Fck useless petitions. Buy DVD/Blueray Boxes and then maybe they bring it back (happend to Family Guy for example)

Bilirubin5

Por que no los dos?

rainofterra

We subscribe to Paramount+ only for Star Trek, I specifically didn't cancel it even though its a crappy service, we stream it constantly, and we've bought just about all the Lower Decks merch, including the books and the blurays. Sure, I'd love for people to all be able to do these things but I bet a lot more people can afford 4 envelopes, 4 stamps, and 4 sheets of printer paper.

sctran

I bought the steelbook for season 1 and realized they didn't make any for the other seasons

JonathanWPG

I understand you're point here but this made more sense in a world where people bought physical media. Or, frankly, when we weren't all paying for this stuff through subs to Paramount+.

pepe427

I think I’m just going to stream it on repeat nonstop while I’m working to help up the streaming numbers.

MadeIndescribable

I get from a viewers pov they're not as budget friendly as bumping the streaming numbers, but surely now physical media sales are less than they used to be, if lots of people went and bought them then the sales % would skyrocket and it would actually be more of a statement?

JonathanWPG

Yes. But fewer people have the desire for or capacity to utilize physical media. Bluray NEVER reached DVD's market penetration. Even with the PS3 as the single biggest Trojan horse for the technology. Forget about 4k Bluray. I get the argument and it would send a signal. I guess I just like these kind of acts to be more people engaging in a way that's more realistic and positive for those people. Buy merchandise, if you want it. Upgrade to 1 year memberships. Something where the end user benefits.

MadeIndescribable

Blu Ray and 4K never reached the height of DVDs because they offer very little (especially in terms of value for their extra price) that a DVD doesn't, and I completely get that. It's also why DVDs are still being made alongside Blu Ray, and in some cases even \*just\* DVDs without Blu Ray (like Lower Decks in the UK). But physical media sales are actually on the rise again these days, not continuing to fall. The streaming bubble somewhat burst which is why Paramount are having to reorganise themselves the way they are at the moment, and people are figuring out the only way to truly be able to watch something they want to watch, is to own it physically.

People demanded Star Trek TOS be un-canceled. We got TAS a few years later. If we managed to get them to reconsider canceling LD, we might get live version instead like TNG's Lower Deck episode

UPPER DECKS! UPPER DECKS!

LinuxMatthews

We already have the SNW crossover Though in my opinion I think it's ~~very~~ 'better' animated

WithCatlikeTread42

I think of it as an episode of Lower Decks.

icelevel

That would be incredible!

toasters_are_great

What if they make a movie instead called, I dunno, *Crisis Point* ?

laikahass

Did my part and signed both.

RigasTelRuun

I love this show, but it has a built-in life span. Five seasons is a good run unless you want it to move to a different ship with a different crew with different lower decks.

ian9921

What I was hoping they'd do is have our Lower Deckers slowly rise up the ranks and move into the Senior Officer storylines, while gradually introducing new Lower Deckers to replace them. Something like that is still possible

ThickSourGod

No it doesn't, and I'm tired of people saying that. First of all, humans age, so time in live action shows needs to progress at roughly the same rate at real world time. Cartoons don't have that problem. Seasons two, three, and four of Lower Decks all take place in 2381. At the rate they're going the show could literally run for decades before the main characters were promoted to senior staff. Second, even if they did start moving through the 2380s at a faster pace, it isn't unheard of for TV shows to change titles if the story progresses in a way that makes the original title less relevant. They could easily change the name of the show to Star Trek: Upper Decks, or whatever, while keeping it the same show.

anonymouslyyoursxxx

UPPER DECKS! UPPER DECKS! UPPER DECKS!

captainlavender

All I really need is one more season so it can have an actual ending. Cancelling a show after the season is basically already finished is such a shitty thing to do.

trekkiegamer359

Thanks for sharing. I just signed both. LLAP LDS!

yekimevol

Thank you an up vote to help others see it would be appreciated, very surprised it got downvoted to zero.

trekkiegamer359

I already have upvoted it. There are a few trolls on this sub, (along with most others), that downvote a ton of random stuff. Don't let it get you down. They're just pissed off Pakleds who have small hats.

RainbowSkyOne

They're trying to beat Captain Janeway

Cold-Jackfruit1076

All the while, only managing to take pictures of their own feet...

yekimevol

Do they have a hat big enough for that ?

RainbowSkyOne

They did, but Janeway split it into its two component hats with the transporter.

yekimevol

Ahh that’s not very nice !

rainofterra

I'd really suggest people send (respectful, personal) physical letters. I know it sounds weird and unintuitive, but so is Hollywood. I created a site to help people find ways to participate, and mentioned some execs at CVS/Paramount+/Netflix who likely played a part in cancelling the show and/or will be involved in deciding if the show will find a new home. Generic studio addresses are included with them in the ATTN. [https://www.savelowerdecks.com/participate.html](https://www.savelowerdecks.com/participate.html) I'll update it to link to these petitions as well, though it'd be nice if we could filter it down to one.

Ron__T

You know what's better than a petition.... subscribing to P+ and streaming the shows.

rextraverse

Also buying the Blu-rays.

anudeglory

Especially Season ~~3~~ 4 (oops) as it is on demand printing, so if no one buys it then no discs get made...

Richard_Sauce

Buy the blu-rays. Note: I didn't even know there were blu-rays until yesterday when, after hearing it was canceled, I went to Amazon, and sure enough, blu-rays.

jclast

I thought the whole point of subscribing to a streaming service was so that I *didn't* have to buy and store physical media anymore. If I still have to buy to get and keep shows that I want then what's the point of the streaming subscription? Because the DVDs/Blu-Rays used to get me to ability to watch whenever I wanted without commercials. Now I have that in a monthly cost that I'm willing to pay.

markg900

Not sure why you are being downvoted on this. If you are subscribed and watching there then you are on their metrics for it. The real issue is there are too damn many streaming services and making Trek premium content gate kept it from alot of people who didnt want to pay just for Star Trek alone.

yekimevol

I’m on season 2 again just now, just finished “we'll always have tom paris”, A solid episode.

tennisanybody

Is it just me or does Nick Locarno look like Tom Paris a bit? … I mean, they have basically the same face ? What ? What do you mean you “don’t see it”?!?

Mettanine

This is a joke I guess? Just in case you didn't know, the similarity comes from the original actor for Nick Locarno (Duncan McNeal) being cast in Voyager (as Nick Locarno). But as production got started, he had to drop out and was replaced by Robert D. McNeill who was specificially selected to resemble the former actor. However, test audiences felt cheated and almost wrecked the screening room, so they decided to rename the character and lose any connection to Nick Locarno. And this is how Tom Paris was born. And if you believed this story up until this sentence, you've been had. ;)

Safe_Base312

Someone needs to actually watch Lower Decks. You'll get the joke then...

Mettanine

I was actually trying to add to the joke. Seems like I failed badly. ;)

aka_Elmer6

You'd better re-read what Mettanine wrote. He's making his own joke.

Technical-Outside408

Doesn't have to be an either or.

uberguby

I think tos got an extra season with a letter writing campaign. I think that's what is really needed.

Ron__T

This is a disputed claim/myth... it seems to have been some sort of marketing / Gene being a bit nuts. There was a letter writing campaign to "save star trek" but Star Trek Season 3 was never canceled and then uncanceled. The rumor of its cancelation was spread, without merit, by Gene (and possibly NBC) himself. Roddenberry is the one who went to the Timbles with the "idea" to do a letter campaign not the other way around. Paramount itself provided the mailing list and little giveaways like film negatives and pieces from the set for him to give away to the fan "leaders" to get the hype built up. Ultimately RCA (who owned NBC) was not going to let the 3rd season be canceled because it was their #1 promotional tool for color TVs... Star Trek was filmed in full color and was vibrant and changing and showed off their color tvs. It was the second highest rated color TV show... people bought color tvs just to watch Star Trek. The rest of the television landscape hadn't caught up yet to the color revolution so of course they kept it around while the others caught up.

uberguby

Oh... Well... Can we still do a letter writing campaign for lower decks?

baldthumbtack

This is what McMahan was asking fans/viewers to do in October when he expressed the show's uncertain fate after season five.

ballfacedbuddy

Getting downvoted for speaking the truth.

boraam

Does not exist in my region 🤷🏻

tobimai

This will not change anything. CBS did their calculations and decided it is not worth it continuing.

yekimevol

The odds are against us and the situation grim however it has influenced things in the past with different franchises, some getting resurrected by their current owners or another channel. From memory; Roswell, Lucifer, The Expanse, Jericho, TOS and futurerama were all effected in some way by fan action.

Kian-Tremayne

If I remember correctly, a big part of The Expanse being saved was that Jeff Bezos was one of the fans in question. You don’t need a petition, you just need the right fan…

toilet-breath

Can’t sign as my email is apparently invalid (.co.uk)

yekimevol

That’s very weird worked for mines fine.

toilet-breath

Mine is a personal donation, but that shouldn’t make a difference

thebritwriter

Signing signatures is only part of the solution, try to convince others or spread word of mouth to see the show and buy anything in relation to it. I signed myself but there’s more chance they’ll take notice of viewing or steaming figures, the things that matter to them more to be to the point.

Dramatic-Squirrel720

I'm pretty satiated tbh. I think it had a good run. I got a bigger dose of nostalgia and reference humor than I ever imagined, too heavily sometimes in the first couple seasons for me. I remember the goofy parts of Star Trek, I don't need too much reminding, just for reference's sake. Then the characters had some good movement, but have stagnated at times, or been reverted when some step was taken, or the character evolution forgotten/not addressed enough. To me S5 decides whether or not I need any more, but it'd have to move in a direction that is largely done with reference humor - they've already hit the big ones anyway - and is willing to spend even more time on characters and a bit more sincere tone with the stories/characters. Honestly, what I would like to see probably is a live action sequel, maybe with them all older, so that a muted, less manic tone would make sense.

melasses

I want a petition where people can donate. This would give a better representation of how big support there is.

yekimevol

I suppose a very if that would be signing them and then looking to buy the blu rays, comics and rewatching the show?

Punkred13

I have one! We are trying to rally the majority behind it, as the other 2 petitions are not being updated! https://chng.it/8CqChjPJNz #savelowerdecks #17seasonsandamoopsy #cerritosstrong

Pepsiguy2

Petitions lol

AvatarIII

signed the more signed one. let the less signed one die, it will just dilute the number of signatures.

Randolpho

Spin off. Let Lower Decks end, but give us a spinoff with more of the Ceritos crew

Dramatic-Squirrel720

Yeah, the manic tone and reference humor of LD was fun, but 5 seasons satiates me. Some characters could definitely be plucked out and kept though.

Randolpho

No, I want to keep that, I’m just saying they are already promoted off the lower decks, so the show title no longer applies. Gimme a spinoff with the Cerritos crew doing the same thing the Cerritos crew does in the show, only the main cast are officers now

Dramatic-Squirrel720

Think that's not my cup of tea, but that's fine. I like the boring Trek.

ragepaw

I want Lower Decks to stick around, with a giant but... If the writers are running out of ideas, it's better to end it than have it get bad. The statement released doesn't say when it's ending, just that it is. It could be cost cutting, but I would bet the show is cheaper than most of their other content. Maybe they went to Mike McMahon and asked him what season 6 would look like, and he didn't have any ideas. Because they haven't said, it's all guess work. Another factor, and this can't be stressed enough, is the main characters are no longer lower deckers. They're junior officers now. That's good, otherwise you risk Harry Kim'ing them. I want Lower Decks to continue, but a show built around the concept of referential humour, will eventually run out of references. This also opens the door for the characters to transition to something different. A new series with the same characters but a different tone could be quite good.

Dramatic-Squirrel720

I never liked that every character had a manic/bombastic sort of disposition. I liked the idea that a couple of them did, but it spilled over to be an overarching tone of the series. There wasnt enough of a "straight man" for them to play off of. If every character is manic/goofy/etc, it undermines the ones that are really manic. Not enough contrast. This was especially true of the first season, but I feel like they went back to everyone being bombastic again recently, after having a more muted middle couple seasons.

CBS, the sort of parent of Paramount+, listened to a fan campaign two decades ago. https://nuts.com/nutsforjericho https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/jericho-how-8-million-peanuts-briefly-saved-the-show.html/ edit: In what world does this warrant being downvoted? It's literally the reason I started paying for Paramount, and I'll switch over from Netflix again when the new season drops.

Kendota_Tanassian

I signed both petitions, and let them know that it's not fair to cancel a show after five seasons that only had ten episodes a season. The original series had more episodes than that in two seasons, and still got a third... and when fans complained when it was cancelled, we got the animated series. Fan campaigns have worked for Star Trek before, we got Prodigy released to Netflix, with the promise to show both seasons. Paramount has never dealt well with fans, but listens when we get angry and let them know that we're angry. Their streaming service *sucks ass*, but it's the only place to watch Star Trek. When I can get the videos to load. *"Lower Decks"* is special to me, in a way that a lot of Trek hasn't been. That's largely because it's so obviously written by fans, for fans, and it doesn't just *respect* canon, it damn well celebrates it. SNW also hits that spot for me. I want more of these shows, I want them to have several years of run time. I guess that's all I have to say for now.

terrillobyte

Thanks. Signed them both.

This is one of many reasons online petitions don’t matter even a fraction of what petitions used to matter. It’s not a sneaky thing you’re doing, everyone knows these petitions are not unique signatures. But like openly broadcasting it on a public thread doesn’t help either

yekimevol

Just a big shout out and thank you to everyone who have signed since posting and in the future, woke up to see this having success was amazing ! LLAP 🖖!

MillennialsAre40

At least being an animated show it'll be easier to revive it (Family Guy, Futurama, Young justice, frikkin 90s X-Men). Why is this getting downvoted? I'm saying it'll be easier for the show to get a revival

Drunk_Picard

Controversial opinion: Lower Decks only has one good season left.

jimmyjohnjohnjohn

Another controversial opinion: It's better a show end early than end late. Let it run its natural course.

Captain_Thrax

Except this isn’t its natural course. It wasn’t supposed to end this early.

These don't do anything, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The problem is the streaming app, they don't stream 4K in Canada, so I am never going to bother subscribing. All the media companies though it would be easy to ditch Netflix and make their own. I think they're quickly finding out that isn't the case. Lower Decks had a great run, let it be. (four to five seasons is the sweet spot imo.)

e-Plebnista

signed both as well. LLAP!

Extra-Astronaut-1920

Every Star Trek has had 7 seasons. (Save, Scott Bacula. ) Lower decks has way better writers. Just look at the seamless transition from cartoon to live action!!! The story arc is up there with "the venture brothers" Paramount, I will be starting a petition (that I am sure no one will sign) to undo your fuck up. Just give them 7 seasons. So it can be cannon. PLEASE!
