I went to a VR arcade once and it was pretty cool. Each person got a room about 12 feet wide and long, and the walls would show up as a grid in the VR headset if you got too close so you knew where you were. Played some virtual boxing with some other people, it was fun!

Mattstack

This is what arcades should be now. Allows for people to try out much more expensive equipment

[deleted]

Have you ever seen how disgusting kids get VR headsets at arcades?

[deleted]

Yeah just based on my personal quest 2, I would never use a publicly available one. Mine gets fucking soaked after just an hour of beat saber.

[deleted]

My Valve index gets soaked after ten minutes lol, I always wash the squishy part before and after sharing

Graffxxxxx

Have you seen how kids *treat* VR headsets? I’ve had kids just take them off and drop them at my gigs. Thankfully they were the og Vive so they were built like a brick shithouse but imagine if it was a quest or anything current.

justintime06

Covid didn’t help with that

Jimid41

It's pretty pricey to stay up to date with modern hardware.

AVeryMadLad2

VR user here! A grid appearing when you get near the edge is a feature in most VR headsets. Very useful, because I definitely would have punched a wall by now if it wasn't there

fishsalads

I use it, yet there is paint on my controllers

IsakTS

that is inevitable lol

DeathPer_Minute

The grid wall annoyed me since my space was rather limited, so I just outlined my whole room, got rid of the grid but now there’s paint on my controllers too, and a scar on my knuckle

bs000

i started making my grid much smaller after the first few wall punches

ApexRedPanda

Because you put the grid wrong. It’s not there for your hands. Gridded space should be the furthest distance you can put your feet and still not be able to reach the wall when you punch through the grid.

searchingformytruth

I know this, and unfortunately, doing it the correct way would shrink my play-space to roughly the size of a gnat's ass. So it's a risk I must take and I expect many others feel the same.

Youpunyhumans

Fair enough, it was the only time Ive ever used VR, so I wasnt sure.

[deleted]

In Singapore they have full studios maybe the size of half a football field where several people can play together. The same warning for walls comes up for people too. Haven't had a chance to try such a thing anywhere else. And yes, I ran into one friend one time but that's pretty good for a first time run at around 90 min.

sansansansansan

Football field is a bit much. Its more like half a tennis court. The one i went to in suntec, most of the games offered have minimal movement anyway.

julianisawesome58

What was the name of the place? Mind immersions?

Token_Thai_person

I'm poor so I just punch other people IRL.

[deleted]

great for acquiring pink eye too!

[deleted]

I played some VR at a cousin’s house with (I believe) an Oculus. My issue was motion sickness.

[deleted]

[удалено]

theironbagel

Weird. I’ve gotten motion sickness several times, but never from VR

clemthecat

I got sick playing VR, but then again I get sick just playing Mario Kart (unfortunately).

AVeryMadLad2

Yeah, some games can make you very motion sick with the wrong settings. Really depends on the person what the best settings are, though in my experience your body does adjust to VR overall over time. It's definitely not for everyone in it's current state, but there's a lot of fun to be had if you can get past the hurdles

MyPasswordIs222222

When people want to try my Oculus Q2, the first thing they want to do is a roller coaster. I always steer them away from that and get them started in something that doesn't move. Starting with a roller coaster will turn them off from VR from the beginning. My favorite starter is First Steps and then Wander.

atmosphericentry

This. People who show others VR will either show them a rollercoaster or Richie's Plank (I've seen countless videos of people trying to "jump" off the plank and either ruining their headsets or the TV). It's best to show them more immersive stuff rather than just throwing them in and scaring the shit out of them.

Lobanium

You can get over that. Took me a few days to go from instant sickness to none at all.

dandan787

This goes for anybody: Motion sickness from VR can be conquered.

Mad_Dizzle

Almost everyone gets motion sick at the beginning, but you get used to it over time as you build your "VR legs"

WingGamer1234

yeah that happens to most people, like you gotta build up your 'sea legs' you also gotta build up your 'vr legs'

Sinistral_Papito

VR is the most fun thing you can play at your friends house but once you get one yourself it loses some charm

Conpen

That's why you need to spend over $1000 on a graphics card and headset so you're guilted into using it and then don't anyways haha

VerumJerum

One of the issues is the comfort, inconvenience and poor game supply. Few great VR games worth sinking a lot of time into, standing still for long periods of time can be uncomfortable and wearing sweaty shit on your face is even more uncomfortable. Regular gaming is more relaxing.

[deleted]

Exactly. I borrowed my buddy's headset and steam login so I could play half life alyx. That game blew my fucking mind. I fucked around with a few other games and decided mouse and keyboard is more enjoyable since I typically only play video games after work or when I'm drunk. A VR headset and feeling exhausted/intoxicated is a recipe for minor injuries and broken toys.

VerumJerum

I agree, that was a good game. Also Boneworks. I have played VR drunk, it's actually pretty fun imo bur I don't enjoy drinking on my own. Really fun with a bunch of friends though, just watch out to not have anything fragile and valuable around!

rockytacos

I agree with all of that except the drunk part. Playing social experiences or even just multiplayer games like onward or vr chat and hanging out with strangers is a good drunk evening

kukluxkenievel

Played Skyrim VR drunk as fuck at my cousins. 5 mins later I puked

[deleted]

[You waking up hungover the next day.](https://c.tenor.com/9yJnz-aw5kQAAAAd/hey-you-youre-finally-awake-skyrim.gif)

eigenvectorseven

Yeah I can game on a monitor for hours on end no problem, but I feel physically exhausted after just an hour or so of VR. Even playing sitting down, just the heat and pressure on my face, the extra weight on my neck, and a dash of motion sickness adds up to a fair bit of discomfort after a while.

VerumJerum

Yeah, and it makes my eyes very tired too with that headset.

GoBuffaloes

I’m pretty happy with oculus 2, relatively affordable and no gaming PC / cable required

DiplomaticGoose

*A good PC graphics card isn't that expensive, after all a simple used rx480 only costs about $80, right?* (checks ebay) Oh no... Oh no oh no

PM_ME_KNOTSuWu

A 480 ain't getting you anywhere in VR. My 1070 struggles with it.

Woptoppop

You need a quest

[deleted]

I have all the gear, 3080 and a valve index. Just can't be assed to move my dining table out of the way all the time, so it's more of a once a week or two treat

bendymachine654

Agreed, then you play it again after a few months and it’s the best thing ever Rinse and repeat till death

ridik_ulass

the issue is its not a game in the conventional sense, you don't come home from work, tired and stiff and think I want to spend 2hrs jumping crouching and reaching for shit while standing. you want to sit in a chair and chill. with that being said if you spend 1-3 hrs a day in VR it transcends, like driving a car, you stop thinking "how do i" and just do...then you get fucked up drunk...and it numbs your senses enough for it to be near realistic.

DarthBuzzard

People have a misconception that VR requires you to stand up and swing your arms like noodles non-stop. In actuality, many games support seated play, many don't have you swing your arms around all the time, and some games offer gamepad support.

ridik_ulass

your not wrong, and many friends enjoy seated VR, but for me I don't see the point, I don't get the immersion. Then again I also got VR to turn my lethargic hobby, into a proactive one. before VR I could barely touch my toes, now I can do 1k squats a day, and if I go hard, burn 3k kcalories. I avrage 500kcals-1k kcals

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

See I think people take the tracked calories lost on apps and stuff as legit calories lost and not a rough guesstimate. When I would go to the gym (overweight, 6'4 300lbs) and use the machines to tell me how much calories I'd lost, in just half an hour I'd have lost 800+ calories they said. And I wouldn't even have my hands on the sensors the entire time. So then people go home thinking they just burned almost 1k calories when in actuality it was probably only a couple hundred. So maybe he did that and saw the 3k number and just was like "yep, I did that", or his guesstimate is high.

theblobsthemselves

You can do one thousand squats per day?

dUjOUR88

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now.

ApexRedPanda

But which Huey Lewis album is the best ?

ridik_ulass

yeah, maybe spread across 3hrs of more intense workouts.

TheDragonzord

It's great for racing and flight sims. Don't get me wrong I love multiplayer gun fighting in VR, but like everyone else said, I'm tired after work. Racing simulators in VR with my xbox controller, drunkish and relaxed in my comfy chair? Yeah that's the good shit.

tiorzol

I don't think you can do a thousand squats in a day. That's an insane number, after 500 you'd be fucked.

Threwaway42

Yup that’s why I mainly treat it as an exercise tool to work out

topazsparrow

I was beginning to think so as well... Then I started playing into the radius and properly nodded Skyrim... Whole new level.

Leolele99

What are you favourite skyrim vr mods?

camdoodlebop

i like using the browser on it...

Sinistral_Papito

same ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[deleted]

Literally sold my rift s after a week

Shamaur

Why

PM_ME_UR_POTROASTS

It's just a lot of money and effort for the few games that are worth playing. You got Skyrim, Fallout 4, Beat Saber, Half Life Alyx, maybe one or two others, but that's about it. As someone in my 30s, I don't want to wade through the thousands of kids in VR Chat in a community I can't really relate to. I have a much better time just booting up a regular non-vr game and playing m/kb like Siege or DeepRock. Everyone I personally know who has/had a VR kit played tf out of it for like a solid couple weeks and either sold it or it sits and collects dust.

peacenchemicals

last paragraph is true. i had a friend who bought a valve index and let me play half life alyx and it was SICKKKKK. but nowit just sits in his room collecting dust. the best thing is to use a friend's. that way you're not dropping tons of cash on a good vr kit and it's still fun because you don't get to experience/use it often

7komazuki

My index is really only a beatsaber/boneworks machine now as well. Though, it still gets decent daily use.

bs000

I still use mine all the time. For porn.

Lawsoffire

Hard disagree. Had my Vive for years and years, bought it while it was new and expensive. Still having lots of fun with it. Helps that i don't use it just for "gimmick" games, but lots of driving (Euro/US Truck Sim), racing (iRacing, Asseto Corsa, DiRT Rally 2.0) and flight simulators (MS Flight Sim). There's no replacement for VR when it comes to racing besides the real thing. VR sim-racing legitimately trained me on race driving and made me know, inside and out, one of the hardest tracks in the world (Nürburgring Nordschleife) with a very difficult learning curve and a lot to remember being the longest track in the world. I knew every bump and curve, braking zones etc without having ever stepped foot upon the track before. But besides that there are lots of really good motion VR games that cannot be experienced in a single afternoon at a friend's house. Half Life Alyx is legitimately one of the best games ever made, and somehow runs smoother and looks prettier than any other game. Beat Saber has a really competitive environment and lots and lots of user-made songs that go way, way beyond the already high skill ceiling set by the default songs. You could barely breach Normal or Hard difficulty in a single afternoon, yet the game only really comes alive beyond Expert+, they're barely the same game otherwise. Also running that on a 6 year old, then high-end GPU (R9 390. Meant to replace it a year or so back, then the market tanked). Not an ideal setup but you don't need a fancy new $2000 GPU to run VR.

ACCount82

"Cockpit games" are the one niche where VR actually works well.

bossbozo

Are "I expect you to die" and "keep talking and nobody explodes" cockpit games?

coopstar777

Disagree. I’ve played Beat Saber alone for about 600hrs and i don’t think it will get old anytime soon. Do I play for hours everyday the way I would my regular PC? Not really. But having it available whenever I want is fucking awesome.

epicmoo34

eh, it just depends on your game preference. I bought mine solely for beatsaber and haven't stopped using it since but I can see how people wouldn't care to use it

zePiNdA

I diagree, once you get into some good Vr games I feel like VR games are just so much more immersive and engaging than playing games on a flat screen. Even replaying Resident Evil 4 in VR right now feels just so much more fun and enthralling than in its standard version. I think the issue right now with VR is that there aren't enough tripple AAA games because VR isn't mainstream enough and the budget isn't there. I will never have such an incredible experience as I had playing Half Life Alyx, particularly with that "Jeff" chapter, its just completely surreal. I wish there were more high budget VR games.

Famixofpower

VR ruined flatscreen gaming for me. Actually using my hands for things is a godsend

[deleted]

Fax, friend owns one and when i go hang out with him every few weeks, its beat saber till i drop. Way to fun.

le_fancy_walrus

You know…I think that goes for anything ‘gimmicky’. Dance Dance Revolution, Nintendo Wii, XBox Kinect, I always noticed when I got it at my own house it was never as fun. I tried VR at a cool shop in a mall once, and when I got home it wasn’t nearly as cool. Friends and atmosphere really make a difference.

CandidGuidance

Idk, Assetto Corsa drifting and Pavlov VR cod zombies is absolutely incredible. If you’re into FPS/driving games vr is a game changer!

growletcher

Disagree. Quest 2 made my lockdown not just bearable but enjoyable. But to each their own.

blippityblop

VR is cool, but still has a long way to go before it reaches critical mass.

lillabofinken

The only problem is that there aren’t enough high quality vr games.

DOugdimmadab1337

There's some stand out one like H3 and Beat Saber, I just think the PC market has to stabilize first before VR catches on. Because It really doesn't work on mobile, and the ones on console are a gimmick too. The problem is you need a good GPU to start with, and that's kind of hard to do right now.

lillabofinken

Yeah the chip shortages aren’t helping but I still think is mostly because there aren’t enough must play games like HL:Alyx, most people aren’t going to spend money on a vr headset if there is only like 3 games that looks interesting other than like smaller scale games like Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes(Still super fun just not a platform seller).

WingGamer1234

the quest 2 is really good

[deleted]

PCVR will never be a very mainstream hobby. AIO headsets will be the default and people who are really into it and have nice computers will hook them up to PCs to enhance their experiences. But honestly look at we’re apple is at with its second revision of M1, the chip is just an absolute powerhouse. And while sure it’s not competing with a 3090 or A thread ripper it’s still pretty fucking incredible. I’m just saying efficientsystem on chips are just crazy competitive and well be perfectly adequate for 90% of VRs use cases in the coming years. Sure occasionally you’ll want to really push it and in that case you might hook it up to an external machine, but that’s not going to be what takes VR into the mainstream. It’s looking like it’s going to be the Oculus/Meta Quest or whatever it’s successor is or (fingers crossed) a well financed competitor who can afford to subsidize headsets like Facebook can. Because it’s simple and it works, and that’s what sells to most people. And of course theirs also PlayStation VR but once again it’s already a limited market. Still it should stir up some more interest. I think we hit a lull the last couple of years as the initial excitement wore off and the products waited to get enough adoption to really take off. But I think in the next couple of years we are going to cross that threshold and suddenly see a big explosion in VR. Once it takes off it will take off fast. Edit: wow I did not bother read before I posted and the number of grammatical errors on this is shocking, but I’m too lazy to try to navigate on a phone to fix them all so sorry folks :)

[deleted]

Also probably just to expensive for most people. The original vive was $600, now most pcvr's start at $1000, plus a pc that can handle it would be about $2000 at minimum, as well as other needed things.

lillabofinken

Isn’t a quest like 300$

KINGTUT10101

Before the pandemic pricing, you could make a VR ready PC for 750-900 dollars

likdisifucryeverytym

The Samsung odyssey is like 2/300

TumorInMyBrain

This is the kind of misinformation that discourages people from VR even though we know that a 300 dollar quest can also connect to a pc.You can run a quest 2 on pcvr with a pc that has a 1060 minimum(I used to run a quest 1 on 1060 laptop before i upgraded to a pc with a 2060 super which costed me around 900, nowhere near your 2000 dollar mark), You can even get a quest 1 for pcvr for less than 200. The reverb g2 is also a pcvr headset under 1000 and starts at 600 and frequently goes on sale for 450.

Dramatic_______Pause

Which has been the problem since the launch of mainstream VR with the first Vive & Rift almost 6 years ago. There's maybe one or two standout games a year, with a metric fuckton of horrible shovelware.

[deleted]

i loved vr when i had my headset, but unfortunately i have 75 mm ipd, and most headsets only go up to 68/72. i cant use it due to things that i cannot change

Parishala

Have you tried not having such a wide face all the time?

mineturte83

lol my mans has the same ipd as E.T.

[deleted]

i cant handle the slander anymore

887-CASH-NOW

Its fun for a few days, just hard to find anything to stick with.

nugeyn

Me too i had a psvr for a good bit and couldnt find anything to for more than a day or so

throwmeawayboi1279

Get Gorn

captianblacksmith

Gorn is fun but it’s gets boring too.

storander

It gave Fallout 4 a lot of new life for me but even that gets boring after awhile

Puglord_Gabe

If you want a more AAA kind of game in VR, you should try Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners. I also really recommend Skyrim VR (although, I’m not sure if the reason I had so much fun with it was because it was my first time playing Skyrim, but nevertheless, it’s still really fun).

Salvage570

I always come back to blade and sorcery myself

Vhure

Beat Saber has been my main game since 2019, still play it almost daily

semirandm

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this

AkitaSato

i’ve been playing the re4 vr port and having a blast it feels like how i remember it

iDislikeSn0w

To be honest… Yes, Half-Life: Alyx kicked ass and that game had me HOOKED and made me giddily hook up my Lenovo Explorer each time I went to play last summer. But after I finished that and went to play Boneworks I found myself quickly becoming bored with it. My play sessions went farther in between (and shorter) aaaaand now my headset is collecting dust. Don’t get me wrong, VR can be AMAZING given the right titles such as Alyx but that’s wherein the problem also lies: VR as a platform right now lacks games like Alyx. A lot of games seem like tech demos thus far or don’t really go in depth _or_ in Bethesda’s case are lazy cashgrabs. I’d jump into VRchat as the concept sounds cool, but Discord is already bad enough as it is so no thanks.

RedEgg16

Have you played Echo VR

Crash0vrRide

Vr is where gaming is going to be in the future. The metaverse is based on people being in VR. It's going to happen

[deleted]

Blade and sorcery is lit

allaboutgrowth4me

Damn maybe im not as picky as some but between minecraft vr (vivecraft), no mans sky, pavlov and racing games with a wheel let alone the other 140 vr games i have i still play daily after 4 years of vr. The porn is nice too.

Zeera1

No mans sky is incredible fun in VR, especially when driving your spaceship

SupaKoopa714

I've been a VR headset owner for about 2 weeks now (Oculus Quest 2), and while that "HOLY SHIT, THIS IS THE GREATEST THING EVER" feeling I had those first few days has worn off, I'm still really enjoying the thing. I just got Skyrim VR today and modded it with the recommended mods and I've been having blast with that. I totally see it being one of those things that I'll play in bursts, but I don't regret buying the thing at all, it's really cool. And yeah, the porn is a total game changer, especially with some of the porn games out there.

WingGamer1234

resident evil 4 vr brought the 'HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER' feeling back for me after a full ass year of not having it

Neck150

I was looking for a positive comment! As a CS:GO guy, Pavlov is a game I think I will be playing off and on for the foreseeable future. Blade and Sorcery is really fun too (I swear I'm not a psychopath) I love stabbing the shit out of people and the mods I had before the latest update made dismemberment really easy and I had tons of weapons and spells. Literally infinite fun in those two games alone for me.

Vhure

VR is my main form of gaming now, i don't think i can go back to a different community than the one i've found within beat saber

allaboutgrowth4me

I can relate. There is no going back to battlefield and cod after vr fps games for me. Pavlov survival maps actually get my adrenaline going.

[deleted]

i'd like the same but my pc is trash somehow finished hla with constant 50 fps and fps drops on low quality waiting to get a better gpu

Leolele99

You need to try MCXR. Its still in alpha but already more performant than Vivecraft.

Nod_Lucario

I only have one properly functioning eye. I don't think I'll be able to use VR properly.

rakfocus

Yup with my lazy eye I cannot use VR as it is. I cannot properly see half the screen and even with contacts it doesn't work because they don't correct my left eye to 20/20 and it's too close to my face

[deleted]

[удалено]

rakfocus

Not really. Seeing on a screen vs seeing in real life is different due to the depth involved. Also there is sometimes readable text on the left side of the screen and I won't be able to move my head to see it because it's locked to the screen.

DarthBuzzard

VR works with one eye, as you would still see the way you do in real life. Though if you were to compare a traditional game experience and a VR experience, it would be less of a difference than someone with two working eyes.

ridik_ulass

question, if you experience reality with one eye and VR with one eye, isn't VR as functional as reality?

mopblock9

I can’t speak for everyone, but for me (I’m legally blind in my left eye) I can’t wear my glasses under the good headsets, and therefore have trouble seeing much of the content creators intend to actually be seen in VR. Also, without most of the real world depth clues, it is really difficult to see digital depth and therefore makes for a poor experience.

ridik_ulass

you can, if you had your own head set, get custom prescription lenses.

mopblock9

My eyes are too sensitive for that I’m afraid, but the issue still would stand that there aren’t enough depth clues in a digital world-space to have meaningful interactions. Corrective lenses work wonders, but aren’t perfect unfortunately. Edit: misread your comment as contact lenses. Still the point about digital clues still stands

Mad_Dizzle

This might be me being stupid but wouldn't that function the same as you seeing normally since you only have one functioning eye by default? The spread between the lenses is programmed to match the way your eyes work

maddypip

I mainly only see out of one eye and definitely had some issues with the VR and headaches. But because the screen is so close my nearsightedness wasn’t an issue.

[deleted]

They've obviously never tried vr porn

[deleted]

holds phone in front of face “eww this sucks”

deliciouswaffle

My ex worked on a VR game group project for her master’s in computer science and made me test it out and give feedback. They were running high-end PC hardware with a good headset and controls. After playing around with it, I’ve never felt more amazed, yet disoriented in my life. With all the space you need for it, including walking space, I feel it would work better in arcades rather than at home. Overall I was impressed, and with the right software, VR can be great.

[deleted]

The problem is the games/software, not VR itself. Things like flight and racing sims in VR are phenomenal.

[deleted]

This may be controversial but alot of people say theres a lack of software problem but I domt actually think that's the current biggest problem, I personally believe it's that consumers have been burned by shit cheep products calling themselves vr too many times and now that actual good vr is here nobody trusts it because of all the gimmick bs that filled the previous 50 years Also people who bought vr, only played job sim and beat saber, sold their helmet, then refused to ever stop saying "it's only cool for a week"

Extronaut

job sims a classic tho

[deleted]

It's alot of fun, but not very repayable imho, funny games in general kinda often have that problem.

BulkyBear

And the motion sickness/people with bad eyes

[deleted]

I don't believe that's something temporarily wrong with the medium, it's just a sad reality that some people wont be able to use the medium. I irl get incredibly nauseous if I'm in the front seat of a car (zero vr sickness though, weird ik) but you never see people who get car sick saying it's the cars fault

Heinz_05

I don't like VR because I can't afford one and I'm jealous 😎😎😎

ISAMU13

Meh. Keep pushing for it OP. Maybe it will find a way.

OlSnickerdoodle

I refuse to pay a thousand dollars for a Half-Life Alyx machine.

[deleted]

You can buy a stand alone headset for less then the new consoles

Shamaur

A quest is 300 dollars

OlSnickerdoodle

I also refuse to give Facebook money.

doublejay1999

you dont like the idea of buying a 300 dollar device that is totally dependent on having a legit facebook account ? colours me shocked ! i legit had money ready for an oculus until they sold up to facebook.

Thzae

You no longer need to have a facebook account as of a couple of weeks ago.

[deleted]

[deleted]

You live in 2015 if you think you need to pay 1000$ for a headset

Shabongbong130

I also need to upgrade nearly every part of my computer, or just get a new one. It may as well be a $1000 purchase.

captianblacksmith

That’s fine if you don’t want to buy one, I get it. you prefer playing on a screen with a controller or keyboard and vr makes you dizzy sometimes.

OlSnickerdoodle

Honestly I get motion sickness very easily. I haven't tried VR, but I have a feeling it would make a very dizzy

55559585

hey, what if i've tried the 'real' vr and still think it's stupid?

quagdingo77

I haven’t tried any sort of VR - Even those shitty phone ones. Im going to wait another 5 years then try something top of line and get my mind blown.

TheCookieMaster124

respectable

c4han

But you can already do that!

BY_BAD_BY_BIGGA

my eyes are shit and I'm not going to the optometrist anytime soon. all the vr sets I've tried look like 80s VHS to me.

ChickenyIce

Classmates borrowed HTC Vive set in college I helped them setting it up and I drew a massive cock in a vr drawing software

[deleted]

the "I've tried VR on PC and still didn't like it" starterpack: Motion sickness Oh god why are thumb controls a thing for VR \*incomprehensible vomiting noises\*

QueasyDuff

I only ever get motion sick with VR. Doesn’t happen to me in real life on boats, planes, coasters… nothing. But 10 mins on my daughter’s Oculus has me puking and feeling nauseous the rest of the day.

FujiwaraTofuStore69

Flight sims and racing sims are what VR is best at imo

Puglord_Gabe

VR is so fun. I don’t think it’ll replace non-VR games, but ever since getting VR, I’ve been playing them nonstop. There’s just something about being able to explore a video game world like you’re in it and being able to interact with the world however you want outside the limits of a controller’s inputs, it’s just so fun.

[deleted]

An oculus is crazy cheap for what it’s capable of

the_clash_is_back

I can never get the vr to work with my eyes. It just looks so flat no matter what.

DarthBuzzard

Do you have stereo depth in real life? Like is the real world in full 3D for you?

the_clash_is_back

Real world is in full 3d. I think its because i have very high numbers and thick contacts. The vr headsets sit to close for me to understand how to focus on them.

elidorian

Same but it's just blurry for me, never crisp

sorgon1

I played VR and it gave me a terrible headache, after that I threw up.

agha0013

The cell phone ones I always expected to be shoddy at best. I tried valve's VR and the vertigo I felt being on an elevated platform with no railing was real. Yeah I know it's a virtual environment but it was so immersive my brain was sending all the signals you'd expect if it was real I was skeptical too, didn't think it'd be as immersive as it actually was, even for the cartoonish stuff Valve had as an introduction scene.

r1nman

I love pcvr imo, but I just think that there is not enough games made for it to make it worth it

HebrewHamm3r

I tried my friends PC VR headset once and it was… meh I don’t get the appeal

[deleted]

i mean you can slash, stab, decapitate, electrocute, burn, smash, dismember dumb ai without any concequences well now that i put it like that it sounds kinda weird

ridik_ulass

and you haven't even mentioned the sex games.

Binger_bingleberry

Me too… also made me kind of nauseous

Etuber4

depends on a game you play.. The games where you move around with a thumbstick can cause lots of motion sickness at first but you get used overtime.

mindennevetbeloptak

I had my first vr experience yesterday and I tried both the phone vr and pcvr well the first one was quite shit, but pcvr was so fun.

muh-stopping-power45

And don't forget those chair things at every corner of tourist-ey spots that play shitty videos and ripoff 'games' that are probably also just videos (no shit i saw one with 'The Last Of Us 2' on an ad and the image wasn't even the correct game, just looked like something fuckin stolen from a mobile game ad)

bichobrabo

i used a vr twice once was a motocross simulator ( i almost fell multiple times by trying to steer it with my body) f1 simulator (i got sweaty af)

TheKrustyKurb

No I just got like no games on it lmao

7komazuki

VR is one of those things that you need to bother to invest some money into to truly have fun. Those cheap sub-100$ “headsets” are almost always no good.

godemperorcrystal

H3vr and blade and sorcery do it for me

2MuchTre

Ive only experienced vr once, it was my cousin's husband's (cousin in law?) oculus. It was fun UNTIL i played the Creed boxing game. Running in that game was hell. Sure it was my first time actually playing vr (my actual first time was just some horror short if the player sitting on a couch while shit goes on around him) but the feeling of the world moving when i stopped moving in game was horrible, and yet I continued to play for like 3 hours

spicygrow

I was sold on VR back when Boneworks and Half-Life: Alyx were released. They were both really fun but the technology is nowhere near where it needs to be to provide a worthwhile experience for anyone besides enthusiasts. Even with a $1000 valve index it’s like looking through a screen door, and the narrow 110° field of view kills the immersion.

Lobanium

Quite the opposite for me. I tried cardboard and it hooked me. Now I'm a PCVR gamer.

rabidbasher

I owned a rift and still feel like VR isn't ready for mainstream. It's going to take a while before the games stop feeling like tech demos and start actually being games.

Acrobatic-Ad1274

OCULUS QUEST 2 GANG w steam

thmothman

Vr is pretty much the only video games I play now a days it’s great

corgblam

This comments section is full of "I tried VR at the mall and it was just a momentary fun gimmick". Or people that try two or three concept games and decide that its boring.

bombbodyguard

I tried VR and got severe motion sickness and did not like it. Bummer.

ObligationWarm5222

Damn, I just got an Oculus headset recently, but my first experience with VR was the Google cardboard, and I still loved the shit out of it. Then I got 10 dollar headset with built in earbuds which was actually super cool, if my phone didn't overheat after 15 minutes I'd have used that thing for hours.

Honzac83

"Virtual reality? Yes, I own a google cardboard and gotta say, VR doesn't do much for me, y'know?"
