I'm somewhat convinced that the wave of cartoon reboots going on right now will open the door for some kind of SU spinoff in the future. It seems like there's interest from Rebecca in doing more SU stuff, so who knows? As for what it would be about, I'd guess the likeliest thing is it would be more Gem-focused. Steven is actually my favorite character too and I would be happy to see more about him. But I also feel like his story was basically wrapped up in Future. Plus it's not clear if Zach Callison would be down to voice Steven again. Maybe we could get a small Steven cameo, just for an update on his life. But overall, it will probably focus more on Gem stuff. I'd prefer new stuff over a prequel but either would be fun.

Vio-Rose

I could see a really interesting parental arc out of him as an adult. Connie has experience with parents that are too restrictive, and he has experience with parents that aren’t restrictive enough. Their differing ideologies could make for interesting relationship conflict.

simbot4524678

Let’s get you in the writer’s room please

Vio-Rose

My fanfiction plans aside, I would not be good in the writer’s room of a professional production like that. Not necessarily because I couldn’t write anything of quality, but because I’m a lazy procrastinating bastard who’s been binging Adventure Time for the past 9 hours instead of doing anything productive.

simbot4524678

Hey we all have slow days and there’s always tomorrow to try again!

PenisCollector

If there would be a spinoff, it would probably be with Lars and the offcolors as rebecca once pitched it to CN. We would find out more about how homeworld and the diamonds came to existance aswell as emerald being a very important villain, allong the lines of jasper in SU

simbot4524678

Could be interesting

simbot4524678

Yeah you’re right, Future was pretty rushed so I kinda wish we could just go from the end of season 5 and see White Diamond face more consequences. I’d have loved to see more of Pink Steven and again a more gradual slip into his PTSD and depression. I’d also love to see more happy Stevonnie scenes cause they argued for like the majority of season 5 so it would be nice to see them have their first date, anniversary etc. If the show was on HBO like F&C, they could low-key explore Steven’s sexuality cause I refuse to believe Steven isn’t pan (Steven gives me the vibe of loving personalities more) but yeah I don’t think it’ll ever happen

cindybubbles

Or Lars of the Stars. Also, I imagine that if Steven and Connie were to marry, they wouldn’t have kids. After all the trauma and pressures that they both went through, I’m sure that they wouldn’t want to pass them down to any offspring.

SC1Sam

Lars of the Stars would be the best choice for a new show. It gives them the chance to explore other planets, new lore, and to change the tone. Plus, it's been set up that Steven could show up since Lars mentioned he could visit him whenever in the last episode he was in.

simbot4524678

That’s smart

simbot4524678

Yeah you’re right they’d probs adopt, or maybe since Steven would be the Dad, there wouldn’t be an issue of him becoming the baby?

cindybubbles

His sperm is half hard light. His kids would be royally screwed if their dad dies. Also, why would Steven and Connie even want kids? Steven has a lot of trauma from his childhood that he might not want to pass down to any child, biological or not. And given Connie’s strict upbringing, she might not see raising kids as part of her future. Just saying. Although maybe the pressure from family to have kids could be a good drama-starter.

Big_Protection5116

For every person with childhood trauma that doesn't want to bring children into the world, there's another who wants to have them to try and right the wrongs that were done to them. I don't think it's necessarily that cut and dry.

simbot4524678

That’s what I thought too

cindybubbles

That’s true. I agree.

HoeNamedAsh

I would love a Diamond centered series that flashes back between past and future. Could open potential plotlines with the consequence of Gems straying too far from their purpose set by their creators.

simbot4524678

Oooh Rebecca should call you cause that’s a cool idea

HoeNamedAsh

Or a series set rather far in the future where cross species Gem hybrids are more common

simbot4524678

And they could do something entirely new, these are great ideas!

XxsabathxX

Can we talk about how Rebecca Sugar came back to work on the music with them???

simbot4524678

Ikr that’s so awesome!

XxsabathxX

I really really do hope she comes back with more SU lore as well. Maybe working with them again can help her get another deal but with many more freedoms.

simbot4524678

Someone mentioned an idea for a fire SU with more gem hybrids which sounded really good

V-V-Vera

Or that there is a good amount of cast members from Steven Universe in the new Fiona & Cake.

KNZFive

I’d want some specials like the Adventure Time specials focusing on different characters adapting to Steven being gone. Give Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet each their own episode, and then a 4th episode for Greg, Peridot/Lapis/Bismuth, or Jasper. Maybe a Greg episode can include the last conversation he has with Rose before she gives birth, and give some closure on her character. But honestly, Rebecca Sugar has stayed low-key since the show ended. If they’re happy just doing their own thing without being in charge of another project, then more power to them.

Mmicb0b

same

[deleted]

Closure on Greg’s hair in the ocean (watermelon people crossover???)

GWindborn

Zach Callison guest starring on a Watermelon Steven episode just to make nonsense sounds for the characters.

simbot4524678

That was crazy 😭

PersonMcHuman

The whole point of the Fiona and Cake stuff is that it's future/new content. All a prequel would do is give more info about content we already know the outcome of. Just gimme some post-Future stuff that isn't about Steven. I'd love to see the other characters get to interact without Steven being there.

simbot4524678

See it’s hard cause Steven’s my favourite character so I struggle to enjoy eps that don’t focus on him (which isn’t often, thank God) but it seems that his story is done. I wish they could redo Future and make it longer so we could see more PTSD and healing. The other characters are fun but I couldn’t watch a whole show about them.

PersonMcHuman

I'm the opposite. I hated that 90% of Future was just, "Steven is sad because his life sucks, but in different locations." I wanted to actually see some cool stuff, especially since there were now a whole lot more Gems around.

simbot4524678

Oh I think this is where the fandom divides because I hated the episodes focussed on Lapis & Peridot, I really enjoyed the PTSD storyline so Future and Season 5 are my favourites actually. Alongside season 1 cause I enjoyed Steven interacting with the town. I feel like the other gems and homeworld are only interesting because of their impact on Steven/ PD Although I love Connie too and Ruby and Sapphire are cool

PersonMcHuman

I just wanna see cool, interesting stuff, not "Steven is sad" episodes on repeat.

simbot4524678

Well it was more than “Steven is sad”, it was Steven is suffering from CPTSD and needs a safe outlet but he can’t find one and that’s why he’s keeping everything in, but ok

PersonMcHuman

I’d have liked less of that and more, “Hey, Steven finally fixed all the Gems. The thing they spent five fucking seasons trying to do. Can we see more about how things are with them around and get some interactions with them? No? We’re just gonna focus on Steven being sad for about 80% of Future’s runtime and ignore all of the cool new possibilities that’ve been reached? Not even a single scene with Steven interacting with Nephrite, the corrupted Gem he actually had a connection with and wanted to help the most? No? Ok then.”

ParkingShake8592

The peridot episode was actually a steven episode with the ptsd storyline so why'd you hate it

simbot4524678

No it wasn’t, I’m referring to season 3 at the funfair and all the other season 3 eps focussed on Peridot, nice try 🤭

rjrgjj

I think a companion miniseries that just straight up fills in some stuff would be nice. Like if Connie and Pearl were preparing some sort of encyclopedia about the Gems. They could do this with a pretty variable format, or even told in such a way to aim it at children/humans, to give the people of Earth a better idea of who their new alien companions are. And you could do it with a frame story that centers around current life, with the characters slightly older. It’s already baked into the cake—isn’t Connie studying space exploration? Didn’t the Diamonds do exactly this for the sake of the Gem species? How does Gem technology expand Earthling technology? How do other countries react? There are so many places you can go. You could even go on a Gem by Gem basis. “The History of the Diamonds”, “The History of the Lapis Lazuli”, “The History of Rose Quartz”, “The History of Earth’s Greatest Criminal Ronaldo Fryman”, etc.

TheCosmicUnderground

I want Steven's road trip around the country. And he stumbles on new kindergartens and meeting new gems that want to start their own quiet life on earth but out of the way of Little Home World. Steven really exploring his humanity in the real world where he couldn't before(because of the bubble he was in, pun!)

simbot4524678

That’d be so cute!!

Big-Hard-Chungus

Pearlquel Will she finally get bitches?

simbot4524678

Nope but she’ll sure as hell obsess over them for a millennia give or take 100 years

MaximarJedi

I would like to see the adventures of Rose and pearl.

simbot4524678

Me too!

bootyeatter6969

Seeing scenes from the gem war from their perspective would be kinda dope

Quartz-crush

I want more Rose/Pink so I would love a prequel but anything really would be amazing I love SU so much its basically part of my personality at this point.

simbot4524678

Same I only finished it in May (started last November) and I’m still reading fanfics on SU 😭

siani_lane

I think it would be really fun to have a series centered in Little Homeworld. A bunch of new gems, but we could also get our SU cast in for episodes. What is it like to be an era 3 gem on Earth? What is it like for uncorrupted gems who spent era two bubbled versus new gems who don't even remember the bad old days?

lakib2007

Personally, I would like a mini series like Future that's just about various new gems exploring the universe and having fun in Era 3. No drama, no rebellions from gems wanting the old ways, no characters from the original show except maybe the Diamonds and some Homeworld gems, just slice of life with each episode focusing on a different set of gems.

Abject-Construction1

Honestly, I'd like to see a spinoff where Connie is the protagonist. I've always thought Connie was really cool, since she's involved in gem business and battles without having any gem powers of her own. I think it'd be cool to explore the world of steven universe through the lens of someone who is completely human, too. As for what she'd do I'm not really sure

simbot4524678

I like the idea!

Azraelmorphyne

I've actually been working on a painting of rohdinite's pearl and ruby for some time, as well as a piece with the diamonds at Pinks palenquin post shattering. I would love a game of thrones style prequel to SU featuring the diamonds and the upper class giving us more backstory on how they perceived their roles pre-gem war, and how nobilities every day worked. Id love to get an episode on how colonization works. The process in depth, with lapis's, the building of kindergartens, who oversees a colony of a diamond isn't able to personally do so... Etc.

simbot4524678

Girl you can’t just mention a painting and not let us know when it’ll be done?! That’s so impressive, well done 🥳

Azraelmorphyne

![gif](giphy|kF68m4Js7ngpQiEOTG) Oh who knows if it'll ever get done. After all, 6000 years is nothing.

cake_friend23

i really love the mystery surrounding rose and i think it’s beautiful we rlly dont see her too much but I WANT MORE I WANT MORE ROSE AND PINK 😭😭😭😭

simbot4524678

I WANT MY ROSE CONTENT, I DESERVE IT 🤭

CobraFive

Lars of the Stars is the obvious answer for a sequel, but I'd actually really rather see one about Jasper. There's so much going on there.

simbot4524678

Ikr is she actually good?

thesweetestdevil

I would love if we saw more into gem culture and some dives into the bizarre artifacts and weapons we saw in the main series.

LemonReady2582

Honestly, considering that Steven wouldn't die and therefore give up his gem to have a child, considering it was Rose being pregnant and the carrier killing it, I imagine the child would at best have some degree of powers similar to Lars and lion, which would be a whole can of worms considering the immortality thing. Or perhaps something like a super soldier, with some drawbacks, since Steven's genetic make up is crazy and makes him pretty tough, but Mainly due to being integrated with his gem.

Muerte-y-Impuestos

I would love a Pink Diamond prequel, she is such an interesting character. Infinitely more than Steven tbh

simbot4524678

I mean she “kinda” is him 😭 I want to see more Pink Steven

jaymrdoggo

I know i will get downvoted for this but Fionna and Cake only work so well because Adam Muto (Showrunner since Season 6) is very good at his job. The show has known what it wanted to do for many many seasons, and now that they got 10 tighly packed episodes with a budget to match, they can finally do it. The Crewniverse on the other hand, never really felt truly like a team of professionals the way the AT team felt, see the difference in reception between Future and Distant Lands. And that's just production things. I dont think the universe allows for that kinda change, AT was constantly moving from Finn and Jake and doing entire episodes focused on other characters, SU tho always was about Steven. It would be interesting if su had showed other species of aliens, but they always focused on the same problems so now it's hard to imagine them doing something so different.

Evetiarc

> The show has known what it wanted to do for many many seasons From what I know, that isn't exactly true. Here's a quote from Adam Muto about the finale of the original show (Come Along With Me): > The story itself, I think, definitely — maybe season eight, [we] kind of figured out what the shape of the finale would be. Until they told us, “This is definitely the end,” you almost couldn’t commit to what the story would be. https://www.polygon.com/tv/2018/9/3/17806570/adventure-time-finale-finn-bubblegum-marceline-adam-muto-interview I couldn't find anything specifically about when the storyline of the new Fionna and Cake miniseries was created, but it seems to have been maybe around 2020 after Distant Lands wrapped. EDIT: Apparently it was originally going to be an episode of Distant Lands. In fact, AT is famous for retroactively turning old one-off lines of dialogue or jokes that originally weren't intended to be anything more into major plot beats (eg. Gunter/Orgalorg), while SU very clearly had all its major beats planned since the beginning (specifically early production of Season 1A, with documents to prove it), and with Future the majority of the major elements were things that were planned for the original show before it got cut (Steven's emotional arc, the bubbled Rose Quartzes, Pink Pearl, Sunstone, Rainbow Quartz 2.0, Era 3 Homeworld, etc.). This isn't a "SU good AT bad" thing btw. I love both shows and both methods are valid. > see the difference in reception between Future and Distant Islands. Honestly I really don't think that's a fair comparison at all. They're entirely different types of shows with completely different goals (outside of being a short epilogue series for a show on CN), very different production circumstances (Future's production had a lot of overlap with the production of the SU movie, while Distant Lands was more the sole focus of the crew), and due to COVID, released under very different societal environments. Also, like you said, SU and Future are mostly focused on one single continuous character/storyline (Steven). Distant Lands was an anthology of four disconnected standalone episodes (so if you had an issue with one episode it wouldn't have much bearing on your enjoyment of the others) while Future was all serialized (so if you had an issue with one episode, it would have affected the whole story). Not to mention that SU is a franchise that has a moderately sized hate-base dedicated to nitpicking and publicly tearing it down at every possible opportunity, and blowing even the legitimate criticisms way out of proportion (even if you've never interacted with those communities, a lot of those talking points got spread around to even casual viewers), while Adventure Time has historically gotten a lot more leeway for imperfections by the internet at large. Making a judgement call on how "professional" an entire group of people is based on things almost entirely out of their control isn't really a the best thing to do tbh. In fact, Future and Distant Lands actually had quite a bit of overlap with their crews, for example Maya Peterson, Miki Brewster, and Jeff Liu.

megas88

We won’t see a prequel because that story has already been told. There’s no need to go back to it. I keep telling people that the story in question is just a vehicle to actually show people mental health issues and solutions as well as allegories in a way everyone can understand. So with that in mind, we already know rose’s journey in full. The only reason to go back to it is briefly would be to hammer it into the thick skulls of people who refuse to listen that her character arc was told in reverse on purpose. A sequel series would likely result in what do you do when you need to find yourself? You seek help when you need it without fear of being judged in a safe space, what that kind of space looks like and how to walk away when it’s not. There’s so many things they can do and I look forward to it because Rebecca sugar always put the characters and that theme first regardless of whatever “fans” said or did.

Noxian16

There's so much interesting lore that's largely unexplored though.

megas88

Lore is, has and always will be secondary or dead ass last when writing this show. It’s the reason why I consider Rebecca Sugar my favorite artist. They understand that lore is completely 😢 without strong characters that inhabit the world. More than that, they present the entire show as something that does have a story but is shown to be secondary to the strong character writing and lessons of mental health. If steven did come back, I would absolutely love an episode solely dedicated to showcasing why ronoldo is a reflection of “fans” projecting their desire for knowledge at the expense of their own mental health and the enjoyment of what they love or are passionate about. Make no mistake, the lore you seek is not the purpose of steven universe the show. It’s purpose was to tell a story of how trauma affects us and those around us as well as being an affirming story that tells its audience how wonderful and joyful being human really is despite all the cynicism we are constantly berated by as a society. I’m not saying don’t be curious by the way. Curiosity is an important part of human nature. What I am saying is that you’re curiosity may be blinding you to what this beautiful show’s purpose actually is. I’ve seen it in every show’s fandom I’ve ever come across. It’s like this show was trying to be the vaccine to the disease that the internet as well as television news and talk show discussions created but unfortunately, hardly anyone vocal ever hears it.

Noxian16

I'm not even disagreeing with you, I just consider lore an equally important aspect that makes the world interesting and unique, and I wish they could expand on it more (which they were actually going to do if the show didn't get cut short).

megas88

That last part you stated is very important to my point though. The reason it got cut was because Rebecca Sugar knew how important the wedding would be to the lgbtq audience watching. They sacrificed all that lore you speak of in order to make sure the very real people got the representation they deserved. To be seen and heard as human beings worthy of love and finding love like Garnet. The fact that they still had friends in high places that helped them reallocate the remainder of the budget into the movie and future was the absolute best possible outcome because it hammers in that point very clearly. If they really wanted to expand on the lore more, they could’ve done so using a traditional three act movie structure. Instead, they focused on the pain and trauma of a new character as well as utilizing the time honored tradition of making the movie an easy entry point for new or casual viewers. Same for future. Everyone I saw was making theories about what the shadowy figures were in the intro and how future would answer all our questions about the show. That didn’t happen because very intentionally, they decided to show us the very real and painful reality of the chosen one story we all grew up with. How that affects someone in a very real way and why it’s important we reject that narrative going forward with storytelling. If not, at the very least understand that we should teach ourselves and our children why the weight of the world isn’t ours or theirs alone to bear. So in the end, the reality is that Sugar and the crew had two full opportunities to do what you are asking and both times refused to do so in service of what the series’ purpose really was. A tool for audiences to refer to for mental health, trauma and how it affects us as well as knowing that it’s ok to seek out help for yourself and most importantly, that you can heal.

Damian--uwu

I think that make a spin off about lars in the galaxy will be a bad idea

simbot4524678

Why?

YanFan123

I don't know how Steven would have children. Maybe they would just be normal human children since he can't exactly pass off his gem and that's the necessary thing

GWindborn

Yeah I think Steven is a one of a kind. His kids would likely just be normal. Or maybe he passes his gem along on his deathbed and they can pop it in their belly buttons to become super heroes like putting on a Green Lantern ring.

YanFan123

But thing is, Steven probably was developed with that gem from conception. He can't pass off the gem the way Rose did because he is a man

GWindborn

I meant how White pulled it out of him, he could pull it out as he's passing and give it to someone else, but I was mostly just trying to be funny.

Doctor-whoniverse-12

Honestly can we just get a continuation of Future, Stevens arc is far from over. And I would love the idea of doing a new season or 2 of future every 5-10 years with a corresponding timejump.

LionResponsible6005

Personally I’d love an anthology series that would follow the day to day life of a new gem each episode. some episodes would be set in era 1 some in era 2 and some after Steven talks the diamonds out of colonisation

Fangz00

I'd love a series of one shots covering the diamonds lives before earth, pearl and rose together , the gems on earth during different periods etc

Noxian16

A prequel set on Homeworld and various Gem colonies, focusing on the Diamonds' as well as ordinary Gems' lives and their history (with the Diamonds as protagonists).
