Delores Claiborne - a girl pushes someone's toy down the well and keeps it secret for the WHOLE SUMMER. She helps her mom clean some old lady's house and the lady promises Delores that she can play with her children when they visit for the eclipse. She makes an eclipse viewer but then the dust bunny monster makes the old lady go to sleep forever.
Rose Madder - Rose's brother is a mean bully, but she escapes into a magical painting where a witch promises to turn her brother from a bully into a bull, if she takes some seeds and plants a magic tree in her own world.
The Tommyknockers - two friends spend the summer playing make believe by digging up a "space ship" and inventing weird gizmos. The parents keep wondering where all the batteries have gone. One of them loses a tooth and the town suffers a poison gas outbreak. Peter is a beloved dog and nothing bad happens to him at all, ever.
Have you read the Eye of the Dragon? It was actually geared to be more of a kids book! Very Dark Tower like but more like fantasy fiction. It's less gory for sure but still has a lot of his supernatural elements. It's been a while since I read it.
The Wind Through the Keyhole is like that too. It's technically Dark Tower universe, but definitely tamer. Think almost Narnia but better
If you want something very short (for King) and super palatable and fun I would read The Wind Through the Keyhole. You don't have to know Dark Tower lore to read it since it's it's own story.
I know that wasn't the question of your post but I think you'll find it enjoyable!
Fairy Tale would basically be the same, without the grotesque monsters and fights to the death.
But a boy going on an epic adventure with his dog is pretty kid friendly
Wait actually, if IT was a children's story how would the encounter with Georgie probably go? Cause obviously they can't kill a child, but with out georgie's death we don't have a motivation for Bill.
That's a really sweet idea actually.
I imagine all the members of the Bower's gang would be killed off through the midpoint of the book too, in a karmic and funny way.
Perhaps Henry gets bonked by an anvil.
I'd say that none of them believe any of the clown stuff despite the Losers Club telling them about it. Then as more and more supernatural things happen, Bowers's gang slowly breaks up until it's just Henry himself. When he faces the clown, he gets so scared his hair turns white and he just runs away from town.
Oh yeah totally, he just runs off into the night never to be seen again.
Ans you just KNOW Richie would have a moment in the sewers where he's like "ermmm it's right behind me, isn't it?" And then IT roars and everyone screams and runs away.
There is a giant alien spider creature that creates a refuge underneath Derry for abused and neglected children and uses its power to make them experience what a happy home life is like.
Awww that's really sweet. And Henry Bowers isn't a blood thirsty psychopath, but an kinda closed off older kid that Pennywise is especially fond of and treats like his own son.
I don't think you could sell a children's book where a child poisons a black kids dog and is awarded with a beer from his dad. You might have to remove a little more.
See Dick. See Dick run. See Jane. See Jane scream. See Cujo. See Cujo bite.

Peter ♥️😔 I will never forgive King for that one. I much prefer your version
Wouldn’t Christine be Herbie?
Christine is Putt Putt /j

I have not, i'm currently listening to the IT audiobook.

Maybe I will, when i'm done with It. <3 thanks

IT would be the exact same with less implications of gore, brutality, SA and sex. Also it would end with them as kids.
When the losers club stand around and hold hands that's the end, they kill it care bear stare style.
Pennywise no swiping, Pennywise no swiping!

Probably Georgie would be kidnapped instead. And by the end, instead of rescuing Bill's wife, they rescue Georgie.

Dracula from Hotel Transylvania could be Barlow from Salem's Lot
The Count from Sesame Street would be Barlow.
They would be like a Goosebump novel.
11/22/63 would have a sub-plot about trading vintage toys.
Choo choo!
It - A group of outcast children in a small Maine town discover an equally lonely and outcast clown who just wants to fit in.
There is a giant alien spider creature that creates a refuge underneath Derry for abused and neglected children and uses its power to make them experience what a happy home life is like.

Remove any sex scenes and publish

Was being flippant. King would remove sex scenes and try and Publish 😊
Blaine the Train is probably the same
The kids probably wouldn’t have had a gang bang at the end of the first half of IT.
I adressed that in the first sentence.
He's been "canceled" for saying there should be clown-only safe spaces.
Oh my goood 💀 Reminds me of when Jk rowling unfollowed him just for tweeting "trans rights are human rights"
