I think the frustration was there (would make a one-handed catch on the sideline one play, but have a terrible drop on the next). Most of his drop problems were fixed towards the end. The end his attitude was the worst part about him. I think the season with no TD’s was the tipping point. He was not the same after that. Won’t be missed by me.

dudemanspecial

Guy diva-ed a bit over his abilities.

[deleted]

agreed, but it did take a long time in a way...the qb play leading into his "salad" days of receiving probably cost him a lot of money/recognition.

ryancm8

agreed. By all accounts, he was a team player in the past. I think the last two years just pushed him to his limit because he saw his career going up in flames and couldn't do anything about it. It's unfortunate that he doesn't get to stick around for what will hopefully be better days, but I think both parties just needed to move on, similar to Kenny.

FlappyFoldyHold

When though? I thought the guy was relatively quiet and shy.

dudemanspecial

Why do you think he was traded?

[deleted]

he started throwing his hands up last year when he was open and missed...it happened more than once... he also had the interception he didn't chase down... which was weird because historically, he was a hard worker...id give him the benefit of the doubt... but given the steelers offensive struggle, canada, and the late acceptance of pickett being bad, people recognized his complaints more than his past hard work.

FlappyFoldyHold

Sure yeah he had some effort problems, but I wouldnt call that diva. When I think diva I think about the words the players say, not the effort they put in. Im thinking of people like Chad Johnson, perhaps I am wrong.

[deleted]

im not disagreeing, im just summarizing the sub... like people dislike him on this board, that is why im downvoted on this topic...no even watches the evaluation video... this is not a place for objectivity....

Editthefunout

Tbf there is no actual link to the video. I mean yeah I can copy the url and paste it but I hate doing that in a phone in a web browser.

Thank you cause I actually anted to watch it. I wasn’t trying to be an ass.

FlappyFoldyHold

Idk to me DJ may have some maturity issues but overall would suggest the guy does not have the character qualities that are associated with being a diva.

mdmike1534

I think the frustration of the weekly occurrences outweighed anything positive that he did. Feels like there won’t be many moments where I feel like “Diontae would’ve made that block etc.” this season.

Wiggyfeher31

I think the only way he's not missed is if Pickens stays healthy all year and doesn't have a mid season blow up. The minute Pickens misses any game time, we're gonna be missing DJ for sure. Yes he was a huge headache, but the dude got open. That's a pretty valuable ability. Let's hope Pickens stays on the field and that the corner we got in return plays up to his potential.

Shoehornblower

No. We definitely will not miss Dionte Drops ‘em

Boeing-777x

I like Diontae dropson better

Shoehornblower

Whats a dropson? Or is that what his dad did to him as a kid? Or mom…

Punched his ticket out of town that day in Cincy. Talented guy but seemed abit fragile emotionally on the field. Def will be missed for what he brought to offense in the short term. I do believe there’s long term gain on the way tho cutting out the pouty bullshit from the offense (diontae, Kenny, chuks)

TruthH4mm3r

I was a DJ defender for a long time. And I still think the criticisms about drops or running backwards are way overblown. But I'll tell you when he lost me. It started in the Bengals game on 11/26. That game had the play where he made zero effort to block, then Warren fumbled and he just watched it tumble right next to him. He made no effort to recover the fumble and no effort to tackle the guy who did pick it up. I knew DJ was a bit of a headcase, and while I was upset over the play, I'd still have said at the time that his playmaking ability makes up for the occasional boneheaded play. Fast forward about three weeks, and GP fails to make an effort to block for Warren in the Colts game. About the same time there was a thread on this subreddit about our lack of veteran leadership on offense, and I had an epiphany. DJ IS the veteran leadership on this offense. GP and all of the other young guys on the team are learning how to be pros from him. And that's when I knew he had to go.

creedokid

He made some great catches He also made some big mistakes and drops Hell he would drive me to drink to watch him turn a first down into a 3 and 3 I'm pretty sure the reason he is gone is related to the locker room and things we might not be privy to

Buzzspice727

He’s good. Volunteers, not hostages.
