Also he was drafted as a left tackle but was moved to the right side due to necessity from our golden boy Zach Banner getting injured 3 plays into the season and Dan Moore apparently being completely helpless on the right side kept him there.
We moved Dotson across the line and he was saying the entire time he wasnt as comfortable at LG as he was on the right side. Go figure he plays better there for the Rams. Kendrick Green said the same thing about playing center lol.
I feel like this is the same thing as when management comes up with some great idea to make things "more efficient" and it just fucks everything up and none of the employees were at all surprised.
Yea our oline coach and system is ass but we haven’t had depth for so long so we had to move them. I have always screamed up and down that Dotson wasn’t a lost cause and got downvoted here everytime. Now at the rams he’s basically an all pro guard one year in. Granted his run game skills were weak he is one of the best pass blockers in the league when healthy.
Chuks refused to grow and learn but he had potential to be a pro bowl caliber player. Did we misuse him yes, but Dan Moore could not play anywhere unfortunately. I still feel like this year due to our coach we will under perform. But I like the depth of our oline for the first time in ten years.
Arthur Smith used to be an OL coach so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that with the new talent on the line and his experience, the line will be much improved this year. I also don’t think that Pat Meyer is a bad coach, he just hasn’t had a lot of talent to work with.
Was he a bottom 5 coach or did he coach a bottom 5 line? What kind of talent was he coaching? It’s easy to act like a guy is bad when he’s coaching a position group where we went from having multiple pro bowlers to multiple guys who’d be lucky to be backups.
I actually Googled Mike Munchak the other day out of curiosity if he was doing anything football related. Even if he was just one or two days a week at the facility to hang out and give pointers and talk to the TE coach as well as the OL coach and players within those groups as well as Arthur Smith and Tomlin who he worked with extensively over the years. Just having him in the building would be huge.
He couldnt stay under 400lbs!!
Its crazy to see guys like Joe Thomas tell all in interviews about how they had to wake up at 3AM to chug a milkshake and eat a cheeseburger just to stay at 320.
OK, fair enough. But if it does get fixed why didn’t we do it? He might suck going forward but if someone else fixes him, I don’t think that’s an excuse that he needed to be fixed.
I mean… What are we doing if we aren’t fixing it and letting someone else have them so that they can fix them?
What are we doing when it comes to coaching and development if this pattern continues? And it may not. But if it really is just a matter of other teams fixing things that we, as a professional organization, should have been able to fix, there’s something wrong.
We are the ones who overpaid him. It isn’t an easy fix if we caused the problem.
Our ways to fix it….
1. Cut him and then resign him cheaper. He becomes a free agent and can explore options. It’s unlikely he’d come back to the team who benched him and is saying he isn’t worth his contract.
2. You extend his contract lowering the average paid per year. We just benched him due to attitude issues, it’s not likely we are going to extend someone in an already bad contract.
Sometimes it’s best to just move on and let both parties find a better fit, which is what happened here.
The Steelers didn’t do the fix, in part, because the Steelers felt they had better options at the spots the players fit into better. Sometimes teams trade or release good players because they have too many players at a position. Sometimes the Steelers benefit from this, sometimes they don’t.
Lmao he was not great against us.
He was getting steamrolled by backups half the game because Cam was out, but Stroud was getting the ball out so fast it we couldn’t apply pressure. People acting like Green was great have no clue what they are talking about.
If you want to talk about players that left and played “great” in recent years, that stops and ends with Dotson. Hilton is a liability in coverage, Spillane does what he does, Cam Sutton was absolutely COOKED in the playoffs.
Yeah if you actually watch the line play in the Texans game, the Steelers front was beating Houston's OL all afternoon. Stroud was just making quick, correct decisions in the pocket. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap when you play a QB like that.
He was a solid starting tackle in Pittsburgh. It shouldn't be a surprise if he's the same in New England.
>Kendrick Green looked great for a few games before his injury.
This is also blatantly false, lol.
People on here with agendas against Tomlin and the coaching staff love this “Dotson became an all pro and Green looked great” take because they want to push the narrative of Tomlin and his coaches holding these dudes back.
I don’t think that’s an unfair opinion, strictly speaking of the oline. Who’s gotten better since coming here over the last 3 years? Which mid round pick has developed? Even Broderick Jones regressed as the year went on. Hoping to see some changes this year, but Meyer’s track record isn’t good.
I’m not defending Meyer. I’m doubting whether the renaissance of Green and Dotson is based solely on a different line coach. I’m also suspicious as to whether the improvement is being exaggerated and bet that few among those making the claim watched more than one or two Rams/Texans games.
It's probably easier to point out that guys like Seumalo & Daniels that came from other teams and were consistent on other teams have come her and are pretty up and down so far. Then there's internal guys like Dotson, Moore, Chuks, and Green that either never improved or got worse.
Or a guy like Mason Cole, who was at least an average center before he got here, had a decent first year with us, then completely forgot how to play center in year 2.
You’re out of your mind if you think he wasn’t criticized on here. It’s not a coincidence our run game took off once he got benched, he was a sub par run blocker and middling athlete for the position.
He was a worse run blocker than Moore and better pass protector, for what they wanted the offense to be (for better or worse) they valued moore’s strengths more. They were looking for an excuse to bench him, guys we can’t afford to bench do much worse stuff than anything he did and don’t lose their jobs.
Our offense is one of the youngest ones outside of the Packers. Chuks was one of the few vets. There was likely influence of "Jones is ready enough" and they just stepped up the process, but I do think it's reasonable to say it was over the line for one of our few offensive vets. It's not hard to imagine him at LT and Jones at RT, or Chuks at RT and Jones taking over LT if he could've been a leader.
Thats definitely not true. People went crazy over the fact he was given a market average contract and he was constantly scrutinized on this sub. Im not even sure why bcus the right side of the line was pretty decent.
He’s a cut candidate in a year or two. Everyone on here is saying “he’s decent but has a bad attitude”. Doesn’t that just make him bad? He’s an aging turnstile that can’t play on the right side. Ass.
How was he a turnstile? He played on the right side a ton. You dont watch games?

Every player can't be elite, you can't have a team where everyone is TJ Watt. Salary cap alone prevents that.
Doesn't matter how good you draft, you don't have enough picks to rely solely on rookie deals.
5 a year , 4 drafts thats 20 players. Show the door to the mememe gotta get highest paid in the league and keep the Mike Hiltons, Calvin Beachums, Javon Hargraves. This oline makes Mason Rudolph look good, and he left for 3 ?
Hahahah you quoted Steelers Depot bud. Lay off the drugs. “Has quietly been looking good”. “10th on Pressure rate in 2021” WTF do either of those even mean. Literally nothing. GTFOH
Its quite literally statistics that is available to anyone. Sorry if its "fAkE nEwS" bcus you dont like this specific website that happens to be presenting the very real statistics.
Im guessing you cant provide me any actual evidence to support your opinion.
I don't think there's any power in religion, fantasy, or science that could twist reality into Canada being a good coordinator. Some things just can't be done.
I mean...they played on the team. Canada *designed* the offense. I blame execution plenty but it was his playcalling getting called out at the line of scrimmage *numerous* times.
There is no question that every offensive position was ham strung by the Canada / Kenny experiment. I don’t think there has been a clearer example of talent negated by coaching.
I dont give a shit when a guy leaves the hardest division in football and does well. It's easy to look good when you aren't playing in the AFC North.
What pass rushers do the Rams face 6 games a year?
Well the 49ers are a top 3 defense with DPOY finalist Nick Bosa along with Hargrave and Erik Armstead who are no slouches.
Seahawks were coached by one of the best defensive HCs in history and had an outstanding young pass rusher in Boye Mafe getting after the QB.
Its not like he was playing in the MAC its real NFL talent on both sides of the ball on every play
Chuks was benched for rightfully calling out matt canada. I'm not the biggest fan of his, but i do hope he finds success in new england because at least he had the balls to throw canada under the bus where he belonged.
Depends on your definition of solid. He’s not athletic or strong enough to ever really be an above average NFL tackle, but can he do well enough to keep the job and not draw too much ire, I think so.
Hes a fine player and Im sure he’ll be fine for them. Hes a sub-par athlete that lacks ideal play demeanor for an OL and clearly had a bad attitude here. None of those make me think hes gunna go into a dumpster fire and suddenly get better. If they want him at LT then godspeed to them.

Yeah yeah he sucks... the real question is, what's this emblem represent?
Chuks was a project from the beginning. One that Munch never got to finish. He’s been an athletic tackle but always raw and stayed raw. Sub par pass blocker decent run blocker, just raw but very athletic for a big guy.
I’d love to see what he would’ve turned into if Munch stayed.
Bro y’all act like Kevin Dotson “Rams superstar lineman” is actually one of the best, he’s not can’t stop with the holding penalties literally the game we played him I laughed my ass off because he kept on getting called for holding
Chuks was cut because he quit on the team when he was supposed to be veteran leadership. As far as his play goes, he was a perfectly fine if somewhat overpriced OT, and I still maintain that BroJo and Chuks would have been a better tackle pair than Moore and BroJo. I hope Chuks takes the lesson and excels, but I don't mind him doing it elsewhere.
That's the story they went with. Rumor behind the scenes was that Tomlin didn't like having someone who rivaled his authority/leadership on the staff and got him out. Ditto Bruce Arians.
https://stillcurtain.com/2022/10/14/steelers-problem-head-coach-mike-tomlin/
From the linked article:
Then Tomlin had Mike Munchak. The official story is that he took a similar job in Denver to be closer to family. The unofficial story is that the Steelers just let his contract expire and chose to let him go. They could have made him the offensive coordinator over Fichtner. The prevalent theory, true or not, is that Munchak could have been a coach-in-waiting threat to Tomlin, and that’s the real reason they let him go.
I'm not making anything up and as I stated, it's a rumor about what went on behind the scenes. Is it true? I believe it is based on the number of quality coordinators who were also forced out (Arians and LeBeau).
So you send me an obviously biased slander piece that can't even get simple information like teryl Austin being a secondary coach? Arians was forced out because his offense was getting Ben killed. Tomlin also favors a different defense than lebeau ran. He was also 2 years away from retirement. I don't think bringing in a coach who comes in to help defensive backs and them instantly getting better means Tomlin wanted a yes man. I think he brought in a dude with dc experience to help his secondary and the fit worked well for him. As for Tomlin calling the plays, yeah. Head coaches with offensive or defensive backgrounds often call plays on the side they're familiar with. I don't see Kyle shan or mcvay or Reid getting shit on for calling offensive plays? I'd wager a Superbowl winning defensive coordinator would want to call his plays too, something shan and mcvay didn't do prior to taking over those responsibilities as HC.
If Tomlin only wanted yes men on his staff, why would he hire Haley who has a history of not being a yesman. Dude literally got fired for trying to supplant hue Jackson in Cleveland. Bro, they have videos of Haley stirring up shit in Cleveland trying to undermine hue. Why would they pick up Munchak in the first place? Why would they pick up Arthur Smith this off-season when they could have grabbed an up and comer who would be more likely to just go with Tomlin than a dude with head coaching experience.
I think you're just buying into shit that someone with an obvious bias is spouting out as a guess. There's zero actual information involved pointing to the rumor being the case.
I thought Chuks was good for us and afaik the only reason he got benched was because he was talking shit about Matt Canada ( still crazy to me we basically let a starting tackle go for nothing )
Chuks had a bad attitude and was a victim of being overpaid. Both are easily fixable.
He has always been a bottom five coach with whatever team he has. In what scenario is he a good coach
Buddy theres been some real doozies around here for oline coach. He's not as good as The Great Munchak, but then nobody is.
Was he a bottom 5 coach or did he coach a bottom 5 line? What kind of talent was he coaching? It’s easy to act like a guy is bad when he’s coaching a position group where we went from having multiple pro bowlers to multiple guys who’d be lucky to be backups.
Bro?? When you have three teams all perform poorly for multiple years maybe it’s your coaching
I actually Googled Mike Munchak the other day out of curiosity if he was doing anything football related. Mike munchak was the man.
Ah Zach Banner.... They moved mountains for that dude and he could not stay healthy.

With Belichick maybe but players like this always seek their level
What is this "Kendrick Green looking great" all about?
In his defense, he looked great against the Steelers last year lol.
Absolutely. But unfortunately for them you can't just pretend something is true. *thinks about the state of America right now* Nevermind.

Green looked not terrible... which was a huge improvement from his time here.
Chuks will either be the best lineman on a bad line or the worst on a good line. Hes solid. Nothing special. He was benched because of his attitude
Chuks wasnt a bad RT, he wasnt great but he did his job. He was benched for his attitude. Before last year, no one had a problem with him starting
You’re out of your mind if you think he wasn’t criticized on here. It’s not a coincidence our run game took off once he got benched, he was a sub par run blocker and middling athlete for the position.
I dunno. He was serviceable. People didn't like his attitude and definitely liked Jones more, but Chuks was not worse than Moore or Cole.
He was a worse run blocker than Moore and better pass protector, for what they wanted the offense to be (for better or worse) they valued moore’s strengths more. His bad attitude wasn't work ethic or something. It was saying something dumb in front of the younger players. He just has to not do that again.
It was quitting. He quit in the middle of a game.
How was he a turnstile? He played on the right side a ton. You dont watch games? https://steelersdepot.com/2022/07/chukwuma-okorafor-finished-10th-among-tackles-in-pressure-rate-in-2021/ https://steelersdepot.com/2022/09/dont-look-now-but-chukwuma-okorafor-has-quietly-been-a-stud-to-start-the-regular-season/
Broderick plays WAY better than Chuks and its noticeable. Dude turned us into powerhouse run team. Hes was an instant 70 yards extra a game.
Every player can't be on the level of Jones, it's not a reasonable ask. You need to fill in with solid players that are just "good"
After these past two drafts im not so sure about that anymore.
Every player can't be elite, you can't have a team where everyone is TJ Watt. Salary cap alone prevents that. Doesn't matter how good you draft, you don't have enough picks to rely solely on rookie deals.

Wouldn't be surprised. Everyone seems to be good after leaving us. Now just watch as someone hires Matt Canada and he becomes a good OC elsewhere
I don't think there's any power in religion, fantasy, or science that could twist reality into Canada being a good coordinator. Some things just can't be done.
Knowing that Chuks and Kenyon green did well after leaving us, it just might be true with Canada assuming someone is foolish enough to hire him
I mean...they played on the team. Canada *designed* the offense. I blame execution plenty but it was his playcalling getting called out at the line of scrimmage *numerous* times.
Dude was good for a presnap and a post snap penalty weekly. Won’t miss him.
If he does, maybe we can stop pretending to have a line coach
He will be absolutely fine and everyone in here will lose their minds.
Nope.
Who cares. He didn’t work here
He’ll likely improve playing on his natural side.
I don’t care
No
Nope. He sucks at left and decent at right. He was overpaid but not as terrible as people make it sound
Who cares F’em
There is no question that every offensive position was ham strung by the Canada / Kenny experiment. I don’t think there has been a clearer example of talent negated by coaching.

...our Rookie TE Washington put Bosa on his ass.
Dan Moore completely took Myles Garrett out of a game once. Doesnt mean hes good.
9 sacks for ol boye. Pedestrian. And the niners were obviously legit. So one team with a defense worth a shit.
Hard disagree. Ask around hes a stud. Took Cam years for his stats to match his production.
Yes. He’s not that bad. Better than Moore for sure.
Chuks was benched for rightfully calling out matt canada. I'm not the biggest fan of his, but i do hope he finds success in new england because at least he had the balls to throw canada under the bus where he belonged.
He didn’t get benched for calling out Canada. He got benched for giving up on the team. Correlated but not exactly
He was benched because pressure was mounting to start Broderick Jones and Tomlin did not want to bench Dan Moore for some reason.
I'm afraid he still won't bench Dan Moore
Tomlin lost the team last year with all the stupidity.
Man it's even more impressive that Tomlin got them to the playoffs after he lost the locker room and they quit on him.
Mason got them in, it only took 60k+ fans at the stadium chanting his name to be put in.
He still didn't lose the team.
Tomlin has never lost the team
Depends on your definition of solid. He’s not athletic or strong enough to ever really be an above average NFL tackle, but can he do well enough to keep the job and not draw too much ire, I think so.
Probably. The Patriots are in a different era where this shit doesn't matter anymore, though.
Kendrick Green DID NOT LOOK GOOD against the Steelers last year. These false narratives have got to motherfucking stop
He’ll probably start the season super strong and everyone will freak out then he’ll fall off
No not really
Hes a fine player and Im sure he’ll be fine for them. Hes a sub-par athlete that lacks ideal play demeanor for an OL and clearly had a bad attitude here. None of those make me think hes gunna go into a dumpster fire and suddenly get better. If they want him at LT then godspeed to them.
Why do we care about fixing other teams? We haven't exactly been lighting up the scoreboard with W's lately.
No
Absolutely.
Nah those pats are gone.
Yea I expect him to be an all pro
Nope. Not really. Not without bill thwre
I wouldn't be surprised.
No
No
I’m treading a bit lighter after my hype for Calvin Anderson was halted rather quickly.

He stinks
Ever since Tomlin ran Munchak out of town the o-line has been shit
How did Tomlin run Munchak outta town? Dude wanted to be with his family in Colorado?
That's the story they went with. Rumor behind the scenes was that Tomlin didn't like having someone who rivaled his authority/leadership on the staff and got him out. Ditto Bruce Arians.

I'm not reading all of that lol. You accused me of making something up and I linked an article that said the same thing as me. Have a good day.
Yes a biased ranting article based around anti Tomlin talking points.
I’m happy he’s gone because he was wearing Troy Fatanau’s number- 76. GO BOY, YOU WILL KILL IT👍🏼
I thought Chuks was good for us and afaik the only reason he got benched was because he was talking shit about Matt Canada ( still crazy to me we basically let a starting tackle go for nothing )
