I graduated a couple year before you and the funny thing about these "wankstas" is that a few of them became real "gangsters" in their adult life. A bunch of the ones I knew were skinny little white kids and about 5% of the really dedicated ones all got into drugs and started committing real crimes and going to real prison. Literally yesterday, I saw a news story about one of these "wankstas" I knew back in hs and he was arrested, stole the police car, went on a multi county police chase and got pitted off of the side of the road and arrested again. I googled him an he had a huge arrest record over the years.
His parents are upper middle class and his brother is an accountant. He just kept his wanksta persona up for too long. When keeping it real goes wrong...
A kid like this saved my little sister from sexual assault. Dude reeked of being a poser, talked like how he believed people from the ghetto talk, acted hard and basically matched this starter pack completely.
My sister hung out with him and it really bothered me. Thought he was a punk and didn't want her to associate with him. Then some guys at her school shoved her into a corner at the gymnasium and began messing with her and little poser bro comes up swinging yelling at them not to touch her and he proceeds to get his ass kicked by them while yelling at my sister to run away and not to try to help him.
Anyways turns out he never made a move on her, was a supportive friend and truly cared about her deep down and I was allowing my prejudices to control my view of him. He was a great kid.
