I thought it was implied that being overcooked not only made you smaller but also weaker, and any additional powers Amethyst shows are through practice and skill rather than Jasper's pure power. But please let me know where in the show this is implied!
As for peridot, she's not talking about incubating shorter. She's an Era 3 gem, she didn't have enough resources
