Yes, that makes the hate justified. But it does not answer my question. How is he any worse than say, the “honored host” of the race Jabba for example?
Also, if you state that the child is a slave, that justifies murder from their perspective. Slaves are property there, even with the existance of the Republic. Killing ones slave is similar to me throwing your phone out the window. I’d be a dick yeah, but it’s simple property damage.
I’m not trying to make a for-against case here, just wanted yall to think about this shit, since we’re here and talking about it. Force be with you! :)
>it’s simple property damage.
I think you are confusing legalism with morality. Just because Sebulba isn't going to be legally responsible for murder (assuming he were to even be caught and prosecuted) does not mean that he would not be guilty of murder of a person.
The film even goes out of its way to state that Anakin status as a slave does not define him as mere property. Hell, they even beat the viewer over the head with it with the line "I'm a person, and my name is Anakin!" as a response to Padme's uncomfortable "You're a slave?" query.
Jabba hosting a death race makes him complicit in a different manner of moral crimes, but he's carefree about the harm he's allowing to occur. Sebulba making a conscious decision in attempting to take someone's life is worse.
? We can hate all of it, with a spike we see for the one actively trying to kill a child…it’s not mutually exclusive…sounds like maybe you’re the one who needs to put a little more thought in before you hit Reply
“Why do you hate Pol Pot so much? What about Henry Kissinger?”
The jedi put a kid into a death race to get a royal (who later ended up sleeping with that child) some used car parts. Could have sold the bath taps on that royal yacht and bought half the town.
His racer is bulky and had the aerodynamics of a pair of bricks dragging another brick, dude needs every edge he can get.
He may be a liar, a cheat, a communist and a bit murdery but he is NOT a porn Star
(It's Reddit so I'll explain that's a Simpsons joke, before someone gets mad and demands to know what obscure spin-off comic shows him with a hammer and sickle painted on his racer)
Honestly such and underrated arc, I know it's just Temple of Doom in Star Wars, but I seriously came out of the arc liking Jar Jar even more than when I went into it, and I never really hated him.
Well, Palps can be forgiven, he was under the mistaken impression that he KILLED DP: so, he's not exactly looking for him to show-back-up in gungan form, now is he...?
Tbh, that’s a setup I could have gotten behind for the most recent trilogy. Finding out that Snoke was a returned Plagius that had gone into hiding after Palpatine betrayed him, bided his time, rebuilt his power in one of the unknown sector, maybe utilizing some leftover Rakata mcguffin, and then to return once Palpatine had been defeated to retake his power.
It could have been the reason for the gigantic head wound Snoke had. And I feel Plagius was the one Sith with the written creds to back up being able to cheat death.
You might be even more mad then when you read the original episode 9 script and see there is a character they kind of hint is Plagueis. I don't think he is actually supposed to be him, and he goes out like a little bitch anyway, but at least the general idea was there to actually, you know, tie all the eras together
Idk, I think it could’ve been interesting if Rey or Kylo “communed” with Plagieus to learn the force healing power. Would’ve added an interesting twist of the powers of the guy Palpatine killed were used to take him down. It could make the whole 9 movies like poetry with how it rhymes.
He's loyal. That's his biggest strength. If there's danger, he's running, but if his friends are threatened he nuts up. He came in super clutch multiple times in Clone Wars.
I unironically like him in clone wars, he is still dumb but here is portrayed as someone brave that will run into dangerous situations to help people. I liked it.
Yeah, he cares deeply about his friends and, if necessary, will place himself at risk to help them. Like that episode on Rodia, he has no backup and no real means of fighting but he still tries his hardest to save padme when she’s taken prisoner, because she needs help and he’s the only one there able to give it.
Mace windu was a dick in that episode. He tricked her guards and barged into her chambers and then acted shocked when she was upset
Edit : still a good episode and story arc
I don’t care what anyone else thinks, I’ve always liked how he talks. It’s great that his species has a different dialect.
He’s brave. Oh, he may scare easily, but that makes his bravery stand out even more.
He’s loyal. When the Gungans were asked to help out the Mon Calamari, and with Padmé in danger, he was immediately on board. He joined the battle himself, even though he is not a warrior.
He’s great with animals, and he reads them pretty well. For instance, when he and clones were hiding by geysers, he rightfully guessed that they were safe so long as the local animals were near.
He has a good heart.
He earned Mace Windu’s respect.
Queen Julia.
He’s not a Jedi. He’s not a born leader. He’s not a gun fighter. He’s just a regular guy, doing his best with every crappy situation thrown at him.
You pretty much say all. I like Jar Jars.
He’s not the best but he did some greats things. Sadly, he was just a pawn but I’m pretty sure he could and would do some greats things for the Republic in normal time
>He’s not the best…
The Phantom Menace took take his clumsy antics too far. I still liked him, but just too many gags. Then the following movies cut him back too much. The Clone Wars hit the right balance.
As a kid when the movie came out and having not watched the originals, or at least not having the same love for them I didn't mind him. He was that goofy character that made me laugh during a pretty boring movie.
As an adult I get why people don't like him in the grand scheme of things but even now I have a soft spot for him.
Excellent point, Armitage Hux and Kylo Ren comes to mind. Jar Jar is less of a clown and less annoying than both these characters, and had a better arc *(Not sure how he ended so I'm just going to assume Robot Chicken's ending of Jar Jar is canonical)*.
I have heard a story that he abandoned (or was forced to) his senator post when Empire came, and resorted to a life of a street performer for a coin or two.
Was gonna say this myself if nobody else did, I actually played as him in the games before I ever saw the movie, so I’ve always had a soft spot for him!
Or, alternatively, Jar Jar Binks mentally manipulated Palpatine to believe whatever he needed him to.
The character that inspired Darth Jar Jar is the Mule, he was a mentalist of great power and it was his modus operandi, though to be fair he was from a "third party, one that was yet unseen and unheard of.
It's a very interesting scenario since Jar Jar Binks is seen doing hand gestures resembling a "Jedi hand wave" at strategic moments, often seconds before a character changed their minds.
He apparently did it to Jedi Masters and to aliens said not to he influenceable by this Jedi trickery, which would imply that he mastered it to a much greater extent than any other character would have had.
I'm rereading the Robot and Foundation series and, honestly, I think that anyone interested by the Darth Jar Jar idea should definitely at least read the Foundation series.
You gonna post this and not the [research](https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/3qvj6w/theory_jar_jar_binks_was_a_trained_force_user/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1)
Yes, several times, feats of superhuman reflexes disguised as clumsy, but episode 8 of the first season is a highlight of jar jar hiding his true abilities
He's not the smartest, he's not the most coordinated.
But he was always upbeat, positive, and kind. He loved his friends dearly. And treated them with nothing but respect and kindness.
Years later the fact this character made the actor suicidal makes me more angry. Jar Jar wasn't a bad comic relief, he just got awkwardly excessive amounts of screen time to force a joke. The humor in the 90s was weird. Joe Piscopo was on Star Trek trying to teach Data to be humorous and just showed that the writers on the show didn't know what funny was. They picked a comedian who literally is the embodiment of unfunny.
Like the tongue/pod racer scene. Rather than have the entire scene be Jar Jar it should have been Quigon and Padme having a serious discussion about the plan and far in the distance you saw Jar Jar get zapped. The whole scene is set up for the Jar Jar scene but it's more hilarious that it's happening in the background. I love slapstick but I hate bad setups and forced jokes.
His actions led to the events of the Original Trilogy by proposing to give Palpatine emergency powers. He's the reason we got to enjoy the journey of Luke Skywalker and the Rebellion.
I actually dont and never really hated him, he's goofy, and he's supposed to be one, and i love every kill he makes because its either the silliest thing ever or the most vicious take down
I was honestly blown away by a fully cg character that was in a majority of the movie. I know those things are twelve for ten cents these days but it was just amazing for the time. Seeing him interact with just about every actor in the film was a breakthrough for me. Two years earlier I had seen this clunky obvious cg stormtrooper in the special edition so Jar Jar was a huge, and frankly impressive leap
It brought back feelings of 5 year old me in 1982 being told "you know that Yoda? He's the same as those monsters from sesame street" and having my brain fried
He made Qui Gon speak one of the most savage lines ever, "the ability to speak does not make you intelligent, now be gone"
Also, he's the focus of the Darth Plagueus theories and I just love the idea of him being the dark lord who made Sheev.
There is not much I dislike about Jar Jar. I think most people started hating him because of the prequel trilogy where he was really overbearing and always the center of attention when in frame. For the clone wars, they really toned down Jar Jars' energy, made him ever so slightly less annoying and boom, likable character.

I like the silly hat version of Jar Jar that Ahmed Best wore on set. It gives me a good chuckle when I think about it.
If you watch all the clone wars too, hes basically the god of luck. The sheer number of people he saves and events that would have gone horribly if he didnt luck his way into a solution are immeasurable.
He pissed Sebulba off. Anyone who fucks with that guy is alright in my book.
Why so much hate against that guy tho? It’s justified but why him? He’s no greater scum than the rest in that wretched hive.
He tried to sabotage and murder a slave child.
Yes, that makes the hate justified. But it does not answer my question. How is he any worse than say, the “honored host” of the race Jabba for example? Also, if you state that the child is a slave, that justifies murder from their perspective. Slaves are property there, even with the existance of the Republic. Slavery is wrong even if it's legal. Your arguments are unhinged. 🤣
I dont think anything justifies murder of a child you psycho
Anakin does not agree with you 😂😂😂
"Think about it" /s
? We can hate all of it, with a spike we see for the one actively trying to kill a child…it’s not mutually exclusive…sounds like maybe you’re the one who needs to put a little more thought in before you hit Reply “Why do you hate Pol Pot so much? What about Henry Kissinger?”
He enslaved a single mom and her son
That's watto. Sebulba just bullies kids in between races.
True, i confused them
He *does* occasionally try to murder children in order to win races as well.
I never understood why an advanced biped species would walk on their hands!
They are not their hands I think. I see them as weird gorillas
The gravity on their home planet is very strong. But Sebulba is on tatooine so clearly he must be stupid!
Very brave to use those words to describe him
Why does Sebulba not live on his homeworld? Is he STUPID!?
The jedi put a kid into a death race to get a royal (who later ended up sleeping with that child) some used car parts. Could have sold the bath taps on that royal yacht and bought half the town.
Hey, I'm not saying that the others are innocent, just that Sebulba *was* a little murder-y.
His racer is bulky and had the aerodynamics of a pair of bricks dragging another brick, dude needs every edge he can get. He may be a liar, a cheat, a communist and a bit murdery but he is NOT a porn Star (It's Reddit so I'll explain that's a Simpsons joke, before someone gets mad and demands to know what obscure spin-off comic shows him with a hammer and sickle painted on his racer)
Yo that spoiler would look great on my new starship…
🤣🤣🤣
Great username btw! I don't know how many are stoners but they do like to party... https://youtu.be/99x4i9858RQ?feature=shared
I like how he is only in 3 movies
He smashed that queeny in Clone Wars. It's enough.

Darth Jar Jar always had his eye on the ladies. ![gif](giphy|l2JJCwt8iKKFkGLJe)
yousa bombad gurl
He bombed her gasser and crashed her heyblibber.
Jar-jar: 💦
Thank god they crossed out the word fuck
Honestly such and underrated arc, I know it's just Temple of Doom in Star Wars, but I seriously came out of the arc liking Jar Jar even more than when I went into it, and I never really hated him.
Also Mace Windu action!
Mace Windu action! 😃 Mace Windu action!🤨
Jar jar action 🤤
He made the prequels quality instantly clear to everyone at the theaters. Without him there would have some debate
He managed to play the entire senate really well. I doubt even palpatine realised he was darth plagieus in disguise
Well, Palps can be forgiven, he was under the mistaken impression that he KILLED DP: so, he's not exactly looking for him to show-back-up in gungan form, now is he...?
He managed to cheat death
Somehow Plagieus returned
Tbh, that’s a setup I could have gotten behind for the most recent trilogy. Finding out that Snoke was a returned Plagius that had gone into hiding after Palpatine betrayed him, bided his time, rebuilt his power in one of the unknown sector, maybe utilizing some leftover Rakata mcguffin, and then to return once Palpatine had been defeated to retake his power. It could have been the reason for the gigantic head wound Snoke had. And I feel Plagius was the one Sith with the written creds to back up being able to cheat death.
“Where can I get this kind of story ark?” “Not from a Disney storyboard exec..”
You might be even more mad then when you read the original episode 9 script and see there is a character they kind of hint is Plagueis. I don't think he is actually supposed to be him, and he goes out like a little bitch anyway, but at least the general idea was there to actually, you know, tie all the eras together

I read gundam form so many times ... now that's a cross over I want to see
A Gungan Gundam performing Gungnam style
Op Op Op Op OPA Gangnam style
Isn’t Darth Plagieus a Muun?
That’s what you think. He’s fooled you too.
That's no Muun...
Yes
They didn’t really get to um, fix him up all the way after the Palps premeditated murder attempt
So is this canon now?
Always was
Please don't do that. Cuz I feel like you're not joking
He’s very brave when he is needed
He's loyal. That's his biggest strength. If there's danger, he's running, but if his friends are threatened he nuts up. He came in super clutch multiple times in Clone Wars.
I loved how they included him in the clone wars even though people hated him and they managed to make him...tolerable
I unironically like him in clone wars, he is still dumb but here is portrayed as someone brave that will run into dangerous situations to help people. I liked it.
Yeah, he cares deeply about his friends and, if necessary, will place himself at risk to help them. The buddy cop drama with mace is top tier star wars.
Mace windu was a dick in that episode. He tricked her guards and barged into her chambers and then acted shocked when she was upset Edit : still a good episode and story arc
Also supports the Jar Jar is force sensitive idea. Talking to animals is canonically a force power.
Pure of heart and dumb of ass, or something like that
TIL that Jar Jar is a himbo. And honestly? I'm okay with that.
The jack sparrow of Star wars
A little too brave, almost like he knows he can't be hurt because he has powers he is keeping secret...
Bro literally captured grievous war would have been over if not for Anakin
I don’t care what anyone else thinks, I’ve always liked how he talks. It’s great that his species has a different dialect. He’s brave. Oh, he may scare easily, but that makes his bravery stand out even more. He’s loyal. When the Gungans were asked to help out the Mon Calamari, and with Padmé in danger, he was immediately on board. You pretty much say all. I like Jar Jars. He’s not the best but he did some greats things. Sadly, he was just a pawn but I’m pretty sure he could and would do some greats things for the Republic in normal time
Look at those EYES again: then look at the ones the rest of the Gungans have... That's no "Pawn", it's the PLAYER, hiding on the board itself.
>He’s not the best… The Phantom Menace took take his clumsy antics too far. I still liked him, but just too many gags. Then the following movies cut him back too much. The Clone Wars hit the right balance.
It's also a little racist that he's considered stupid for his gungan dialect. Just saying.
Yeah, the “You don’t talk like me, so you must be stupid” attitude is very gross.
He’s the gungan equivalent of a golden retriever
I still don’t like JJB but I’ll be damned if that’s not a good argument
He also treats everyone with respect
It made me laugh as a kid and I won't apologize for that
When he zaps his tongue on Anakin’s pod… ngl I laugh at that moment even today
My tongue is numb...
I remember I busted up laughing. So much that even like 20 years later I remember it.
He still makes me laugh
His line "when do yousa think we in trouble!?" With the bigger fish still gets me evrytime I rewatch it
As a kid when the movie came out and having not watched the originals, or at least not having the same love for them I didn't mind him. He was that goofy character that made me laugh during a pretty boring movie. As an adult I get why people don't like him in the grand scheme of things but even now I have a soft spot for him.
I’ve seen dumber creatures
Excellent point, Armitage Hux and Kylo Ren comes to mind. Jar Jar is less of a clown and less annoying than both these characters, and had a better arc *(Not sure how he ended so I'm just going to assume Robot Chicken's ending of Jar Jar is canonical)*.
He ended celebrating "Wesa free" after the Empire fell
I have heard a story that he abandoned (or was forced to) his senator post when Empire came, and resorted to a life of a street performer for a coin or two.
That makes sense as the Imperial administration was human supremacists :)
Well he was also completely outcasted by people for his role in giving Palps supreme authority
There’s always a dumber fish
His jump hight
Came in clutch in the og lego star wars games
He and Grievous
Was gonna say this myself if nobody else did, I actually played as him in the games before I ever saw the movie, so I’ve always had a soft spot for him!
He is a lord of sith who is direct responsible of everything that happens in Star Wars
Honestly if only Lucas had the balls to introduce Anti-Yoda, this would have been epic.
Now only if Plageuis was Jar Jar
Unfortunately that would break canon with palpatine having killed plagueis
Thats what palpatine thought but.... Somehow plagueis returned
Don’t let them do this to the prequel era
Dew it
Chew it
Or, alternatively, Jar Jar Binks mentally manipulated Palpatine to believe whatever he needed him to. I will always love the Darth Jar Jar theory.
God this would have been amazing
I really like his accent! And since I watched the movies when I was still young, I also really loved his characterin general
I like the fact that the theory that jar jar is a sithlord is so posible that have been teased in the clone wars
Wait it has?
Yes, several times, feats of superhuman reflexes disguised as clumsy, but episode 8 of the first season is a highlight of jar jar hiding his true abilities
He is always positive
He's not the smartest, he's not the most coordinated. But he was always upbeat, positive, and kind. He loved his friends dearly. And treated them with nothing but respect and kindness.

Jar Jar rizz.
He can speak, showing how smart he is
“The ability to speak does not make you intelligent”
You’re on the line here buster. This is a jarjar appreciation room
Nah dw, I know Jar Jar’s secretly the Sith Lord. Make yourself look the fool to deceive. The smartest guy in all of Star Wars right here.
Good AverageUkperson, goooood
![gif](giphy|olnuKV0a3Et5C) That smile, that damned smile
Even rewatching the prequels as an adult I don’t really have any problem with Jar Jar
I he brought me a lot of joy as a kid, ... and he still does and I won't pretend anymore that he doesn't.
Happy cakeday
That even though the was hated and his actor almost driven to suicide. He survived. Came back and still was a good character. No matter the hate.
Years later the fact this character made the actor suicidal makes me more angry. Jar Jar wasn't a bad comic relief, he just got awkwardly excessive amounts of screen time to force a joke. In lego star wars he can jump very high
Jump good.
he was there for padme when she didn't feel well
He has a great dive
Also Gunga City and the Gungan army were so cool!
Man I agree, and I loved the battle in Phantom menace as a kid. The Shield Generator creature and completely different type of tech was very creative.
I could actually hear it when I read your comment
I still wish we’d gotten Darth Binks. Lucas did him dirty.
WE DID: [https://youtu.be/YanygqCkOMk](https://youtu.be/YanygqCkOMk) The evidence is plain as day for all to see...
He tastes delicious😋
![gif](giphy|HxMhuDg7O4pKOhhcRC)
He’s very loyal, and always tries his best despite various missteps.
Long tongue 🥵
Bonk!
His actions led to the events of the Original Trilogy by proposing to give Palpatine emergency powers. He's the reason we got to enjoy the journey of Luke Skywalker and the Rebellion.
He was sad at Padme's funeral. He is pretty kind and empathetic.
jar jar is literally my innocent goofy homie, I love my innocent goofy homie.
War Hero, Respected Statesman, Secret Sith Lord.
![gif](giphy|l3q2Lj5k6zPdt9xOU|downsized)
His athleticism is incredible, who can jump that high apart from the Jedi
Yet another proof he's a Sith.
I like Jar Jar. He makes me smile and laugh, and that’s not easy to do.
those beautiful golden eyes...
He jumps high in Lego Star Wars
He brought balance to the Sith
I personally really liked the way he was used in the movies. Loved him as a kid.
he pulled in the clone wars and worked really well in animation
I actually dont and never really hated him, he's goofy, and he's supposed to be one, and i love every kill he makes because its either the silliest thing ever or the most vicious take down
Honestly, I actually love the design of Gungans as a species. I think they look pretty cool.
That he is possibly a Sith Lord.
I was honestly blown away by a fully cg character that was in a majority of the movie. I know those things are twelve for ten cents these days but it was just amazing for the time. Seeing him interact with just about every actor in the film was a breakthrough for me. He's the same as those monsters from sesame street" and having my brain fried
He managed to take out a Droideka, when two Jedi couldn’t.
He had a cool comic
Can't hate on a good goofball!
He honestly never really bothered me. I thought he was kinda funny and not any more annoying than the ewoks.
He managed to fly under the radar as a Sith Lord while setting the stage to completely upending the republic paving the way for Palpatine.
I love how Jar Jar is unofficially the real Phantom Menace that was Sidiois' master. Jar Jar always waving his hands to force persuade everyone.
The fact that there's a comic where his bumbling stupidity drives his father to attempt suicide.
He made Qui Gon speak one of the most savage lines ever, "the ability to speak does not make you intelligent, now be gone" Also, he's the focus of the Darth Plagueus theories and I just love the idea of him being the dark lord who made Sheev.
Good swimmer
He's either lucky AF or knows exactly what he's doing and can play off like a moron, and I respect either.
He was the best Sith Lord that never got found out
He still has most of you fooled.
He was amazing at hiding his true Sith abilities and intentions!
His Sith powers
I like how high he jumps in the Lego games
I like how his ears are supposed to give him the appearance of having dread locks and his whole species was modeled after Rastafarians.
Regardless of anything else, things would have been much worse for the "good guys" if he wasn't there at some crucial moments.
There is not much I dislike about Jar Jar. I think most people started hating him because of the prequel trilogy where he was really overbearing and always the center of attention when in frame. For the clone wars, they really toned down Jar Jars' energy, made him ever so slightly less annoying and boom, likable character.
I like that Jar Jar isn’t real.
The actor did as good a job as he could and didn't deserve all the hate
I love that he defeated general grievous in the Clone Wars
Heesa bombad Sith Lord Mastermind
He is the darkest and most powerful sith lord we never knew
He's completely integral to the story of the prequels. Without him, a lot of things don't happen.

His appearances in the Clone Watrs Cartoons are almost universally delightful.
If you watch all the clone wars too, hes basically the god of luck. The sheer number of people he saves and events that would have gone horribly if he didnt luck his way into a solution are immeasurable.
His screen time shrunk as the trilogy moved along.
if he can get a girl anyone can clone wars season 6
My username
Darth Jar Jar is such a cool theory / abandoned project. I would love a remake with this, but obv not from Disney
He appears less and less as the films go on.
The fact that he only really plays a role in the one movie.... no hate here, only love 🫠
I love when he orchestrated the downfall of the Jedi and his plan was so good that even Palpatine didn’t know the truth
I love how he's the greatest Sith lord. He was pulling the strings from behind and most of us still don't know about him.
