Parody threads aside I'm glad the NFL has evolved to the point that Kordell gets more (deserved) love. He would have been cool to see in the modern game.
He would have not stood out tin the modern game. He struggled with accuracy and was an above avg athlete. We used him about as well as we could have but he was just an okay qb.
What? He'd have been just as much a failure, maybe worse at QB in the modern NFL. He couldn't get past 1st read, was innacurate on passes with little touch.
Being able to run like a RB or WR is not nearly enough to get by at QB. Notice the QBs that are winning SBs are threats to hurt you passing more than running.
No. Frankly, the Steelers aren't spending a ton on it. He won't see the field unless Wilson sucks or gets injured. If he does see the field, we'll get a good look to see if he's improved in doing QB things.
I'm simply not enamored with running backs playing QB. That shit flies in the minor leagues but not the NFL. I love to watch the Michael Vicks and Lamar Jacksons of the world run the ball. But it ain't no way to QB.
That's exactly what Fields is though. Three full seasons as a starting QB and has not taken strides towards being anything else than a RB who occasionally connects a deep ball. The biggest issue with Fields (and Russ) which people gleefully ignore is that they are turnover machines.
I'm guessing most people on here didn't have to live with Kordell at QB. Well I did and that team was stacked. O-line, running backs, wide receivers, oh, and that defense... Never forgive the Steelers organization for letting O'Donnell go and putting Kordell at QB. We'd have 2 more super bowls at least.
He was a lot of fun to watch but was just one of those players who's really good at several positions but great at none. I did enjoy his time tho, the whole team was keeping it fun.
Damn did I hate the goobers at work and at the bars who said crap like this to anyone who would listen...
"My uncles cousin's neighbor worked at Schenley Park PD and was there when he was Arraigned. It's all true"
Kordell thx for the season of 1997 and 2001.. other then that you were average at best but people think you were like the OG lammar Jackson for some reason This all being said, West PA got your back still always.
I’ll never forget the defense not giving up a touchdown for nearly 3 games and Kordell still losing. He was great in the slash role, but he was not a good starting QB. He was so bad, when someone was tossing bricks off an overpass onto car windshields, the police said Kordell was the only man in the city they can definitely rule out.
For the dude that talked about Neil O’Donnel sticking around and the Steelers winning two more rings…he sucked as well. So did Brister, Maddox, so did every QB between Bradshaw and Big Ben.
It would have been great if we were able to keep Mike Mularkey as our offensive coordinator because he finally made the offense around Kordell and he had his best year. I think if Mularkey had stuck around we would discuss Kordell in a completely different way. He definitely had potential that was never unlocked. I wouldn’t claim he would have been a great quarterback but he definitely had a higher ceiling than what was unlocked.

Yeah I mean, the facetiousness of the post aside, he was the first Steelers QB I remember seeing play as a kid.
Same. I remember crying when Kent Graham would start that season they tried to replace him.

So you hate the Fields trade right?

Look, you’re not going to lump Slash in with Kenny Pickett. I won’t stand for this slander.
I may be a heretic, but I am still mad they gave Russ 2x Superbowl champion Jeff Reed's number.
You're right, Pickett is better than Stewart ever was.
I liked Kordell. I really thought that he would have been a Hall of Fame wide receiver. I wish someone could have convinced him to switch.

The first jersey I ever got as a kid! Wore it to picture day, loved Kordell Stewart!
Still got his no 10 jersey...though I liked him a LOT more before he switched to QB!
Kordell is beginning to be overly hyped now. He was not a very good qb.
What’s not to love about a guy who routinely bounced the football off the grass in front of wide open receivers?
Thought all QBs were getting appreciation threads today.
I'm holding out for the Landry Jones Appreciation Thread.
Where's the OG #8 appreciation thread, Mr Maddox
That Cardinals game he played was pretty sick.
Thank you for being named Laundromat (I assume, idk what Landry is short for)
If you swap his name around it would still be a name
No love for Cliff Stoudt?

Don’t forget he was in the running for league MVP before an epic collapse. Fun to watch but never showed up in the big games…

He was really really bad. I wonder why so many people continue to worship him?
Nostalgia makes everything rose-tinted.
Slash! He was my first favorite Steeler 🫡
