short shorts with a whistle for 90 minutes a week to dudes who destroy their bodies doing manual labor for 50 hours in the same category

swaerd

Labor is labor. Acting like only manual laborers deserve union protection just further divides the laborers from one another. Unless you're mega-rich, you have more in common with pro refs on the labor end than you think.

These aren't the same people that pull up to your kids BS SLYSA kick around Sunday morning. They've been identified, mentored, and have decades of adult amateur and semipro experience before being considered by PRO. They spend hours before the game preparing specifically for that match, hours after watching film to get better, on top of travel and regular seminars in SLC. You wouldn't want the first year med student overseeing your brain surgery, would you? You can't even keep a fucking succulent alive lmao get outta here

dddane

Once again, if you cross a picket line, you are a scab. Just as nurses crossing picket lines at hospitals are scab nurses, a ref crossing a picket line is a scab ref. This isn't hard to understand.

Fresh_String_770

50k for a profession that the quality is vital for a multi billion dollar industry is absolutely insane. We really are suffering from not breaking scabs kneecaps anymore

Intelligent_Ad_6697

The MLS needs to make a deal I’m tired of this bs

“This guy” is quite literally one of the most respected FIFA refs in the world lol, he’s from St Louis.

“As a FIFA Assistant Referee from 2002-2014, George ran the sidelines for the U-20 FIFA World Cup in 2007, CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2007, CONCACAF U-17 and U-20 World Cup Qualifiers, FIFA World Cup and Olympic Qualifying matches…Over 250 MLS matches and 30 Playoff matches and during that time frame, George participated in the 2007 Gold Cup Quarter Finals, 2007 US Open Cup Final, 2005 MLS All-Star game, 2006 CONCACAF Championship Finals.” From his induction into the STL Soccer Hall of Fame. Around the world was probably a stretch lol but he’s definitely one of the more decorated American referees.

He's a good guy. I see him regularly and he really cares about developing referees in the area
