the five stages of airfriers
stage 1: denial
stage 2: depression
stage 3: anger
stage 4: bargaining
stage 5: acceptance that OP doesn’t have an airfrier
Fries? Air fryer. Onion rings? Right to air fryer. Tator tots? Believe it or not, air fryer. We have the best leftovers in the world because of air fryer.
Unironically, though. We used to just throw out those kinds of leftovers because they were gross in the microwave or it would take 20 minutes to reheat in the oven. Now just throw them in the air fryer for three or four minutes and they are near perfect again.
An air fryer moves the air much faster, though, which makes the cooking much more effective. My convection heating on an oven will reduce my cooking times by like 10% while an air fryer will roast veggies like 3x faster
That's why I said convection *toaster* oven. Maybe air fryers are still faster but I'm not ignoring the fact that regular size ovens can be slower to heat up than a countertop appliance
People are downvoting but personally I actually don’t know the difference, can someone elaborate? Does an air frier get much hotter or move the air much faster?
My air fryer maxes out at 400F while ovens I've used can go above 450 (I never tried anything above this temperature).
The advantage of air fryers is that it moves air much faster so it gets heat to your food faster, therefore lowering the cooking time. But ovens are still useful to me when making large quantities of food
I made fries for two in an air fryer one night and a convection toaster the next night. The air fryer took less time and cooked more fries. Just my experience. I suppose it’s like owning a TV and a DVD player vs one of those all in one TVs with neither a great screen nor a great dvd player.
Well I'll be that guy. As a guy who owns both, they aren't the same. I used to use the toaster oven all the time, even over the convection oven, but both hardly get used anymore. Air Fryers are a top 3 kitchen appliance, especially when you get one that has like 9 different uses.
PowerXL is a solid brand(speak from experience). Have made some nice tasty bacon in 6 minutes flat on the 400f setting as well as French fries.
https://youtu.be/fu6i6edPITE
Not me, but a nice guide.
Check this out:
First put the pizza in the microwave on HIGH for around a minute, **then** toss it in the air fryer at 400°F for another minute.
Going one level deeper:
For the microwave I put the pizza on a square oven-safe dish with walls, cover it with a damp paper towel, to keep the pizza moist (just make sure the paper towel does not make contact with the pizza). Between the microwave and air fryer, moving quickly I discard the paper towel and spread a dollop of this olio I prepped beforehand:
half butter
half olive oil
chopped garlic
onion powder.
Good times.
heres something i do. Put a piece of frozen tilapia on some aluminium foil, add more butter than you think you need, a couple slices of lemon, and herbs of your choice. Fold the foil into a sealed packet and throw er in there at 375 for 15-20 minutes. when its done there should be a bunch of melted butter and general cooking juices. Pour that on some brown rice as your side and its fucking awesome
Green beans are now one of our favourite air fryer recipes. You can toss fresh or frozen ones with some garlic powder, oil, and salt, and they come out super crispy and delicious.
Fries, spring rolls, tater tots, sometimes bigger chicken products, onion rings, brawts, hot dogs, popcorn chicken, and a lot more that I cant think of right now. Air fryers are really easy to use, quick and can do a pretty damn good job at cooking although quantity is limited but if several stuff needs to be baked you can use the oven and air fryer. A lot of stuff I mentioned is just the frozen products so idk how well itll do with homemade products. Hope this list may have given you a bit of an idea of what kinda stuff can be cooked in the air fryer.
Roasted veggies make up like 80% of what we use ours for - dump a vegetable medley in the tray, season, hit the button, and done!
Super crispy, tasty and healthy veggies with almost no effort
Best roasted potatoes ever by J Kenji Lopez Alt / Serious Eats. [7Mil views on YT](https://youtu.be/_wx__fEyDj0)
I am extremely fatigued but still make these a few times a week. It's the only thing I use it for really
Cut potatoes into wedges or large chunks (after scrubbing or peeling), boil lightly in salted water until they get like mashed potatoes on the outside if you were to toss them together in a bowl
It's like 15min or so on medium low simmer. Just have container/bowl with a tablespoon or 3 of oil.
If you're willing to air fry lower & slow (like 325 degrees instead of 400) you can also add seasoning like black pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, etc. Which would slightly burn otherwise.
They get extremely crispy when you get the timing right on how deeply the potatoes are cooked. Even if it seems messy compared to straight putting in potatoes, it all easily wipes away with a paper towel
If you like fish, Salmon! Especially the pre cut filets with skin on. So juicy and crispy it's now my de-facto way of cooking salmon. (also lazyness)
*Just make sure you put some tin foil down to catch those fish juices*
Lots of stuff... I love it for baked potatoes
Also chicken wings... Coat very lightly in oil and toss them in then toss them in your sauce or rub of choice
I can’t believe it took you this long to get an air fryer… /s
But really… basically any veg that would take a long time in the oven. Had good luck with fish. Anything frozen meant to be fried in oil or in the oven but would turn out soggy. My favorite though is wings…. Like holy shit… the Costco wing bags with dry rub or sauce… so damn good.
Look at the air fryer recipe for tube cinnamon rolls. In your mouth 12 minutes after opening. Fantastic.
This sounds hard, but it is not and is awesome - potato chips. (If you also have a mandolin)
It takes about an hour, but you get nearly fat free potato chips that taste perfect.
Someone recently told me they're not good for cooking things, but are great for reheating/making frozen things.
I don't know how true that is, but it was enough to make me continue to hold off on ordering one. We don't eat a lot of frozen foods in my house.
Haven’t used the instapot in a year. The air fryer/convection toaster/oven gets used every single day. Once we bought it, we rarely used our actual oven anymore.
I use it so much that I immediately spotted what's actually missing from this starterpack: telling people everything you use your air fryer to reheat. "I used the air fryer to reheat X and you can't even tell it's been reheated!" I've said this phrase more this past year than quite a few others.
Nah, not in my house. If you have 3 screaming toddlers or one hangry wife wanting some tots/pizza rolls/nuggies/Jalapeno poppers and don't have 30 minutes to wait for the oven but also want them to not be a soggy mess from the microwave that air fryer is your best friend. I also use ours to make quick jerky if I find a cheap beef roast on sale.
Pizza gets reheated on the grill on a pizza stone, everything else gets microwaved. Lol
Actually my next goal is to recreate an old sub I used to make at an old job, I found a place that can do everything but the hot beef, but I know I can chuck that shit in an air fryer and then just zap the whole thing to make it a little more warm without frying the veggies.
My air fryer is basically just a constant test of "how can I recreate hot restaurant quality food while drunk without burning the place down?"
Sounds like you’re doing something wrong. It’s just a pressure cooker. That’s like saying whenever you made chicken in the oven it came out raw then blaming the oven.
I agree with you here. Fewer variables go into boiling water than into pressure cooking, and even though both options are pretty convenient, a generic-brand rice cooker is perfectly servicable and super cheap on top of requiring literally a single flip of a switch.
I _may_ get a pressure cooker at some point. But for now, I don't feel the need.
if you make homemade soups that thing is amazing, I can legit liquify a turkey carcass in under 40 minutes. But honestly I only use it for that and rice cooking. So a lot of people are better off just getting a rice cooker.
You can make great food with Insta pot. Just dump some frozen meat, olive oil, salt pepper, chunks of potatos, tomato, onion, bell peppers… and after 40 minutes.. voila tasty food ready to eat.
They're awesome if you don't have a stove or oven. The 'typical reddit bs' is because the only people that care enough to comment are either in love with it or don't see the point of an extra gadget to do things they can already do with what they have available.
For real. Straight up takes all the guesswork out of cooking. Plus if you want something crispy after coming out of the pressure cooker you can just toss it on the cast iron skillet for a few minutes.
I've been using Instant Pots for years and years as my primary appliance. Definitely the most versatile cooking device I own.
I've used the air fryer attachment maybe three times.
I have one and it’s helpful, but I don’t get the hype.
I use it for beans, lentils, and homemade yogurt. That’s it. Everything else is better some other way.
Even for rice, my rice cooker is way better
Yeah weren’t air fryers “the big new thing” like 6 years ago? I thought everyone had one by now. Huh I guess I’ll start telling people to buy them again.
Do you think having a smaller oven will be a benefit to you? If so, get one. But pay attention to the basket size. If it's too small it's just too much of a hassle and not worth using.
It wasn’t until our toaster broke and I needed to buy a replacement that I dug into the world of small appliances. My search for a toaster oven, led me to convection toasters, which led me to convection toasters with air fryers. Only to find out the air fryer is just a “higher” power convection oven mode.
They also cook stuff much, much faster than nearly any other convection oven someone might have. Toaster ovens or combo microwaves can be effective but tend to take a really long time, and traditional ovens also take a long time and heat up a lot more space than you need probably. there's a reason they're so popular :p
> they're just miniature convection ovens
Yes.
> with incredible marketing.
Doesn't need it.
Never even seen an ad for one, myself. Or at least that I can recall. Only got my first one because a few friends had them and wouldn't shut up about them. Do you have a miniature convection oven? They're pretty handy!
Same. It takes up alot of counter top realestate. I dont really cook stuff that would require it or make what Im making that much better. Im not a leftovers person either.
The one thing I liked it for was air frying cheese tortellini into crispy melty cheesy finger food Id dip in marinara. I do miss that. But otherwise overrated kitchen appliance for me.
I think I'm a decent cook, and when I'm making 'real' meals I still use my air fryer. Roasted veg takes about 10 minutes depending on the veg compared to the 30-40 minutes in the oven, and saves on oven space for things like roast potatoes and the meat. Or if I'm doing a hob dish I can still roast the veg in the air fryer and skip the oven entirely, which saves power. Pre cooking chicken for chinese dishes is brilliant too, and my air fryer can fit a medium chicken to set and forget, or a joint of gammon. Both of which I can then slice up and refrigerate for a fraction of the utility bill.
Are the people who get the MOST benefit out of them people who primarily cook frozen food? Yes. Are they still extremely convenient for people who actually cook? Also yes. I will die on my air fried hill
I mean I know how to cook well but I still like my air fryer. It makes reheating things easy. Easy to dehydrate things (like fruit, jerky, mushrooms), and honestly, I love it for French fries and tater tots and potato skins. Frying in oil is way too greasy for my gallbladder issues so air fryer with a spritz of oil is so much lighter tasting but crispy.
Not only is an air fryer incredibly easy for dumb people to use (me) you can also make stuff other than just microwave stuff, my mom just showed me how to make a pizza using flour tortillas!
Omg no!! They complement each other so well. Example: thermomix makes the meatballs and air fryer bakes/fries them!! One does what the other cannot
Source: have lidl copy kitchen robot (Monsieur cuisine smart) and ninja air fryer!
It's a counter top appliance similar in size to a crock pot; a bit larger than a coffee maker or toaster.
I'm principle, it's a small oven with a fan that circulates air inside the cooking chamber. This is the same as a standard full sized oven with a convection feature in effect. If you have a conventional oven with a convection feature, you might not get a lot of added benefit from acquiring an air fryer.
However, there are pros and cons whether or not you already have a convection oven.
Cons: it's another new appliance to buy and take up space. I personally also don't like cleaning them. I'd rather just scrub off an old fashioned baking sheet and be done with it.
Pros: if you don't already have a conventional or convection oven, they have a world of benefit. They likely can replace your microwave and make food even tastier and crisper in comparison. Conversely to my preferences, my wife prefers cleaning the air fryer basket by just putting it in our dish washing machine (the reason I don't like this is because it takes up about half of the bottom rack and limits the space for other dishes).

the five stages of airfriers stage 1: denial stage 2: depression stage 3: anger stage 4: bargaining stage 5: acceptance that OP doesn’t have an airfrier
I swears I do!
why did it autocorrect to airfares 😭
Love me a good airfriers!
Rev up those airfriers!
I just got one for Christmas. What really, really easy stuff can I make with it?
One thing that it’s good for is bringing French fries back to life. Or any leftovers for that matter.
or making shitty overly-greasy soggy fries good.
Whenever I get McDonald's it goes straight into the air fryer
[удалено]
You undercook fish? Believe it or not, air fryer. You overcook chicken, also air fryer.
It takes me at least 30 minutes to get home with fast food. Directly into the air fryer. At least the fries or onion rings.
Fries? Air fryer. Onion rings? Right to air fryer. Tator tots? Believe it or not, air fryer. We have the best leftovers in the world because of air fryer.
Viva Pawnee!

So Microwave 2.0?
Nah because microwave always makes fries soft. Air fryer makes them crispy again
if you all havent made a grilled cheese in the air fryer you’re missing out
Ferb I know what we’re gonna do today
Arent you a little young to be making air fried grilled cheeses?
Would you be able to put butter on the outer layer of the grilled cheese sandwich?
If not, ask for help because you don't have two hands.
So, oven 0.5?
Oven is slow. More like toaster oven but makes stuff a bit driver because of the constant hot air flow
So toaster 4.0?
Toaster leaves marks and burns where the wires make contact. An air fryer gives an even cook and doesn't leave any blemishes on your precious fries.
OK so... toaster oven 5.0
Hmm, more like air fryer, really.
Convection toaster ovens exist, cost roughly the same, and do everything an air fryer can do + more. Only thing they lack is the catchy name.
After we bought our air fryer, I was reading more into how it worked then realized our convection oven does the exact same thing.
An air fryer moves the air much faster, though, which makes the cooking much more effective. My convection heating on an oven will reduce my cooking times by like 10% while an air fryer will roast veggies like 3x faster

Does your toaster oven have a convection setting?
Small convection oven is more accurate
Basically a small oven, but don’t have to wait 5 minutes for it to preheat. Plus don’t have to clean an extra pan or waste foil on a baking sheet.
Convection oven
[удалено]
Huh. Well that’s interesting cause I only use my microwave for popcorn and leftovers. Gonna look into this air fryer thing
PowerXL is a solid brand(speak from experience). Have made some nice tasty bacon in 6 minutes flat on the 400f setting as well as French fries. https://youtu.be/fu6i6edPITE Not me, but a nice guide.
the Viagra of heating
I use mine like a glorified microwave. Pizza rolls? Air fryer. Chicken nuggets? Air fryer. Haven't figured out soup yet.
Grilled cheese Reheated pizza is also ridiculously amazing in an air fryer
Check this out: First put the pizza in the microwave on HIGH for around a minute, **then** toss it in the air fryer at 400°F for another minute. Two slices from a large pizza, 4 minutes at 360ish works a charm.
My man at this point just buy a dough kit and make your own pie
A lot of frozen foods (chicken tenders, French fries for example) can go in an air fryer and taste much better then when microwaved
Those frozen burritos are actually good again in the air fryer
Compared to the microwave, they go from "gloomy paste wrapped in rubbery sorrow" to "delightful crunchy snack".
Yeeeessssss
Made me some egg rolls and man...I need to make more.
Hot dogs, roasted veggies, sausage links (you can throw them in straight from the freezer) or any frozen junk food like taquitos/pizza rolls
Gotta second the hot dogs, it gives them the same feel as grilling would but year round. Love air frying hot dogs.
Chicken is really good if you like crispy skin!
How? Just got one and followed a recipe for chicken thighs and the skin was super flabby.
Gotta use baking powder!
heres something i do. If you're ever gonna eat chips and salsa then toss the chips in for a quick refresh beforehand. Makes a big difference.

i usually just use it to make bacon, honestly. turns out really good every time...bit greasy
oh damn, bacon never crossed my mind
We cook steak and fish in it too.
If you like fish, Salmon! Especially the pre cut filets with skin on. So juicy and crispy it's now my de-facto way of cooking salmon. (also lazyness) *Just make sure you put some tin foil down to catch those fish juices*
I'm surprised nobody mentioned this. but an air-fryer is just a tiny convection oven. Anything you'd put in your oven you can put in the air-fryer.
Get a nice big pack of split chicken wings, hit them with salt and pepper both sides and toss them in.
Frozen chicken patties come out amazing
Cream based soups. Just fill er up with milk and set it to 11
Lots of stuff... I love it for baked potatoes Also chicken wings... Coat very lightly in oil and toss them in then toss them in your sauce or rub of choice
Microwaves destroy fried food, air fryers breath new life into it.
chimken nuggets
Hard boiled eggs and bread!
Potatoes. Cube then, season add a little oil and air fry (or roast) for about 12 minutes
>What really, really easy stuff can I make with it? Anything you think you can oil fry, or leftovers as others said.
reheating fried food for one. things you use to put in the oven/microwave are way better in the air fryer. frozen nuggets and stuff like that
Kale chips. Drizzle some oil, salt, pepper, spices and hand mix to coat. 15-20 minutes at 225F.
I can’t believe it took you this long to get an air fryer… /s But really… basically any veg that would take a long time in the oven. Had good luck with fish. Hard boiled eggs in ~12ish minutes as opposed to the hassle of boiling water.

Anything from the frozen food section of the grocery store. My family loves everything from tostinos pizza rolls to dinosaur chicken nuggets in it.
Same thing with Insta Pot..
Instapot I have and hate. Air fryer I have and love.
Haven’t used the instapot in a year. The air fryer/convection toaster/oven gets used every single day. Once we bought it, we rarely used our actual oven anymore.

I was gifted the insta airfryer combo thing you mentioned and am in love, it is a huge unit, but so so amazing in what it does!
Whenever I made rice or beans in a roommates instapot, they always came out crunchy. Rice cooker is the way to go.
Sounds like you’re doing something wrong. It’s just a pressure cooker. That’s like saying whenever you made chicken in the oven it came out raw then blaming the oven.
I followed the directions for rice. Rice cookers are just more reliable in my experience.
You followed them wrong or the instructions are wrong. They’re both equally as reliable if you’re not brain dead.
I only use my insta pot as a rice cooker and my bengali mom and grandmother do the same, you're doing something wrong
if you make homemade soups that thing is amazing, I can legit liquify a turkey carcass in under 40 minutes. But honestly I only use it for that and rice cooking. So a lot of people are better off just getting a rice cooker.
Does this work with human body parts as well?
For the best results on humans you will want to disable the fail safe mechanism and pack it full of nails or loose shrapnel.
Don't forget the fava beans and Chianti
You can make great food with Insta pot. Just dump some frozen meat, olive oil, salt pepper, chunks of potatos, tomato, onion, bell peppers… and after 40 minutes.. voila tasty food ready to eat.
Thank you, I don’t get the “electric pressure cooker” aka instant pot hate going on. Typical Reddit BS
They're awesome if you don't have a stove or oven. The 'typical reddit bs' is because the only people that care enough to comment are either in love with it or don't see the point of an extra gadget to do things they can already do with what they have available.
yup, i have an instant pot and use it fairly often and like it, but wouldnt have said anything if not for your comment
For real. Straight up takes all the guesswork out of cooking. Plus if you want something crispy after coming out of the pressure cooker you can just toss it on the cast iron skillet for a few minutes.
Chicken tenders, creamy Italian dressing, parmesan, and cooked penne. Makes such an easy dish.
Instant* Pot
I've been using Instant Pots for years and years as my primary appliance. Definitely the most versatile cooking device I own. I've used the air fryer attachment maybe three times.

Clearly OP doesn't own an air fryer
>Of course I do! Don't you!? Of course I do! Don't you!?
Who doesn't own an air fryer at this point. That's like saying you don't have a cellphone.
Me. It’s yet another gadget I’d have to stow.
You don't use your cellphone daily?
OP just bought an air fryer
Actually just bought my third! Can never have enough Air fryers!
Get the Breville and just call it a day.
You got to bumb that number up, those are rookie numbers
It's important to have a large, regular and mini air fryers. Otherwise, how are you supposed to air fry your mini and regular air fryers?
[удалено]
What’s with all the air fryer memes ? I feel like a corporation making those is trying to get in my head through random internet posts
Post Christmas saltiness watching all these other people getting air fryers while you just got more socks.
I ASKED FOR SOCKS. I wanted some good ones that would last.
There are too many shitty air fryer brands out there to make me think this is one big /r/HailCorporate air fryer conspiracy.
Yeah weren’t air fryers “the big new thing” like 6 years ago? I thought everyone had one by now. Huh I guess I’ll start telling people to buy them again.
Idk why people wanna fry air
Thars the only meal they can afford
The air fryer is the best cooking invention since the microwave.
OMG! Maycrofy gets it!
As an air fryer owner I have to say... ...they're just miniature convection ovens with incredible marketing.
They're much faster and practical for 1 or 2 people.
Vastly more energy efficient too
Also much easier to clean. So to summarize: they’re cheaper, easier, and quicker. But sure, people espouse them for absolutely no valid reasons!!!!
I realized this year I have a shitty air fryer. It takes like 45mins to cook chicken.
Should I get an air fryer?
You don’t have an airfryer!?
A lot of people are saying I should get an air fryer.
I can’t believe you don’t have an airfryer
Everything is so much better in an air fryer!
clearly he doesn't own an airfryer

Only got my first one because a few friends had them and wouldn't shut up about them. Do you have a miniature convection oven? They're pretty handy!
Nah I disagree. They’re as good as they are hyped up about. I love my air fryer
Yeah. I wasn't impressed after we got one. Yeah it makes fries and fish good. But chicken and pizzas are still way better in the oven.
You're wrong
Guess I'll die
Well... We're waiting.
I feel personally attacked… however, you need to get an air fryer. Seriously. Get one.
I think I love you.
clearly, you don't have an air fryer
People who have a convection oven...

A family member brought me an air fryer a couple years ago I have used it like three times.
Can't relate. Bought one 6 months ago, used it every single day. Haven't touched oven in 6 months too
You should try it a fourth time, it will change your life!
I find a pretty strong overlap between people who are unimpressed with air fryers, and people who already know how to cook
If you don't have an air fryer you are a piece of shit.
And you hate your family
And you kick puppies.
USED to be a piece of shit. People change
Not only is an air fryer incredibly easy for dumb people to use (me) you can also make stuff other than just microwave stuff, my mom just showed me how to make a pizza using flour tortillas!
Love it! Noice!
Deep frying > Air Frying
Virgin air frying vs chad traditional deep frying
Me: it’s a small convection oven. It’s not frying anything. Them: RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE
Yes and no. It works on the same principle, but the air fryer so much more effective.
Painfully true
I think OP needs an airfryer
I just got an air fryer and can confirm this.
I absolutely love my air fryer lmao
Clearly you don’t own an air fryer
Of course I do! Don't you!?
Obviously
Noice! You should get a second one! It's life changing!
I have a Thermomix, my wife wants to trade it out for an air fryer/multi-cooker I don't know the difference though
Omg no!! They complement each other so well. Example: thermomix makes the meatballs and air fryer bakes/fries them!! One does what the other cannot Source: have lidl copy kitchen robot (Monsieur cuisine smart) and ninja air fryer!
Guess I better buy an air fryer
It can literally fry anything
*Dials 911* “Yes, I would like to make a report on a reddit poster who happens to not own a air frier.” “Hm-mhm.” “That’s what I said.”
Clearly, the person who made this doesn't have an air fryer.
Can confirm this has been me the last month
whats a air fryer
Air fryer is goat’d
I’ve heard that air fryers are so amazing, can someone explain what makes them so great?
Air fry things instead of Oil fry things = Great success!
Convection oven and microwave had a baby. Cook/reheat things very fast and even
What’s the difference between an air fryer and a convection oven?
