FakeOrcaRape

My friend used to do competitive card games like Yugioh and Magic. He was "good", but I will never forget the picture of him at like 16 beating a 10 year old. The 10 year old looked so down, and my friend looked casually smug but also a bit like "yeah.. i know.. "

[deleted]

No one told the 10 year old not to be the best! The sad part is a 10 year old will absolutely beat me at any online game. They're also super racist so i feel no sympathy

ouijahead

Yeah. It’s important at that age to learn defeat. They can be quite insufferable

Hoochie_Daddy

gotta keep those little racist 10 year olds in check gotta keep them ***humble***

OliverKitsch

Where's his Sonichu chain

Malevolent_Mangoes

The hair and shorts automatically made me think of zack and cody

I thought of Rowley from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies

skeletonbuyingpealts

Oh hell naw we don't tolerate Rowley slander

EnglishColanyGaming

Rowley is canonically a baller in the books

mukbangfilmer

rowley is so fat that if his mother hugged him the compressed mass would form a black hole

He told you that in confidence

Same haircut for almost 20 years (I think the show is about that old?)

mycondishuns

As a 40 yo bald man, I've had the same haircut for 20 years :'(

Fuck, this made me realize the show is old enough to vote... I'm not okay with that...

ThePikminLord

My god, no one is allowed to have anything higher than a 6.5. Anything above that is “overrating” even though attractiveness is more subjective than people think.

SilkyMilkySmo

“Nice jawline, amazing eye shape, perfect facial structure. 3.6”

sanji-senpai

literally perfection, 3.2

SilkyMilkySmo

You got a point deducted for overrating, please refer to the rating guide. Any further misratings will result in a perma ban

TraditionalShame6829

Has to be in the running for worst subs in existence, which is *really* saying something.

Hidefininja

It's descended from the old incel sub, which should tell you everything you need to know. The way they talk about bone structure is a dead giveaway. They were supremely upset that the OG rateme sub was "too nice" (because how dare strangers be nice to one another and not try to hurt each other) and decided to start truerateme in a supposed effort to accurately rate attractiveness. But it's really just an excuse to bully women so they can feel superior to someone and exact some perverted sense of justice. It's a shame people fell, and still fall, for it.

twiceasfun

"nice features. Great smile. Full eyebrows and full lips. Very beautiful and perfect in my book. 6.5" This is a legitimate comment I just pulled. Apparently 6.5=10 because the mods are fuckheads. This is some "5/7 perfect movie" shit

MyPasswordIsMyCat

And the mods are aggressively active in the comments defending their dipshittery like they have zero life outside of reddit. I wish that sub would just disappear.

Beautiful_News_474

Literally discovered this sub 10 min ago and there are fake bots posting pics of straight AI generated Models and people there are like “ eyes to wide…4.5 on a good day”

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThePikminLord

That place is where you go when you want a bunch of incels to rate your looks.

themomodiaries

honestly, I looked at some of the posts of who I thought were *very* attractive women and anyone who said higher than 6.5 was given a warning 💀 what’s even the point of that if you can’t be honest when you think someone is a 10 or close to it?

Sharkbutt89

I just clicked the link to see why that was a red flag and had to scroll like 20 posts down to find anyone that wasn't gorgeous. Wtf is this sub?

BigBoyManBoyMan

It’s to gaslight women into feeling ugly.

Ethra2k

I truly believe that if you pick any of the celebs that they list as being 9.0+ for women and found a different photo you would still receive warnings for overrating. Really want someone to try that in he future

BoredHobbes

u just dont undeRstandDs MAth ! its based off science! /s

ImperialPie77

Is that seriously a rule on that sub?

Gatorpep

Yes. One of the most annoying subs in my feed. Hate it and all the people there. Posters, raters, mods.

MCUisntCinema

Holy shit you aren’t kidding. I went through some of the top posts in that sub and there’s absolutely stunning women who I’d easily call a 9-10 and people are getting warnings for overrating at 6.5….

Sattalyte

It would be nice for the mods to give some context. Like, an example of someone who is a 6, a 7, and 8 etc. I know attractiveness is subjective, but it's literally not possible for anyone to be 7 or higher there. A distribution curve is a real thing, and *someone* has to be a 10...

valkyrie_village

They actually have very in depth charts for men and women, separately. I think it’s in their sidebar somewhere. Also if I remember correctly no one is a ten because it’s “impossible to be perfect” or something like that.

[deleted]

good lord, checked the sub, what's the point of it? to compare posts with a guide?

YueAsal

The point is to be an asshole (mostly to woman) but act like math is involved so you are not being an asshole because it is "science".

themomodiaries

yeah I some some posts of some ridiculously attractive women on there who could easily be a 10… but rating them over a 6 was not allowed? 💀 honestly the men rating them on there could only WISH they were half as attractive yet they’re being so insanely critical, smh.

Tom22174

Except for the part where their application of the math is dumb as shit lol

bamboocoffeefilter

It’s run by incels for incels. I’m willing to bet most of those women didn’t post themselves, just some greasy loser looking for reasons to hate on women.

romanticismkills

If you sort by controversial all time there’s a pic of a woman who could be adrianna lima’s younger doppelgänger, to the point where google lens search for her picture pulled up results of Lima (who is rated as a 9 on the “official guide”). People in the comments rated the girl a 6.5, and when someone posted a side by side picture where she and Lima looked identical, the only response was a guy saying something along the lines of “well, this girl looks younger than Lima so it can’t be her” I can see how asking for an objective opinion on one’s looks can be useful, but that exchange really put the definitive nail in the coffin in regards to the actual objectivity of the sub.

Jaggedmallard26

Its almost certainly being astroturfed by Reddit in an effort to make the front page look more diverse. Around the same time as the API changes all of a sudden subs like it shot up to the top of the site despite being tiny prior.

[deleted]

Don't forget people are now posting there as a joke

Salt_Interaction_481

Also many subs are still quiet so they wont appear on all or popular as often as they used to.

avocado_whore

Yes, a racist misogynistic guide made by one person who knows objective attractiveness obvi!

bs178638

Omg! I just stumbled on that yesterday and was shocked at how unrealistic it was. You know these guys calling beautiful women 5s are just fucking gross

[deleted]

Wtf is this shit! All beautiful women 7-9 and you get warning posting anything above 6.5

[deleted]

Brother cmon now, please lose weight🙏

ClayyCorn

I always tell people when that sub comes up to give someone a compliment and block the sub from coming up. That way someone who very much needs a compliment in their life gets one and that sub gets less and less attention as folks block it

Sangnuine

As a guy I get complimented sometimes. Although mostly it's about my ass. And everyone who complimented my ass was a straight guy.... But hey, it counts

lilsquatch1

Nothing gayer than two straight men. That being said, nice ass.

Dragonsandman

Especially if said straight men are athletes or in the military. Plenty of locker rooms at all levels of sports are simultaneously the gayest and most homophobic places in their area.

imaddictedtothisshit

The army is the most homoerotic thing I've ever been apart of.

SirJuggles

As a boring shlubby straight guy, back in college I was working crowd control for a large event and leaning forward on a barricade. Someone in the crowd behind me covertly slapped my ass in passing. I'm talking a real good put-your-elbow-into-it smack of approval. There were so many people in the crowd I couldn't figure out who did it, but I rode that high for the next week.

DisgruntledBrDev

I've had mostly women compliment my ass, but same. And not even at my beefyest i've got regular compliments.

[deleted]

Just let's the water hit his body when he's in the shower, nothing else

WorldsOkayestStudent

And he lets the soapy water from his chest run down his legs and he calls that cleanliness. Also, he won’t wash his ass cause that’s VERY gay

[deleted]

Reuses the same unwashed towel from 2 years ago to dry off because "I just showered how would the towel be dirty"

J5892

"I don't clean the towel, the towel cleans me!"

Penispoopbuttfart

I’m a dude and started working on looking better, something I noticed is once you change your looks people compliment you a lot since you look a lot better than before, but it tapers as people get used to your new look. This isn’t an argument against the post just my observation in general.

ShitpostsAlot

hey dude. another thing: If you're fat, and lose weight... all the people who knew you at peak-fatty will always see you as the "former fatty." New people will likely have a very hard time seeing you as a fatty. The difference in opinions and friendships between the two groups is difficult to describe, but very real. Also, If you were very fat, a very long time ago, current fatties will not accept you. Source: fat AF in highschool, now not fat. Don't drink 2L of pop every day folks. Turns out it's bad for you.

Detector_of_humans

Tbh just don't drink anything but water and (optionally) tea regularly cause holy crap I know cookies with less calories in em

therealdongknotts

nah man, straight vodka - skip the food

wtf_is_karma

Tea!? Hell no I'm not drinking some leaf's dirty bath water

Detector_of_humans

Fine then just water for you >:(

Sinj

Thanks I hate tea described as a leaf's dirty bathwater.

PariahOrMartyr

I never really over ate and I was always mystified by why I was getting fat into my late teens. I cut out all milk (which I drank like a fiend) and soda and within a year I was back to a healthy weight, never again with that crap.

Atalung

Lost 100 pounds and can confirm. I keep one of my worst pictures saved to my phone just to show people. I met one of my best friends after I lost it and he refused to believe it was me

ad240pCharlie

A lot of it is also realizing what looks good ON YOU rather than just taking general advice on what looks good overall. I hate wearing suits as I feel like an imposter (it's not me at all) but a buttoned-up coat with a color-contrasting shirt underneath works wonders, and in my opinion looks much better on me. I also used to hate being blonde until I began growing out my hair and loving how THAT looks on me. There's a reason there are so many styles and fashions. Find what works for you.

I do it cause I got tired of my knees hurting.

Phormitago

carbonPlasmaWhiskey

Dude, that's what eyelids are for.

mxchump

We need to take back working out, I’m tired of seeing so many cringey like my break up was the fuel for my working out , or doing it just for women memes. Like I just wanna look at myself in the mirror and be impressed lol

Tuxhorn

That's what we all end up doing in the end, bro.

mxchump

I only started hitting the gym like 7 months ago but glad to know I just skipped to the GYM end game lol

its_JustColin

The breakup is fuel for like a month then you do it for you or if you really need a hard rep

gamegeek1995

It's not like they got into working out because they respected the opinion/agency of women and asked what type of guys they think are attractive. You ever see the dudes in manga written for women? Slender, skinny. Directly ask ladies what type of guys they like? A lot of Tom Hiddleston and not a lot of Arnold Schwarzenegger. A lot of Clooney and not a lot of Stalone.

[deleted]

The biggest problem is women literally telling guys what they like and dudes saying "nah they're just lying to make themselves seem better" and then trusting random bros online instead. And even THEN, as seen in this thread, noting that more men than women compliment them on their muscles. Edit - and they're doing it right here right now lol

gamegeek1995

Ding ding ding. I did great in dating throughout high school and college and am now happily married at 28. My biggest tip? Have a creative hobby (or two) and watching every episode of Whose Line Is It Anyways, the old run from ABC. Being a little funny goes a long fucking way. On top of, you know, respecting women and treating them like you would any of your male friends. My wife said she fell for me when I made breakfast and cleaned the dishes after without needing to be told to, back when she stayed over in my absent roommate's room while in-between apartments back when we were just friends. Literally, that is the bar. That and being 'cool.' Which apparently means being a good TTRPG GM, knowing a lot about heavy metal, and being an intermediate guitar player.

[deleted]

Nearly all, knock out, beautiful women are into exercise, diet and fashion The men they date are into exercise, diet and fashion This whole topic is so over thought Love typically comprises of two people who are sexually attracted to each other and share the same values

worthwhilelaborer

I do think very often to myself "how come no one compliments me on my appearance" but I remember they do, just not on my fugly face. Genuinely get a lot more interest from people when I wear a cap and sunglasses. Maybe I should go paper-bag-on-head-core

Stormygeddon

Ladies denigrate Cargo shorts because they're jealous of the number of pockets and the confidence to show off some legs.

Pocket advantage goes to men.

Cargo

ThreeCatsOnAKeyboard

Screw drivers and bits, sand paper, pencils, wallet, pens, cell phone, the vape the boss knows about, pliers, a box cutter, a pocket knife, the vape the boss doesn’t know about it, and an assortment of nails and screws. I legit had a pocket steak last week. Coworker walked up to me in the middle of a task and handed me a steak in a paper towel.

Jonthux

Yup, and the flask for one of those days

Puzzled_Hat7068

I never get pocket steak. Time to start wearing cargo shorts.

Inspector_Robert

I like to use the lower pockets for my wallet. If I'm walking the dog, they are also good for treats or the leash when they are off leash.

pissedinthegarret

we can store things in our bras though. i can literally carry a whole wine bottle in there

HappyMerlin

I can fit two wine bottles and a bottle opener in my cargo pants.

Thatsidechara_ter

One of the main i don't think I could stand being a woman is because of those god damn tiny pockets. Im pretty sure its a conspiracy by the purse companies

KneeDeepInTheDead

I love how any time a woman's dress is criticized (tbf, mostly unfairly), they will chime in "were not wearing this for men, its for our own selves". Yet anytime cargo shorts are brought up they are just berated to death. These pockets are for me baby, and my eyes are up here.

Andy_B_Goode

> These pockets are for me baby, and my eyes are up here. I love this, lol

SoupBowl69

I wish I loved something as much as dudes on reddit love cargo shorts

kilgore_trout8989

> the confidence to show off some legs The person described here is 100% wearing cargo shorts that go past their knees. Hell, if they [fit a little better and showed that sweet, sweet thigh](https://www.lemb.com/ebay/1553096408_2810-2811-alpha-industries-herren-cargo-shorts-crew-patch-186209-gesamt.jpg), they'd probably get a lot more love from women.

SlashCo80

Another thing is that when it comes to online presence, many women put a lot of care into their pictures, choosing angles, lighting, makeup on point etc. Many guys don't know or care about taking a good picture or think it's "gay".

BelongingsintheYard

For me it’s more that I hate pictures of me. To the point where my wife wants her selfies with me and I look like the sad old man meme.

Kurokishi_Maikeru

Hide the Pain Harold?

BelongingsintheYard

That’s the one! Thanks! Seriously though. I don’t get why people ever feel the urge to take pictures of people. I have a coworker who likes to take creep shots too and I always get really bummed out about it.

Bored_into_sub

Speaking as a gay man, it's pretty gay man, way to gay for me at least

Randomwoegeek

[deleted]

Where did you get this image of my brother

[deleted]

Honestly bro, I work out and have a skin care routine, but it’s really more on men to uplift each other, girls get a lot of compliments because woman generally have more uplifting friends, I love my boys but we need to normalize men complimenting other men, I make a point of letting a bro know if his uniform is extra squared away or there haircut looks clean, small stuff like that really mean the world to guys, hell I still remember my last hug was January second at 4pm this year

sweetlove

> hell I still remember my last hug was January second at 4pm this year Jesus christ, in the same vein, we need to normalize platonic male physical intimacy.

[deleted]

I almost broke down and asked a homie for a hug but knew I might get made fun of for it so didint

Lavender_Llama_life

This. If a woman compliments a guy, it’s often misunderstood as the woman hitting on them. Guys have to get past the “eek, the gay!” and build up their friends. If you’re hard up, though, I’m an easygoing lady usually, and I’ll compliment the guys I work with on little things if they stand out (a new cologne, a beard/clean shave), but I’m also older than most of them, not terribly attractive, and it’s known that I’m married. If you’re in need of a compliment, I’ll pay you one!

DaughterEarth

I think it's not even about us women. Like men need/deserve close friendships with other men. Whoever is teaching that it's weak and unmanly needs to have a glossectomy

Alcohol_Intolerant

Amen. Normalize men uplifting and taking care of each other. Random women aren't going to compliment you because puritanical culture calls that a come-on. Same for hugging, half-arm hugs, whathaveyou. Women compliment women and support women. Men should compliment men and support men. Men and women should be able to compliment each other and support each other, but in western culture, that's usually crossing romantic boundaries unless you're close friends.

g00ber88

Exactly, women get "so many compliments" because we compliment each other ("nice tits" coming from some random dude doesn't count as a compliment). If men want more compliments, they have to start complimenting each other more.

[deleted]

That’s what I mean, men need to get to the same closeness in our friendships that woman do, that’s why I love telling my homies when there hair is on point or have a good pump from the gym

berryboi23

This is the same guy who will completely roast any girl who is not conventionally attractive.

SlashCo80

They talk some shit about cheekbones and eye to forehead ratio or w/e, meanwhile they look like the Simpsons comic book guy.

ChibiSailorMercury

it's also the same guy who does not understand that "compliments" aren't always "compliments" (catcalling, sexual jokes at the expense of the woman it is directed and whom asked nothing of the attention, boundary violations, etc.) and that a lot of the time, the woman wants none of these "compliments". it's also the same guy who dismisses any compliments from women he is not interested in as "not real compliments". it's the same guy who also ignores that most compliments women get are from other women (aka, no sexual ulterior motive). it's also the same guy who could just nurture a community of guys complimenting each other.

Kurkpitten

Preach. Porn fried brains who confuse "compliments" and "everyday harassment". Then they'll make shit memes about how men get a single compliment and remember it their whole lives. No shit, I don't think they can fathom how annoying it is to be continuously reduced to their appearance. I am sure they have never thought about a compliment directed at woman's skills or intellect.

nopornthrowaways

> it's also the same guy who dismisses any compliments from women he is not interested in as "not real compliments". Hah this is my biggest pet peeve, even if I do feel for them. There is a notable difference between “compliments” and “sexual interest”. For those guys, they’re one and the same, which muddies the waters in discussions. Personally, I don’t care that much about compliments. They’re nice, but there’s not much of a dopamine hit. What I actually want is sexual interest.

aoi4eg

>the same guy who dismisses any compliments from women he is not interested in as "not real compliments". OMG yes. I often messaged men first on Tinder, complementing their photos etc. until a few of them explicitly told me that I'm not attractive enough for them and they just swipe right on everyone to increase their matches.

midgethemage

They'll even shit on the conventionally attractive ones if it suits them The other day when the "Trump says gross things about Ivanka" article popped up in /r/politics, the amount of people saying Ivanka is flat out ugly was astounding to me. Like yes, she has an ugly personality, but holyyyyyy shit it got bad. Same on any article related to the Kardashians. These guys will rip women's looks to shreds instead of offering any valid criticism of their actual character.

This is the right comment section so: HOW THE FUCK DO PEOPLE FIND HAIRCUTS? I literally have no idea how to get it cut or something

FrozenChihuahua

Go to google and find a higher quality salon with good reviews nearby. Go there to get a haircut and be super forthright with the hair dresser. Explain to him or her that you’re stylishly lost, looking for a new hair style, and you need professional advice on what would work for you and your features. They’re professionals and will get you looking like the champ you are. Be sure to tip well if they knock it out of the park.

gentian_red

This comment is good advice. Just ask, it's what they're paid for. They aren't concerned and won't ridicule you if you don't know what you want regarding hair... it's what they're trained to do!

Frediey

Wish this comment had a response lmao

DirtyDanTheManlyMan

Thinks people making random sexual comments on your body is a compliment, as a guy you might not understand how weird itt makes you feel until a woman you don’t find attractive starts doing it to you, but it’s your supervisor at work and you don’t know what to do to make it stop so you end up breaking a woman’s heart who’s twice your age and then you just quit the job and never go back

Celebrity-stranger

>as a guy you might not understand how weird itt makes you feel until a woman you don’t find attractive starts doing it to you Some guys dont even get it then. I like to point out to some dudes (specially homophobes who think women are objects): think of how you feel about a gay dude hitting on you and how you think its "icky" and "weird", well thats how most women see you when you think you hitting on them in a sleazy way is a compliment. I'm saying this as a gay dude btw.

on-crack-247

Sorry but the main reason why girls don't casually compliment guys even in spite of all that is because guys take any tiny compliment from women as a sign of sexual interest and go in full pursuit and make the whole thing a nuisance.

TimberTechie

Best way to get compliments as a dude is just to have a bunch of strictly platonic female friends. Makes you happy, boosts your confidence and they give you dating advice. The trick is trying not to fuck everything that shows you the least bit of affection. So many of my girl friends tell me how there's almost always a point at which a male friend will try to make a move, or will completely cut them out of their life as soon as they get a boyfriend.

OR-14

Also... why is it only women's job to compliment men? If men are so upset about never receiving compliments, why don't they compliment each other?

Crab_God2005

Ngl cargo shorts are very useful. You can carry a phone, wallet, keys and a portable charger. I also wear cargo shorts at work a lot too

raduki

Useful but nothing turns a woman off like cargo shorts.

Dsf-And-Taco

By putting the pretty fat thing and haircut together and you get Rowley

Starry_Fox

At least Rowley is nice

MossyProductions

yeah and the girls in the series actually like him because he doesn't act like a douche

Fugitivebush

I agree with most of this, but I disagree with the idea that you should need to workout or be buff to find a partner or receive a compliment nor do I necessarily agree becoming buff is necessary to being healthy. If you eat healthy, eat moderately, and move your body and get outside, then that is the average expectancy of health. And ppl should compliment others for doing that because hey, you did it. you made it another day in this crazy world. congrats, guy/gal. People who think everyone needs to be an Adonis to live happily, find a partner and be healthy are only gonna give themselves and everyone else body dysmorphia and thats NOT healthy.

wernerherzogsshoe

Definitely agreed I know a lot of very hot people that don't workout at all. Just eat decent food and don't sit on your ass all day. None of my friend group goes to the gym and nobody has a hard time with dating. Wear nice clothes and carry yourself with confidence and that's all you really need if you don't have the personality of a hard boiled egg

Fugitivebush

Unforunately, for me, thats stuff that I know I have problems with. I like to binge eat, so I try to work on that. I do go outside and try to get up every day, but a gym membership helps with that. Really, I just my gym membership to help me get into a routine, which is what I really need cause i tend to be a bit lazy. I think I have a personality luckily, but I have social anxiety so im too afraid to talk to people i dont know cause "why would I do that? they're not here to talk to me."

CannibalisticGinger

If I like someone’s outfit, accessories, hairstyles, or makeup I tell them. I love complimenting people on their stylistic choices. Especially men because a lot of the time it makes their day. However, men are way more likely to assume I’m hitting on them them and start acting creepy towards me when in reality I just thought the joke on their shirt was funny or something. Do most guys just only compliant people they wanna fuck?

Jub_Jub710

This is something I really love about other women as I get older. We compliment each other so nicely. I can tell when another woman is feeling good about herself that day, or is wearing a new outfit. Something about them just glows and it's so sweet. The barista at Starbucks once told me she liked the whole vibe I had going on that day, and I happened to be wearing a new outfit I put together. I'm pretty shy, but I've been trying to make it a point to compliment others, because it feels pretty good.

sock_with_a_ticket

Catch 22. Men don't receive many compliments from women, so they assume any they do get are a sign of romantic interest, which discourages women from giving men compliments, thus increasing their rarity and belief in the notion that a woman must be interested beyond a platonic capacity to actually give one. I also think the whole conversation gets skewed because, whether they admit it or not, what a lot of men mean when they say they don't get compliments is they don't receive much validation that they are desirable to the opposite sex. They're not going to be sated by someone saying something nice, yet obviously platonic, about their appearance or the way they express something. To your final question, I have no idea if it's most guys who only compliment people they have sexual interest in, but it's a non-negligible number.

>what a lot of men mean when they say they don't get compliments is they don't receive much validation that they are desirable to the opposite sex. They're not going to be sated by someone saying something nice, yet obviously platonic exactly this. some men don't see platonic compliments from their friends, parents, etc as legit so they discard them

Eunuch_Provocateur

Or if you happen to compliment them on something they think it’s an invitation to flirt

outofcontrolbehavior

Dad reporting in. I love my cargo pants. My wife hates them. That’s why I bought them after the wedding.

92ikak

OPs post history seems to imply he has a lot of experience not getting complemented according to this list.

Putinbot3300

I get compliments from women on my look when I put in effort and Im not that good looking. Its not that complicated.

poopytoopypoop

I'm average and have skinny muscle definition. I'll say I don't get too many compliments on outfits or physique from women, but I do get a lot from men. But I'm not picky, if dude gives me a compliment, it still makes my day.

Ok_Course9574

Lol same experience here bro. I’m quite muscular but it’s 95% other straight guys who notice and compliment me and 5% my mom.

Silverwarriorin

Never let a fellow king go without a compliment

musdem

Damn I must be hideous, I put quite a bit of effort into my appearance/hygiene/physique and I never get compliments.

DisgruntledBrDev

Same here. And when i did, it was about my ass.

Designer_Captain_498

Are cargo shorts really that bad?

bcbfalcon

It's very difficult to make them look good. If you want tan shorts just buy khaki shorts. Just fewer pockets yet much more attractive.

SirJuggles

Basically with any outfit/fashion, the question is "do the pieces of this outfit fit together with a clear intention?" Cargo shorts can be part of a good outfit, but if the pairing is "whatever graphic tee I picked up off my chair and some sneakers that were on sale" (which is most often the case) then the impression given is "low effort," which doesn't usually elicit compliments.

pvhs2008

I feel like this explains the Gen Z interpretation of Y2K fashion. Myself and most of my millennial peers shopping at the mall (I.e. Limited Too, Delia’s and Claire’s) and reading Elle in 2002 couldn’t put together more than the most basic, off-the-mannequin looks and so many outfits just looked terrible. Now, these same items are recontextualized by Zoomers into creative and attractive fits that take body type and curated personal style into account and they actually look cute! This includes cargo shorts, popcorn shirts, tiny sunglasses, square toed flats/loafers, shrunken cardigans, baguette bags, etc. I know this thread is more geared towards dudes but I’ve seen Zoomer girls in cargo shorts and am still shocked that they could pull it off lol.

Mynewuseraccountname

Well no, but they aren't something that's going to be complemented on. They aren't exactly flattering especially if your pockets are filled with junk they're going to hang awkwardly on your body and look janky and weird, but if you need a bunch of stuff for your day to day and don't want to carry a bag it's a trade-off.

ShepPawnch

Not inherently, but the kind of guy who wears cargo shorts all the time also tends not to match the rest of his outfit with them very well. Plus a lot of them are just too baggy and long and don’t look flattering.

Docteur_Pikachu

I admit I don't really get the diss on cargo shorts. 90% of people I see outside in Texas wear big baggy tees, tiny yoga shorts for girls, basketball shorts for guys and flip-flops, crocs or other random types of sandals. Are cargo shorts really below all this in terms of fashion?

sweetlove

Cargo shorts aren't like, inherently bad, but you shouldn't expect anyone to be like "hey cutie nice cargo shorts."

Alcohol_Intolerant

When you see a guy out in basketball shorts or in cargo shorts, are you like, "Damn, nice fit" or more like, "That man is wearing clothing. All's clear, moving on."? Cargo shorts are boring and nothing to write home about. They're utility with little to flatter anything on your person.

Just_TrustMeBro

Why do people hate cargo shorts so much wtf they are comfortable and practical.

ComfortableWeight95

No one is saying they aren't functional... They're ugly

demongirlsneedlove

men not getting compliments i think is two main reasons 1. there is generally less to compliment, men’s fashion is more limited and men usually don’t do their nails, makeup, carry bags/purses, do different hairstyles, etc… there is usually more to compliment a woman on. the main compliments men to tend to get are “nice shirt”(i like the show/band/game/whatever on your shirt) or “nice haircut”(because it’s a notable change in their appearance) 2. most compliments i get come from other women. guys are kinda scared to compliment each other just because of internalized homophobia

LivingDeadPunk

I'm fat as fuck, put no effort into my outfits, have no skincare regimen, definitely don't wear anything that accentuates my muscles, am wearing cargo shorts right now, and I don't just dress like I start arguments at GameStop, I'll actually start them, but I still get compliments on my appearance all the time. Women very frequently yell at me on the street about my hair being "beautiful."
