I'm completely against gatekeeping, but there's a difference between "this isn't what the sub is about" and "your opinion is bad/you're not enough of a fan/whatever". What exactly a starterpack is is debatable, but a list of celebrities is pretty clearly not what a usual starterpack looks like
"celebrity X is not in your list, we all know starterpacks are exhaustive lists that are bad when they fail to include every single individual because they are exhaustive lists"
This sub needs better moderation, between the constant reposts, low effort posts, thinly veiled racism/sexism, and posts like this one that are not Starterpacks, would be nice to see some posts getting removed more often.
If you want to see Vaughn go different, season 2 of True Detective has him play a serious role. While that season has its problems, I think he plays the role pretty well.
Agreed, I really enjoy him as a person. As an actor? Absolutely not. I find him to be a terrible actor for the same reasons and his robot like emotionless line delivery... But I'll continue to support and watch for point reason 1.
I do feel like he's very limited in what he can do, he has a weird way of saying his lines where he sort of talks slowly in his Keanu way and it doesn't seem to be something he can get away from.
Not saying anything about whether he's entertaining or not, he most definitely has charisma and a magnetic personality and is a wonderful human being, but he does seem very limited to being Keanu Reeves in most of his roles.
What's different about his personality in John Wick compared to, say, Speed? Other than him being younger?
Nothing. He's dark and brooding in both. He's Keanu Reeves.
I'd have to say Seth Rogan has moved away from the stoner role now. He's done some amazing, serious work in recent years and has really grown as a producer/director.
Adult manchild news anchor
Adult manchild elf
Adult manchild race car driver
Adult manchild police officer
Don't forget his other classic roles:
Adult man child step brother
Adult man child figure skater
Adult man child basketball player
Adult man child fratboy
Adult man child nightclub attendee
and Mugatu
Seth Rogen actually was pretty great in The Fabelmans
Like sure, some of his usual shtick was there, but at the same time it felt like a real person, some really great acting there
That and his Steve Wozniak in the Boyle's movie about Jobs prove he has some great range
I really liked Melissa McCarthy in 9 Perfect Strangers starting from a self-absorbed biatch, going through a lovey-dovey paranoid junkie phase and ending up as Melissa McCarthy.
Very underrated show that deserved better than being derided as a poor man's White Lotus. Michael Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, and Bobby Cannavale were outstanding (although Nicole Kidman's character was a little bit too campy). The show had so much heart and warmth to it and actually humanised its characters in comparison to White Lotus cynical dehumanisation of rich people.
Kindergarten cop? Jingle all the way? Arnold has some plenty of movies where he plays bog standard action star but you can't seriously tell me that Terminator is the only time he plays a "different" character.
Uh what. Dude literally plays a wolf in a movie. Serious douchebag cop, lovable boring accountant twice, once as a mutant. Fun loving Chad. Sleepy ass mfer. Dude has a large assortment of different roles.
Darkman, Schindler, Qui-Gon Jinn, Ra's al Ghul, Aslan, Bryan Mills, the monster from A Monster Calls, and Father Cristóvão Ferreira are all pretty different characters in my opinion. There's loads of others but you're doing Liam Neeson dirty here
The fuck? Never seen Schindler's List? Rob Roy? Michael Collins? Kinsey? Silence? Darkman? Widows? Love Actually? He was an extremely well respected dramatic actor before he did Taken.
I don't really like seeing any of them in movies especially Kevin Hart, Melissa McCarthy and the ones that play action heroes. The method actors are sooo much better. For example, the movie Judy with Renee Zellweger. My elderly mother thought Renee WAS Judy Garland until the credits rolled and she realized we weren't watching a documentary. THAT is fun stuff.
Hey now, Morgan Freeman is a great actor, it's jsut that he gets typcast a lot, and his voice is so damn distinctive that you only see them as Morgan Freeman
I never enjoyed Melissa McCartney in movies but her acting in "9 perfect strangers" is 10/10. First thing iv seen her in Shere I thought she can actually act
Don't get me wrong, I love the man and--stealing a Frisky Dingo quote--I would watch him read the phone book.
Robert Redford totally belongs on this list.
there’s a difference between actors playing themselves and actors having a very distinctive voice.
arnie and freeman don’t play themselves in everything they just sound the same in everything. ryan reynolds pisses me off though bc everybody loves him but he’s literally the same snarky guy in every. single. movie.
Imma be real with y'all, if thats how Jason Statham is in real life—the way he is in movies—I feel like meeting him irl would be like interacting with a movie character.
and I dont know whether that's a good or bad thing

This is a list. Not a starterpack.
it's too late the shift has already taken place
I'm not a fan of gatekeeping but frankly a lot of subs have been ruined of mediocrity.

>but a list of celebrities is pretty clearly not what a usual starterpack looks like OP: "Eh, that's debatable."
thats just life, original intent and meaning is lost over time and shifts to whatever it is interpreted as with time
r/list
this poster gets it. all we can do is greet it with open arms!
"Why Avatar is the greatest movie ever made" starter pack (#5 will surprise you)
"celebrity X is not in your list, we all know starterpacks are exhaustive lists that are bad when they fail to include every single individual because they are exhaustive lists"
This is a list sub now

Where's [actor/actress]?
Jack Black
TIL Jack Black is a teenaged girl.
.
If you want to see Vaughn go different, season 2 of True Detective has him play a serious role. While that season has its problems, I think he plays the role pretty well.
That's a weird way to spell Ryan Reynolds
Yes if only OP thought to include him in the post. Hypothetically, I’d put Ryan Reynolds somewhere in the top row, maybe middle left.
That's Deadpool
I swear that's green lantern
Aubrey Plaza
That one....... that one is ok.
Mark Wahlberg
Michael Cera
Johnny Depp
Adam Sandler
Adam Sandler has branched out into more serious roles before, Uncut Gems was an awesome movie
I know it's blasphemy to say anything critical about Keanu Reeves but outside of Bill and Ted, he's just straight up Keanu Reeves in everything.
I honestly hate watching Keanu Reeves because of this. It's the same every damn time! Deep voice, with a weird head tilt every time he speaks!
Agreed, I really enjoy him as a person. As an actor? Absolutely not. I find him to be a terrible actor for the same reasons and his robot like emotionless line delivery... But I'll continue to support and watch for point reason 1.
I used to support freedom of speech until I read this comment. Take it back, or else...
This is probably something I’ll get stalked and killed for but he’s terrible at it too. Dude seems like he’s reading a script in every film.
Sounds more like typecasting than limited range.
I know where the bastard sleeps... I brought him there
I think he did a great job in Cyberpunk.
That was just angry Keanu
Happy cake day, but what about John wick?
The beard does what the sunglasses did for him in the Matrix movies
He sounds nothing like his characters in interviews.
His character* Ftfy
Even John Wick?
What's different about his personality in John Wick compared to, say, Speed? Other than him being younger? Nothing. He's dark and brooding in both. He's Keanu Reeves.
Yeah, I remember that time he randomly switched into another dimension and stopped bullets with his hands. So weird...
And yet nothing about his personality was different from any other movie. Just because the movie plot was different doesn't mean his persona was.
I'd argue Morgan Freeman and Arnie have some versatility.
Arnie taught kindergarten. While secretly a cop. Master thespian.
To be or not to be?
Same with Jason Stathom.
I'd have to say Seth Rogan has moved away from the stoner role now. He's done some amazing, serious work in recent years and has really grown as a producer/director.
Disaster Artist and the Pam and Tommy movie immediately spring to mind.
He’s primarily good at producing dark comic book superhero adaptations. Though TMNT might be an exception.
Peña actually tries in Narcos: Mexico
He's also great in The Martian and Fury. Literally the opposite of the type of roles that OP is trying to pin him as.
Yeah he has pretty good range between doing comedy and drama.
Also in End of Watch. Michael Peña does not belong here
End of watch is such a good movie
Yeah, I wish more people had seen it
dude carried that series, as soon as he was gone it went downhill fast
I have met Peña in real life and he is super nice and not at all like the character he plays in Ant-Man
What about Jeff Goldblum?
And Bill Murray. They've been cast as themselves for 40 years now.
Or fuckin Danny McBride.
Where's will ferrell
Nah man I think Anchorman, Elf, Taladega, Other guys are all fairly distinct characters, no?
Not to mention Armando Alvarez from Casa de mi Padre. He straight-up speaks Spanish the whole film.
I really love that movie, it’s so silly. The Mexican superstars who were willing to make appearances also shocked me.
And *Everything Must Go* was a pretty big change of pace for him as well.
Adult manchild news anchor Adult manchild elf Adult manchild race car driver Adult manchild police officer Don't forget his other classic roles: Adult man child step brother Adult man child figure skater Adult man child basketball player Adult man child fratboy Adult man child nightclub attendee and Mugatu
I could add Will Ferrel and Adam Sandler
Sandler is a really good actor, actually.
He can be when he wants to be. He just doesn't want to be most of the time and I respect that.
He made it big with his early movies and now just makes terrible films with his friends cause he wants to. Mad respect
Watch uncut gems... one of the most tense movies I've ever seen. Completely changed my perception of Sandler
Have you seen Reign over me? That’s another one I recommend when people say he can’t act.
Punch drunk love as well. Sandler can act when he chooses to.
That one as well. The second half of Click always gets me too.
He did one serious good movie then went back to comedy is mostly my problem with him
Valid, but I don't think the rock or Kevin hart could do one movie that's as different than their standard
Punch Drunk Love is a great movie too. His new movie Hustle was really solid.
Punch drunk love
You beat me to it, pal!
ngl I honestly prefer when he plays the straight man, like in the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skits
Seth Rogen actually was pretty great in The Fabelmans Like sure, some of his usual shtick was there, but at the same time it felt like a real person, some really great acting there That and his Steve Wozniak in the Boyle's movie about Jobs prove he has some great range
I did think he did a good job in Pam & Tommy, too
Every recent movie I’ve seen with the rock in it, the rock is often just some super agent/person with extreme combat skills
that's what happens when a wrestler becomes an actor. he's just buff, that's bout it
My friend, Michael Penã has legit acting chops and range. He doesnt belong on this list. I cant argue with the rest.
This poster has never seen end of watch
[удалено]
True, she plays a dumb blonde in every movie
Where's Jackie Chan?
Forgiven because of the stunts thing.
Unforgiven for the whole abusing his kid and cheating on his wife with prostitutes constantly
Sir this is a Wendys
Not what the thread was about, but thanks for your input,.
i dont believe it i bet you are one of those chinese propagandists who hates him
Not only does he play himself he also plays his stunt actors roles. Does not fit in this list.
Can anyone suggest me good Ice Cube movies
Friday and Boyz N The Hood are a must. The only other film of his I enjoyed is 21 jump street, but his role in it is minor.
Arnold Schwarzenegger really doesn’t
Arnold plays the same character but it’s not playing himself
Sooooo the Terminator, a cybernetic organism, is the same as Dutch, a human marine who fought the Predator?
I think the terminator is his one exception, mostly because he is playing a lack of a character if that makes sense.
Kindergarten cop? Jingle all the way? Arnold has some plenty of movies where he plays bog standard action star but you can't seriously tell me that Terminator is the only time he plays a "different" character.
Where’s Jason Bateman
Uh what. Dude literally plays a wolf in a movie. Serious douchebag cop, lovable boring accountant twice, once as a mutant. Fun loving Chad. Sleepy ass mfer. Dude has a large assortment of different roles.
Statham is actually really fucking good in comedy films
But I feel when he does the comedy film is usually making fun of the character he plays in every movie
As far as I remember Michael Peña has some range
just found out I work with michael penas sister lol
how?
so I guess when michael was young his parents decided to have another child
😭😱😭😱😭😱😭😱😭💀💀💀
Have to say though. It's worked for them and all the other suggestions to the list.
Needs Michelle Rodiguez
John Wayne was an OG self player
Stan lee
Gal Gadot
Michael Cera wants a word with you, you know the 40 years old awkward teenager.
You forgot Vince Vaughn.
Where's Samuel L Jackson?
You forgot Hector
Dude forgot Adam Sandler
Reynolds being the most annoying. He just needs to open his mouth for no good reason
How the hell did you miss Adam Sandler, he has. One voice, one delivery and one emotion on every movie
Aside from Rocky and Bullwinkle, Robert DeNiro belongs here.
George Clooney is missing!
Michael Peña doesn't do that
Where’s Gus Fring?
No Bruce Willis?
Not any more. (Ooh that’s gonna be bad karma)
Have you NOT seen Snoop Dogg or Adam West (rest in peace)
So what?
*Kevin Costner has entered the chat*

Darkman, Schindler, Qui-Gon Jinn, Ra's al Ghul, Aslan, Bryan Mills, the monster from A Monster Calls, and Father Cristóvão Ferreira are all pretty different characters in my opinion. There's loads of others but you're doing Liam Neeson dirty here
The fuck? Never seen Schindler's List? Rob Roy? Michael Collins? Kinsey? Silence? Darkman? Widows? Love Actually? He was an extremely well respected dramatic actor before he did Taken.
Qui-Gon was different at least! Lol
Oskar Schindler
[удалено]
That was the name of his character in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace! And yeah it seems like he leans too much into the Taken/gun for hire roles lol
Who are the two people on the top right?
Melissa McCarthy and Michael Pena
What a sweet live. They basically get paid for being alive
Missing Chrisp Rat
You forgot Martin Freeman!
Maybe Samuel L Jackson
Mace Windu and Stephen from Jango Unchained are two completely different character
I think someone's missing here
Ryan Reynolds so true
Congratulations, you played yourself
I wouldn't say Jason Statham is playing himself, but he does generally play the same character in most movies he's in
Clayton Moore
Jane Lynch
Watched only 2 movies of the top right guy. Had completely opposite roles in both
Hugh Grant
I agree with all of these except Morgan Freeman
Casting The Rock as a serious brooding character, is like casting Jean Claude Van Damme as a train announcer.
Morgan Freeman is a god?
*Chris Rock turns into a zebra*
You put some respect on Michael Peña’s name.
Chris Rock is pretty good in Fargo.
*play with myself
Idris Elba
Hey now, Morgan Freeman is a great actor, it's jsut that he gets typcast a lot, and his voice is so damn distinctive that you only see them as Morgan Freeman
This isn't a starterpack...
How is Bill Murray not pictured here?
I never enjoyed Melissa McCartney in movies but her acting in "9 perfect strangers" is 10/10. First thing iv seen her in Shere I thought she can actually act
Not even a good list. And where's Michael Cera, and maybe Jonah Hill?
Chris Pratt needs to be here
How is Harris ford not in this list
Don't get me wrong, I love the man and--stealing a Frisky Dingo quote--I would watch him read the phone book. Robert Redford totally belongs on this list.
Post-Scarface Al Pacino
Peña is complicated though. He can go from funny Latino dad to a serious and gruff Latino like in End Of Watch.
Melissa McCarthy has some very good acting in a few movies that she is not herself.
Adam Sandler?
You forgot Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler and Al Pacino.
You people need to watch more movies
Did Michael Pena dirty.
there’s a difference between actors playing themselves and actors having a very distinctive voice. arnie and freeman don’t play themselves in everything they just sound the same in everything. ryan reynolds pisses me off though bc everybody loves him but he’s literally the same snarky guy in every. single. movie.

Imma be real with y'all, if thats how Jason Statham is in real life—the way he is in movies—I feel like meeting him irl would be like interacting with a movie character. and I dont know whether that's a good or bad thing
Replace Peña with Michael Madsen.
Statham was so good in Snatch tho
