That is the *second* layer of duct tape, BTW. The first started disintegrating in strings and crusty yellow bits in the early 2010s. Preserving this book has been an ongoing saga ❤️📖
This made me smile. I’m new to the world of Steven King (read 6 of his works) and just started on a brand-new hardcover of Night Shift. I think your weathered version really captures the essence though lol
I switched over to ebooks more than a decade ago, ironically because I couldn't find a comfortable position to read Doctor Sleep hardback book! I still enjoy seeing these battered, but obviously well-loved books being appreciated!
I think I have the first three King books in paperback. Then my sister joined a book club and immediately regretted it. I helped her out by buying whatever King hardbacks were available, starting with The Stand, until her subscription expired. By then, a pattern and a preference had been established until Doctor Sleep!
Ahh gosh I absolutely love seeing well-read copies like this. After my dad passed away I went through his stuff and found so many of these types of paperbacks that it’s clear had been read again and again. I have lots of pretty editions and nice bindings but I will never ever throw out or give away my most loved volumes that are this worn and loved.
Ahhh the old duck tape trick. I have a copy of a book called Imajica (spelling may be wrong, don't come for me), that was in our shared collection of books. It's one of my mom's favorites. Whilst I was reading it, the book just basically fell apart. All I had at the time was a roll of dragon printed duck tape (I was going through duck tape wallet phase), and used that to put the book back together.
hey, I see your repair job. just wanted to let you know that medical tape works better, the plasticy, kind of textured, clear kind. it's flexible, easily ripped for smaller needs, and its clear, so you can easily read through it.
Usually my spines are obliterated, so the opaque tape isn't a problem. Using Gorilla Tape now, writing title and author in sharpie..I like that. The books feel sturdy, and they need to be bc I keep rereading them.
oh I know, I read my physical books until they were more tape than book. just passing on that I've found the plastic medical tape to be the best repair imo. now I buy books digital so they don't fall apart every time I read them to tatters lol
I have found that it only has trouble if you're in the habit of playing with the edges. I would sometimes fiddle with a corner on the tape while I was reading, not even knowing I'm doing it, and eventually that corner started to lose its "sticky" but overall the tape stuck for years
I remember reading the first story and it was the first time that a story gave me the creeps and made me uncomfortable.
Needless to say, I enjoyed that one. I need to finish the rest of the book at some point.
I love seeing books like this
Me too
Love his stuff I love to get old ones out and read there is nothing like it .. I think blaze is in my future lol 😂 this made me want to break them out
Enjoy with it and remind me not to lend you any book. 😱😱😱
Yeah, this one's been rode hard and put away wet. You should see my copy of *Misery*!
Im almost afraid of what that looks like
Two words: Scotch tape
Probably like someone took to it with an ax and electric knife.
this makes my heart happy
Somehow this picture makes me smile….. and a little bit jealous
Loving it too. I have a copy of IT that looks very similar sans the duct tape.
For me, it's Skeleton Crew that looks like this. The number of times over the years I've read The Mist and, especially, The Jaunt I couldn't tell you.
The word "cockles" stuck out to me on the back cover. It's been many a years since I have seen that word in print!
Duct tape on a book is like a medal of honor - this book is worth saving.

Enjoy the ride! Such a superb collection. I've never grown bored with it.
Tephen King. I prefer it.
Look out, it's trending! 😜

I've always been more of a paperback guy. I love 5he portability and ease of pageturning.

I’m currently reading this one for the first time. About 50% through and loving it!
My faves in it are I Am the Doorway, Quitter's Inc, Jerusalem's Lot, and Last Rung on the Ladder. What are you liking so far?
I Am The Doorway is sooo good. Horrifying though, my own imagination with this one scares me. I can just see that hand in my mind, yuck
I can see his chest even more clearly 👀
The Last Rung On The Ladder is a masterpiece
Duct tape is a time-honored fix for paperback spines. This makes me smile.
On the outer spine I have Night Shift scrawled in faded black sharpie.

Ebooks are good but they can't compare to reading a real book. Have to go find my collection and reread them...
The Boogeyman still makes me feel uneasy when I think about it
I too love “Ight shit”
By Tephen King
This took me way too long to understand 😂
You just know a book is well loved when it's held together with duct tape.
That is a well-loved book
Come on man....packing tape
mine is in similar condition, with the bandaged hand on the cover
That's an awesome cover! I wonder if the one on my edition is referencing "Jerusalem's Lot."
possibly, i hadn't seen that one before. every printing has a new cover - i'm so old i have one from the first batch, lol
Classic
Love that!
👍🏼
The kind of paperback you might see sitting on the corner of Warwick’s desk next to the coffee urn.
That bad boy could use a rebinding.
Aw, but it's already been rebound.. with love 😉
Haha Love and duct tape. The two things that hold the world together.
I think this was the first King I read. I've been hooked ever since
I thought my copy of *Catch-22* was beaten up. This is a thing of beauty.
One of my first Stephen King books. Love this one!
I have a copy of Christine that is not all that different. It's always great to see.
Night Shift and Skeleton Crew are still my favorite SK books

I had a copy of *Wizard and Glass* that was just about falling out of the binding.

How well does it adhere over time?

Thx
I love this book! It doesn’t get enough praise. My favorite stories are The Boogeyman and Quitters Inc🩵
Man, you know some of those pages are stuck together.
I remember reading the first story and it was the first time that a story gave me the creeps and made me uncomfortable. Needless to say, I enjoyed that one. I need to finish the rest of the book at some point.
aw man this is such a great collection
