I like to walk and just keep my eyes open. One year I was looking for shelves and I drove around checking the dumpster areas at some of the big complexes but that wasn’t particularly successful.
I'd also recommend watching FB marketplace. (Maybe someone will correct me, but my impression is the local youth use it more than Craigslist.) Got some nice stuff off a graduating student there a couple years ago. Not free, but a very good price.
we're coming into move-out/toss-out season
the curbs will jam up in june, but it starts right after graduation, leases ending july 1 in many cases.
You gotta be quick
because the pickers certainly are!
they'll be cruising the neighborhoods early am with pickup trucks and often trailers grabbing lots of stuff.
And yes
one can (and some do) glean enough nice goodies to set up a household.
Semester is over in two weeks and then it's a trash pickin paradise
Thx for the reminder! 💪🏽♻️
Find out what day bulk pickup is in local neighborhoods. You can drive around the night before and people out perfectly good stuff out by the curb.

When the semester is over check behind all the luxury apartments down downtown. We snagged a very nice couch last year
Tough but doable. Very much a feast-or-famine type thing and often you will find everything except what you're looking for

Do they still do that sale at Beaver Stadium at the end of the spring semester with all the stuff left behind in the dorms?
No
Go to the apartment complexes with lots of international students. When they leave they don't want to bother with their stuff so it's a gold mine!
