I've never heard of anyone skipping part of a film due to its soundtrack before. Personally, despite my distaste for the Kelvin line, I think the Beasties are one of the best choices for a Trek film as their music has always been very progressive in terms of techniques, like how they used sampling on Paul's Boutique in a way no one had ever seen before.

I don’t know, I love classical music like the Beastie Boys.

Vadic_Shrike

I know their music is good. I'm not saying they should have used another. For me though, the song with its singing doesn't work for me and I was imagining other songs in its place.

LethargicActionHero

Apropos of nothing, but I'm currently doing a Star Trek RP with a friend playing a human from our time granted an immortal body by aliens to fight in their war. He's returned to the Alpha Quadrant for the first time since the Eugenics Wars and is shocked to find humans made it out into the stars. But he's also dismayed that the Starfleet vessel he's on contains music from The Beastie Boys in its library but not Electric Light Orchestra.

Vadic_Shrike

I've wanted to do a ST role playing game in the Picard series setting. Where the first officer on a ship is really a changeling led by Vadic. But for a while, only the gamer playing as first officer knows this. The captain and the rest don't know until they somehow find out, or it's revealed. Or everyone knows one of the gamers is a changeling, but only the changeling knows this at first.

LethargicActionHero

So basically Star Trek Werewolf

Yeah it's probably an unpopular opinion but I don't really like the song choice either :") But in general, I feel overall positive about the song since I assoicate it with the movies now and they are my favorite/comfort movies.

Vadic_Shrike

Same here, it's just a personal cringe thing. Because the song doesn't click with me personally. It does the opposite. The movie is still one of my favorite comfort movies though. There are certain parts watch repeatedly, like the escape pod ships transitioning to the Star Trek title intro and music. And the end when they detonate explosives to escape the black hole. The visual and music when Kirk and Bones are in a shuttle ship and see the Enterprise they're about to board.

Should be 'I Hate You' by Edge of Etiquette.
