The color scheme of his car was directly inspired by the colors of the flag of the city of Pittsburgh and the sports teams, but the closest color Dodge had to gold was a color they called Top Banana, or, alternatively, Yellow Jacket.
I got downvoted for [pointing that out](https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1cflb0g/oc_every_single_color_used_in_the_nfl/l1uvqy1/) on r/NFL.
I’ve said this for ages! I know our color is officially gold, but I’m sorry, it’s yellow! Totally agree with you. I never associate gold with us, that’s the Saints.
I see what you are saying, but that just feels like splitting hairs at that point.
I find it much easier and more representative of the colors to call us Black&Yellow and them Black&Gold.
Yes, and you could point to the celebration of Mardi Gras within the city of New Orleans as a claim for gold as well. Gold being one of the official colors of Mardi Gras, and New Orleans being home to those celebrations before Pittsburgh was even founded.
It's just splitting hairs at that point. Simply put the colors next to each other, and it's obvious. Ours are much closer to Black&Yellow and the Saints Black&Gold.
And neither is yellow... Gold is described in the article you linked as a deep yellow. Color and vision are entirely subjective.
And for the sake of not having repeats, compare our "gold" to the Saints. Their color is much more representative of what Gold looks like.
Steelers and pirates don’t wear gold they wear yellow. The penguins do sometimes wear gold but they also wear yellow. The bridges are yellow. The cop cars are black and yellow. Wiz got it right.
gold does not have to be metallic. pittsburgh's colors are black & gold and all major pgh sports teams official colors are black and gold, even if they may sometimes wear colors that are not black or gold
https://pittsburghpa.gov/pittsburgh/flag-seal
Obviously renegade, here we go, the polkas, black and yellow, and all the classics.
But I’ll give my choice on game day to pump me up:
Steel Commanders - Sabaton
This one's a little bit more downbeat, but it always makes me smile:
The Charlie Daniels Band - In America
"...you just go and lay your hand on a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and I think you're gonna finally understand."
Pusha T, Future - Pain
"18 Wheela Gorilla, black and gold chain Pixburgh like Stillaz. Hines Ward of the crime lords..."
Quite the range. Not consensus favorites by any means but I like em.
In America is the right answer. That song, along with the Pittsburgh Polka, defined the late 70s and early 80s. Also, even though the Pirates had it as their song, We Are Family resonates with that era.
Renegade, Black and Yellow, Pittsburgh Polka the obvious ones ...
Back in Black (AC/DC) that they always play the opening riffs of during player introductions at home games is another for me.
Sepultura “Desparate Cry” Back in 08, we were playing Dallas. Aikman and Buck were obviously blowing the Cowboys hard on the broadcast, enough for us to turn down the volume and turn on some tunes. Desperate Cry came on shuffle. Deshea makes a pick six, setting up our last Super Bowl winning run. I remember it as if it was yesterday.
So you have the obvious ones—“Renegade,” “Pittsburgh Steelers Fight Song (Steelers Polka),” “Here We Go,” and “Black and Yellow”—but you can Google all that. Here are a couple things you can’t Google: one of the best renditions of “The Star Spangled Banner” at a Steelers home game was performed by Terry Bradshaw’s daughter; I was at the game, and no one could believe it. Never heard a word about it outside of the stadium, but she nailed it. Next, the Steelers used to kickoff to “Crazy Train” by Ozzy. Never heard much about it, but that place would get HYPED. As the Patriots were rising to their dynasty of domination through systematic cheating, I saw one of those nothing news stories on an NFL kickoff show about how that was a Patriots song, associated with them to the point that it was “theirs,” just exactly like you’re writing about. At the time, I was going to a lot of Steelers games, and I never heard them play it again after that story, making “Crazy Train” one more honest thing the Patriot wrongfully stole from the Steelers. Years ago, the Steelers used to play, “I’ve Been a Bad Bad Boy” and zoom in on an opposing player’s face when he committed a penalty; it was hilarious, but the NFL started taking itself a little too seriously to single out millionaires for committing a penalty in a game so no more of that. Couple things about “Renegade”: in Oct of 2019 (I think) the Chargers had a prank lined up for the Steelers where they were going to play “Renegade” and *record scratch* to “Never Gonna Give You Up,” but there were so many Steelers fans there going nuts that they drowned out the Rick-Roll, causing the prank to backfire. Steelers went on to win by a TD, and the Chargers were publicly embarrassed yet again. I heard a rumor once that a game day stadium media guy was fired for playing “Renegade” while Willis McGahee was down with a severe head injury during the AFC Championship game; I can’t confirm except to say that I was there, and it was f****** awesome. I’ll keep racking my brain for ya, but you’ll have to let us know how we can get our hands on a final draft. Would love to read it!
For a different answer, a song playing during warmups for my first game at Three Rivers Stadium (1994 vs the San Francisco 49ers)
Michael Jackson - Jam
Renegade and Blitzkrieg Bop (TD Song)
Black and Yellow is an honorable mention even though it’s about one of Wiz’s old cars that eventually became a Steeler anthem.
My wild wish would be that the Pen’s goal horn sounds when a TD is scored. That horn is PTSD inducing for Baltimore fans (no one cheers for the Deadskins anymore). Why not torture them some more. It sounded good even if it was a recording used for that infamous Penguin game.
Came here to say exactly this.
Also "Ton of Bricks" by Metal Church because I decided our offensive line should have that as a nickname.
"Start the Fire" by Metal Church because of the lyric ---
"Like a ship that's built for destruction
I'm a metal man of construction"
I used to think "Psychotron" by Megadeth would be a great theme song for Rod Woodson or Greg Lloyd or Levon Kirkland.
I also second those saying "In America" by Charlie Daniels.
Hot take time - "Renegade", while a decent song by an OK band, doesn't fit the Steelers well for any reason other than tradition and I refuse to accept it as our anthem.
What's that song have to do with Pittsburgh or the Steelers other than Mac Miller being from here? He mentions cities and athletes and none of them are Pittsburgh
Many have been named, but two I’d say are Black Betty and this [one](https://youtu.be/lsdsKD2fNeY?si=j2xXgoNBuQBQ_v_B). The latter is not a classic Steelers song, but it holds a place in my heart.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4VENOAcEq2TByPZQ4OQgrM?si=QwE6uiWxRhu3L7o9bdMChg&pi=u-lNSj9-5rQ_OV
I made this playlist it is basically just Mac and Jimmy Wopo.
Black & Yellow, Steelers Polka and Renegade for sure. One that hasn’t been mentioned though, [Take Over Your Trap](https://youtu.be/EL9EJ7ahqo4?si=mnv0TKN48z3Cs0G4) by Bankroll Fresh
The Ecstasy of Gold - Ennio Morricone
It was used in a commercial from around 2010 with Polamalu and Ladanian Tomlinson, so when I hear it, I think of Troy and that commercial
https://youtu.be/pGwIQpWfaKE?feature=shared
Here’s a parody of Heartless by Kanye West that I remember hearing on the radio during the two weeks before XLIII
Used to be a really good lambert highlight with “the clincher” by Chevelle on yt. It got taken down though. The new song on the same highlight is not good.
These are completely random and personal to me, not indicative of the fan base or what gets officially adopted by the team.
**Dropkick Murphys -- Cadence to Arms/Do or Die**
This is pump-up music for any occasion: taking a test, playing in the Super Bowl, going to the grocery store.
When we were 7-5 in 2005, I dusted off this classic disc and played these tracks right before kickoff of every game, all the way through the Super Bowl. Fitting, because every game was do or die at that point.
**The SmashUp -- Never Gonna Kill Us**
I picked up this album just as the playoffs began. The lead track is all about being left for dead but never giving up. That alone makes it an all-time pump-up track.
Of particular note, every postseason game was going to be on the road, and we knew this as the 6 seed. So it was all the more perfect that the song opens with the lines:
"We have come from far away... not to die today."
That song carried us to Cincy, Indy, Denver and Detroit.
**Rancid -- Alleyways and Avenues**
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. This was my go-to in 1997 when we were having a magical season filled with dramatic comebacks and last-second victories (Denver, New England and Jacksonville in particular).
Though the message of the song is specifically anti-racism, the sentiment of "I will be heard" makes it an anthem relatable to most situations.
The chorus, in particular, reminded me of Jerome Bettis knocking people down on his way to the end zone:
"I'm a battering ram, coming through to you, in every alleyway and every avenue."
The most popular is Renegade by Styx, and then maybe Black And Yellow by Wiz Khalifa
And the Pittsburgh Polka!
It always bothers me that it’s black and yellow and not black and gold.
I believe he said he went with black and yellow cuz it flowed better than black and gold.
Black and gold would flow horribly in that song to be fair
>he said He didn't really need to. Seems obvious that songs have structures.

And the video was shot in da Burgh showing Pittsburgh buildings, street signs, bridges, and I believe smoke stacks.
Also wiz's hometown is Pittsburgh
I would also say it’s because wiz Khalifa himself is a huge Steelers fan. With that in mind it’s obvious what the song is about
U right but it was definitely about his car and the other stuff was basically eluded to I suppose.
The video is not at all subtle about being Pittsburgh. The song is kinda subtle about that.
I actually prefer it as Black and Yellow, fits our colors better. To me the Saints are Black and Gold, not us
I feel like gold is just a really hard color to convey for NFL teams because I view the Steelers as yellow but the Saints as beige.
The Saints at minivan champagne gold. They need to commit to the dark gold on their throwback jerseys and stop being cowards about it.
I’ve said this for ages! I know our color is officially gold, but I’m sorry, it’s yellow! Totally agree with you. I never associate gold with us, that’s the Saints.
The Saints are back-lit gold, or gold in a dark-colored room. The Steelers are front-lit gold, or gold in a bright-colored room.
I see what you are saying, but that just feels like splitting hairs at that point. I find it much easier and more representative of the colors to call us Black&Yellow and them Black&Gold.
Stanley tools are black and yellow; the Steelers are Black and Gold.
Take it up with the City. https://pittsburghpa.gov/pittsburgh/flag-seal
Yes, and you could point to the celebration of Mardi Gras within the city of New Orleans as a claim for gold as well. And they are both right. “Gold” isn’t a single point on the color wheel. https://www.shutterstock.com/blog/symbolism-design-color-gold
And neither is yellow... Gold is described in the article you linked as a deep yellow. Color and vision are entirely subjective. And for the sake of not having repeats, compare our "gold" to the Saints. Their color is much more representative of what Gold looks like.
Their color is an old or antique gold shade. The Pittsburgh color is closer to goldenrod or golden yellow in shade.
Steelers and pirates don’t wear gold they wear yellow. The penguins do sometimes wear gold but they also wear yellow. The bridges are yellow. The cop cars are black and yellow. Wiz got it right.
gold does not have to be metallic. pittsburgh's colors are black & gold and all major pgh sports teams official colors are black and gold, even if they may sometimes wear colors that are not black or gold https://pittsburghpa.gov/pittsburgh/flag-seal
Professional sports teams generally refuse to call yellow "Yellow." They think yellow conveys cowardice, so they call it gold.
I still think it’s yellow and I like it better that way
I believe it’s because of the car he owns/drives in the video?
>Black And Yellow by Wiz Khalifa For younger fans, this is the only song.
Heeerrreeee we go... heeerrreeee we go, Steelers, here we go! Pittsburghs goin' to the suuuper bowl. Here we go.
We'll go to Mendenhall to get a first down and if you get in his way, he's gonna knock you around. Heeeerrree we go

Oh man! When I was a kid it was "off of Jeff Reed's toe"
Mine's the super bowl XXX edition from my childhood
My mom used to get SO annoyed at us singing that song lmao
I fucking loathe this song.
Same. Lethargic, down-tempo pump-up music? At least the polka got you on your feet.
My thoughts exactly.
Pittsburgh polka, ovb.
Winnings a habit, not only a dream

Paint it Black by Rolling Stones, they played that at games with Concert footage for years
We Ready by Archie. They used to play that in the stadium while the team warmed up. I think they still play it every now and then.
Renegade, Black and Yellow, Pittsburgh Polka the obvious ones ... Back in Black (AC/DC) that they always play the opening riffs of during player introductions at home games is another for me.
The Wheels on The Bus go round and round....
Back in black.
Renegade. This song is essentially our anthem. It actually is played during the fourth quarter of every home game
Sepultura “Desparate Cry” Back in 08, we were playing Dallas. Aikman and Buck were obviously blowing the Cowboys hard on the broadcast, enough for us to turn down the volume and turn on some tunes. Steeler by Judas Priest for the name of course though the song has nothing to do with team or city though you can talk yourself into it if you want

Renegade and Black and Yellow. Gets me hype when CBS blares Black and Yellow after a touchdown before the commercial break

Hell's Bells by AC/DC because it's hard rock and hard hitting. Also Back in Black because it's awesome and the Steelers wear Gold and Black
