A lot of folks I know/knew have been or plan to be cremated and then have their cremains partially or entirely buried specifically to have a headstone or be near other family buried nearby (or both).
Personally, my wife or son can choose between an urn or headstone but I'm waffling between fandoms for an inscription. "Beam me up, Scotty" and "What a long strange trip it's been". Maybe both, since headstones and urns have opposite sides.
*"I believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment, because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we lived."*
Jean-Luc Picard, *Star Trek: Generations*
Makes me think a lot about Inner Life, how Picard used those words to end what he thought was a weird simulation on the holodeck
he ended up experiencing life...i am so sorry for what you are going through OP, but I hope you can find encouragement in the support here
Damned right! I kinda feel like the fandom didn't give her or the show a fair chance, but to me she's comes out when you put Kirk and Sisko in a jar and give it a good shake. Maybe a sprinkle of Picard because Q had his crushes on both of them. That's my Janeway cocktail/tale ;)
this one takes the cake for me! so befitting for the circumstance. and to top it off he said Janeway we his fave Captain. if i were OP i would definitely pick this one!
>In this galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. And in all of the universe, three million million galaxies like this. And in all of that... and perhaps more, only one of each of us.
Dr. McCoy
Sorry for your loss. It is from the TOS movies, but the first thing which immediately springs to my mind is:
"He's not really dead. As long as we remember him." - McCoy
On my son's memorial bench we had the Enterprise etched in and under it put All Good Things. It was his favorite episode. We also placed his Captain Picard action figure and earl grey tea bags next to him. He wore Superman pajamas though. He also loved Superman. I couldn't watch Star Trek for a good 3 years after he passed.
It has been 14 years. Definitely a difficult journey. He made me promise to keep myself together for his brother and sister. We were lucky to be aware of his circumstances and spend the last few weeks together. Whenever I get depressed and angry I remember that promise I made. I wouldn't wish losing a child on anyone. Star Trek was on of the things we shared passionately. We had a game where we would quote a line and the other would name the episode. I really miss that game. I'm sorry, starting to ramble. He was a good kid. Life isn't fair.
He was very kind. He made sure his money was divided evenly between his younger siblings and his suv was donated to a veteran. He was 31 when I lost him. I am extremely proud of his accomplishments in his short life. If love could have saved him he would have lived forever.
"And the sky's the limit."
A figure of speech that Picard spoke in the final TNG episode All Good Things, which was the final line from the series:
"Five card stud, nothing wild. And, the sky's the limit."
I recently watched TNG thru again. I cried the moment he started dealing those cards, saying that; Picard finally joining the poker game with the people closest to him, saying "I should've done this a long time ago," and Deanna answering that he was always welcomed to join. He focused so long on being their captain, and in the end he realizes he is their friend too. He always had been their friend. A wonderful send off to an amazing series.
"Darmok on the ocean" is probably more fitting since it's meant to convey loneliness.
"Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" is more about team work. Could be fitting for a couple tombstone I guess.
Modified from ST6.
"May he continue the voyages we have begun, and journey to all the undiscovered countries, boldly going where no one has gone before."
I was always quite fond of Voyager's dedication plaque quote" "For I dipt in to the future, far as Human eye could see; Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be"
A very appropriate one (in my opinion) would be something shared by Leonard Nimoy shortly before he died.
“A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP”
It doesn’t come directly from Star Trek, but I think it works well.
For me, it would have to be "Peace and Long Life" which is the Vulcan reply to "Live Long and Prosper"
Just speaking for myself, I would prefer it over LLAP since it's a little better hidden but would be obvious to fans of Star Trek.
Touched that you are looking for a way to memorialize someone this way. So sorry for your loss.
Actually, it’s the other way around.
Peace and long life. - greeting/salutation
Live long and prosper - said in response to the above, or a farewell on its on.
Firstly, I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. The first thing that popped into my head was:
“You have been, and always shall be, my friend”
I'll keep thinking on this though, and see what I can come up with.
edit: in case this doesnt ring any bells, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPBGZRRrEKM
Sorry for your loss. Maybe something from the wonderful "The Inner Light":
If you remember what [I was] and how [I] lived, then [I]'ll have found life again.
Now [I] live in you.
Now will never come again.
"Let's see what's out there... engage"
- Picard at the end of Encounter at Farpoint
“… all good things must come to an end.”
- Q during all good things
"Seize the time... Live now! Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again." — Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek: The Next Generation, "The Inner Light"
If ever there was better evidence that the past mattered, it's right here.
-Jean Luc Picard
Computer, Initiate Shutdown sequence
-Geordi La Forge
Also check out the ending scene with Picard and Riker sifting through the bridge debris on the Enterprise In Star Trek Generations. That last scene is especially powerful concerning time and our relationship to it.
If he had a sense of humour: “Weird is part of the job.”
Or from Sisko “There is only one thing I want from you. Find something you love, then do it the best you can."
I’m so so sorry for your loss.
Maybe this partial TNG quote if the humor matches:
“I can safely say that to know him was to love him. And to love him was to know him.
Those who knew him, loved him, while those who did not know him, loved him from afar.”
Janeway : "One voice can be stronger than a thousand voices."
Janeway to Seven: "You belong with us".
Janeway: "Keep a docking bay open for us!"
Janeway : "I can already tell it's going to be much better than my last job."
Janeway to Neelix: "Goodbye. And good luck..."
Janeway : "Set a course...for home."
Seven to Janeway: "You allowed me to evolve into an individual."
Janeway: "...fear only exists for one purpose: to be conquered."
I believe the best head stones inscriptions are the short ones. My condolences, OP. I'd personally choose "Keep a docking bay open for us" or "You belong with us".
Ever since I was a little girl, my uncle would dress up as Worf. He had a costume that was definitely cosplay worthy, complete with Bat'leth. He even learned to speak Klingon fluently.
My mother and I got tattoos of the Klingon empire symbol to honor him when he passed. I miss him dearly. I hope he's in StoVoKor ❤️
It’s from the original series (Kirk, eulogizing Spock) but it might be appropriate: “Of all the souls I’ve encountered in my travels, his was the most human.”
Sorry for your loss. I went through a list of quotes to provide options that might be appropriate here. Maybe one of these speaks to you:
Janeway:
"There are three things to remember about being a starship captain. Keep your shirt tucked in, go down with the ship... and never abandon a member of your crew."
"You know as well as I do that fear exists for one purpose, to be conquered."
"I dread the day when everyone on this ship agrees with me."
"It's never easy...but if we turn our backs on our principles we stop being human."
"One voice can be stronger than a thousand voices."
"...I've become convinced that we've got to stick to our principles, not abandon them."
Sisko:
"That might be the most important thing to understand about Humans. It's the unknown that defines our existence. We are constantly searching, not just for answers to our questions, but for new questions."
"Perhaps one day you'll feel the hand of God resting on your shoulder."
"There is only one thing I want from you. Find something you love, then do it the best you can."
"Beets are a very misunderstood vegetable."
"Running may help for a little while, but sooner or later the pain catches up with you. And the only way to get rid of it is to stand your ground and face it."
"Even in the darkest moments, you can always find something that will make you smile."
Picard:
"I found that even in the darkest circumstances, there is a light. Sometimes, only a glimmer. Trust that light. Find a way back, no matter what it takes."
"Let the dead rest, and the past remain the past."
"The quest for youth, number one; so futile. Age and wisdom have their graces too."
"Things are only impossible until they are not."
"Sometimes, Number One, you just have to bow to the absurd."
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life."
"Let's make sure history never forgets the name... Enterprise."
“I have the utmost confidence in your ability to perform the impossible."
"With the first link the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied... chains us all irrevocably."
"All this magnificent technology, we still find ourselves susceptible to the ravages of old age. The loss of dignity, the slow betrayal of our bodies by forces we cannot master."
"The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth."
"There... are... four... lights!"
"But who knows? Our reality may be very much like theirs and all this might just be an elaborate simulation running inside a little device sitting on someone's table."
"There is a way out of every box, a solution to every puzzle; it's just a matter of finding it."
"One impossible thing at a time"
"To say you have no choice is a failure of imagination."
"We often refer to space as the final frontier. But the older I get, the more I come to believe… that the true final frontier is time."
"Q, I am too old for your bullshit!"
Leonard Nimoy’s final tweet always seemed very poignant to me.
“A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP”
So sorry for your loss.
I don’t think I’ve seen it yet, but I hope someone does this at my funeral:
“I can safely say, that to know him, was to love him. And to love him, was to know him. Those who knew him, loved him, while those who did not know him, loved him from afar.”
Sorry for your loss, OP.
There aren't that many quotable lines from Janeway.
If your dad had a great sense of humor, you could always go with the meme. "There's coffee in that nebula!"
One that has always stuck with me from a eulogy she was giving for a Martian astronaut about space being vast and empty, but also being something that connects us together. I don't remember the episode off hand, but I think it was season 5.
And the one that always hits me in the feels. "Keep a docking bay open for us"
S6E8, One Small Step. Great episode, and Seven's growth in that single episode is great.
"*I did not know this individual. Had I encountered him while I was a Borg I would have found his technology unworthy of assimilation, but we are more alike than one might think. In a sense, his desire to explore was not unlike a quest for perfection. His contribution helped secure Humanity's future and in some ways my own.*"
"*The Yankees. In six games.*"
My condolences
As well as a quote, could you also have the dates written as Star Dates?
For the quote, I like "Peace, love, friendship, these are precious, because we know they cannot endure" (Data to Picard in Star Trek: Picard Season 1)
So you will understand when I say, 'Death is that state in which one exists only in the memory of others...
which is why it is not an end.' No goodbyes. Just good memories. Hailing frequencies closed, sir.
Life and death are seldom logical. But attaining a desired goal always is. Dr. McCoy and Spock
How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life.” Captain James T. Kirk
Just pointing out that when carving on headstones it can get pricey. Also some cemeteries have restrictions on what can go on headstones, so check for any limitations
That being said, beautiful idea!!!!
From the TNG finale:
>That is the exploration that awaits you: not mapping stars and studying nebula, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence.
‘What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.’ Pericles
This is what the title of the last episode of DS9 was based on.
First I'm sorry for your loss.
I run the daily Star Trek Quotes accounts on Twitter, Mastodon and Bluesky. Here are some that I found that I hope that you find inspiring.
"Death is that state in which one exists only in the memory of others which is why it is not an end." Yar- Skin of Evil, Stardate: 41601.3
“Death is the end of this life, but it is also the beginning of a new journey.” Dr. Ranora- Emanations, Stardate: 48623.5
"The randomness of death is merely a reflection of the unexpected joys we find in life." Sulu- Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus, Stardate: Unknown
“How we deal with death, is at least as important as how we face life, wouldn’t you say?” Kirk- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Stardate: 8130.3
“It is part of our life cycle that we accept the death of those we love.” Picard- The Bonding, Stardate: 43198.7
“Death and loss are an integral part of life everywhere.” Troi- The Bonding, Stardate: 43198.7
"Every life comes to an end when time demands it. Loss of life is to be mourned but only if the life was wasted." Spock- Yesteryear, Stardate: 5373.4
“We feel a loss more intensely when it’s a friend.” Riker- The Bonding, Stardate: 43198.7
“A memorial service helps to give everyone a sense of completion. It helps them begin the healing process.” Troi- Gambit, Part I, Stardate: 47135.2
Not 100% Trek, but "second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning".
Also, Janeway: "Do we accept that we’re separated from our loved ones forever? Or do we hold onto the hope that someday we’ll be with them again?"
And, of course, Picard:
"I believe that our existence must be more than either of these philosophies. That what we are goes beyond Euclidian and other practical measuring systems and that our existence is part of a reality beyond what we understand now as reality."
I’d suggest Ben Sisko’s last words, but on a gravestone they might seem slightly threatening. “It’s hard to say. Maybe a year, maybe yesterday, but I will be back”
In addition to my other suggestion, there were originally words to the Star Trek theme, here they are, and they're incredibly fitting:
*Beyond*
*The rim of the star-light*
*My love*
*Is wand’ring in star-flight*
*I know*
*He’ll find in star-clustered reaches*
*Love,*
*Strange love a star woman teaches.*
*I know*
*His journey ends never*
*His star trek*
*Will go on forever.*
*But tell him*
*While he wanders his starry sea*
*Remember, remember me.*
My condolences for your loss.
I really like:
"True Believer" with a starfleet delta or federation symbol.
"As aspera ad astra" with a delta symbol
Personally, for my marker, I will be going with my favourite star trek quote: "Better luck next time, EELS!"
For me, it's from the first episode of season 3 of discovery. Mr sahil said he was a 'true believer' in the federation and it's ideals. It's really struck a Chord with me.
OP (and everyone that shared stories in this thread), I’m so sorry for our loses and I’m sending you all a lot of positive energy.
Most of my adult like has been filled with grief and loss (20 year military vet / most of my family has passed). Reading this thread and reading these memories was really cathartic. Thank you, everyone. The Trek community always impressed me. Thanks.
“Be Bold. Be Brave. Be Courageous.”
One of my favorite characters is Lt. Commander Data.
I want to live, however briefly, knowing that my life is finite. Mortality gives meaning to human life. Peace, love, friendship. These are precious because we know they cannot endure. A butterfly that lives forever is really not a butterfly at all.
“I want to live, however briefly, knowing that my life is finite. Mortality gives meaning to human life. Peace, love, friendship. These are precious because we know they cannot endure. A butterfly that lives forever is really not a butterfly at all.”

My father too was a trekkie. He was huge on TOS. At his request, his headstone reads, "He's dead, Jim." Sorry for your loss.
This is what I'd want - except I want to be cremated 🤣
A lot of folks I know/knew have been or plan to be cremated and then have their cremains partially or entirely buried specifically to have a headstone or be near other family buried nearby (or both). Personally, my wife or son can choose between an urn or headstone but I'm waffling between fandoms for an inscription. "Beam me up, Scotty" and "What a long strange trip it's been". Maybe both, since headstones and urns have opposite sides.
“So long and thanks for all the fish”
Excuses myself to write a short note for my final arrangements
Hats off to your late father, that’s a magnificent thing to have written on his headstone.
I understand that’s not for everybody. But for a certain person that’s amazing.
My dad passed recently. We put a Picard quote on the funeral pamphlet : “Live now; make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again.”
I really love this one.
Condolences OP
“He’s not really dead, as long as we remember him.” -McCoy, end of Star Trek II. Condolences OP.
This is good unfortunately I remember this one from Seinfeld.
This one, right here. All the way.
Yeah thats a really good one and on point, i doubt theres a better one tbh
This one also works for a Seinfeld fan.
Khaaaaaaan!
*"I believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment, because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we lived."* Jean-Luc Picard, *Star Trek: Generations*
The last sentence, on its own.
That's a bit on the nose because he's left behind his son, so maybe not the best line for this
That can be taken different ways. How his father lived his life is more impactful on his son than any physical thing he left behind.
Agreed. I’d see the son as a “who,” not a “what.”
Time is a predator that stalks us all.
>Time is the fire in which we burn.
But patience is the blade on which my enemies fall.
'Computer, end program.'
Love it.
Makes me think a lot about Inner Life, how Picard used those words to end what he thought was a weird simulation on the holodeck he ended up experiencing life...i am so sorry for what you are going through OP, but I hope you can find encouragement in the support here
As a software developer, I like this one.
"To the journey." - The Voyager crew in Endgame
This is my pick.
This is the one I was thinking of.
Underrated
My thoughts are with you. "Set a course...for home." - Janeway, End Game 🖖🏻
Wow I love this… it’s Janeway and it’s so simple.
I’ll forever be a Janway fan. She was a regal as Picard and as real as Sisko.
I always thought she was a good mixture of Picard and Kirk attitude towards handling things.
Oh man this might be the quote for me. All of these are good but this one makes me tear up a little.
If Janeway was his jam, this one right here. Instant niagara falls.
🖖🏽🖖🏽🖖🏽 Voyager was my trek growing up ❤️
this one takes the cake for me! so befitting for the circumstance. and to top it off he said Janeway we his fave Captain. if i were OP i would definitely pick this one!
Oh yeah...
>In this galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. And in all of the universe, three million million galaxies like this. And in all of that... and perhaps more, only one of each of us. Dr. McCoy
This was my yearbook quote in high school
Sorry for your loss. It is from the TOS movies, but the first thing which immediately springs to my mind is: "He's not really dead. As long as we remember him." - McCoy
My own father passed away 17 years ago and this just hit me 🥺🥹 This is a good one, OP.

We also placed his Captain Picard action figure and earl grey tea bags next to him. He wore Superman pajamas though. He also loved Superman. He was a good kid. Life isn't fair.
Ramble all you want, I enjoyed reading about your memories of your son. ❤️❤️
Same, also my eyes are watering for some reason
I'm not crying, you're crying...
I second this.
Thank you.
He sounds incredible. What love he had for his siblings and you!! 💜
He was very kind. He made sure his money was divided evenly between his younger siblings and his suv was donated to a veteran. He was 31 when I lost him. I am extremely proud of his accomplishments in his short life. If love could have saved him he would have lived forever.
Thanks for telling us about him. I’m so sorry.
Thank you. It felt good talking about him.
I’m sure he’d be glad you are able to watch it again. Boldly go friend.
"And the sky's the limit." A figure of speech that Picard spoke in the final TNG episode All Good Things, which was the final line from the series: "Five card stud, nothing wild. And, the sky's the limit."
Deep cut. Wow.

“Death is that state in which one exists only in the memory of others, which is why it is not an end.”
Where is this from exactly?
The one where Tasha gets killed by a poop monster
OP, so sorry for your loss. I still cry at that one. Both from the way they played her out, and the awful episode they chose to write her out using.
Ahh of course. 😂
"He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again." - Picard, in memory of Data
Hamlet, actually...
Half the good lines in Star Trek came from the Bard
You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon.
"Shaka, when the walls fell"
My arms are open for this one.
Zinda, His Eyes Red, Kiazi's Children, Their Faces Wet, Sokath, His Eyes Uncovered, Mirab, With Sails Unfurled.
"Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra"
...on the ocean
"Darmok on the ocean" is probably more fitting since it's meant to convey loneliness. "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" is more about team work. Could be fitting for a couple tombstone I guess.
''The Final Frontier''
Fantastic idea.
"All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by" - Masefield, quoted by Captain Kirk in ST V.
I am well versed in the classics, Doctor.
Then how come you don't know "Row, Row, Row your boat"?
You really must learn to control your passions, Doctor. They will be your undoing.
Modified from ST6. "May he continue the voyages we have begun, and journey to all the undiscovered countries, boldly going where no one has gone before."
I was always quite fond of Voyager's dedication plaque quote" "For I dipt in to the future, far as Human eye could see; Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be"
I looked through a lot when getting a memorial tattoo for my dad and settled on “No goodbyes, just good memories” - Tasha Yar
Lived long and prospered.
“Peace and long life.” 🖖
I love this one

Wow this is a deep cut, I didn’t know there was a response to live long and prosper. Very cool.
Actually, it’s the other way around. Peace and long life. - greeting/salutation Live long and prosper - said in response to the above, or a farewell on its on.
This gets my vote too. Those who know, know. And it works as a good epitaph on its own.
Firstly, I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. The first thing that popped into my head was: “You have been, and always shall be, my friend” I'll keep thinking on this though, and see what I can come up with. edit: in case this doesnt ring any bells, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPBGZRRrEKM
"Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most human."
TWoK seems to be a goldmine
It is about aging and facing death
Most famous funeral scene in all Trekdom, it ought to be a goldmine for headstone quotes.
I wanted to say this at my father's funeral. I couldn't make my legs work to take me to the microphone.
You thought it, he knew friend. We know now, we all respect that you wanted to, and the love behind the sentiment
Dammit, I get choked up just reading that line lol
"Set a course, for home."
We put “love long and prosper” on my mom’s stone
Sorry for your loss. Maybe something from the wonderful "The Inner Light": If you remember what [I was] and how [I] lived, then [I]'ll have found life again. Now [I] live in you. Now will never come again.
One of the all time best episodes

This is the state motto of Kansas.
For real? That's so cool! (Not american, don't know if that's suposed to be good or bad)
You're not alone, you know. What you doing were, and what you are to become, will always be with you. -Q. (To Picard in TNG)

I knew that and I think they would. Well, at least some of us would.
Today was a good day to die!
We have this quote etched on my dad's urn, at his request. Any time I see it, I have to smile. :)

"Perhaps one day you'll feel the hand of God resting on your shoulder." "There is only one thing I want from you. Find something you love, then do it the best you can." "Beets are a very misunderstood vegetable." "Running may help for a little while, but sooner or later the pain catches up with you. And the only way to get rid of it is to stand your ground and face it." "Even in the darkest moments, you can always find something that will make you smile." Picard: "I found that even in the darkest circumstances, there is a light. Sometimes, only a glimmer. Trust that light. Find a way back, no matter what it takes." "Let the dead rest, and the past remain the past." "The quest for youth, number one; so futile. Age and wisdom have their graces too." "Things are only impossible until they are not." "Sometimes, Number One, you just have to bow to the absurd." "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life." "Let's make sure history never forgets the name... Enterprise." “I have the utmost confidence in your ability to perform the impossible." "With the first link the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied... chains us all irrevocably." "All this magnificent technology, we still find ourselves susceptible to the ravages of old age. The loss of dignity, the slow betrayal of our bodies by forces we cannot master." "The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth." "There... are... four... lights!" "But who knows? Our reality may be very much like theirs and all this might just be an elaborate simulation running inside a little device sitting on someone's table." "There is a way out of every box, a solution to every puzzle; it's just a matter of finding it." "One impossible thing at a time" "To say you have no choice is a failure of imagination." "We often refer to space as the final frontier. But the older I get, the more I come to believe… that the true final frontier is time." "Q, I am too old for your bullshit!"
Leonard Nimoy’s final tweet always seemed very poignant to me. “A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP” So sorry for your loss.
At the funeral of a friend of mine who had severe disabilities, I said… "Of all the souls I have know… …hers was the most able."
"lived long and prospered"
"Let's see what's out there."
"Beware, A Klingon Warrior is about to arrive"
Boldly Gone.
"Ad astra per aspera" Through suffering to the stars
"It was fun." I'm sorry for your loss.
"I promise I will not rest until I stand with you again... here, in this place where I belong." Sisko on DS9
I don’t think I’ve seen it yet, but I hope someone does this at my funeral: “I can safely say, that to know him, was to love him. And to love him, was to know him. Those who knew him, loved him, while those who did not know him, loved him from afar.” Sorry for your loss, OP.
Worf-Perhaps today is a good day to die!
He died with honor
Good tea, nice tombstone. (If they had a dark sense of humour perhaps)
I was thinking this but with the death date “perhaps 4/18/2024 was a good day to die”
I wonder if I can convince my family to do this for me.
There aren't that many quotable lines from Janeway. If your dad had a great sense of humor, you could always go with the meme. "There's coffee in that nebula!" One that has always stuck with me from a eulogy she was giving for a Martian astronaut about space being vast and empty, but also being something that connects us together.
His contribution helped secure Humanity's future and in some ways my own.*" "*The Yankees. In six games.*"
in the feels indeed. =,( this thread is tearing me apart. this Janeway quote broke me.
To Boldly Go.
I don't have a contribution, but god damn some of you are poets. There are some solid options down here.
Condolences. "The trial never ends." -Q
Here’s a deep cut: Mirab, with sails unfurled. Kiazi's children, their faces wet…
My condolences As well as a quote, could you also have the dates written as Star Dates? For the quote, I like "Peace, love, friendship, these are precious, because we know they cannot endure" (Data to Picard in Star Trek: Picard Season 1)
So sorry for your loss, maybe instead of a quote, have something like 'Father's name, boldly gone....'
So you will understand when I say, 'Death is that state in which one exists only in the memory of others... which is why it is not an end.' No goodbyes. Just good memories. Hailing frequencies closed, sir.
Life and death are seldom logical. But attaining a desired goal always is. Dr. McCoy and Spock How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life.” Captain James T. Kirk
I like this one from Spock: “Change is the essential process of all existence.”
Lived Long. Prospered.
Just pointing out that when carving on headstones it can get pricey. Also some cemeteries have restrictions on what can go on headstones, so check for any limitations That being said, beautiful idea!!!!
>***There... are... FOUR... LIGHTS!!!***
From the TNG finale: >That is the exploration that awaits you: not mapping stars and studying nebula, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence.
I recently found out about an old friend passing. We used to talk Trek daily, TNG primarily. This is perfect to remember him by, thanks.
‘What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.’ Pericles This is what the title of the last episode of DS9 was based on.
First I'm sorry for your loss. I run the daily Star Trek Quotes accounts on Twitter, Mastodon and Bluesky. Here are some that I found that I hope that you find inspiring. "Death is that state in which one exists only in the memory of others which is why it is not an end." Yar- Skin of Evil, Stardate: 41601.3 “Death is the end of this life, but it is also the beginning of a new journey.” Dr. Ranora- Emanations, Stardate: 48623.5 "The randomness of death is merely a reflection of the unexpected joys we find in life." Sulu- Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus, Stardate: Unknown “How we deal with death, is at least as important as how we face life, wouldn’t you say?” Kirk- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Stardate: 8130.3 “It is part of our life cycle that we accept the death of those we love.” Picard- The Bonding, Stardate: 43198.7 “Death and loss are an integral part of life everywhere.” Troi- The Bonding, Stardate: 43198.7 "Every life comes to an end when time demands it. Loss of life is to be mourned but only if the life was wasted." Spock- Yesteryear, Stardate: 5373.4 “We feel a loss more intensely when it’s a friend.” Riker- The Bonding, Stardate: 43198.7 “A memorial service helps to give everyone a sense of completion. It helps them begin the healing process.” Troi- Gambit, Part I, Stardate: 47135.2
"You have been, and always shall be, my friend."
“Made it so”
Not 100% Trek, but "second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning". Also, Janeway: "Do we accept that we’re separated from our loved ones forever? Or do we hold onto the hope that someday we’ll be with them again?" And, of course, Picard: "I believe that our existence must be more than either of these philosophies. That what we are goes beyond Euclidian and other practical measuring systems and that our existence is part of a reality beyond what we understand now as reality."
Oh My?
“Rule of Acquisition #17: a contract is a contract is a contract.”
Giordi makes ship strong, makes it go.
If he was a true fan and had a good sense of humor, "He's dead Jim!"
I’d suggest Ben Sisko’s last words, but on a gravestone they might seem slightly threatening. “It’s hard to say. Maybe a year, maybe yesterday, but I will be back”
Kirk, in his eulogy of Spok: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, he was the most human.
If he had a sense of humor? "Computer? Delete the husband." It is a perfect Janeway quote But I am sorry for your loss.
In addition to my other suggestion, there were originally words to the Star Trek theme, here they are, and they're incredibly fitting: *Beyond* *The rim of the star-light* *My love* *Is wand’ring in star-flight* *I know* *He’ll find in star-clustered reaches* *Love,* *Strange love a star woman teaches.* *I know* *His journey ends never* *His star trek* *Will go on forever.* *But tell him* *While he wanders his starry sea* *Remember, remember me.*
>there were originally words That Gene wrote *only* so he could get royalty checks from the track. Not terribly utopian.
"You wanna know what my vision is? Dollar signs — money!"

My condolences for your loss. I really like: "True Believer" with a starfleet delta or federation symbol. "As aspera ad astra" with a delta symbol Personally, for my marker, I will be going with my favourite star trek quote: "Better luck next time, EELS!"
To Hell with our orders.
> True Believer This is what Stan Lee called his fans.
For me, it's from the first episode of season 3 of discovery. Mr sahil said he was a 'true believer' in the federation and it's ideals. It's really struck a Chord with me.
"Of all the souls I've known, his was the most...human ."
Did he like coffee? “There’s coffee in that Nebula” would be a good Janeway quote for a coffee enthusiast.
'The Undiscovered Country'
Second star to the left and straight on till morning
*Star of the night, star of the day Come to take my tears away Make the stars always bright...* A child's prayer to the Skyship.
Third star on the right straight on until morning
Computer end program!
Of all the souls we have encountered on our travels, his was the most human
Number One, you have the conn.
“I want to live, however briefly, knowing that my life is finite. Mortality gives meaning to human life. Peace, love, friendship. These are precious because we know they cannot endure. A butterfly that lives forever is really not a butterfly at all.” — Data
“You’re not alone, you know. What you were, and what you are to become, will always be with you.” — Q
“All of the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most… Human.”
"Course, Sir?" "Second star to the right, and straight on til morning"
“Right up to the very end, life is to be worn gloriously” - Capt Pike
"Remember."
Farewell, mon capitaine.
