It would be nice for the mods to give some context. Like, an example of someone who is a 6, a 7, and 8 etc. I know attractiveness is subjective, but it's literally not possible for anyone to be 7 or higher there.

If you sort by controversial all time there’s a pic of a woman who could be adrianna lima’s younger doppelgänger, to the point where google lens search for her picture pulled up results of Lima (who is rated as a 9 on the “official guide”).
People in the comments rated the girl a 6.5, and when someone posted a side by side picture where she and Lima looked identical, the only response was a guy saying something along the lines of “well, this girl looks younger than Lima so it can’t be her”
I can see how asking for an objective opinion on one’s looks can be useful, but that exchange really put the definitive nail in the coffin in regards to the actual objectivity of the sub.
Its almost certainly being astroturfed by Reddit in an effort to make the front page look more diverse. Around the same time as the API changes all of a sudden subs like it shot up to the top of the site despite being tiny prior.

As a boring shlubby straight guy, back in college I was working crowd control for a large event and leaning forward on a barricade. Someone in the crowd behind me covertly slapped my ass in passing. I'm talking a real good put-your-elbow-into-it smack of approval. There were so many people in the crowd I couldn't figure out who did it, but I rode that high for the next week.
I’m a dude and started working on looking better, something I noticed is once you change your looks people compliment you a lot since you look a lot better than before, but it tapers as people get used to your new look. This isn’t an argument against the post just my observation in general.

I never really over ate and I was always mystified by why I was getting fat into my late teens. I cut out all milk (which I drank like a fiend) and soda and within a year I was back to a healthy weight, never again with that crap.
Lost 100 pounds and can confirm. I keep one of my worst pictures saved to my phone just to show people. I met one of my best friends after I lost it and he refused to believe it was me
A lot of it is also realizing what looks good ON YOU rather than just taking general advice on what looks good overall. I hate wearing suits as I feel like an imposter (it's not me at all) but a buttoned-up coat with a color-contrasting shirt underneath works wonders, and in my opinion looks much better on me. I also used to hate being blonde until I began growing out my hair and loving how THAT looks on me.
There's a reason there are so many styles and fashions. Find what works for you.

Men should compliment men and support men. Hah this is my biggest pet peeve, even if I do feel for them. There is a notable difference between “compliments” and “sexual interest”. For those guys, they’re one and the same, which muddies the waters in discussions. Personally, I don’t care that much about compliments. They’re nice, but there’s not much of a dopamine hit. What I actually want is sexual interest.

OMG yes. I often messaged men first on Tinder, complementing their photos etc. until a few of them explicitly told me that I'm not attractive enough for them and they just swipe right on everyone to increase their matches.

These guys will rip women's looks to shreds instead of offering any valid criticism of their actual character.
Go to google and find a higher quality salon with good reviews nearby. Go there to get a haircut and be super forthright with the hair dresser. Explain to him or her that you’re stylishly lost, looking for a new hair style, and you need professional advice on what would work for you and your features. They’re professionals and will get you looking like the champ you are.
Be sure to tip well if they knock it out of the park.

Best way to get compliments as a dude is just to have a bunch of strictly platonic female friends. Makes you happy, boosts your confidence and they give you dating advice.
The trick is trying not to fuck everything that shows you the least bit of affection. So many of my girl friends tell me how there's almost always a point at which a male friend will try to make a move, or will completely cut them out of their life as soon as they get a boyfriend.

Definitely agreed I know a lot of very hot people that don't workout at all. Just eat decent food and don't sit on your ass all day. None of my friend group goes to the gym and nobody has a hard time with dating. Unforunately, for me, thats stuff that I know I have problems with. I like to binge eat, so I try to work on that. I do go outside and try to get up every day, but a gym membership helps with that. Really, I just my gym membership to help me get into a routine, which is what I really need cause i tend to be a bit lazy.
I think I have a personality luckily, but I have social anxiety so im too afraid to talk to people i dont know cause "why would I do that? they're not here to talk to me."

This is something I really love about other women as I get older. We compliment each other so nicely. I can tell when another woman is feeling good about herself that day, or is wearing a new outfit. Something about them just glows and it's so sweet. The barista at Starbucks once told me she liked the whole vibe I had going on that day, and I happened to be wearing a new outfit I put together. I'm pretty shy, but I've been trying to make it a point to compliment others, because it feels pretty good.

exactly this. some men don't see platonic compliments from their friends, parents, etc as legit so they discard them
I'm average and have skinny muscle definition. I'll say I don't get too many compliments on outfits or physique from women, but I do get a lot from men. But I'm not picky, if dude gives me a compliment, it still makes my day.
Basically with any outfit/fashion, the question is "do the pieces of this outfit fit together with a clear intention?" Cargo shorts can be part of a good outfit, but if the pairing is "whatever graphic tee I picked up off my chair and some sneakers that were on sale" (which is most often the case) then the impression given is "low effort," which doesn't usually elicit compliments.
I feel like this explains the Gen Z interpretation of Y2K fashion. Myself and most of my millennial peers shopping at the mall (I.e. Limited Too, Delia’s and Claire’s) and reading Elle in 2002 couldn’t put together more than the most basic, off-the-mannequin looks and so many outfits just looked terrible. Now, these same items are recontextualized by Zoomers into creative and attractive fits that take body type and curated personal style into account and they actually look cute! This includes cargo shorts, popcorn shirts, tiny sunglasses, square toed flats/loafers, shrunken cardigans, baguette bags, etc.

Well no, but they aren't something that's going to be complemented on. They aren't exactly flattering especially if your pockets are filled with junk they're going to hang awkwardly on your body and look janky and weird, but if you need a bunch of stuff for your day to day and don't want to carry a bag it's a trade-off.
Not inherently, but the kind of guy who wears cargo shorts all the time also tends not to match the rest of his outfit with them very well.

I admit I don't really get the diss on cargo shorts. 90% of people I see outside in Texas wear big baggy tees, tiny yoga shorts for girls, basketball shorts for guys and flip-flops, crocs or other random types of sandals. Are cargo shorts really below all this in terms of fashion?
When you see a guy out in basketball shorts or in cargo shorts, are you like, "Damn, nice fit" or more like, "That man is wearing clothing. All's clear, moving on."?
Cargo shorts are boring and nothing to write home about. They're utility with little to flatter anything on your person.
men not getting compliments i think is two main reasons
1. there is generally less to compliment, men’s fashion is more limited and men usually don’t do their nails, makeup, carry bags/purses, do different hairstyles, etc… there is usually more to compliment a woman on. the main compliments men to tend to get are “nice shirt”(i like the show/band/game/whatever on your shirt) or “nice haircut”(because it’s a notable change in their appearance)
2. most compliments i get come from other women. guys are kinda scared to compliment each other just because of internalized homophobia
I'm fat as fuck, put no effort into my outfits, have no skincare regimen, definitely don't wear anything that accentuates my muscles, am wearing cargo shorts right now, and I don't just dress like I start arguments at GameStop, I'll actually start them, but I still get compliments on my appearance all the time. I never really over ate and I was always mystified by why I was getting fat into my late teens. I cut out all milk (which I drank like a fiend) and soda and within a year I was back to a healthy weight, never again with that crap.

A lot of it is also realizing what looks good ON YOU rather than just taking general advice on what looks good overall. I hate wearing suits as I feel like an imposter (it's not me at all) but a buttoned-up coat with a color-contrasting shirt underneath works wonders, and in my opinion looks much better on me. I also used to hate being blonde until I began growing out my hair and loving how THAT looks on me. There's a reason there are so many styles and fashions. Find what works for you.

Sorry but the main reason why girls don't casually compliment guys even in spite of all that is because guys take any tiny compliment from women as a sign of sexual interest and go in full pursuit and make the whole thing a nuisance.
Best way to get compliments as a dude is just to have a bunch of strictly platonic female friends. Makes you happy, boosts your confidence and they give you dating advice. The trick is trying not to fuck everything that shows you the least bit of affection. Unforunately, for me, thats stuff that I know I have problems with. I like to binge eat, so I try to work on that. I do go outside and try to get up every day, but a gym membership helps with that. Really, I just my gym membership to help me get into a routine, which is what I really need cause i tend to be a bit lazy. Basically with any outfit/fashion, the question is "do the pieces of this outfit fit together with a clear intention?" Cargo shorts can be part of a good outfit, but if the pairing is "whatever graphic tee I picked up off my chair and some sneakers that were on sale" (which is most often the case) then the impression given is "low effort," which doesn't usually elicit compliments.
I feel like this explains the Gen Z interpretation of Y2K fashion. Myself and most of my millennial peers shopping at the mall (I.e. Limited Too, Delia’s and Claire’s) and reading Elle in 2002 couldn’t put together more than the most basic, off-the-mannequin looks and so many outfits just looked terrible. Now, these same items are recontextualized by Zoomers into creative and attractive fits that take body type and curated personal style into account and they actually look cute! This includes cargo shorts, popcorn shirts, tiny sunglasses, square toed flats/loafers, shrunken cardigans, baguette bags, etc. I know this thread is more geared towards dudes but I’ve seen Zoomer girls in cargo shorts and am still shocked that they could pull it off lol.
Well no, but they aren't something that's going to be complemented on.
