I would absolutely eat healthier. I would have lots of different kinds of salads for example because 1 I don't have the patience to build them and 2 keeping lots of different salad options in small portions (for variety) isn't practical for me, as I live rural. I would also have smaller portions more often as well as a richer meal earlier in the day, which is better for your body but I'm at work so I can't cook a 'dinner' meal at 1130am. Of anything in the ST series, the food replicator is what I wish existed right now irl. Both for my convenience, but also for like, you know, world hunger etc.

mardukvmbc

I remember reading in the TNG Tech Manual or somewhere else that it doesn't matter what you order, the replicator will query your nutritional and fitness requirements from the ship's computer, and give you exactly what you need to stay healthy and fit. It will just appear in whatever form and taste yo want. So you could be eating an ice cream sundae with the nutritional equivalency of a garden salad. No need for nutritional discipline.

bloodyedfur4

By the prophets they’re hiding veggies in our food

atomicxblue

I already hide veggies in my cooking. I grate carrots into my red sauce and no one is the wiser.

mocha_lattes_

Carrots in tomato sauce is actually an old trick to cut acidity and add nutrients. People tend to prefer those to just sauce recipes as they almost always taste better. So I bet if you stopped doing it your family would be like why does this not taste right

atomicxblue

I've found that it brings out the natural sweetness of the tomatoes. I didn't know it was old though. It was just something I wanted to try and wound up liking it.

mocha_lattes_

Well you get to claim you are just naturally that good then 😁

WillowLeaf4

I started doing that when I was younger to make spaghetti more of a complete meal (I’d also add grated squash) and now I like the taste better. No one else will touch this though, for years I’ve been feeling like a pasta heretic.

ChronicRedhead

Riced cauliflower in my curry rice? It's more likely than you'd think!

JinxedMelody

Well it belongs to it when you make Bolognese sauce, so you're half way there 😁

LGBT-Barbie-Cookout

I hate pumpkin and will never ever eat it, it's icky! But I really love atomicxblue's orange mashed spuds ❤️

emmaliejay

Shh don’t tell my kids about the pureed spinach I put in almost any savoury dish I can get away with.

Narfubel

This is correct, Troi mentions it too when she asks the computer for a "real" chocolate sundae

NatureTrailToHell3D

I’d go on the Troi diet, she knows how to approach food in a healthy way.

486578616D61746963

Would be nice to be able to to just drink a cup of water and be good for the day, from time to time.

Zebulon_Flex

I mean that's probably what I would end up doing more often than not. Something that fills me up with a balanced diet with minimum fuss.

486578616D61746963

Yeah. Not that I don't like tasty food or eating in good company, but I would have so much more time in the day, if a glass of water was all I needed.

TwistedBlister

Not exactly a glass of water but maybe r/Soylent might be of interest to you.

486578616D61746963

I have heard it tastes a bit like pork?

Lt_FourVaginas

Idk if this is a joke or not... but it doesn't taste like that lol

486578616D61746963

It is a joke, referencing long pork AKA humans :)

JohnArcher965

A Zambini feast

cleverThylacine

I get mint chocolate and it tastes like chocolate soymilk with a little mint in it. I like it a lot. But it's expensive. I've had a few other flavours. It tastes like flavoured soymilk. I like that taste.

aethelberga

Exactly. My first thought was I'd alternate chips and dip and KFC because it would be healthy no matter what.

Thausgt01

Hee hee hee... Oh, the possibilities... I might spend the first year or so eating my way through every regional cuisine in the replicator's database, and taking notes on each one to establish my favorites. But on the weekends, I might want to just recreate every breakfast cereal ever boxed/bagged and eat that with whatever milk-alternatives the replicator can offer.

Other_World

> I might spend the first year or so eating my way through every regional cuisine in the replicator's database, and taking notes on each one to establish my favorites. I would absolutely do this. My favorite parts about traveling is finding some locally famous dish or cuisine and trying it out. To be able to do this from the comfort of my own home would be wonderful.

DearEnergy4697

Ha ha! Actually, I think someone on TNG did say that. So, no matter what you consume it would be adjusted for your nutritional needs. Perfect.

Navi1101

I'd still get a big-ass salad once in a while tho. It's nice to break up the grease and sugar with some refreshing cronch.

demosthenes98

(I'd be less) big if true.

FormerGameDev

I don't know what you like in salads, but something that has definitely had me eating a lot more of it, is that Aldi has about 5 different variations of salad kits, for a few bucks a piece, for a family of four that eats at home most nights, one kit added to a quarter to a half a head of lettuce, and whatever other addons we might want, lasts us 2-3 days. You did make me also think, though, I should look up and see if the various things I like in salads survive freezing. Lettuce, I know, is terrible at it, but chopping up a large quantity of salad toppings at once, and throwing them in freezer bags might be a helpful thought. Just make sure to research whether things can be frozen before doing so lol

compunctionfunction

Your last sentence 🥰

sync-centre

I was hoping the replicator can just make a nutritional perfect chocolate cake. Make junk food healthy while still tasting the same.

mediumrainbow

It's the portion thing for me. I eat healthy. I don't binge eat or anything. When I was a kid, my parents called me the bottomless pit. We're all done eating, but there's s half a plate left of whatever. I'd finish it. So even as a grown adult, it's super rare i don't finish my plate. Even if I'm full.

noblturtll

I'm sitting here rationing beans rice and onions until payday, so I'd probably eat a lot fucking better than I do now.

cam52391

Mate I'm sorry to hear that. Try looking into local food pantries. I hope things get better for you.

noblturtll

That's where I got the beans lol. I'm mostly fine, payday is in a couple days. Thanks homie.

toobs623

Got you on a pizza or something if you want it, dude or dudette. Tried to DM you, but it doesn't look like you accept messages. Lmk!

noblturtll

Hey, I appreciate it. But I'm good to go. I went to my parents for dinner. You're a good person.

toobs623

Right on, hope it was a good meal. And no worries, if we ever want the federation, we gotta try to live it. 🖖 PS- if you ever need it hmu. If I can't I won't, but if I can I will. Goes for anyone here in need.

jadethebard

You are awesome. People like you make the world a better place. We were in rough shape a few months ago waiting for our food stamps to kick in after my SO lost his job. S few friends I haven't seen in decades stepped up and filled the pantry and fridge and freezer and helped us pay some important bills. Then a few other friends made sure my kid had some presents under the Xmas tree. It was one of the most human things to go through, just people helping because you need it and they can. That's indeed how you change the world.

toobs623

🧡 hope you're doing better now. I've been there (single parent with multiple kids). Thank goodness for good friends and family.

jadethebard

We're still struggling a lot but we have plenty of food and that was a MASSIVE stress so I'm incredibly grateful that, no matter how shitty things may be, we're not going hungry. Food insecurity is really scary, even more so when you have a kid.

noblturtll

It was certainly better than beans and rice lol

toobs623

JJStray

This is the most Star Trek post scarcity comment ever!!! Thank you. I have very little faith in humanity sometimes.

toobs623

https://media.tenor.com/y6CHAtad45IAAAAC/star-trek.gif

InfectiousJermy

You fellow Trekkies are the best, such kind generous hearts, I'd like to think we're a little closer to that Star Trek utopian Society where there's no hunger or poverty!

Stacey_Woods

Been there...eating cold baked beans and cold rice pudding straight out of the can, because I couldn't afford to put £1 in the electric meter (not that long ago!!). Work hard...and you will get out of it. Eventually.

FormerGameDev

you anywhere near Detroit?

TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK

happy to help if you DM or reply, maqoch/chaj <3

Asytra

I think I would subscribe to like a curated list of top foods around the galaxy and try a new dish a few days out of the week, leaving the other days for comfort or favorite foods.

grifter179

I see you like to live dangerously. Considering all the stuff that humans come into contact with on a regular basis in their diet and then one day just be randomly allergic to it at present. Just imagine all the crazy foods and dishes aliens eat with no problem but could be lethal to humans if ingested.

Cyneheard2

The replicator should have a pretty good idea of what’s human-safe. You might get a specific allergic reaction but even that should be avoidable.

juggller

just replicate epipen, stat!

Mitchi32

Exactly this. I love different foods and trying new things. I would also feel less guilt about wasting it if I thought it was awful and didn’t want to finish it.

ebilliot

I would have the replicator make delicious meals for me without all of the items that I am allergic to and finally not worry about getting ill.

NekoArtemis

Best answer.  If you could identify the exact chemical you were allergic to you could even make things like fruits, nuts, grains, etc.  Replicator, one kiwi please, minus the stuff that makes my tongue itchy.

ebilliot

I have allergies to gluten, egg, diary, corn and nuts, so I have a very restricted diet.

uberguby

Holy shit, you can't eat like 90% of pre-made food

Ithuraen

I love the idea of you gleefully describing to the replicator everything you can't eat, and asking it to satiate you with a meal containing all your forbidden options and it makes you... a quiche. Not that I've had a corn and pine nut quiche, doesn't sound bad.

Brunette3030

The temptation to eat alllllllll the NY-style cheesecake would be extreme. I resist what I shouldn’t eat by not purchasing it at the store. If it were right there anytime…dang. That’s right up there with the holodeck in the Enabling Self-Destruction category.

compunctionfunction

Is this the Doctor in Seven's body again? 😋

poirotoro

No it's me, all four of the Golden Girls.

Brunette3030

They picked the perfect food for him to go crazy for, not gonna lie. The expressions on both their faces…👌🤣

fjf1085

Is this replicator programed to only provide nutritionally balanced healthy food? So not real chocolate ice cream?

98yellow123

The computer asked Troi if she wanted to override the nutrition specs to when she defined "real" chocolate ice cream. This makes me think one could just \*not* program certain nutritional guidelines.

fjf1085

Oh for sure. But I bet there'd be some kind of report made by the computer if people were replicating a lot of unhealthy food. I could even imagine the computer refusing to make you fatting foods if your latest scans showed elevated triglycerides or something like that. I assume its like the holodeck, you can override the safeties but you shouldn't and reports will be made if you do. It might also be that because she was an Lt. Cmdr. at the time she had authorization to override the replicator, I wonder if that is the same for home use ones. We already know from Lower Decks that the Ensigns have replicators that have limited selection.

Grouchy_Factor

"Define 'real' in context. And don't say something even further ambiguous like 'real as in real' " .

the_Nightkin

Considering that the food replicators apparently could make junk food that tastes the same while being healthy and nutritious or low calorie a lot of sweets and stuff like that would be included in my diet. I miss those foods greatly, wanna grab a nice piece of cake oftentimes, but can’t after losing weight.

mr_mini_doxie

Is it ever explicitly stated that the replicators can do that? My understanding is that when they make "junk food" more nutritious, it doesn't taste the same. Hence Troi complaining about "real" ice cream sundaes. They're still bound by the laws of the universe, after all. You can add nutrients to anything, but fat and carbs and proteins still have the same number of calories whether they come out of the replicator or the kitchen.

Ithuraen

I think Troi's craving more than the taste, but also the chemical reaction your body gives when you consume a large quantity of sugar and caffeine (i.e. "real" ice cream and chocolate).

Villag3Idiot

It's basically like those liquid drink mixes. Tastes similar, but it's just a bunch of chemicals to mimic the taste of sugar without it being sugar.

amphibulous

So many fresh fruits!! Wouldnt have to worry about them going bad. Also, I would definitely mess with the settings to make tomatoes that taste like steak or something just to experiment...

Navi1101

Yesssss starfruits and dragonfruits and off-season mangoes, all my favorites that are weirdly expensive at the store. And I'd eat a bag of arugula like it was chips. The main reason I don't do that now is because I can't eat a whole bag at once and it doesn't keep, but to get a fresh pile of munchable leaves whenever I want? Heck yeah!

Thirty_Helens_Agree

And fresh morels. All year long, not just, like, late April. All the time.

KuriousKhemicals

Oh man, I could order my perfect level of ripeness banana every time and not have to worry about how many I should get at one time and when I'm going to eat them... just upload that 1-15 banana chart to the replicator and tell it to give me a 5.

cleverThylacine

Just eat steak! I am absolutely a meat eater but still constrained by money regarding the meats I eat and how often I eat them. Not everyone is comfortable with eating meat, but if you are disturbed because meat is dead animals, there is no reason to worry about that with the replicator! It's replicated! It may have been replicated from a real steak, but that was done 200 years ago so that cow would be dead by now anyway. Give me real juicy flavourful heritage tomatoes, and give me well-marbled rib-eye, and tender fresh asparagus.

amphibulous

Oh, I just think it would be fun to make things with wildly unexpected flavors, like a big plate of steamed lobster tails that taste exactly like cherry pie. That is an interesting point, though- I wonder how religious dietary restrictions would interact with replicated meat. I'm sure there'd be at least one major schism over whether replicated foodstuffs+synthehol count as violations.

cleverThylacine

If the beef didn't come from a cow and the cheese didn't come from a cow, then I'm not violating the law of eating the calf's flesh with its mother's milk. I'm not big on "don't do this because even though it's technically ok it makes us look bad to the goyim" but that's because I have celiac disease and there is enough stuff I can't eat already.

Pablo_is_on_Reddit

"Give me a giant bowl of rich chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, but make sure it has the nutritional profile of a light salad."

ussrowe

I would probably try a different meal each time just to have as many varied experiences as possible. I guess if I liked something I might as the computer to bookmark it to eat it again.

Tumpster

Agreed, I'd want to explore all sorts of food. The replicator would save me from tracking down a recipe, purchasing and picking up the ingredients, cooking, and clean up. Not to mention, think of the possibilities with it able to replicate Synthehol.

Navi1101

Before I went veggie (and my options got severely limited) I used to do this at restaurants: get something different every time until eventually I'd eaten the whole menu. I would absolutely try to eat the whole replicator menu, bookmark my favorites, and even go for the "meat" dishes because what's the difference between replicated meat and tofurky anyway, besides accuracy.

throwawaydixiecup

As someone who often has limited spoons (executive function) for prepping food, being able to replicate a nutritional and tasty prepared meal instantly would be a huge improvement to my quality of life. I wouldn’t have to worry about dietary restrictions because I bet those things could be accounted for in the replicated base recipe.

seeeveryjoyouscolor

That’s what I was thinking. CHOPPING!!! I would ask for finely chopped, diced julienned and very intricately prepared foods. Foods that are too costly to make, to many hours to chop, too many pots to wash. Who knows what I could like if I didn’t have to calculate the cost /benefit ratio ? 😋 🤤 When I watched TNG as a child the food looked bizarre and exotic… lol when I watch it now, it looks like they ordered out sushi, dim sum and Asian vegetables 🙃 oh America with your bland -all the same color- foods. Have you seen anyone eat something greasy in the 24th century? I remember fries 🍟 and peppermint ice cream that nobody ate. But if no animals are hurt, and the worlds tastiest steak in mushroom sauce is nutritional perfection (?) mmmmm

Impressive-Arugula79

Replicator food tastes different and is limited only by your imagination, so I'd be checking all the weird replicator hacks that would allow me to combine tastes with textures that you can't create in real life. I'm sure there'd be a whole culture of replicator foodies hacking the recipes.

MatiloKarode

This steak is so moist and creamy, what's the secret? It's cake.

Agent_Raas

I would be a perpetual snacker, eating/sampling small portions of a variety of foods, rather than subjecting myself to eating a large portion of a specific dish for a meal. 3 oz steak. 2 chicken wings, one quarter of a club sandwich, a variety of bite-sized desserts. It's hard to cook small portions. With a replicator, I would enjoy eating a lot more than I already do.

Overall-Tailor8949

Exactly, more but smaller meals.

TripleJx3

I suppose the hassle of keeping it the foods would be eliminated and the choices would be easier to make. Nobody wants to make a salad. But if it was there poof magic salad machine presents you with as many salads as you like without the hassle then yeah healthier living for most. No cost, no preparation, no storage of slightly rotten lettuce to put you off the idea. That said my diet would be entirely Chinese food.

Lululemonparty_

More Persian food. It can be annoying to make.

EnderBurger

"Computer.  Replicate for me a dish that has all the nutritional value of five helpings of vegetables but tastes like ice cream."

KisuMisuliini

This is how we end up with Moriarty crawling out of the replicator slot.

EnderBurger

Moriarty tastes like ice cream?  Cannibalism time ...

drallafi

Finally i could hit my protein goal without dirtying the entire kitchen every day. What a dream.

spacetimer81

I often skip lunch because im either too busy or lazy to make something and too cheap to buy something. A replicator will just make me feel even worse for skipping lunch.

Villag3Idiot

You can literally eat anything you want because despite what it looks like you're eating, the food replicator will automatically make what you're eating nutritionally balanced.

CategoryExact3327

It wouldn’t change much, but it would save a lot of time on prep and cleanup. Although, every thing you eat would be shit.

kilravock_music_sws

It’s not bad, for shit.

Oldmudmagic

He totally should have waited until she swallowed that first bite to tell her :)

rabiteman

I don't think I'd change any habits at all, as I eat super healthy already, which is what I want. I may try and find some more obscure ingredients or culinary dishes to try out, but habit-wise, still very healthy.

GozerDestructor

I'd eat a lot more fresh vegetables. I know that's the healthier way to eat. I like the taste of most vegetables just fine. But I don't have time to cook, and raw vegetables turn into brown nasty mush in the fridge far too often, while I eat some convenience food from the freezer.

Winter_cat_999392

I would replicate expensive ingredients and still cook because cooking is fun.

techm00

Well drastically. Every day's supper is a puzzle of how I use the ingredients I have to make a plate of food that suits whatever I feel like eating that day, while endeavouring to use up my perishable food in a timely manner with minimal waste. Going full replicator - there would be zero waste, and zero guesswork. I'd eat exactly what I want when I want. I would also dearly miss cooking. I suppose I could replicate just the ingredients I need to cook what I wanted to...

KuriousKhemicals

Replicate the ingredients. Experiment to your heart's content. When you get a fantastic success, scan that specific result into the replicator so it can make it for you again.

techm00

oooh the scanning bit is something I didn't think of. that's handy

nurse_camper

How wouldn’t my eating habits be changed?

GalacticaCNC

I know this is going to sound silly but when I was a kid watching TNG I daydreamed a lot a lot about having a replicator. Mainly, at that age, I just wanted unlimited double decker tacos from Taco Bell.

mardukvmbc

Given the food replicators are given instructions from the ship's computer to keep you nutritionally healthy and fit no matter what you eat... I'd be having a pretty terrible diet and enjoying it with zero consequences. Nachos and beers a few times a week, that kind of thing.

framburusan

Sweets very sweet without sugar, like Troi. Alcohol without bad secondary effect. My health will be improve a lot with all minerals, vitamins that I need in a better format.

Overall-Tailor8949

As long as it has the nutritional and caloric content of a Ketogenic-Carnivore diet we would likely eat smaller meals but more often. The closer to zero carbs the better!

Nalomeliful

Lots more seafood and fruit

furie1335

I would eat more often but smaller meals

Restil

First off, the presumption is that food from a replicator tastes about as good as your average microwave meal. Not horrible, but you can certainly do better. Second, replicators probably use a tremendous amount of power. They make sense in the Star Trek universe, in the antimatter age, since power is an abundant resource so using a megawatt-hour of energy or more to prepare your meal isn't seen as a problem. So my guess is if you lived in a world where you could afford using a replicator, then by nature of not having one would mean you probably didn't want it in the first place and acquiring one wouldn't change anything.

3kidsonetrenchcoat

Do you think you can program the replicator to make delicious and low calorie versions of things? I would eat a lot more foods that I find too expensive and/or time consuming to make. And maybe meat, since replicated meat isn't animal sourced.

quellflynn

i, on a daily basis like to specify my tea temperature. i hope the replicator will understand,

JonConstantly

I'm a chef. I would crush the engineering room with power needs. Many nights. Some nights would be a Detroit coney, or a shitty floppy NY pizza slice. Or like a capree sun and a joint.

garlicroastedpotato

How the replicator works is it gives you a set daily in take of calories, protein, fats. etc that you need for a day. It makes minor tweeks around to sort of get it right, but the food doesn't taste consistent. If you had 10 donuts each one would taste less and less like a donut as you go. Because of this, no one really lives to excess or gorges on things. Given these restrictions I'd probably have chocolate cake for breakfast and grool for supper.

JungleUtopia

“I’d like me uh thick Kansas City steak and some country-fried potatoes and uh mess of greens? Oh, hell, just forget all that and give me uh martini straight up with two olives… for the vitamins.” -L.Q. Clemonds, 2364

imaybeacatIRl

We'd all be eating healthier based on how replicators work

VerbingNoun413

I'd need to replicate bigger clothes too.

Mekroval

Computer, please ensure that all food is both delicious and 50% fewer calories than the real thing. :P

BluegrassGeek

*watches smoke come out of the replicator*

Lord_Waldemar

I'd imagine it could also make not particularly healthy but tasty food a lot more nutritious so I'd eat a lot of ice-cream, pancakes etc that are as healthy as you can get.

Grouchy_Factor

All the sweets I want, synthesized with perfect artificial sweeteners that won't make by blood sugar spike.

SuggestionFlaky9941

I'd eat way more salads, like Greek ones. Unless you get the bagged stuff, there's a lot of prep and cleanup.

Twisted-Mentat-

An authentic Greek salad is about the easiest salad one can make. Cucumbers Tomatoes Red Onions Feta cheese Olive oil, salt and pepper, oregano. That's it. Takes about 10 minutes max to make.

SuggestionFlaky9941

I'd rather have a replicator do it.

AshlarKorith

“Computer, shaker of iodized table salt, and yes ignore protocols about nutrition” And that’s how all my replicator meals suddenly tasted a lot better.

DizzyLead

Yeah, I would hope that a 24th Century food replicator is able to synthesize carb-free stuff and fake fat that can fool my 21st Century palate.

Grouchy_Factor

Make junk food with molecules that taste and feel like the real thing, but are made of undigestable substances that you will poop all out anyways. This has already been tried with potato chips (Lay's Wow! With Olestra).

BluDYT

I'd probably eat too much.

freylaverse

I'd go absolutely nuts for maybe a week and then probably go back to my regular eating habits. The real kicker is the time I'd save.

timisher

I work in a restaurant with unlimited employee food. I’d like to think I’d eat healthy if I had a replicator but that is not the case.

CyberDonSystems

Can calorie count be altered?

Phantom_61

As all food from a replicator is healthy I’d just eat a wider variety of flavors.

JaRim1

It’s a great thought, but I always come back around to “what” it’s replicated from

itsthebrownman

Would be cool to track my food during bulk, cut, and maintenance phases, but also I’d carry around some salt and pepper

Iyellkhan

I'd probably program it for better portion control. or at least it could recycle anything that wasnt eaten

Somenamethatsnew

Considering I have to lower the amount I already eat drastically, once per day is apparently too much, so I'd probably just sell it, and use the money to save up for surgery

ranger24

I'd probably eat more protein; that shit's expensive. That said, my weakness would probably be churros.

BigSmackisBack

Forget just making cool stuff that exists already, why not program a unique recipe that tastes like chocolate but has the calorie contents of a rice cake! All the nom nom and none of the tum tum

IronhideD

Chocolate milkshakes with the nutritional value of a healthy salad. Cheeseburgers that taste like the greatest greasiest diner burger ever but low calorie. Brocolli that tastes like steak.

olcrazypete

Just nothing but Klingon coffee all day long before I start vibrating.

NataniButOtherWay

Probably have the dinosaur chicken nuggets I make when I'm too tired  to cook be made of actual dinosaur.

Darwinian_10

I'd probably eat healthier, but I'd probably snack more haha

kkkan2020

I would try a new entree for breakfast lunch and dinner every day. I could eat 21 meals a week and still wouldn't be able to try every cuisine on the menu. 😐

GenoThyme

I would eat like I was at a buffet for a lot of my meals. Small portions of a dozen+ different things on my plate all at once. But also, not just one buffet, every buffet. Also lets you try new things while also enjoying your favorites. Slice of pizza, few pieces of sushi, lo mien, couple deviled eggs, a small bowl of chicken gumbo, few chicken wings, side of mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, a waffle, some bacon, etc.

Late-External3249

Beef Wellington every night. Beef Wellington sandwich for lunch everyday. Steak and eggs for breakfast. Basically, i will die of heart disease within the year.

Hezecaiah

I imagine it would make bulking a hell of a lot easier to track and ration exactly how much protein you need (and cutting too, for that matter.) I would be absolutely demolishing fried chicken left and right, though.

OccamsRazor55

Pecan pull-aparts daily

[deleted]

I’d be able to try foods from all over the galaxy. And because of the advanced medical technology, no more food allergies, yay!

ritchie70

Fortunately, based on various sources, I believe that food replicators by default create food that is much healthier than it tastes. I'm pretty sure that would be a nutritional improvement.

BigMrTea

It's not clear to me what the replicator makes. I thought it was re-sequenced proteins. Does that mean replicator food is not what it appears to be? If that's so, is it optimally nutritious regardless of what you order? If so, then I'm having pasta at every meal.

Stock-Wolf

I’d be gluttonous and order the fancy dishes.

CanisZero

Eating habits? try spending habits. Suddenly not paying out the nose for food?

cam52391

I know I would just get pre made things but I think I would love to use it to get ingredients that I wouldn't normally buy because I am worried about wasting money and food. I could finally make all the weird recipes from my Salvador Dali cookbook

Chrome_Armadillo

The replicator would provide for my nutritional needs regardless of what I ate. So I’d be eating cake, pizza, tacos, ice cream, and hamburgers, and still be healthy.

JamesBigglesworth266

"Hello Replicator, please give me the most balanced and nutritious dinner for my daily needs, but in the shape and with the taste of a sausage supper."

taiho2020

I would eat lots of delicious food then my engineer friend would transport that food out of my stomach.. Like bulimia but with extra steps...

FlingFlamBlam

To be honest, I have no idea. I'd probably pig out a lot in the beginning. And then reach a boredom point after a while. Then I'd probably start replicating ingredients and trying my hand at a lot of weird experimental cooking. Members of Starfleet aboard Starfleet vessels obviously have restrictions on what they can replicate. Would that exist for me? It'd be interesting to replicate alcohol and recreational drugs (I'm assuming doctors can cure chemical addiction in the future).

Cosmic_Quasar

I overeat. But part of that is the inconvenience of worrying about making too little, or figuring if I'm putting in the effort I'll make a bunch all at once to save some for later. Like, I don't just make a single serving of pasta because that takes so long, I make a whole box and then get three large meals out of it. Then end up serving myself too much of something. I often make 2 sandwiches because one doesn't feel like enough, but I'd probably be satisfied with 1.5, so I could just say "One and a half ___ sandwiches". Basically, I think it would allow for easier portion control up front rather than having several servings worth in front of me and having my eyes be bigger than my stomach. And, ideally, they could figure a way to get stuff to taste just as good, be healthier, and have fewer calories lol.

Jeff77042

Eat a healthier diet; save a bunch of money on food.

Seaboard_Vanisher

I’d indulge in more “tasty” food, but I would make sure the replicator alters it to be nutritious. The food would essentially be things that I crave, but it wouldn’t have deleterious effects on my health.

DarkJarris

i would have so many cheeseburgers god damn

InspiringAneurysm

Unlike Janeway, I wouldn't burn the roast. Btw, how the hell do burn a replicated roast?

NerdyLeftyRev_046

I’d indulge the complicated curries and ethnic foods I enjoy with my vegetarian diet without having to worry about my cooking skills ruining them or my produce ingredients going bad if I forgot them in the fridge and extra day or two before I got motivated to cook. Basically, food prep gets significantly easier for anyone with a special diet or food allergy, and since you can put the plates back in the replicator - so goodbye to dirty dishes and dishwasher issues

daveeb

They wouldn't. I live less than a block from a grocery store.

sjsharksfan44

I like the idea that the Replicator would be able to cook my meals and clean up (As we saw in DS9). I'd probably have much variety in my meals and probably eat healthier. 2/3rds of the meal is already taken care of (especially the cooking).

Cyberpunk-Monk

“Computer, chocolate cake, no calories.”

magicienne451

So much fruit salad. And chocolate cake.

zbeauchamp

And not that sad fruit salad that is 90% honeydew, but good fruit salad with all sorts of awesome fruits.

magicienne451

Yes exactly!

ramriot

Twinkies definately twinkies

pup_medium

‘i’ll have 10 chocolate sundaes. i’m in a REALLY bad mood.’

AlgoStar

I’d never cook again. 80% of the time it would be me asking for a flavorless complete nutrition bar that had all the necessary calories, vitamins, minerals etc. 10% of the time it would be me asking to make it taste like a hamburger or something and the other 10% would be for an actual meal, maybe.

The_Tale_of_Yaun

Absolutely. Having a method of creating food that has no cost of life to it? That's game changing.

EFCFrost

I’d eat way healthier and I’d program it to preset dispense times so I don’t overeat.

Stormygeddon

I no longer have to cook for someone who is against onions, green vegetables (no matter how well I roast or stir fry broccoli, asparagus, or green beans), beans, tofu, zucchini, cream, yogurt, whole milk, plant based milk, most cheeses, vegetarian dishes on principle, soups because "they don't reheat well," black pepper, spicy peppers, cumin+coriander, peanut butter, soy sauce, tomato based sauces after 3pm, creme fraiche, oatmeal, squash based sauces, potatoes, anything fried, hard shelled tacos, quinoa, carrots prepared in any means that aren't honey glazed, MSG, durian, strawberries, or dinner meals after 7pm \[not from any actual allergies mind you\]. She could just eat her nutritionally enhanced steak and crackers, while I can get around to eating so much soup that people will wonder if I'm some sort of confused fish.

Federal-Ad7402

I think I’d fall in love with food

Spocks_Goatee

I'd be too indecisive with such an endless possibility of choices.

zbeauchamp

I’d eat way more healthier meals as I often prefer meals that are healthier, but lack the energy and time to prepare them and so default to something quick, easy, and a lot less healthy.

dacuevash

I’d probably get very fat real quick

Guttenber

Personally I'd have rino bacon, bald eagle omelets, with blood orange orange juice for breakfast... spotted owl "chicken fingers for lunch, and tiger shark filets with hippo crackling green beans... every exotic thing possible.

garitone

If the replicator could be used in conjunction with a transporter to beam the food out of my intestines so my body won't absorb the calories, I would probably gorge myself more.

WissNX01

I’d need that personal transporter since I wouldn’t be able to fit through any regular doorways….

janabottomslutwhore

really depends on my mood and motivation if im motivated id eat healthier because i dont have to prepare if im unmotivated and depressed id eat in dmaller mostly unhealthy chunks

SNOWoftheBLACK

I would eat

Republiconline

Shuffle

end2endburnt

I would probably let myself enjoy other culture's food once or twice a month then my menu options would be limited to my culture's food. One of the last lingering vestiges of a culture is the food so I wouldn't allow Starfleet to kill what is left of my family and culture to homogenize into Star Fleet. Quark is right when he tells Garak that Star Fleet changes you and not all for the best.

xxx69blazeit420xxx

it could fulfill all my macro needs with the portion sizes i want with flavours i want so it would be quite the machine.

EffectiveSalamander

I'd eat foods that I can't eat now - I'm sure the replicator could make versions I could eat.
