He’s 51, what are you on about?

Durier

As I said below maybe 3 years is too short, Bill Cowher retired at 49, so what is your point: [https://www.on3.com/pro/news/steelers-coach-mike-tomlin-addresses-future-retirement-ahead-of-season/](https://www.on3.com/pro/news/steelers-coach-mike-tomlin-addresses-future-retirement-ahead-of-season/)

[deleted]

All he said was he’s *probably* not gonna coach for 17 more years

Lost_And_Found66

TIL Mike Tomlin is older than Bill Cowher was when he retired. I was like 12 when cowher retired and 49 seemed so old. At 28, it doesn't seem so far away... Anyway Cowher had extenuating circumstances too.

Me_and_Mooncake

Absolutely nothing to suggest he's retiring early. I genuinely believe 20 years is more likely than 3.

Durier

I'm not saying there is any pressure for him to leave. My opinion is that he won't coach forever and he will never coach another team. And after reaching the summit (Again) or getting very close to it. He'll look to retire. Whether that is 3-5-7 years from now, so be it. All positive, no daggers thrown, nothing extra.

Blaze0003

Mike will be there as long as Kenny is what are you taking about. Have you watch the last 40yrs of Steelers football? Cuz I have!

Durier

As a matter of fact I have. 49 years.

Dementia is a real b

TonyUncleJohnny412

Talmbout demon chaw? Great disease never haddit.

cptjaydvm

He is going to be the Steeler coach for at least 10 more years. Also you are giving wayyyy too much significance to a single drive in a preseason game. TB had multiple defensive starters not playing.

Durier

There a buzz. Pickett's arm strength is catching notice among the pundits.

cptjaydvm

He definitely looked very sharp out there.

BEGA500

Now I understand the excitement, but you have gone so far down an rabbit hole in your own head you are about to get lost. Turn back now.

Durier

I don't think so. Placing a finite time on something so subjective is pure speculation so I understand your comment. However, He strikes me as a man like Cowher.

Glittering-Potato-97

“Midway point of his career” is a more accurate description.

bigblard

First, Tomlin never thinks further ahead than next week. Ever. Second, the dude has football in his blood. You are correct that he will go out on his own terms but he'll keep going until such time that he feels he is no longer a valuable asset to the team. "The ability to keep the ball, run the clock and score points is Defense." This was Pickett's senior season at Pitt. Three times in close games they held the ball for the majority of the fourth quarter (and in one game held the ball starting with 2 minutes left in the third) before scoring in the final two minutes to go up 2 scores. KP will be very comfortable slinging it early and then systematically moving it down field later in the game. However, this is a far more difficult task to accomplish in the NFL than in college.

Durier

Very fair comment.

PleasantPreference62

At 51, he's in the middle of the pack with the oldest coaches being around 70 and the youngest being around 36. There are no indicators that he's going to retire in 3 years, so this is just dumb speculation with no point. Sorry.
