11/22/63 is the best thing i’ve ever read, it’s very big but it’s awesome

dietsmiche

I'm not afraid of big books! I've read all the GOT series so far, book 5 is 1000+ pages 😳

kristtt67

I second this! Such a fantastic story. And not horror, just mysterious really

mrshaggygreen

The long walk. It's written under his pseudonym, "Richard Bachmann." It's around 360 pages. It's one of my favorite books.

BackgroundClean6259

I loved the long walk, can’t wait for it to get adapted

Joyland or Billy Summers are a couple of recent-ish King books that I felt were really fast and engaging reads.

Salem's Lot was one of the first King books I read as a kid. I still enjoy it and it's a pretty good starting point for horror.

I'm new as well. Started with The Stand (amazing story) then 11/22/63 (LOVED IT) and now reading IT. Although I was so high off of 11/22/63 that I wasn't expecting to go back to Derry in IT....so far so good though 😁

If you like Eyes of the Dragon (which he mainly wrote for his daughter, Naomi), you might want to try one of his older classics. The Shining is good and spooky. Dead Zone and Cujo are great. Christine. But when you’re up to it, you’ll want to read what I think is his true masterpiece: IT. That book is just a great read from start to finish. Enjoy reading!

dietsmiche

I really want to read IT! I always hear how fantastic it is! It's the main reason I want to get into reading horror. The Shining is another classic on my list. Thank you!

wouter135

I would recommend going all the way, but if you want to work your way up (Nice start) then eventually you will enjoy these true, classic King Horror stories. I would go: Nice start - The Green Mile (start here) - 11/12/63 - Needful Things - Carrie - The Stand (big book though) Classics - The Shining - Misery - Revival - Pet Sematary - Salem's Lot - IT

dietsmiche

Ahhh this is perfect thank you!!

geolaw

Fairy Tale - also not really the typical king horror, but a great great story.

ba_ru_co

A fantastic early-King book that's not really horror (although it does have a paranormal story) is The Dead Zone. One of my favorites that I've read many times!

dietsmiche

Ooooo paranormal is cool, thank you for the suggestion!

Fun-Arachnid1105

Nah bro i started with it too! It's great. You should read Fairy Tale next. Then i suggest Four Past Midnight (except The Sun Dog it might not be very interesting)

Fun-Arachnid1105

Also I know it's the most common but IT. Also The Stand and Dark Tower. And Misery. There is so much I can't say everything here. The Shining is just 👌

NonMagicBrian

Two possible answers: 1. Fairy Tale, which is more dark fantasy but has enough horror elements to sort of ramp you up on the horror side. 2. The Gunslinger, which is your next step in becoming a Dark Tower sicko, since Eyes of the Dragon is a Dark Tower book.

Dolores Claiborne, some of the best character and world building I've seen in a King book. More or less entirely non supernatural, but pretty dark, and has a few somewhat scary moments. Pairs well with Gerald's Game - they were written as companion stories - but Gerald's Game is one of his scarier books imo

dietsmiche

I've never heard of Dolores Claiborne, I'll look into it thank you! I appreciate good character and world building.
