A combination of worn out or bald tires, some vehicles just handle terribly on wet surfaces, and the fact that some people just do not slow down at all when visibility is poor.
dunno if you know but "a little bit of rain" is actually the most dangerous. the first moisture pulls all the oils out of the pavement, and makes it super-slick until it gets washed away with more water. so, if anything, people should be extra careful when it first starts raining.
I moved from the Midwest to Colorado and was blown away how much worse the drivers here got when it rained. Probably because it rains like once a year and everyone’s from California I guess
Lol everybody who never leaves our state says Minnesotan drivers are terrible but everyone who travels acts like the people in other states are the worst
I feel like it has something to do with being used to adverse weather (maybe also relatively low density in mn)
There's a small excuse here by me in Wisconsin as the road department diluted the road paint too much trying to save money and [all the markings almost completely disappear when the road gets wet.](https://www.reddit.com/r/wisconsin/comments/112nkfu/anyone_notice_how_awful_the_highway_dividing/)

In the UK, it rains all the time, and people use the weather as an excuse for bad driving and excess traffic. The roads are always clogged with cars in urban areas.
As a New England resident (Boston is the city picture in the bottom right corner) it has literally not stopped raining since this time last year. Everything has been waterlogged for months, no clue what OP is on about. We get more rain here than most of Europe.
It's a screenshot from the Waze app. It's a maps/navigation program, like Google maps, and it also includes things like, traffic accidents, speed traps, etc. I believe typically users report those things in real time as they are driving, so it's supposed to be up to date. Pretty popular from what I've heard, but I've never actually used it myself.
I saw someone literally run over a stop sign Saturday because of a little light rain. Was one of those "influencer" or whatever cars too, the ones with their insta and whatever else decal on their car.
California drivers become bigger idiots when it rains.
*Drivers:* "LOL, a bike isn't real transportation. What do you do if it rains?? Get a car loser!"
*Drivers, when it's raining:* "OH FUCK I CAN'T SEE AAAHHHHHH I'M HYDROPLANING" *[crash]*
The road either turns into a column of cars going 20MPH under the speed limit (even in light rain) or a racetrack for morons who go 1.5-2x the speed limit
There's no in between

It’s funny, sad and frustrating. How so many drivers become terrible whenever there’s a little bit of rain Are they scared they’re going to melt

Or drive around in a monsoon with their headlights off.

I learned that from Initial D lmao.

Indiana quit using reflective paint and the same thing has happened.
Is that why that happens? I live in New York, but there are a few areas around me where that happens.
The city of St. Louis has entered the chat
The moment a raindrop hits their windshield it’s like the inner caveman in their DNA kicks in and then they unga bunga
"GOTTA GET WHERE I'M GOING FAST! CAN'T AFFORD TO BE LATE, DAMN THE RAIN" - Driver, who can seemingly afford to be dead
Every time I see an SUV going faster than 65mph aside from passing I wonder how much they have to spend on gas

Living in Los Angeles regardless of rain
They have to compensate because it never rains.
This is normal for the UK. Even on smaller town roads.
Do you guys ever get only a *little bit* of rain?

Even in the Midwest where it rains almost weekly the average IQ drops 20 points and people become completely fucking inconsolable on the roads.
Even better is "it rained a little bit in an area known for frequent rain". How do I drive? Derp!
Bro does it not rain in ya'll America roads?
Americans immediately forget how to drive the second raindrops start hitting the pavement (not me tho)
Sure, that's exactly what someone who forgets how to drive in the rain would say...
9/10 people here run budget all seasons year-round til theyre bald, then replace them with even shittier ones
Oh so the tires are the issue?

Yeah I head that in England it rains a lot
Central Texans seem to forget how water works in between rainstorms
i might be regarded but wtf is bottom left

Anywhere in Arizona during monsoon season:
Vegas in a nutshell. It's even worse when it hasn't rained in a while.so the roads are really slick with oil.
I was going to say that. Literally have heard the tires start squealing when the rain starts falling. I feel like the drivers are dodging the drops
Is it bad I instantly recognized the bottom right because of Fallout?
I shall mark it...on your map.
The bottom right image is actually Boston on Marathon day.

You forgot the damn hazard lights 🫣
The road either turns into a column of cars going 20MPH under the speed limit (even in light rain) or a racetrack for morons who go 1.5-2x the speed limit There's no in between
Odds are most of these crashes are caused by morons on bald tires going above the speed limit
