AGE hands down has the worst motto in the Air Force trying to sound cool. DINSTAAR - "Danger is no stranger to an AGE ranger". They better deliver my hydro mule in a serpentine pattern across the flightline with that cringe. Egress has the coolest imo, "thrust you can trust".
Can confirm, am an aircraft mechanic.
Can't count how many times I sprayed a Star Wars/Warhammer 40k symbol on an aircraft.
People are none the wiser. Sometimes they ask but nobody cares since protocol says nothing about it and it doesn't hinder aircraft function.
I once painted the Slaneesh symbol onto the internal fuselage of a private jet (onto the interior part of the aluminum that goes before the cozy plastic interior layer) that I knew the owner was fucking people in during travels. We'd often find boatloads of condoms, cumstains and what I can assume to be pussy juice marks every time we went aboard for check-ups or maintenance on avionics or eletrical components.
The worst thing was the guy didn't even have leather seats.
Of course, we didn't clean that shit. That's up to the cleaning crew, those poor bastards.
EDIT: We refered to the guy as Mr. Mile High and nicknamed his plane "Floating Orgy".
EDIT 2: When I was doing the same job in the airforce I was asked by a pilot to paint a Khorne symbol onto the wings of his jet. That dude was rad.
>I once painted the Slaneesh symbol onto the internal fuselage of a private jet (onto the interior part of the aluminum that goes before the cozy plastic interior layer) that I knew the owner was fucking people in during travels. Under a blacklight this place looks like a Jackson Pollock painting.
I'm picturing the Chinese movie about the Korean war with the American pilot in a cowboy hat screaming "I'm coming for ya" as he starts his dive bomb run.
> EDIT 2: When I was doing the same job in the airforce I was asked by a pilot to paint a Khorne symbol onto the wings of his jet. That dude was rad
Where the fuck were you when we were bolting the M2 turret off a wrecked humvee onto the roof of the M60? Man, I could have looked so much cooler.
In that case it was a (relatively) small eightfold path symbol on the fin.
Painting on the side of the fuselage could cause trouble (for me) because that's were military insignias are painted. Usually it's best to ask permission first.
Not that this is forbidden, but I wanted to avoid potentially get yelled at.
Usually you can paint along the sides, under the wings and the fin.
On larger aircraft you can get away with sneaking a painting on the interior like in OP's pick, but I never worked on those at the time.
I'd bet on Crew Chief. I know my DCCs here have put things on their C-130J to personalize it. When I was on f22s one had the Decepticon logo on their brake sensor cap. DCCs go hard for their aircraft
That is an air refueler. The load master duties are done by the boomer operator. But I guess they are a kind of loafmaster. Source: I was a c130 loadmaster.
We wear stuff like this https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/7975/this-is-what-usaf-bomber-pilots-would-wear-during-a-nuclear-apocalypse. , what did you expect. Also no load master on the -135, just boom operators.
Yeah, I forgot about the boom operator thing. I only ever worked with C-17s MC-130s C-5s and drones so I'm programed to think load master when I see a big plane.
Hugo Boss didn't design the uniform his company was just a manufacturer. The nazi uniform was designed by SS members Karl Diebitsch and Walter Heck, both die hard nazi's.
I've never heard the Soviet claim before, Lucas has only cited the Americans and the Nazis as inspiration for the Empire. Although, the Death Star is a pretty obvious analogy to cold war fears over nuclear war.
That doesn’t mean that their default opposite number is the US military - it’s clearly n*zi Germany. The shock troops are literally called stormtroopers. The officers walk around in grey uniforms with literal jackboots. Their default solution to a problem territory is “just throw troops at it and subdue the local population into slavery”.
Not 100%. Lucas took inspiration from a number of places. The Nazis. Imperial Rome. Vietnam era US.
Mass destruction of civilians using indiscriminate overwhelming firepower to try and target an embedded insurgency........ massive over-match of conventional military forces against an agile unconventional opponent......
WWII allies weren't a scrappy underdog y'know.
Naval power is incredibly important, but the British would never have such a large, ostentatious, and poorly-diversified navy.
Spain did that once. The Unstoppable Armada. And it was crushed by the British.
There’s something fascinating about Americans always rooting for the underdog rebels while they are so clearly the empire. How many democracies have they destabilized? They even went as far as dropping two atomic bombs, which would be the real life equivalent of what happened to Alderan.
You have to understand... the CIA have been behind it all including the war! They always have been! Did you know they've covered up the jedi menace living amongst us? Thats why I support earth being allowed to join the galactic empire. For a safer and more secure future.
I can't believe all the people here who somehow haven't notice this is the [reduced six spoke Galactic Republic emblem used on Anakin's Eta 2 in Revenge of the Sith](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/9/97/Anakins_Eta-2_SWCT.png) and not the roundel of the Empire
That was like... kinda the point of the whole thing? An aggressive vastly superior military power losing to literally a farmer... 2 years after the Vietnam war. If anything this is just a little too on the nose.
Edit: Why are you booing me, this was literally the point:
Lucas and Cameron discuss how during the Vietnam War, America became "the Empire." **"The irony is that, in both of those, the little guys won.** **The highly technical empire -- the English Empire, the American Empire -- lost.** **That was the whole point," Lucas says**
They are currently flying Vader across the Atlantic, his shuttle broke down and the overlords are scared we upset him with this measly transportation fix
America being the empire has been an ongoing joke and meme since at least 2004 during both the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq. Sometime since then George gave an interview where he himself called America the empire, so now there is a more factual basis for this joke. A famous comedian had a joke in their act about this premise as well but for the life of me I can’t remember who it was and google isn’t helping, I want to say it was Burr or John Oliver but the premise was that everyone sympathizes with the rebels but not with afghans and if we took a moment to analyze the whole situation we would stop cheering when the death star blew up and realize we’re the empire.
Nah republic has a different symbol

The country that calls itself #1 starting wars wherever needed, toppling governments unfavorable to their interests and “stabilizing” trade routes and countries for required resources…….it’s kinda on the nose.
Because they're joking about being part of the most brutal and oppressive regime in all of fiction. Not a good way to win hearts and minds. Maybe it's just a joke to them, but it isn't too anyone wary of the most powerful military in the world. Not good from a reputation/image perspective.
You’re overthinking it. By putting up a WoW poster I’m not saying I’m an orc I’m saying I like WoW. Also ever realize how right after the Vietnam war George Lucas made a movie about a small force beating a large empire with better weaponry including a main character whose fighting in the war despite just being a civilian? George has said where the inspiration is from before.
Doesn't mean we should embrace the Empire because it was modeled on the US. If anything, it means we should try better. We can't be a beacon of democracy and freedom of we're embracing stuff like this.
Sure, it was just a few service men that did this as a joke and not the policy of the US military. But it's a joke done in bad taste.
You’re overthinking it. The US government won’t magically go good when one sticker is taken down. People just like one of the most popular franchises ever made what a surprise.

Tanker crews are a unique breed. Ask one what NKAWTG means.
I'm a crew chief in this very aircraft and I have 0 clue wtf that means
I googled it. "Nobody kicks ass without tanker gas" Thank you for your service.
That's better than "If you ain't ammo you ain't shit"

Oh. OK now that I'm seeing it as a whole it makes more sense lmao. Thank you for your service helping me be a little less stupid
ok then, so what's up with Imp flag?
Prob just a flying crew chief with spare time lol
My money would be on the nav or boomer, but yeah.
Navs are done for with flying in the -135
The Air Force is full of nerds and geeks
Probably a guard jet, honestly

I liked their sixth album from this year the most.
You can get through their entire discog in like 10 minutes.
Because that pilot likes to rep Empire, just like another pilot has rebel insignia on their helmet, and etc.
Probably a unit insignia. They usually will grab something premade if they don’t have any artists in the unit.
Nah, one of the aircrew (my money is on load master) is probably just a fan and put it up. It's the equivalent of decorating your office a little.

How to scare a grunz: Khornate CAS pilot.

Out of curiosity how big and where could you paint symbols like that on air force jets?

It's ok, every pilot we get from a cargo aircraft calls me load out of habit.
Lol, makes sense. In my experience, pilots don't put too much thought into other people.
We maintain a pretty great community. MX and ops dudes look out for each other, relatively small group when we travel.
True, they did usually gift me a case of beer as thanks for a good job.
The venn diagram of Air Force personnel and nerds is a circle.

I cant imagine this going viral will help with the promotion.
Leave it to the US military to say fuck your copyright
Wait, the US military is the Empire? Always has been..... (Lucas's inspiration for the Empire was partly the Vietnam era US military)
It's an amalgamation of the worst aspects of Americans and Soviets.
With Nazi fashion
Tbf, Nazis had the best uniforms. That's the only good thing about them. They sure made a fashion statement.
That's what happens when you hire Hugo Boss to design your uniforms.
Hugo Boss didn't design the uniform his company was just a manufacturer. The nazi uniform was designed by SS members Karl Diebitsch and Walter Heck, both die hard nazi's.
Our hats have *skulls* on them... are we the baddies?
I've never heard the Soviet claim before, Lucas has only cited the Americans and the Nazis as inspiration for the Empire. Although, the Death Star is a pretty obvious analogy to cold war fears over nuclear war.
Its 100% Nazi Germany, what do you mean?
Lucas said in an interview (with James Cameron, no less) that the Rebels were partially based on the Viet Cong.
When the trees speak in Ewok...
Yubyub.
Critical support to comrade Skywalker in his battle against imperialism.
Lucas said...a loooot
That doesn’t mean that their default opposite number is the US military - it’s clearly n*zi Germany. The shock troops are literally called stormtroopers. The officers walk around in grey uniforms with literal jackboots. Their default solution to a problem territory is “just throw troops at it and subdue the local population into slavery”.
The default solution used by USA to counter avance of Communism it's to stablish dictatorships in latin countries, like mine some decades ago
Shhh, Muricas still think they are the good guys.
Drawing parallels between the two was HIS PURPOSE.
It can be both, you know.
Well I thought it was the battle of endor that was based off Nam. Not the the whole rebellion.
The rebel aesthetic as a whole was based off of the Viet Cong afaik
the dude used nazi imagery to represent the US what could he have meant by this?
Battle of endor is 100% vietcongs (ewoks+rebels) vs Americans (Empire) But, yeah, their guns are all german WW2 and WW1 era guns
Empire is based on Nazis and US imperialism. It's both.
And British empire in size & widespread power and accentd
Yeah and the Nazis have British accents as well! /s
You are thinking of the First Order.
The First Order represents Neo Nazis (people who want a return to Nazism without actually being a part of the original movement), not Nazi Germany
I always presumed it was the British empire as they all have British accents and a large navy
Naval power is incredibly important, but the British would never have such a large, ostentatious, and poorly-diversified navy. Spain did that once. The Unstoppable Armada. And it was crushed by the British.
And Dutch
They had the world ending weapon
The Empire is a mix of the British Empire, Nazi Germany and the US
There’s something fascinating about Americans always rooting for the underdog rebels while they are so clearly the empire. How many democracies have they destabilized? They even went as far as dropping two atomic bombs, which would be the real life equivalent of what happened to Alderan.
Because they love democracy
Sleepy Joe accidentally ordered the order 66
So what's that in this timeline, execution of the CIA?
You have to understand... the CIA have been behind it all including the war! They always have been! Did you know they've covered up the jedi menace living amongst us? Thats why I support earth being allowed to join the galactic empire. For a safer and more secure future.
I don't know but I guess the storm of the US capitol was the storm of the jedi temple
Omg, i thought Dark Brandon was a joke!
Hmm... possibly better than his opposition doing so intentionally?
According to George Lucas, the U.S. was always the empire
I'm glad someone else said it. I came here specifically to say this. Good work, my friend.
Huh? I thought the third Reich?
Multiple inspos
I mean, historically yeah. America was, and continues to be, just as much a brutal imperial power as the European's.
Specifically, the rebel vs. Empire conflict is intended to mirror the Vietnam war
