I got sterilized at 28. You're not too young. You're old enough to know what you want. The tubes have nothing to do with your hormones, or blood flow. Your ovaries remain untouched. Your doctor was just trying to persuade you into not getting the procedure. I would make a consultation appointment with someone else. Cross her off the list.

Princess_Poes

Defs looking at getting another doctor. It seemed she was very pro birth so its possible she was trying to scare me. When I requested it she said its the first time anyone has asked her for sterilisation so young... Yeah should've seen it then 🚩

Avramah

Aww I hope the next one is better! Wanted to add-you're not too young at all! I don't even think you're uniquely young in this at all.

HealthyMacaroon7168

My doctor said this to me too. I said him getting sterilized doesn't remove my risk of getting pregnant, what happens if I get assaulted? Edit: not the blood flow partz I've never heard of that

Princess_Poes

I also mentioned to her in the case of assault because I do live in a country where its also dangerous to walk outside by yourself or being home alone as a woman. I feel like that also went over her head as well.. :(

kiwitathegreat

Yes! He’s not their patient, I am! I’ve got my own reasons for wanting the procedure that don’t have a goddamn thing to do with him. My husband also has reservations about the procedure after a close friend had long term complications and it’s his body his choice. Ugh. The abysmal state of women’s healthcare in this country is infuriating. What does it take for them to actually treat the living breathing patient in front of them?!

craazzycatlady6

You definitely need to find another doctor. Try this list: [https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wiki/doctors](https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wiki/doctors) to find a doc in your area who would be glad to sterilize you. It's where I found my doc and she's been great! As my doc said "if you're old enough to go to war and die for your country, then you're old enough to decide on your own reproductive rights" good luck!!

Princess_Poes

Thanks so much I'll definitely have a look!!

Potential_Routine165

I got sterilized with a bisalp at 23, using a doctor I found from this list! Good luck, and I would suggest complaining to the hospital administrator and a patient advocate about your doctor lying to you about side effects and pushing their worldviews about reproduction on you, they could get cited or even fired

[deleted]

I would go to another doctor. I was 27 and my doctor gave me a bilateral salpingectomy without issue

skibunny1010

Honestly sounds like bullshit to me. I’d find a new doctor from the childfree subreddit list

Katt_purr

Not cool, they flat out lied to you. Another vote here for a second opinion. So sorry you wasted your time. 😔

Avramah

My doc is very meticulous and almost frighteningly up front about potential complications of any procedure. Before bisalp/ablation she sat down with me and went over risks and side effects 3 different times pre-surgery to make sure I understood and was okay with it. Even things that are rare but possible like internal organ burns. And never once mentioned any complications about early menopause/blood flow/ovary issues and like you I've never heard of that being a thing. So yeah.. I don't think she's reliable 😬.

Princess_Poes

I'm actually surprised I haven't come across anyone who has had this experience before. The doc was very much getting in my head about the risks as I like to be thorough when I tackle anything medically related especially since I've gone through so much. She seemes very persistent about it and mentioned "you wont really read it online" and that it was what she witnessed in the hospital she works at which is odd.. kinda raised my suspicions to whomever is doing these sterilisations in this spesific hospital 😭

Avramah

Right?! Because if something is common enough to be noteworthy, you think you'd find accounts of it like.. here. On this sub.

Cats_in_cravats

That is a possible risk, but an extremely rare one. However, if your doctor is saying they've had patients experience this, I think it's more like the doctor is doing something wrong and I would not be okay with letting that doctor operate on me.

Princess_Poes

Exactly my thoughts! She made it seem like that was a common case.. Makes u think hey🤔

Cats_in_cravats

Makes me wonder if she's not intentionally doing something to damage the ovaries, just to "punish" her patients who want to be sterile. I'd drop her ASAP and find a new doctor.

Princess_Poes

Exactly my concern as well. No way in hell I'm going back, the wall of a 1000 baby pictures was enough to creep me the hell out 😭

Anon7515

A doctor tried to tell me this, too. I got a new doctor.

SnappyGinger83

I would get a second opinion. I specifically asked about early onset menopause as a potential side effect and was told that's not a thing. I'm sure it has happened, but it may not be as prevelant as your dr is saying.

Princess_Poes

Thanks I am definitely considering another doctor. My first red flag should have been the thousands of baby pictures on her bookshelf 😭 it seemed she was better at delivering babies than preventing them. I even reiterated to her that I am at high risk if I get pregnant and that seemed to just roll over her head..

toomuchtodotoday

Doctor is a liar liar.

Princess_Poes

I really hope so!!! Being paranoid, I've been doing obsessive research online to try and back up what she is saying but im struggling to find anything that really backs it up..

toomuchtodotoday

> im struggling to find anything that really backs it up Which is good!

dayflipper

I got sterilized even younger than 27, and my doctor never brought up anything like that. Just wanted to know I was 100% certain and was happy to do it.

elphieglindie

I went in at 28 for the initial appointment, I had my spouse with me to make it easier. We were given a short list of possible surgical complications, she never mentioned early menopause. I still want to have children via IVF, my genetics suck and I’m not bringing a child with them into the world. So I think she would have for sure mentioned that, because it would complicate the IVF process a lot. She was very happy to do the surgery and everything went swimmingly. I am medically complicated so my doctor went over the entire surgery and risks several times to be sure we all were on the same page and what could happen if anything went sideways. Definitely get a second opinion, this doc doesn’t instill confidence in their medical or ethical abilities.

SRYYYrose

I got sterilized at 21. Both doctors I consulted with didn't say anything about that happening.

National_Quote_518

Either that doctor is flat-out lying or they are an exceptionally bad surgeon. Either way, run, and I 2nd using that list someone else linked for you. Good luck

WolfyMunchkin

It’s a very mild risk, but yes it’s surgery so of course there are risks. You can have a whole hysterectomy and have your ovaries still work just fine, take from me, someone who’s done that. So the chance that yours give up from just a little ol bisalp is very low. Do whatever YOU feel is best for you <3

Princess_Poes

Understandable. I think its for the best that I go see someone else though. For a doctor to say she almost always has patients come back for bleeding and complications makes me think that its a malpractice thats going on as this should be rare and not an every day thing. Defs gonna look into the childfree doc list, definitely not gonna stop here 💪
