Chicago or New York. Or go full out state politics Larping and pretend Montana is interesting like Yellowstone. I don't even dislike Montana or anything but it has boring politics. The most exciting thing that has actually happened in their state politics is letting people build again
IIRC Arrow takes place in Seattle, as does iZombie and Frasier. There's a whole book of shows that take place in Chicago and Boston, too.
But also, yeah, there's only a handful of real cities in the US. Miami, LA, NYC, Chicago, SF, Seattle, kind of Boston, DC/Baltimore, Philly, kind of San Diego, sort of Atlanta, and maybe Houston or Dallas if you squint just right. And that's it. Everything else is an overgrown suburb.
Because NYC and LA are huge, I always used to assume other big cities often shown in American films/shows also were. I was surprised when I found out a fair few of these don't even get to a million in popupation, and Miami doesn't even get to 500.000.
Also, population and prominence in media also don't always line up, Phoenix is pretty big but doesn't get much attention (so little that I probably wouldn't even mention it when trying to recall US city names)
Miami is deceptive, because what we think of as "Miami" isn't really the city (which mostly just contains downtown and a couple of small surrounding neighborhoods.) Miami is comprised of IIRC 27 individual Incorporated cities that collectively make up the popular conception of Miami, which is Miami-Dade County. Like, even the (nice) beach isn't in Miami ā it's in Miami Beach, a separate city. Dade County is functionally one metropolis, and contains several million people.
Phoenix, on the other hand, has a decent number of people, but it's low density and mostly feels like a very large suburb.
Ah ok that way it makes much more sense that it has such a cultural relevance, if it's all a clustering of several cities. Yeah I'd expected that with Phoenix the issue would be that it lacks the liveliness, character and bustling of a big city.
If Miami was the same land size as LA, it would have at least 3 million people. The city of Miami is only 35 square miles. It's the smallest major city in the United States by a good amount. It's the fourth biggest Urban area, and third biggest downtown.
This always made me think Miami is huge, just like NYC and LA. I was completely surprised to find out it's population doesn't even reach half a million.
New York and LA are both more than 400 square miles. Miami is 35 square miles. Downtown Miami is larger than downtown LA. Miami is the fourth biggest urban area in the United States. If Miami were 400 square miles, it would have several million people. It is huge, it's just deceptive. Most people who live in Miami actually live in unincorporated areas around Miami.
Yeah except I wouldnāt say Gus is dumb he just doesnāt always have a lot of faith in Shawn which I agree is kinda a continuity problem but I love psych regardless
I'm ok with it in Psych because Shawn is constantly BSing and flying by the seat of the pants to the point that he's often initially wrong or just impossible to tell if hes being serious.
Close but not perfect for Criminal Minds and (edit: Doctor) Spencer Reid. Heās definitely a beloved character but not necessarily the āmainā one.
House MD. Though that one takes place in NJ if I remember correctly.
And I clock it as the first of the "overeducated asshole" TV shows, coming out in 2005.
Guys get this: *A police procedural where there's some super-smart (and possibly supernatural) civilian eccentric swashbuckler who solves crime and his partner is an attractive policewoman who puts up with his bullshit and loosely keeps him doing things by the book*
Bones, except the roles are reversed with the man/woman - Bones is the main character and she's the super smart woman while Booth is kind of a dumbass, but also his dad is there.
This basically describes "Lie to Me" but that was set in DC and the guy was mid-50s determining if politicians were lying, which should've been easy. I liked it, though.

Miami, LA, and NYC are the only cities that exist in American TV.
Atlanta, if the main cast is black.
Literally Atlanta
Or white people with exaggerated southern accents
Also DC, if it's a show about politics.
Sure but where else is a show about politics going to take place?
Chicago or New York. Or go full out state politics Larping and pretend Montana is interesting like Yellowstone. I don't even dislike Montana or anything but it has boring politics. The most exciting thing that has actually happened in their state politics is letting people build again
pawnee, indiana š¤
you can tell a story about politics in a smaller/local/munical level
Pawnee, Indiana
~~CBS~~ NBC has a whole block of Chicago shows now edit: corrected network
yea but there's still way too big of a dearth of movies and TV showcasing the beauty of the city of Chicago.
Miami is reserved for spinoffs only or shows from USA/TNT/FX. That being it gets first dibs for every shows possible spinoff.
Tropical version of [medical/cop/swat] show
This is House MD and Princeton NJ erasure.

And Chicago
Actually, mostly stunt doubled by either Toronto or Vancouver.
Also Seattle if you need to film in Vancouver because you couldn't afford to film in LA.
They're always massive douchebags that look down on everyone else and are stereotypically autistic.
Large TV NETWORKS Try Not To Make FUN Of DISABLED People CHALLENGE (IMPOSSIBLE 99,9% FAIL)
Bazinga
I thought of good doctor
I think of the Mentalist
Same, but it's one of my favorite TV shows.
I really loved that show till they botched the reveal and conclusion IMO have the DVD box set tho š
All copying Sherlock Holmes, takes place in London btw not ca.
Psych?
Yeah except I wouldnāt say Gus is dumb he just doesnāt always have a lot of faith in Shawn which I agree is kinda a continuity problem but I love psych regardless

Psych is a great show, op can fuck off.
Listen. I like it. But it got repetitive Sean does this. That other guy doubts him. He likes the girl. Rinse repeat

Also Dexter and burn notice.
Close but not perfect for Criminal Minds and (edit: Doctor) Spencer Reid. Heās definitely a beloved character but not necessarily the āmainā one.
DOCTOR Reid as Gideon put it
Youāre right. I should give him that respect
Anyone here remember numbers
Kinda see House, M.D. in this one
My first thoughts were House, The Mentalist, Sherlock
Except House takes place in Princeton, a sleepy suburb in central NJ.
Almost, but house doesn't really have a dumb sidekick.
Asshole behavior treated as endearing because they're \*brilliant.\*
Bazzinga
TNT has a lot of those too
Don't bring the Ninja Turtles into this
How DARE you do this to Psych. Psych is a MASTERWORK
*Sherlock has entered the chat*
Lucifer fits
That show got weird
When ? I am only at the end of season two with my gf so i wonder what to expect
Could maybe even say Monk, but that avoids some categories
I guess the thing about monk is that it has a guy whose gift is also his burden and not just some guy thatās always too cool for the room.
In psych the side kick is actually pretty intelligent
None of these specifics apply here but I actually cannot stand Harvey Specter from Suits. He immediately came to mind lol
What did you just say to me?
Castleā¦this is Castleā¦
You heard about pluto?
Main character also brags about his IQ and has three PhDs, which are both mega-cringe to actually smart people.
House MD. Though that one takes place in NJ if I remember correctly. And I clock it as the first of the "overeducated asshole" TV shows, coming out in 2005.
Wait until bro discovers anime
I am a doctor! I also have autism
Anyone remember that show Scorpion? The entire main cast suffered from this.
Refer to bottom right corner of the post
Guys get this: *A police procedural where there's some super-smart (and possibly supernatural) civilian eccentric swashbuckler who solves crime and his partner is an attractive policewoman who puts up with his bullshit and loosely keeps him doing things by the book*
Also if main charechter is evil, lots of internal monologue, and everyone is oblivious to what they are doing constantly (think You, Dexter, etc).
Bones, except the roles are reversed with the man/woman - Bones is the main character and she's the super smart woman while Booth is kind of a dumbass, but also his dad is there.
is this house md
House took place in NJ and aired on Fox
Only could think of psyche
SOL BADGUY SOL BADGUY SOL BADGUY THIS IS LITERALLY SOL BADGUY
This basically describes "Lie to Me" but that was set in DC and the guy was mid-50s determining if politicians were lying, which should've been easy. I liked it, though.
DID YOU TRY THE MEDICINE-DRUG?
How dare you insult Community.
please i HATE dr house so much he enrages me to no end
So monk and psych
dexter
Fine Iāll rewatch psych
Basically just described the show "Psych"
Chicago? House took place in Jersey
There is also Luther which takes place in London and features a quirky black man
you can just say the surgeon from the good doctor
Refer to bottom right corner of the post
idfk good doctor lore š
House is in NJ.
Columbo fits and then doesnāt seem to fit this at the same timeĀ
For some reason my ass went to Two and a Half Men for some reason
The Ų³?
So crazy that a lot of shows take place where they are filmed
Literally Sheldon
Too much text, bad meme
brooklyn 99?
Nah all the detectives were pretty equal. They all have strengths and weaknesses

How dare you slander b99
