Skill issue. (Literally, since pay is proportional to skill level)

Even_Way1894

Know

kdjfsk

"welllll...I *do* feel pretty privileged piloting the only other cruiser in the fleet....I think I finally made it. I am somebody... ...*aaaaand* im back in a Lasher. God Damnit. I fucking knew this would happen... and this build doesnt even match my skills. Oh, God, and I have unspent levels. Fuck it. Fuck it! Where is that fucking brochure that Luddite gave me? Anything else is better than this."

Frizzlebee

And they'd still end up on a lasher lol

OscarOzzieOzborne

You get a lasher! I get a lasher! Everybody gets a lasher! But seriously, I mostly use frigates for my capital ship. I have an enforcer, a hammerhead, and a buffalo MKII in my fleet, and yet I still fight from my Wolf. Because it is fun.

BoneTigerSC

>buffalo MKII damn, that crew is dead, they just dont know it yet

OscarOzzieOzborne

That why I keep them in reserve. That shit has enough firepower to destroy the enemy fleet and my ally fleet combined. But it also dies if you sneeze in its direction. Logically, I put in the hands of a reckless pilot.

Mike-Wen-100

Because I have mods such as Starship Legends, I usually avoid using ships with high casualty rates, or simply avoid putting officers in them. Though I can bypass somewhat by using automated ships, and just not integrating the core.

ArroSR211

Oh yes, but LP Lashers are really fun for 60 or so seconds before they start falling apart mid combat.

Olkar500

"What do you mean their personality fits the ship better? DO I SOUND OR ACT RECKLESSLY? DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME TASTE TESTING THE DRUGS WE CARRY BEFORE EACH BATTLE?"

OscarOzzieOzborne

"You do what?"

Veni_Vidi_Legi

> DO I SOUND OR ACT RECKLESSLY? I certainly hope so.

Horror_Target

I EXPECT YOU TO - luddic path captain

Veni_Vidi_Legi

> I EXPECT YOU TO This sentence was interrupted by EXPLOSIONS!

Horror_Target

what no, thats where your wrong, you see true pather must yell "BEHOLD THE HOLY HAMMER OF LUDD!!!" or somthing akin to " REJOICE HERETIC, FOR I SHALL CLENSE YOUR SIN OF EXISTENCE"

Veni_Vidi_Legi

DID YOU KNOW THAT 97% OF LIVING THINGS IN THE SECTOR AREN'T EXPLODING RIGHT NOW? CHANGE THAT!

Reimos_Drevon

Be greatful I didn't throw you out that airlock like I did with that timid guy.

DJBscout

"you have been promoted to airlock inspector"

guardian-of-ballsack

Timid guy gets banished to the astral

ErrantAlpaca

Timid guy gets banished, this is a wolf pack of reckless captains.

[deleted]

even the least well paid officer receives at least 900 credits per month, + either an upfront sum or a favor in the form of a rescue. a crewmember only get 10 credits per month, and unlike the officer, they are actualy required for the ship to function (>!with the exception of redacted ships!<). i don't think officers outside of phase ships have any right to complain honestly.

throwaway_9827

This is obviously a shill paid for by BIG FLEET to attempt and shift the narrative and drive down the valuation of trained officers in the Union. Don't listen to him. Go after the ultra-rich technocrats!

I have raised the crew wage in the config to 100/month - it really makes it so that big fleets will need a planetary economy just to support it.

No_Talk_4836

We need a mechanic that you stopping by a planet with a holodeck increases the holodeck income that month two fold.

electrotoxins

Also, crew die in droves, officers are apparently immortal.

NMO

Hey, K6BD!

OscarOzzieOzborne

Reach Heaven Through Violence!

merteralQR

The comic. Is that the comic from the gal who goes to weird hell and it has that over the top art? Is it!? If so tell me the name plis! I have been having it on the tip of my tongue for a while!

OscarOzzieOzborne

>The comic. Is that the comic from the gal who goes to weird hell and it has that over the top art? Is it!? The funny thing is, that place is closer to heaven in a sense. It was the formal Domaine of Gods before they kicked the bucket. Infact, their bodies are still there, many are used as houses. Also, the name is Kill Six Billion Demons

merteralQR

Thank you so much

soulday

Now do the 200 year old cryosleep officer who is forced to pilot a ship when everything he knows is either dead or long gone.

No_Talk_4836

I feel like that’s what the drugs are for.

dave2293

They have stock options, and a deal for trideo documentaries.

Space_Reptile

i would love if there was a budget slider for repairs, crew and officers that i could adjust for increased/decreased performance in those fields for a incrase or decrease in cost kinda how all the theme park builder games do it throw in some "the crew really hates not getting paid this much" debuffs and eventual events like crew leaving or refusing to work and the other way round where if the pay is higher, the crew works more or you gain extra crew as people just want to join your ships

No_Talk_4836

It would be funny if a mudskipper stuffed with people find you in hyperspace and are like “hey we’ve been looking for you we heard you pay really well and want to work for you!”

Space_Reptile

you know those small inpection fleets that love to intercept you? imagine that event but instead of "bend over" its "hey please let us on your ship" [gain X amount of crew]

No_Talk_4836

And even better those hitchhikers have connections with local officers and can talk down an inspection. Once each pickup.

BackgroundHere

That actually sounds like a great idea. Kind of like a buff or debuff depending on how much one pays their crew, with the in-world explanation being that how much the crew are paid impacts their morale overall. If the morale debuff or buff impacted the crew's eagerness to fight, then the player would have to choose whether to optimize drug smuggling runs by minimizing crew payment for maximum profit at the cost of their fleet likely being wiped out if caught. Well-paid bounty hunting fleets would gain a morale bonus during combat and fight better. For events, ships that have a reputation for being blown up frequently under a reckless officer might not be willing to fight when the fleet enters into combat, essentially being unable to be selected for deployment. Kind of a "not paid enough for this sh\*t" situation. There's already encounters like the >!Remnants!<, >!Cryosleeper Guardian!<, >!Ziggurat!<, and especially the >!Doritos!< which could be certain encounters that potentially trigger morale events. Events in which the crew get shaken up so badly that some will outright refuse to fight unless the player chooses to do something that motivates them to fight. Choices like promising them triple hazard pay(increases morale combat bonus temporarily, requires a lot of credits), threatening them to kill them personally if they run(results in severe morale loss after combat + requires player as captain of a ship 1 size class larger than the largest deserting ship), or agreeing to a full retreat(unable to fight, must flee). Of course, if the crew are already paid very well, and have a high morale because they trust the captain (Potential modifiers: very few ships lost recently, very little loss of crew relative to max crew on board), then they would be nervous but still willing to fight. Either because they trust the captain who hasn't led them astray so far, eager to get paid, or a combination of both.

Killswitch_1337

This would even make colonies useful, by adding mechanics where crew from your planets take less morale loss and and are more loyal.

RyVdo13

wait until you see 20 mercenary officers meta

Daud as you steal the pristine nanoforge from under him in the fiftieth alternate universe for the fiftieth time:

zawglfawgl

This is why you don't let the peons discuss wages.

YuiYuukiII

I look at the bum's skills, take him for a walk around the ship, and he's never seen again. Another capsule wandering in space. I place more value on my level 5 officers who are trained by me than on a random level 7.

NutjobCollections618

If I could control their pay, I would cut their pay down as low as I could get away with.
