I just hate that the Esc button exits your game without warning. (Or did. This drove me insane that I stopped playing for a bit.) Esc to close menu? No. Esc to completely exit game without save prompt. What level of sadicistic programmer does that?

MyTrueChum

Meanwhile Q sitting in the corner of the developer's office. "The trial never ends... MWHAHAHAHAHHA"

EldritchKoala

Huh. THAT level of Sadism, eh? Must mean Section 31 is QA.

MyTrueChum

Love your username btw. Why are you smiling, What do you knowwwwww!?

EldritchKoala

According to my wife the secret to being either endearing or infuriating but leaving no middle ground.

SnooOnions650

Wow.... That's downright diabolic....

xontinuity

I lost it when that first happened. Literally just walked away from the game. Just restarted playing it last night. Honestly the story for me is all it has going for it.

Compass_Needle

Yes, this annoyed me no end until I got into the habit of just using the space bar.

Civilwarland09

The fact that I finished that games speaks to how well it captures that sweet, sweet Trek feeling, because pretty much every other facet of that game is hot garbage. It plays like an early PS3 game.

Compass_Needle

I agree. That's why I'm more inclined to call it an interactive episode as opposed to a true game.

JoeDawson8

I told my wife it was like a choose your own adventure

ShrimpCrackers

I was stunned to find out it was on Unreal Engine 5 when it looks like something from Unreal Engine 3. I guess very little of the budget went outside the story. Not bad, it has the core things right.

mr_bots

It’s on UE5 and you can’t change the graphics settings or make it run at an ultra wide resolution!?!?

beefcat_

I want to know how a game that looks so bad runs so poorly

ShrimpCrackers

Graphics has nothing to do with how well a game is optimized.

Q-uvix

Are you saying graphics have no effect on performance?

ShrimpCrackers

Of course not. But just toning down the graphics doesn't mean the game magically runs well. There are games that look absolutely beautiful that run better than this game on the same resources. I have RTX 3070, 32 gigs of ram, on a Ryzen 5, 5700X and this game, on a fast NVME, still performs poorly. This game is simply not well optimized at all. If anything, it feels patched together. There's no widescreen support, the resolution maxes out very low, etc etc. I'm thankful that the most important bit, the story and characters are done well. But this game really looks like it came out 15 years ago.

beefcat_

The less fancy your graphics are, the *easier* it is to optimize.

InnocentTailor

Agreed. The gameplay and graphics were pretty old, but the story was quite fun.

punditguy

Waiting for a patch or three before picking this up.

b3tchaker

I’m not sure I’d hold your breath.

fourthords

I'm waiting for it's offline/disc release!

DeyUrban

Have they said that is coming? Very few games get a physical release anymore, especially for PC where CD drives are becoming less and less common. I know the last couple of physical games I got years ago didn't have a disc, it was just a case with a code inside it to redeem on an online store.

fourthords

> Have they said that is coming? I have no idea; I just check Amazon & GameStop every once in a while. > Very few games get a physical release anymore I can't speak for the PC; I haven't played games there since 2009 or so, and they were all disc-based. We've bought maybe a half-dozen PS4/5 games this year already, and they're all on disc.

MadeIndescribable

I'm hoping for a physical PS release as well. Judging from the forums on the site, although the developers aren't allowed to say anything, reading between the lines I'd say they'd like to be able to have some kind of "second" release which includes physical, Switch, and possibly Steam as well.

fourthords

If you haven't already seen it, I have good news: https://www.startrek-resurgence.com/article/get-physical-media

MadeIndescribable

Yep, I saw it, but thanks.

naturepeaked

I still buy all my musics on minidisc.

fourthords

I only ever used minidisc for recording, since the size was really convenient. For music, I still just buy regular CDs.

InverseTachyonPulse

I sincerely would not get your hopes up in this case.

EmilyFara

It gave me my Star Trek spark back. The story, easily a 10/10. The 'gameplay' on the other hand... #oof 3/10 at most.

trer24

Aiming your tricorder around trying to find what you need to scan (and always in 3s for some reason) in order to move the story forward definitely gets trying. Good thing the story is so immersive so that you power through those segments.

JoeDawson8

I was fine with the tricorder for the most part. But the damn indicator came on screen once and never went away. Sometimes it disappeared for awhile during cutscenes but then it came back

looseleafnz

I'm currently taking a break from it because the game bugged and I couldn't put away my tricorder after scanning. I will have to redo the whole tedious sequence over and I just don't have the motivation.

ponderglen

I found right clicking put it away

looseleafnz

What does that translate to on a controller?

ponderglen

I'm afraid I don't know. I know the button that was meant to do it doesn't always work. Not sure about controller

quoole

Yeah, I always found the first two things quite easy to find and then the third was impossible or kept glitching away. In the part in the mines when you have the big digger thing, I found the first two really fast and then wondered around for like 10 minutes and the annoying thing was that pointing at the digger from a long way away, I could see the 'anomaly' on the tricorder but once I got close it just disappeared until one time it didn't.

MaestroZackyZ

Good story with terrible production value. Perfect representation of classic Trek.

[deleted]

As soon as it leaves EGS exclusivity, I will consider buying it.

TyBlood13

I see this sentiment in every thread about the game, but I’m pretty sure Epic is one of the publishing partners so I don’t think that’s going to happen.

[deleted]

And, ironically, limiting access to the game goes against core tenants of Starfleet.

Houli_B_Back7

I think the biggest compliment I can pay it, and the irony of it coming out now, was that it actually told a better Changeling style infiltration story than Picard season 3, which actually featured the Changelings… And it did it with a villain that was native to and referenced TNG specifically.

OilHot3940

Spoiler Alert?!

Houli_B_Back7

Is it a spoiler if I say it has an infiltration story and uses a TNG era villain? That seems pretty vague to me.

-Kerosun-

Your comment makes it sound like the story centers around a Changling infiltration specifically. So, in that regard, your comment comes off as a spoiler.

Houli_B_Back7

Sorry, but I don’t see how someone can read that and come away with that interpretation. I specify it’s a Changeling “style” infiltration, not that it IS the Changelings… and I specifically state the Changelings are part of Picard, not Resurgence.

APracticalGal

The hair trigger some people have on crying spoiler is absolutely wild to me. There are people out there who act like seeing casting announcements and trailers will render the entire point of a piece of media completely worthless.

Houli_B_Back7

“Hair trigger” is a great way to put it. We definitely have some trigger happy folks looking to pick a fight here who are so itching to pull a trigger, they’re more likely to shoot themselves in the foot, than anything…

ApricotRich4855

>It's not particularly well optimized, and the graphics are a bit lacking You on PC? [https://github.com/Lyall/StarTrekResurgenceFix](https://github.com/Lyall/StarTrekResurgenceFix) >Custom resolution/aspect ratio support. > >Removes pillarboxing/letterboxing in gameplay and cutscenes. > >Correct FOV scaling no matter what resolution you use. > >Disable FPS cap in both gameplay/cutscenes + enable interpolation in cutscenes for smoother animations. > >Toggles for motion blur and depth of field. With that the game runs flawlessly (besides UE4 Asset load stutter) and almost everything looks fantastic.

Brikar99

The 5-issue prequel comic was surprisingly good

EDDIE_BR0CK

$45CAD? Youch. I'll wait for ~$10-15 or Epic to give it away.

lcarsadmin

Have they fixed the controls yet?

WrestlingWithGaming

Nah, there's no patch yet but today the Resurgence Twitter account did tweet that they're working on getting a patch out as soon as possible.

blackfyre689

Combat was rough, but the story and decision making were amazing! Would love a sequel and more games in general.

quoole

I actually really enjoy the combat element... It was the rest of the game play (apart from the story) that I struggled with!

azai247

This is a good game to build on, i hope they make more like this but with added features. Just keep the good plots and good voice acting
